Today Wendy Guevara makes history as the first trans woman to win the mexican version of Big Brother (with celebrities) and I think it is truly historic in a country that is so transphobic and also it's one of the countries with the most trans feminicides in the world :(
She suffered from abuse when she was younger, she was also a sex worker
She really opened up the conversation about trans people here in Mexico fr, i hope mexican society changes for the better and becomes more acceptable about trans people in general 🏳️⚧️💙

Guys since we are plagued by horrible news now more than ever, I wanted to share with you all that for the first time in history a trans woman named Wendy Guevara was declared the winner of Mexico’s most famous reality show.
This is an unprecedented and incredible feat, since Mexico is a predominantly catholic and conservative country that unfortunately hasn’t been very kind to people from the LGBT community, especially the trans community.
But today the future seems a little brighter, today we can celebrate as a community because the people of Mexico gave 18 million votes to a trans woman that won their hearts and who will hopefully inspire more kindness and understanding towards the LGBT community as a whole.
Crowds gathered in a neighbourhood known for being a safe space for queer people as if they were watching a world cup final! It might not seem like much but I’m going to bed with a smile on my face 🏳️⚧️ 🩵

El pasado domingo marcó una ocasion importante en el mundo de la televisión, pero también en la lucha por la igualdad y el reconocimiento de las identidades transgénero. Wendy Guevara, una influencer de las redes sociales, se alzó como la ganadora de "La Casa de los Famosos", consolidándose como la primera mujer transgénero en ganar un reality show en México. Su victoria no solo conquistó los corazones de innumerables espectadores, sino que también desencadenó diálogos cruciales sobre las vivencias de las personas transgénero en el país.
¿Por qué esta victoria es tan importante?

Hi there! I just came by to tell you that a Mexican trans woman has just made history.
Wendy Guevara from León, Guanajuato, MX is the first trans woman to win a big brother style reality show on national television. She won with a whooping 18 million votes. You heard that right, in the country that holds the 2nd place for most transfemicides world wide she has won because she was voted for the most.
Not only that but in the Mexican capital and in her hometown people gathered together in what they called WendyFest to watch the finale of La Casa De Los Famosos cheering her on and hoping she’d win. AND SHE DID. And it wasn’t like a small scale watch party. IT WAS A HUGE TURN OUT.
Even before this show started she was already doing incredible things. This prize is just the cherry on top of the cake.
Many people (myself included) are so happy because a win like this can only mean that things are going to get better for the LGBTQIIA community but more so for the trans community that face many hardships in Mexico and LATAM as a whole.
This was a win for diversity. This was a win for inclusion. This was a win for trans women. This was a win for the trans community. This was a win for trans POC. This was a win for queer folks in general.
