There is no reasoning outside of hyperfixations for this drawing
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fun Fact: I tried to finish this at my local Dunkin until a homeless guy started yelling because he needed money. The workers did nothing about it. I finished it at home.
.
Btdubs, since my last drawing featured just me, Elaine and Althea, this is the first time I have fully draw the entire Gurlfriendz group, (From my knowledge of who's in it) and subsequently, the first time I ever drew Jam. Yet this is what I do to her.
Tumblr media
I swear, my artstyle typically isn't this sloppy. But wanting to draw in between school AND post once in a blue moon, sacrifices have to made sometimes.

(Art Description: A traditional pencil drawing of the Gurlfriendz group drawn to imitate the style of the Gluttonous Goats from Psychonauts 2.
@drjaslaine /Elaine has an oval-shaped head and a plush-like body. Her arms hang at her sides, and she has hoofs instead of hands and feet, as do the rest of the group. She has thin ears that perk up on her head, and straight, sharp-ending horns in-between them. Her long hair flows down her back. She has patch of lighter fur on her stomach and going down her face, with the latter leading to her muzzle. She nonchalantly looks off to the side. Her goat pun-related name written under her is Elamb. (Elaine+Lamb)
boo-bookeys/Brooke has a square-shaped head and a plush body. She rests on hoof on her side, as her right arm is lifted beside her. She has one leg tucked behind the other, which sticks out. She has round, half-lidded eyes that stare at the viewer. The light fur on her head leads to a snout. Her ears half-flop and half-stick up on the sides of her head. Her horns near the center of her head slightly curve inwards. Her pun-related name is Brooke De Los Cabros. (Brooke Of The Goats)
@altheadajoysoul /Althea has a square-shaped head, and plush body. She is standing on a box to compensate for way she was drawn. They squat down with their legs spread out and hold their arms upwards excitedly, as they appear to grin and shout ecstatically, while their eyes look in different directions. They wear rounded glasses, and there is meant to be circles of lighter fur around their eyes. Her short black hair slightly sticks outwards and covers part of her face. Her ears perk out from the top of her head, and her horns are small and stick up straight. She has a patch of lighter fur on her stomach. Their pun-related name is Althea Grass. (A Field Of Grass)
@crownin-thestars /Jam has a rounder head and plush body. They hold their arms up in a content manner, as their right leg slightly bends inwards. They have a noticeable lighter fur patch on their stomach, and down their face to their nose and mouth. They grin among their friends. Their hair is of medium length and goes down their back and bangs cover part of their face. Their ears are floppy and rest on the sides of their head. Their horns are sharply drawn and curve inwards. Their pun-related name is Ram.)
.
(Image Descriptions: Under the art are screenshots from the movie Big Daddy.)
Over a screenshot where Julian chants "Kangaroo Song" over and over again, the words "My Brain" and "Draw the Gurlfriendz! Draw the goats! Draw Gurlfriendz as goats!!!" are plastered over him.
Over the screenshot of Sonny screaming "ALRIIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!", the words "Me trying to get my work down" and "ALRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!" are plastered over him.
Beneath those screenshots, is the "Beyoncé, I'm so sorry, sweetie" meme, revamped to say "Jam, sweetie. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry that the one time I draw you, you come out in such a way, oh my god.")
.
(Closeups of the Gurlfriendz' designs are under the Beyoncé meme.)

Finished rewatching season 4. Figured I'd make this little retrospective because this season is kind of special to me.
It has a special vibe. Not the one I mentioned when I was talking about s1-3. It's something entirely else. And now I can properly articulate what exactly makes season 4 stand out so much even though it's arguably not the best season of Winx.
For one, season 4 brings some of the very noticeable changes to the animation and the artstyle. Somehow it's gotten even brighter and more colorful compared to the previous seasons. And the animation also begins to shift towards the puppet animation (none of these changes so far as my favorite, I really liked the way the first seasons kept the balance between colorful character design and sometimes bleak and dark environment). Aside from that the entire sound design is revamped for this season. Which I assume is due to licensing issues as even the Enchantix song had to be taken from the movie. But I honestly have no idea. In addition to that we also get fuck ton of pop rock songs which are still absolute bangers even now. "Superheroes" (ending credits song) is my all time favorite. I fell in love with it the moment I heard it.
The narrative also takes an interesting turn. Winx, no longer just regular students, have to face the hardships of adulthood. New responsibilities, new place, new people, new powers and new enemies. This is the first and only season of Winx Club that breaks the status quo by forcing them out of Alfea to Earth where the girls have to learn to navigate a completely new environment (except Bloom of course). It's a bumpy ride for everyone including the Specialists. And they fail a lot at first. Their first failure against the Wizards brings down their confidence but it's their belief in themselves what eventually helps them overcome their problems.
Their goals on Earth are to make people believe in magic again and find the last Earth fairy. That fairy is of course a girl named Roxy who quickly became my favorite character. People love to say she's just like Bloom and that's why she's not interesting but while the show does draw a lot of parallels between Bloom and Roxy I think that statement is misunderstanding Roxy's character. Roxy's conflict of being the last fairy of Earth and coming to terms with it is heavily connected to the central theme of the season which is about believing, to no one's surprise. Roxy has to learn to believe in herself if she is to save the Earth fairies from imprisonment. In turn for all the support she received from the Winx she helps them with their task of tapping into the hearts of the people. She explains that you can't force people to believe in something. The nuance of the situation the Winx found themselves in is also what sets this season apart from other seasons and what makes it special.
The Winx spent a great amount of time trying to get people to believe in fairies. Even with Believix' new powers, it proves to be a strenuous task. People of Earth are quite egocentric and at times they can be cruel. But most of them just want to live their lives. And with how busy life can get there really is little to no time or energy to appreciate life and the good things that it brings. Learning to believe in magic is very low on the list of everyone's priorities. And that's why the Winx have only been effective when in time of peril. The burning building, the robbery, the disaster at the train station. You really begin to believe in miracles after surviving a dangerous event. And for some it's what drives them to not take anything for granted. Each of the Winx have their own form of Believix power that help them inspire others. Aisha can give people courage to overcome their fears, Tecna can help people see the reason and reconsider their actions, Musa can help others to listen to their deepest feelings, Stella can calm someone down and make them feel safe, Flora can make you see the beauty all around you and to respect it, while Bloom can help you appreciate life.
I know all of this may sound cheesy but it's all very wholesome to me even as an adult. I still remember how I used to believe in magic and fairies because of cartoons. And how much I wanted to become one myself. Now, rewatching the season in my twenties the theme of believing in magic took a whole new meaning for me. It's not about magical powers and cute outfits anymore. Now, it's about learning to believe, learning to trust people again, to appreciate life for all the good and bad things, to be open to new adventures that await, and finally to believe in myself. It's a healing process that may take years but one day I'll get there. I do want to believe again and bring the magic back in my life.
Thank you, Winx Club, for being an important part of my life.

I’m sure you’ve talked about it already, but what are your thoughts on the artstyle revamp for SW5?
Now, a disclaimer: the last SW game I played was 3, so I’m a bit out of touch, but I have to say I’m not the biggest fan of how SW5 is looking to be a lot more, to put it bluntly, anime.
While the game itself was pretty much dogshit, something I adored about Dynasty Warriors 9 was how it really brought back a lot of the character designs to a more actually Chinese-inspired, almost Beijing Opera style rather than just the generic, over-the-top pure fantasy that most of the DW8 designs were. From what i’ve seen, SW4 was quite a bit more fantastical and anime than SW3 was, but I have to admit, I was really hoping that they’d pull it back a bit. I might be a bit biased, though, as I’ve just come off of playing 100 hours of Nioh 2, and the designs for all our favorite Sengoku warlords in that game are, in my opinion, absolutely perfect.
I actually haven’t talked much about it! funnily enough I just went on the DW reddit and saw a lot of people complaining about the new artstyle ahaha. personally: I love it! I love cel-shaded stuff with outlines, and as far as character designs go, I can understand why people are upset that everyone is Younger and Prettier now, but... I mean, pretty people sell. and I like pretty people. I am not complaining :’)
Nioh is a lot more down to earth when it comes to character designs compared to DW and SW, I’d say. SW has always been an unusual mix of “kinda believable design for the historical persona” (eg old Hideyoshi, Ieyasu, Shingen, Katsuie, Munenori, etc; largely but not entirely a remnant of the old SW1 designs) and “over the top, not remotely historically inaccurate” (Shikoku trio very much stands out here!)... and, well, everything in-between, really! regardless, by SW4, I feel like they were aiming to make every newly introduced character either conventionally pretty or appealing to fans with particular tastes hahah.
but SW5 is leaning more into the anime influence, yes. I have no issue with this as it is still a very nice-looking artstyle, imo, and I’ve seen people compare it to FE Warriors -- which also has an artstyle I think looks great! (makes me wonder if people involved with FEW are working on SW5, hmm...)

Okay oc stuff dump-
SO I have two main original universes, one which is more fantasy (this one has Lance, Myca, Arsen, and .... still I am unsure about the name, Isamu) and one which is very modern (Dave and Veles). And both have pantheons of (very gay) deities. (And I have another that I dont really have any more tbh-)
So fantasy one :
The entire general vibe is like... victorian? I guess. Cobbled streets, gas lamps, stuff like that. But throughout the story, the main gang go through a lot of forests and theres a lot of overgrowth and can be v creepy at times (which has plot relevance uwu)
So we have this pantheon of deities who control various things, (example, Myca, who is the deity of fungus and undergrowth), and there are about... 11-18 deities.
There is one main deity (who I think I named Autem? I will go with that for now but i think I'm gonna have to revamp a lot of stuff about this one-) but they decide that the current status quo is too boring and starts experimenting on the various deities, which has very bad effects on the things they control.
The rest of the pantheon just kick that bitch out after they find what he's done, which yeah understandable, and he goes into hiding. He kinda?? Gets fucked over by his own experimentation and becomes Isamu (who has no memories of being Autem and is generally adorable and nice) and Isamu gets trapped in the weird bunker that he woke up in for... 3 years?? (Also Autem may not be entirely gone so whoops-)
So around the same time Isamu is stuck in the bunker, Lance is getting out of college, and is now a traveling detective.... and literally on his second case gets cursed and ... (I kinda feel bad for doing this to my boy--)
This curse turns the body of said person into a tar like substance. Lance has to constantly has to concentrate on keeping up his form, while also being in general pain. Ever heard of cluster headaches? Yeah that but on his entire body (though of course he has days where its better). He also cant eat properly anymore since... liquid. But jts not all bad, he can extend parts of himself and be all sneaky and hes always aware of where parts of him have dripped off.
He continues to be absolutely best boy and I love he so much heres kinda what he looks like (but the drawing is kinda old)
Tumblr media
While travelling he meets Myca (who he first met as a teen) and they start traveling together since Myca wants his help with finding where Autem went. So the story is mainly about this and also doing their best to fix the deities he experimented on so the effect on the world isnt as bad. And also, when he can, Lance does his best to help with most cases he finds
Myca is the deity of fungi and undergrowth and you can tell. Her current body is kinda like a large lion-wolf thingy?? Shes missing her head and there is an eye (and jaws but those are hidden until she needs to eat or attack) in the neck cavity (her insides are mostly empty), and she has fungi growing all over her. She is sp fucking awesome, she takes no shit and she is determined to fix things.
Hang on do I have a drawing of her uhhhhhhh- no I dont have any of her with me, but I will draw her soon-
Next , at a case, they have a run in with Arsen, and they team up for the moment to bust a child trafficking ring, but where Lance is just there to get the kids out and home, Arsen kills almost every child trafficker there, but brings in the head honcho to the police. (While this is happening? Maybe Arsen becomes absolutely smitten with Lance)
And after all this goes down, Arsen decides to join them on their journey.
I do have a drawing of Arsen but?? Its very old and my design for him has changed a fair amount
Arsen may seem very intimidating but he is actually the type to fuss at you if you forget to eat. He is (or... do I say was) actually a dad and behaves exactly like it. He had a little girl but? She dead now and that did not do well for his mental health.
He likes embroidery (he did that design on his shoulder himself) and sewing also and ... maybe I would have a very tender moment between Lance and Arsen?? Where Arsen is fixing his cape or smth??? They hold all my uwu's-
Tumblr media
Anyway uh he
So they're traveling and discover that the ocean? Is all sorts of fucked up now??? Since the ocean deity was one of the ones experimented on. This causes issues-
But next they find Isamu and Arsen has bad feeling about him (Autem is kinda the reason Arsen's kid is dead-) but they quickly become friends and Isamu??? Baby. Literally hes very young (kinda)-
Tumblr media
Pic is old and new version of Isamu has reptilian/scaled parts as well. But as their shirt doth decree- they baby. And they do have only four fingers on their human hand, that's not just my old artstyle-
Oh btw, pronouns n sexualities for everyone :
Lance : he/him (but is fine with someone using she/her or they/them for him), demiromantic asexual
Myca : she/her, they/them (what's gender to a god), lesbian
Arsen : he/him (is trans, ftm), pan
Isamu: any but kinda prefers he/him, since that's what the first person eh ever met used (Arsen), aromantic asexual
Soooo that's as far as I've gotten with them tbh. I might make a nother post about my modern one and maybe the other one (which is also kinda modern??)
I will draw these dummies soon and might make some memes based on them and their stories-

// Hi! Long time no see!
I’ve recently (for a few months) been interested in Splatoon roleplay again, and quite honestly it’s always been on my mind over the years. I’m not sure if the Tumblr community on here is as active as it used to be, but what you should know is that I’ve completely redone (and revamped) R’s entire character. Like, the only thing I think hasn’t changed is her close association to Octolings, but I don’t want to reveal all her information on this single post, so moving on.
Along with R (who will go by an actual name on the new blog and not Riikko or whatever smh) there’s going to be several different characters affiliated with her (some who I am still working on), who are also going to be up for roleplaying/asks. Also, asks. I’m going to be doing those now, as in I’m going to be drawing replies to any I get (I promise you my art and artstyle has improved from my icon). Obviously there’s going to be restrictions and rules, but whatever.
Now, the blog is @canyoncorral. I don’t think that linked to it directly, sorry about that, but you can just type it. It’s still a WIP as of this post, so I ask that you please be patient. I’m literally typing this before doing any work on it, which is probably not the best idea. I also want you to know that I’ll most likely only access it by computer, so I won’t be as active as I could if it were on my phone.
I’d love it if you were to like this post, and maybe reblog it too!
I can’t wait to see you in the Corral :)
