crack succession theory time: i think connor's presidential bid is going to matter more than we all ever thought. succession is too smart of a show to have this long-running plotline stay a gag throughout, and while it certainly has a purpose as pure comic relief, as this season is revealing more tragic and emotive sides of connor, i think this plotline might have more weight.

in the midseason trailer, it seems like the siblings/waystar are going to try and coax connor into dropping out, something that would only really happen if him being in the race jeopardizes their interests (electing mencken). i think that somehow, someway, connor's bid will strain the chances of mencken's election. connor's voting pool likely primarily draws from people who would otherwise vote for mencken (i don't think mencken is drawing in voters who skew democrat), and thus even with connor's one percent (maybe rising percent), mencken's election is not guranteed. if connor runs, mencken could lose, as potential voters would ironically vote for a literal roy, while simultaneously dooming the family/company's actual interests in getting mencken elected. connor fucks over the family interests inadvertently by trying to make his father proud by running a semi-effective campaign !!

tldr: connor roy accidentally saves democracy by drawing voters from mencken, getting a dem elected in the end of it all

so i started watching howards end last night (the show not the movie) and it’s so good. i really do love me a good period drama. i literally watched 3 episodes in one go so i’ve only got one left which i’m hoping to watch later today sometime.
