Skyphos number two! Inspired by the very talented @hellenhighwater ‘s Minotaur sculpture, a painting by Flandrin, a sculpture by Paul Cabet, and a very handsome charolais bull from Google images.
Something a little different- I made this little diorama of my parter’s pottery studio for his birthday on Thursday! Go check out one of my favorite vases of his. I had to make a miniature version because it’s so good 😍 (and give him a follow while you’re there!)
I got ambitious and decided that this piece was going to be a Scylla and Charybdis piece!
I couldn’t find any recovered relics that depicted Chatybdis so I kinda had to go off images I found on YouTube. Though I think she looks pretty good!
The based of the vessel is wheel thrown with pulled handles. I covered the piece in handmade terra sigillata I made myself, the details are all painted on with Amaco obsidian and snow glazes. The white/snow glaze is covered with wax resist to make the painting easier on me, that’s why it looks yellow.
I created his planter out of white stoneware and added the eyes to it as a continuation of a mug I made in my previous ceramics class. The only glazed parts are the irises of the eyes even though it's not evident in this photograph
I don’t have fancy names for these. It’s a planter. That’s it. This was my first time doing leaf print, which was fun! These are just from weeds I found in the corridor outside the classroom.
Aight, I'm not really one for advertising, but my BFF just opened an Etsy - Wisterias Hearth - for her hand made /hand thrown pottery, and I can not recommend them more!
The shop is new and she is still working on adding listing and making more all the time, so check back for updates if nothing she currently has is catching you eye, but you like her style.
She does not have a tumblr, but I was so excited about her opening a shop that I got permission from her to post this. ♥
