After seeing the Canova: Sketching in Clay exhibit at my local art museum I really wanted to try out making a clay sketch!
This one is of Penelope, inspired by a style frame I made for a motion graphics project (it was a for a 1 min 30 second music video. My friend and I did the beginning part of Keep your friends close from EPIC). She definitely took longer to make than however long Conova probably took, and she looks a little closer to his “cleaner” sketches because I have trouble keeping myself from obsessively smoothing out my pieces, but I really like how she turned out! I used some of the terra sigilatta I made for my Greek pottery work so I could get that terracotta colour.
I was so nervous that she would break in the kiln, so there are a ton of holes being hidden by the veil b/c I was worried the skirt of the dress would explode or something 😅

I’m taking a motion graphics class and we have to do a 1-2 minute music video as a group project. I partnered up with a friend and she agreed to do a song from EPIC so we’re planning to do the first 1:30 of Keep Your Friends Close.
Before we start we each has to make a style frame to kind of show potential typefaces and colour palettes. This is the illustration part of mine (I’m going to add in the text when I have access to illustrator)! We chose to do the line “And if you win, you will get what your yearning” for our style frames mainly because I already had an idea for the scene and my friend didn’t mind it.
Idk why but in my mind, I really love the idea that when Aeolus present Odysseus with them playing a game, they pull out one of those metal serving dome things when they say “That’s what I’m serving”; like just as a little goof, they’re a silly little guy. So for this bit of the lyric, the idea is that Aeolus has pulled back the silver dome to reveal a little cloud-like version of Penelope and Telemachus to motivate/convince Odysseus to play the “game”. Ultimately, I ended up not including the text (partly because I was busy and forgot...oops).
I’m not gonna lie, as much as I love Telemachus, I struggled with his design so much 😭 I had no ideas for how I wanted to do his hair and clothes that k ended up scrolling through animatics and fanart for like an hour trying to get inspired 🤧

Here’s a little Pyxis update!
I realised very quickly that the symbols from my Pandora’s box are too small for the size of the vessel. But, I recently went to see the Canova; sketching in clay exhibit at my local art museum and loved his “Satyr and a Nymph (Cupid and Psyche?)” clay sketch so I decided to use that as a design instead!
I played more into the Cupid/Psyche idea, so I spent a little time looking up images of both to use as inspiration. There are little changes like the positioning of the heads, as well as Cupids one arm, but other than that I tried to stay as true to the sketch as I could. I also added the cloth that I’ve seen Cupid/Eros be depicted in just as an extra little detail. It’s being fired right now and I’m super excited to see how it turns out!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I attempted to make a Pyxis (vessels used as storage containers for rouge, oils, jewellery, etc.) and I think for a first attempt it’s pretty good! I wasn’t feeling the foot because I have a bad track record with making feet separately, but there are variations of this shape that don’t have a foot on them so that’s what I did with my piece.
The lid is also thicker than I want but the clay I use has a tendency to crack if it’s really thin so I didn’t want to risk it. Also, once again there are variations of this vessel that have thicker lids so I just tried to make it as thin as I could get without it cracking or getting too small in diameter. This was also my first time throwing a lid on the wheel so that may have also made a difference.
The entire piece is wheel thrown; so the body of the piece, the lid, and the little knob on the lid are all wheel thrown! I’m thinking on using the design I used for my wooden Pandora’s box on this piece as well!

After having to remix the pink, breaking the handle off the mug, and then remaking it from scratch…my Alastor mug is finally complete! Fun Fact; a small yeti lid will fit almost perfectly in the top of the mug which was 100% unintentional.
This mug is 100% for personal use! Not that I would sell these out of caution for copyright, the pink engobe I mixed for the body of the cup is a one time colour. I mixed it on vibes and didn’t measure what colours I mixed to get this shade so I don’t think I could remix it perfectly once I’m out of it 😅

A little belated (vaguely) Valentine’s Day drawing of my Hermes demigod son oc Alcaeus!
Idk if anyone remembers the drawing I did of my Blood of Zeus oc Ambrosia and Hermes, but Alcaeus is Hermes’ son and Ambrosia’s stepson!
B/c Al and Ambrosia tend to span across other Greek mythology based media (such as Percy Jackson for example), for this piece I put Alcaeus in a more modern outfit. I was also kind of inspired by Hermes from EPIC; The Musical (mainly with the colour of the sunglasses and the background colour) by/c I love his vibe 🫣 I can make a post about Alcaeus if anyone is interested 🤔
And of course, here’s the base/reference I used, all credit goes to Master_0607! I normally link the original creators account but I couldn’t find theirs (I found the image on Pinterest and tried to image search it on Google) unfortunately 🥲

So I got bored last night and since I’ve been rewatching Nurarihyon no Mago i thought it would be fun to make a pair of yokai oc’s 🫣
they’re being nosey b/c Rikuo’s friends came over and they aren’t used to humans hanging around other than Wakana and the short time they knew Yohime.
Other than Nurarihyon, I’ve recently binged the Netflix series Onmyoji and I just adore Mitsumushi and Mitsuya 🤧 these two are inspired by the Onmyoji characters with varying differences other than the wisteria theme and the names.
My OC’s are flower yokai who help out around the Nura Clan estate. Mitsumushi is the one with the more cool-toned palette and the wisteria hair stick. She’s more of the leader between the two, however, she's also the more quiet of the two. She’s 100% silently judging you at all times. However, Mitsumushi does have a kinder side. She seems to favour being around Rikuo, Kubinashi, and Kappa due to their calmer demeanours and is often very kind to them. I imagine Mitsumushi would also grow to tolerate Mezumaru after a while, though dislikes Gozumaru due to his harsher way of speaking.
Mitsuya is the warmer-toned one and is the more chill and laidback one comparatively. Mitsuya is more likely to come up to you and insist that you play matching games with them, they really like shell matching and memory games. Mitsuya is also the more outspoken of the pair. Neither of them really speaks much, but Mitsuya is more likely to actually say something. They’re a very observant yokai and can often tell when someone needs or wants something before they realise it. Feeling hungry? Need a drink? Mitsuya is right there with food and sake for your enjoyment. Because Mitsuya is more laidback, they’re more welcoming to newcomers than Mitsumushi. Mitsuya gets along well with Mezumaru and the other playful yokai because they’re more likely to agree to play games with them. Mitsuya was also more tolerant of Gozumaru compared to their sister, but that isn’t to say that Mitsuya trusts Gozu.
I also imagine Mitsuya is more likely to leave the main house to accompany Rikuo or help out with shopping or something similar; Mitsumushi would rather stay at the main house. In theory, their outfits also mirror this; Mitsuya wears fewer layers and clothes that are easy to move in while Mitsumushi tends to wear nicer clothes with more layers.
I can’t think of anything else to add for the time being, but if anyone has any questions about my OC’s please feel free to ask! I’ll be happy to answer them if I can.
I thought I’d also include the stock image I used as my reference and my sketch b/c I liked it 💀

I went to At Home today (it’s like a home department store, they have decor, furniture, lamps, etc) and found this cute white “origami” fox decor piece. I completely forgot to take a picture of it before I painted it, but I thought it would be cute to paint it similar to Belladonna’s design (she’s my Hazbin oc) 💕
I think she came out really cute! I also added a pad of adhesive cork to the bottom to protect wherever I display it (and b/c the bottom was kinda messy 🫣)

Say hello to Belladonna, aka the Trickster Demon!
Credit to @cheseely for this lovely fanart they made that I referenced for the pose! I’m not familiar with the character, but I was really vibing with their art style 😌💕

So just a couple little things about Bella I'm going to add before I get into her background and such:
Bella is cisgender and uses she/her pronouns
She is also Demiromantic Asexual and is in a QueerPlatonic relationship with Alastor.
Bella is an overlord in Hell but doesn't often attend meetings b/c she can't stand Valentino
Bella runs a section of territory called “Sin Row” which is essentially a large entertainment district. The businesses in the strip range from speakeasies to host/hostess clubs to bars and more. It’s also comprised of both modern and “old-timey” spots likely to attract more customers.
She favours hard liquors like whisky and bourbon, though seems to only like bottles that have reached their peak age (12 years for Whiskey, 15 years for Bourbon). She also appears to enjoy red wine.
When alive, Bella's family were known bootleggers, as they lived during the prohibition, though Bella seems to dislike alcohol that has been diluted, even when she was alive.
Bella’s nickname comes from the fact that she was notorious for lacing food and drinks with a potential mixture of deadly nightshade to eliminate enemies. Ironically, Bella would die by being poisoned.
In life, Belladonna’s name was Allegra Falcone and was the only child of a New York Mafia leader in the 1920’s however, she died before the peak years of Mafia activity. She came from an Italian-American family who lived in and worked out of Brooklyn, New York.
While Bella’s father technically ran the group, many would say Bella was the one who pulled the strings. Bella is a very intelligent, sly, and calculating person which lead to her father often times listening to Bella’s suggestions above anyones. This is mainly because she’s proven that her plans not only work but are good for the families reputation. It’s rare that any of her plans backfired or cast the family in a bad light. Bella is also definitely a daddy’s girl, having been a lot closer to her father in life than to her mother. Bella, however, doesn’t act spoiled or bratty like your typical daddy’s girl; I imagine her father valued hard work and despite spoiling Bella from time to time, he still tried to instil the value of hard work into his daughter.
As Bella's father got up in age, Bella would often take over as a makeshift leader. because of her closeness with her father, none of the other mobsters questioned this. However, some would say that Bella was manipulating her father for a long time so that she would one day be chosen to take over the crime family when her father eventually passed. This would lead to her being called a "fox" due to her sly personality and intelligence. Bella also had an overall mischievous and playful personality which played into her being likened to a fox. This is also why her demon form is based on a fox rather than a spider, like Angel and his family.
In life and in death Bella and Alastor are good friends. Bella would visit New Orleans at least once or twice a year (sometimes more depending on how busy she is) to spend time with Al. I imagine they would go out drinking together when Bella would visit, likely visiting Mimzy’s club more often than not. They also have a lot of similar interests such as enjoying jazz, dancing, hard liquor, cooking, etc.
I also have this stupid little headcanon that Alastor was the Axeman of New Orleans (check out this post for more) before changing his MO and I imagine that’s how they first met in person. Bella would have known of Alastor through his radio show which Bella often listened to, however she only knew of his name.
Ngl, Bella was just in a silly goofy mood when she decided she wanted to go to a town that had an active murderer walking around just to meet her favourite radio host 🤷🏻. Bella absolutely finds the Axeman letter really funny because of how it’s worded and she likes to tease Alastor about it. She doesn’t do it constantly, but if she can make a reference to it somehow she will.
I should also mention that while they were both alive, Belladonna was only a year or two younger than Alastor. However, Belladonna died six years prior Alastor so there is now a larger age gap between them.
Similar to Alastor, Belladonna isn’t a huge fan of modern technology. However, she doesn’t seem to despise it like Alastor does likely because the entertainment district under her control includes very modern establishments. The more modern the club/bar/arcade/etc the more necessary modern technology becomes. Bella will admit that she doesn’t really understand it, and outside of the modern locations, she doesn’t put technology in the places like speakeasies. The closest thing to “modern tech” that she has at these places are security cameras. The club that she personally operates and uses as her base of operations has security cameras alongside a panel of tv’s connected to the cameras so she can monitor things but that’s about it. Bella also owns a smartphone at the suggestion of one of her employees, however she doesn’t really know how to use it. Angel has shown her how to text, take photos, and make phone calls with it, but Bella is uninterested in social media. She literally just uses her smartphone to call people and take pictures 🤧. She does have people who have been hired specifically to make sure all the modern tech is working right and is up to date.
Aside from valuing hard work, Bella views promises very highly. She despises promises breakers and has been known to never break a promise herself. Because she takes promises very seriously, punishments to breaking one are severe especially if one were to break a promise made directly to Belladonna. This is tied directly with her death, as she was poisoned by someone who promised their loyalty to her only to betray her later.
Belladonna’s general personality is very laidback and fun-loving. I imagine her personality is somewhere between Lucifers and Rosie’s; she’s not quite as theatrical and silly as Lucifer but she does have a mischievous side. Bella enjoys joking around with others and often shows her affection through light hearted teasing. Aside from teasing Alastor, Bella has teased Angel for his thin figure while offering him something to eat (this was a one time joke). She also has a love for slight-of-hand/stage magic, being much more impressed by a simple card trick than by actual feats of magic. Husk has used slight-of-hand magic tricks to cheer up Belladonna in the past because he knows she enjoys it.
Likewise, Bella has a soft spot for children and has a motherly side to her. She currently has a young hellhound in her care and has been known to include places like arcades and themed restaurants into her territory to appeal to a younger audience. She’s also really good when it comes to respecting people’s boundaries (with the occasional exception). The biggest example is with Alastor. Bella can be a physically affectionate person -typically touching someone in some way or just standing near people she cares about- but she also knows that Alastor doesn’t like to be touched unless he’s initiated it. Because of this, she often waits for Al to welcome or initiate any sort of physical affection before touching him. She’s usually really good about this, however should she get excited (such as when she saw Alastor after his 7 year “sabbatical”) she may act more impulsively and hug Alastor without thinking first. I imagine that because they’ve been friends for so long and Alastor knows Belladonna is just happy to see him, he doesn’t mind all that much.
She’s also a very welcoming woman and seems to judge people as individuals rather than who they associate with. She was originally wary of Angel due to his association with Valentino, however it didn’t last long after seeing how much he also hates Val. I’m talking, within the same interaction Bella went from being wary of Angel to becoming very caring of him. Bella has even told Angel that, should he need to get away from Val, he is more than welcome to stay within her territory as Valentino is permanently banned from entering the strip.
She also seems to be rather neutral about Hell’s hierarchy. Aside from her having a young hellhound in her care, I imagine she does business outside of the Pride ring such as getting Beelzejuice (and perhaps other alcoholic beverages) from the Gluttony Ring or ordering toys and such from Lust to be used in her clubs. Because of this I imagine she employs both hellborn demons and sinners to work for her directly or in her businesses that way if she needs something from another ring she has people who can leave Pride. She typically hires hellhounds as bouncers, however, they are also hired to take over other jobs where they’re needed (ie. Bartenders, hosts/hostesses, managers, etc). Similarly, Succubi and even Imps can be found holding any working position in any of the establishments throughout Sin Row according to what spots need to be filled. Overall, as long as they are willing to work and aren’t causing trouble, Belladonna couldn’t care less where a demon sits in the hierarchy; she’ll hire whoever she thinks fits the position. She’s also known to treat all of her employees well, making sure they’re paid well, are respected, and have whatever they need.
The only jobs she’s more strick about filling are the spots directly under her within her mafia family. While her normal employees have the Mafia’s protection, they aren’t necessarily considered part of the family and they don’t have to sell their souls to Bella to work for her. The primary members are those who were part of the Falcone family while they were alive, those who have proven their loyalty to Bella, and the souls she currently owns through deals she’s made. Again, no matter what position they hold in the family, Belladonna treats everyone with respect unless they’ve done something to cross her.
Following that; Belladonna is typically an even tempered woman, however when angered she can become explosive. Bella’s club has a large picture window (you know, those windows that replace an outer wall) next to the front doors that have since been set with reinforced glass because she’s thrown tables through it when angry. During the Overlord meeting about the extermination (one of the few meetings Bella went to), Carmilla was relieved that she didn’t have to worry about Bella causing collateral damage as Valentino was not present.
In addition to her explosive temper, Belladonna can hold a nasty grudge. Valentino is the biggest example as Bella can’t stand to hear his name let alone be in the same room as him. I imagine, before his ban, Val would try to recruit Bella’d workers. But with Val being Val, he would become aggressive and violent when he was rejected by whoever he was trying to recruit which would obviously piss off Belladonna. She eventually got sick of the assaults and after a particularly nasty incident Bella permanently banned Valentino from her territory. Even to this day she can’t stand Valentino. In short; Valentino is to Belladonna as Vox is to Alastor.
Given that Helluva Boss and Hazbin are in the same universe, I wouldn’t be surprised if Belladonna and Crimson have some kind of rivalry or animosity going on between them. I can’t think of a specific reason they would dislike each other aside from them having a traditional mafia family rivalry. Or perhaps Bella dislikes Crimson as a person given he’s pretty chauvinistic and sexists; there’s likely been some incident between them where Crimson was sexists and he majorly offended Belladonna. Maybe he said something along the lines of not believing Bella could be an overlord or be in charge of so many crime organisations (I imagine a lot of her deals were done with other mafia families or smaller gangs) because she’s a woman.
This got longer than I originally planned so here’s a little drawing I did of Alastor and Belladonna’s matching pun mugs 💕 I might post more about Bella on my main blog ( @glitchy-anime-fan ) for the sake of keeping my blogs consistent, but here’s what I have on Bella for now!

“Guardian of the garden” | 4” x 6” | stoneware clay, handmade redart terra sigillata, obsidian and snow amaco brent glazes
“There are two sisters; one gives birth to the other, who in turn gives birth to the first. Who are they?”
Did you know that there was a rarely used, second riddle of the sphinx? I didn’t until I was looking into sphinxes more, but I like to think this sphinx likes to tell this riddle to visitors. Yah know, to throw them off their rhythm.
Anywho; so in August I made a post about a Greek goddess OC I had come up with. The gist is that she’s a minor chthonic goddess of secrecy (among other things) and the producer of ambrosia/nectar. I was trying to think of something to put on this plaque and I thought “why not give the goddess of secrets a sphinx to protect her secret enchanted garden”, and so I did! I have a second plaque that has a sphinx with a similar hair style, I like to think it’s the same sphinx.
This piece uses the same terra sig as my last post which is why the colour is off.
I also have to give artistfuly on insta another shout out for her amazing Greek headdress designs! They totally save me the struggle of finding hairstyles for some of the characters!

“Between Scylla and Charybdis” | 7” x 2.75” x 4.5” | stoneware clay, redart terra sigillata, obsidian and snow Amaco glazes
(More info under cut as well as my reference images)
This Skyphos depicts ancient sea monsters Scylla (a nymph cursed by Circe in some myths or a natural born sea monster in others) and Charybdis (a sea monster or perhaps daimon of the tides) on the same vessel. Between the monsters are a pair of wide eyes often seen on eye vessels, though are symbolic of the terror likely felt by victims of these ladies for this piece.
I’ve never been able to find recovered pieces that had Scylla and Charybdis together, I was finding a lot of just Scylla, so I thought I would make my own! The figures were hand painted by me (with the help of an applicator for the small details) and took an entire day to complete in terms of just painting. I did make my own terra sig which was meant to be more red, but my clear glaze stripped the color for some reason. Honestly though, I like it! It has a kind of weathered look and matches pieces that were likely made with yellow ocher terra sig instead of redart ones.
The piece on the left is one of the lighter terra sig pieces I was referring to. The one on the right was a depiction of Scylla I referenced while making the piece.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was also inspired by the amazing work of Wren (east.of.Orion on instagram) and their Scylla piece! Please go check out Wren’s page, they have a lot of beautiful works!

I got ambitious and decided that this piece was going to be a Scylla and Charybdis piece!
I couldn’t find any recovered relics that depicted Chatybdis so I kinda had to go off images I found on YouTube. Though I think she looks pretty good!
The based of the vessel is wheel thrown with pulled handles. I covered the piece in handmade terra sigillata I made myself, the details are all painted on with Amaco obsidian and snow glazes. The white/snow glaze is covered with wax resist to make the painting easier on me, that’s why it looks yellow.

So white winged bee won the poll! Here’s the plaque waiting to be bisqued, I’ll clean up someone of wonky edges later so I don’t risk messing up the entire thing. He’s a little asymmetrical but also it’s hand painted so it adds ✨character✨

Note: these are in a black figure style, but I’ve been playing with adding in white and/or a darker orange to the pieces. I’ve seen preserved works that have accent colours of white and varying oranges which I think is kinda cool. I’m just not sure which one I like more 😅

Y’all I’m coming at you with a new red figure piece!
I love ancient depictions of sirens. I adore the birds with lady heads so much 🤧
I’m making a set of plaques (mostly smaller one for the sake of ease) and I wanted to do a siren for one of them! I’m thinking that when I get around to her I’ll make the hair dark like the background, I just didn’t think about it at first. I also gave her the same feather dot pattern as the owl in my “Wisdom” design; I feel it helps tie them together a little bit.
(References under the cut)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are my references! I wanted to do something a little different with the hair, I wanted a bit more readability than what was in the original. I follow a lovely artist on instagram, Artistfuly, and she does these cool ancient hairstyles both Grecian and Roman. I found one that matched the silhouette of the original depiction. How did she get her hair like that? Idk. Maybe got help from one of the other sirens, lol.
Please go check out Artistfuly! She’s got a lot of really great mythology works! I definitely recommend checking out her stuff 💕

I’m sorry I need to rant for a minute; why do people think it’s okay to touch artwork in a gallery, especially after being told not to??
I work at a gallery on my college campus and we just had our second reception for our current show (the artists have unfortunately passed and today was easier for the family to stop by but Thursdays are best for students) and the way not only kids but grown adults have no respect for the artist or the work is astonishing. I had these kids (one way maybe 10 the other was early teens) touching and picking up some of the 3D pieces so I kindly told them that we would appreciate it if they didn’t touch the artwork. What did they do? They not only went to touch the work again (their parents stopped them) but they went over and began touching other works! Like one of them was legit knocking on the frames! The dad had to actually pull his wife away from one the works because SHE was going to touch one.
Not to mention another woman started touching one of the pieces and I’m already stressed because not only are the works thousands of dollars but some of them can be easily taken or broken.
Like I don’t understand how hard it is for people to understand that they can’t touch artwork being displayed unless it says otherwise. Maybe I’m biased because I’m an art major and I love going to galleries but you’d think it was common sense??? Apparently not I guess??? And like, I can understand if the kids aren’t aware of gallery etiquette, they’re curious and typically their immediate reaction is to touch stuff but that’s why the parents are there to tell them not to. But I can’t excuse adults touching things they aren’t supposed to; like you should have the common sense and respect to know not to touch artwork that isn’t your own. It’s ridiculous to me that people feel like they can do this and think it’s okay.
Not to mention that half the people who came in didn’t even want to come for the art they came for the reception food! Like the family that came in and was touching shit stopped in like three times just to take our food, but we’re so busy making sure nothings being stolen or anything that we can’t keep an eye on every individual person. And this was the end of the night, so we’re all tired and should have closed like an hour before this happened so we’re also trying to finish clean up so we can leave.
Idk, I just don’t get how people can be so disrespectful and do it right in front of not only the staff but the family of the artist as well. It’s disrespectful to us, disrespectful to the family who was kind enough to let us share the art, and it’s majorly disrespectful to the artist especially because he’s passed away.
