i wondered if i could come home (yours is the first face that i saw) (1/1)
Summary: Chloe works in New York. Beca works in LA. The quarantine brings them together virtually. God Bless technology.
Word count: 4,335
Read below or on AO3.
Beca had initially been ridiculously excited about the prospect of staying home. She hated dressing up just to go and sit, spaced out at her laptop.
Now she has free rein to just wear whatever the fuck she wants while spaced out from the comfort of her own home.
A quick glance around however indicates that there isn’t much to call home anyway. When Beca had moved to Los Angeles with nothing more than her laptop, twenty USBs packed with remixes and original music, and a luggage full of clothes, she had pretty much expected this.
This being the whole struggling artist thing. Her father had advised against it, her step-mother had advised against it (not like Beca really was planning on listening), and her mother was—
Well.
Beca would rather not think about it. Of course, she wouldn’t.
But she did—it was all she could think about for those first few weeks in Los Angeles. Those first few months.
When she had first made the move, she had fantasized about her mother kissing in her on her head (a phantom memory if anything) and telling her how proud she was of her for chasing her dreams.
She had imagined her mother’s arm around her shoulder as they made that final descent into LAX.
She had imagined her mother’s proud smile when she had signed the papers for her first real job in the music industry—that breath of fresh air that really cemented in her memory that she had made it. She was there in the city of her dreams. She had moved across the country from Atlanta to Los Angeles.
But eventually, with time, after one let-down after another, Beca’s USB pile grew smaller and thinner and her job became less of a temporary thing and more of a full-time thing to keep her afloat.
Are you still proud of me? She wants to ask.
She can’t quite envision the look on her mother’s face—hell she can’t quite envision the look on her father’s face or even Sheila’s face—if she were to look around her small (but cozy) apartment.
Is this what you wanted for me? Beca wants to ask.
Change just doesn’t seem to come quick enough in a city with plenty of time to spare and too many hungry dreams to fulfil.
 * * * * *
 And then there’s this.
The whole quarantine mess.
It’s a form of change, Beca supposes. Maybe not quite the one she needs at that moment.
*New Notification from Outlook You have a new message
From: Aubrey Posen
CC: Chloe Beale
To: Beca Mitchell
Subject: HR and A&R Documents and Procedure — Microsoft Teams Meeting Request
Beca groans.
 * * * * *
Being a producer isn’t bad. It lets Beca flex her creativity from time to time (very, very minimally) and she gets to say she’s worked on interesting musical projects.
Grumbling to herself, Beca settles down in her chair after wrestling with her hair and brush. She figures she looks moderately presentable. She even swapped out her sleep shirt for a non-sleep shirt for the purposes of this video conference.
She has no idea who Chloe Beale and Aubrey Posen are anyway, but she’s already moderately annoyed that they both insist on video conferencing when this quarantine has made evident that literally everything can be done via email.
Beca takes a calming breath. The raise is a good thing. It came at a good time. It’s a good thing to get a raise at a job she hates especially when the alternative would have been to be let go. If she has to deal with HR for the sake of this, she will.
Not like she can do anything else.
The call comes in almost as soon as Beca wheels her chair closer to her desk. She fumbles, picking up her headphones and hitting Accept.
“Hi,” Beca says, waving awkwardly at her screen. “Uh. Wow. Hi.”
Almost immediately, Beca wants to clamp a hand over her mouth. She settles on dropping her hand into her lap and clutching the fabric of her shirt to distract herself from the embarrassment rising in her.
The young woman splashed across her screen is incredibly pretty. Almost intimidatingly so. Striking red hair, loosely draped over her shoulders in comfortable waves. Soft-looking lips pulled into a gentle smile.
And her eyes—Christ, Beca thinks—her eyes are what draw Beca in the most. Startling blue. The clearest of blues that Beca has ever seen.
“Wow?” The woman smiles at Beca. “That’s quite the greeting.”
“Sorry,” Beca mumbles hastily. She ducks her head. “Surprised to still talk to people during all this, I guess,” she lies quickly. She figures saying “you’re hot” wouldn’t be the most appropriate thing to say despite how true it might be.
The red-head quirks an eyebrow at her. “I’m Chloe Beale, nice to meet you Beca Mitchell.”
Beca can’t fight the smile this time. Chloe’s voice is nice. It’s beautiful and melodic. “Hi Chloe. Nice to meet you,” Beca parrots back. “Weren’t there supposed to be like...two of you in this meeting?”
“Oh, yes!” Chloe chirps enthusiastically. “Aubrey will be joining us in just a second—oh there she is,” she says just as Aubrey’s profile image pops into Beca’s screen, cutting the size of Chloe’s face on her screen in half.
“Good morning, Beca.”
“Good morning, Aubre–”
“It’s technically afternoon for us, but anyway.”
Beca clamps her mouth shut, choosing to push her lips into a forced, polite smile. She catches a glimpse of Chloe coughing behind her hand, clearly stifling a laugh of her own.
“Did you want to run through some of the documents and responsibilities, Chloe?”
Chloe clears her throat, professional mask back in place. “Yes, sure. Well, Beca, as a senior producer—”
 * * * * *
With half-open eyes, Beca drags herself from her bed the short distance to her desk. Foregoing her chair for the moment because she has no intent on actually sitting down yet, Beca opens her laptop and logs in to Outlook and Teams before opening Logic Pro X and GarageBand.
She has been working on some tracks for an up and coming artist as well as overseeing the production on an EP for a new artist signed to a label, so she’s kind of expecting a shitload of emails to start her day off. That can wait for the moment.
When she gets back to her computer, coffee mug in hand, Beca notices a notification marker on her applications.
*New Notification from Teams
Beca frowns. She’s not the usual recipient of messages ever. But when she sees who exactly messaged her, she can’t fight the grin. She puts her coffee down with some reluctance and opens the message fully.
Chloe Beale Hey sleepyhead, you’re finally up Thanks for sending the paperwork back yesterday
Beca Mitchell fyi i am three hours behind you timezones or something as aubrey would say
Chloe Beale Who doesn’t start their day at 6am?
Beca isn’t quite sure what to make of Chloe entirely. She’ll blame the echoing loneliness around her—loneliness being all she feels these days—but she would be lying if she weren’t totally and shallowly attracted to Chloe Beale.
But she barely knows her. In fact, Beca would go as far as to say she doesn’t know Chloe at all. Chloe could just be another faceless entity in the long string of entities in Beca’s life. Just another missed connection.
Beca sips her coffee, blinking blearily at her screen.
Beca Mitchell do you start your day at 6??
Chloe Beale It’s good for you!
Beca Mitchell coffee’s good for you
Chloe Beale i’m more of a tea drinker myself good for the voice
Beca Mitchell singer?
Chloe Beale used to be
Beca arches an eyebrow. She had known, from the sound of Chloe’s voice alone, that she was something special
(And sure, Aubrey had a nice voice too, but it had been used primarily to grate on Beca’s nerves so she’s choosing to look past it.)
Beca Mitchell whats the story there?
Chloe Beale Hmm maybe one day :)
Beca Mitchell all i have are days to spare for you
Beca hits send before she can regret it and immediately winces at how unexpectedly flirtatious it sounds. She moves to type a quick cover-up, but Chloe beats her in sending a message.
Chloe Beale i like the sound of that
Beca’s fingers hover over her keyboard. She can’t bring herself to admit the same thing, even though it’s true.
She does like the sound of that. Almost as much as she had liked the sound of Chloe’s voice.
 * * * * *
It ends up being so easy to fall into a routine when Beca realizes that she has something to look forward to with each subsequent day.
A routine that perhaps even involves waking up earlier so she can spend more time sending Chloe dumb GIFs and debate the best bagel spreads.
It feels nice.
It feels like something Beca could get used to.
Even if Chloe is incessantly cheerful and ridiculously chipper at any given point of the day. Beca kind of likes it.
It reminds her of sunshine and a much-needed breath of fresh air.
There is the added bonus (or nightmare) of Chloe’s incessant need to abuse the video conference tool.
“Beca, make sure you have those documents signed. A&R needs them as soon as possible.”
“You couldn’t have messaged this to me? Or emailed?”
Chloe grins, blindingly so. Beca doesn’t even try to look away.
“Where’s the fun in that?”
Beca tugs at the collar of her shirt (another new shirt) unconsciously before she realizes what she’s doing and drops her hand away. “And you’d know all about fun, would you?”
“Maybe.”
Beca shakes her head, mostly to hide the smile that rises on her face.
“Nice shirt by the way.”
 * * * * *
 Okay, fine.
Even that isn’t something that Beca finds herself annoyed with.
 * * * * *
Beca bites her lip, hitting SEND before she can stop herself. The email flies away from her, an email detailing a request to video conference with Chloe for some dumb, made-up reason.
Well, no, there’s an actual reason and it’s that Beca wants to hear Chloe’s voice. That’s a good enough reason.
*You have a new Outlook Notification. Chloe Beale has Accepted Your Invitation.
Beca smiles.
 * * * * *
Chloe Beale I’ve always wanted to visit Los Angeles
Beca Mitchell Come over here then!
Chloe Beale Maybe once this is all over
Beca Mitchell Oh right
Beca Mitchell Well if you ever need a place to stay…
Beca starts to sweat. She thinks about deleting her message, but what good would that do? Chloe has already seen it.
“Fuck,” she mutters aloud and promptly chooses to chicken out.
Beca Mitchell I know a lot of people who’d love to have you and i’ll bring you to all the best spots around town You know, me being an expert and all hahaha
“Fuck why did you say that?” Beca asks herself, resisting the urge to slam her laptop closed. She winces when she notices her unfinished work in the background.
She’s kind of more focused on the little indicator showing that Chloe has seen her message and the subsequent lack of response.
She is unfortunately sorely disappointed by Chloe’s response, despite her own attempts at haphazardly diffusing the situation.
Chloe Beale Sounds awesome!
Right, Beca mulls to herself. There hadn’t been a situation to begin with.
She lets the disappointment carry her through the rest of the day. The disappointing feeling—It is familiar but somehow more striking.
 * * * * *
The thing about Chloe is that she makes everything easy. She never makes Beca feel bad about asking too many questions and she never makes Beca feel totally lame for taking up her time. She assures Beca that it’s fine—that she doesn’t mind at all. It makes Beca feel like a rockstar for about two seconds before she remembers that it’s Chloe’s literal job to be kind and nice to people she works with.
Right.
They’re technically coworkers. Just that. Nothing more.
And then there’s the whole...is Chloe even attracted to women conundrum. It is nice to think that Chloe is attracted to women—that Chloe would be attracted to her of all people.
It’s just such a big what if question.
(And of course the “we live 3000 miles away” issue. That issue.)
There is a strange underpinning of something else—something that Beca can’t quite place. It sends a swooping sensation through her stomach when she thinks about it. The past month or so of communicating with Chloe was rife with tense, interesting moments that make Beca second-guess herself every time.
Barring the times when she word vomits all over herself, Beca is surprised that she’s maintained a connection with Chloe for this long.
 * * * * *
The dreams start near the end of the first month of knowing each other.
The awkward part about waking up from a dream about somebody she’s never even met in person is that Beca has no idea how to conduct herself. She barely knows how to do it in-person—conduct herself—let alone doing it online.
She tries to settle on something to occupy her mind while she works through some musical/creative block.
Her fingers type in chloe beale into Google before she can help herself.
“Fuck it,” Beca whispers, hitting enter.
She is surprised by the breadth of hits that Google returns to her. Interesting ones, nonetheless. She learns in short order that Chloe does voice acting on the side. Nothing overtly taxing, but it pleases Beca that Chloe has somewhat of a creative streak. She notes a few well-known animated series and some other gigs here and there.
An old YouTube video catches her attention.
Acapella Finals 2011
Beca can’t stop the grin that stretches across her face when she recognizes Chloe, red hair and all, front and center and singing.
She knew Chloe was a singer at heart.
She pulls up her chat before she can stop herself.
Beca Mitchell *pasted link* I see
Chloe Beale Oh my god!
Beca Mitchell Google knows all
Chloe Beale You were Googling me?
Beca’s smile drops. “Shit, uh—”
Chloe Beale Kidding! i googled you too. Didn’t think you were a taylor swift girl. All those remixes… <3
Beca blushes before she can stop herself. That had been a brief foray of fame—literally five minutes—when Taylor Swift herself had linked to one of Beca’s remixes. Beca hadn’t been savvy enough to capitalize on that in any way, however.
Beca Mitchell oh those... I wish i had more original things to say
Chloe Beale Your music is beautiful, just like you are I mean that in a totally non-weird way of course
Beca isn’t quite sure they’re saying the same things, but maybe they are. Chloe’s unwavering faith in her feels wholly misplaced more often than not.
But it’s nice.
This is nice.
Beca lets a smile consume her.
Beca Mitchell Flattery will get you everywhere
Chloe Beale That’s the hope
Beca Mitchell Back to acapella… i was wondering if i could pick your mind for an idea i had for this track i’m working on
* * * * *
The transition to Facetime and phone calls as opposed to Teams video conferencing was a fairly recent one. Beca discovered that Chloe is an equally eager texter. Emojis and all.
“Your voice somehow sounds better over FaceTime audio,” Chloe teases.
“I was going to say the same,” Beca replies before she can stop herself. Her heart flutters. “I wasn’t the one in acapella in college, after all.”
“Oh you would have fit right in. I would have whipped you into shape, I’m pretty sure. Or maybe you would have helped us win instead. Being as talented as you are and all.”
“I wish I could have known you then,” Beca says bravely.
“You would have changed my life,” Chloe admits. She says it with a smile, but there is no hint of a joke in Chloe’s tone. “I don’t sing anymore,” she finally says. “Not after that last acapella competition. The one you sent me.”
“Oh, why not? Your voice is…” Beca trails off, struggling to find words. For all the time she spends with music—literally layering vocals and instrumentals—she cannot understand how she cannot find appropriate words to describe how Chloe’s voice makes her feel. “I’m sorry...I’m usually better at this. Why don’t you sing anymore?”
“I had to have surgery for my nodes in my senior year of university. I’ve been too afraid to sing again.”
That breaks Beca’s heart more than anything. “But your voice is okay now,” she says lamely.
“I haven’t really had an opportunity to sing again. Working for B&R Records is the closest I can get to the music industry. Not that I ever thought I’d sing professionally or anything.” Chloe sighs, then her voice softens even more. “I admire you so much for pursuing your dreams, Beca. You’re so much better than you know. I’ve listened to your stuff.”
Beca swallows.
Her heart isn’t fluttering.
It is racing, almost uncontrollably.
 * * * * *
 They talk for hours.
Beca tries not to think about it as she wakes up to her phone pressed against her cheek uncomfortably and the faintest memory of Chloe humming something hauntingly familiar.
“Shit,” she mutters, realizing that her heart has yet to stop thudding with the force of emotions she feels.

Chloe ends up being the person Beca calls when she receives yet another change request for the track she had been working on. She isn’t allowed to move on to another track until this artist is absolutely pleased with the track and Beca understands how contracts works and stuff, but holy shit, she’s had it up to her damn forehead with Pimp Lo and his incessant demands to keep his music trashy (Beca’s professional opinion).
“I want to quit,” Beca declares to Chloe. She knows Chloe is done with work for the day even though Beca has about an hour or so left in her “shift” (she has decided time is a construct and she’s signing out for the day due to creative differences).
“Don’t quit,” Chloe says quickly. “And um...don’t tell me that. Professional responsibility and all.”
She says it with a joking tone, but it still stings ever so slightly for Beca. The reminder that she and Chloe are coworkers and nothing more. She’s sure she’s going to hear even less from Chloe as time goes on and when everything kind of goes back to “normal”.
But she kind of doesn’t want to stop talking to Chloe.
“It’s just annoying,” Beca complains.
“Oh honey, I know,” Chloe sympathizes. Beca warms at the term of endearment.
“Beca, your music is good,” Chloe promises earnestly. “I’ve listened to a lot of music over the past few years I’ve been working here...just promise me you won’t give up, okay?”
Unexpected anger wells up in Beca. She identifies frustration, annoyance, and some measure of pain—all of which have to do largely with this entire situation. Somehow, she manages to tamp it all down and focuses on the sincerity of Chloe’s voice.
“I just don’t want to...have my ideas shot down like this anymore,” she finally murmurs, taking a breath to steady herself.
“I know,” Chloe promises. “It won’t always be like that though.”
“I’ve been out here for a year. Verging on two.”
“I know,” Chloe repeats, sincere understanding in her tone. “And it sucks that Hollywood just eats people up and just...I don’t know. Spits them back out like that. But...you’re special. I know you are.”
Beca shudders with her own attempt to stifle a sob. “And that’s your professional HR opinion?” she asks, trying to make it sound more like a joke so Chloe doesn’t take it badly.
Chloe scoffs, then lets out a giggle. Beca wishes more than anything she could see her face. “Yes, that is absolutely my professional HR opinion and I think you should take it. I don’t come cheap.”
It’s less than what Beca hoped for. She had hoped for something a bit more—something closer to the kind of reassurance Chloe had been giving her over the past little while. This feels like two steps backwards.
“I wish I could see you,” Beca blurts.
Chloe doesn’t say anything for a moment. A moment too long. Beca’s face heats embarrassingly quickly. She is so thankful that she is alone in her apartment.
“I’m sorry,” Beca apologizes. “That was weird. And I didn’t mean to make things weird. I’m not weird, I promise. Maybe a little. But not like that.”
Chloe laughs. “Beca, it’s okay. I know what you meant. Or what you mean.” She laughs again, this time sounding more breathless. “It’s just...I guess it’s just late and we should probably...table this for another day.”
Beca’s heart plummets.
“We don’t have to table anything,” Beca says quickly, stung by the rejection. “Forget I said anything.”
“Beca—”
“Goodnight, Chloe.”

 * * * * *
Beca notices she has a request from HR for a video conference. There are no other details, but she knows it’s from Chloe. Her stomach tenses uncomfortably as she stares at the words on her screen. The conference is set up from about five minutes from now so she has about five minutes to get her shit together.
She hadn’t meant to ignore Chloe, she had just been a bit too absorbed into her work (as a way to avoid Chloe).
But she isn’t mad with the music she’s been making recently. She probably has Chloe to thank for that. For being an inspirational source.
She can do this.
She looks around, taking a deep breath as she takes stock of everything that she has in her apartment. Her eyes land on something by her window and she goes to grab it.
She returns to her computer just in time for the call.
“Hi,” Beca says, blinking into her computer screen. “Hi, Chloe, is everything—”
“You know, radio silence is probably the worst way to woo somebody.”
Beca thinks she might still be asleep. “Sorry?”
Chloe seems to be fighting a smile. “You don’t even know how cute you are, do you?”
“I’m not cute,” Beca says automatically.
“You are. In a hot way.”
“In a hot way,” Beca echoes. She grins. “Are you calling me hot?”
“I saw you checking me out that first day. Obvious even through webcam.”
“Oh.”
“I didn’t mind. I...never minded. Which is what makes this so hard,” Chloe says, lowering her head a little. She worries her lower lip between her teeth, leaning closer to her camera. “This is so weird and so hard. I didn’t expect to just...fall for somebody while we’re all just trying to figure out how to make things okay again, you know?”
“So…” Beca swallows, wondering if this is the appropriate forum for what she’s sure is about to come out of Chloe’s mouth.
“I like you,” Chloe admits. “I think you’re brave and talented and incredible. And there’s so much we still have to learn about each other, but I have been driving myself crazy thinking about how much I want to kiss you.” Chloe clears her throat and holds up a small pot of pretty, purple flowers. “These are for you. I couldn’t really go to the store to get a fresh bunch. But um. If I could, I would.”
Oh.
“Isn’t this against company policy?” Beca croaks out. She can’t quite believe what she’s seeing. “Like can’t they see everything? Even videos?”
Chloe shrugs. “I don’t care. Not really. Look around, Beca. Nobody really cares anymore. I just wanted to talk to you.”
Beca covers her face with her hand. “This is super embarrassing.”
Chloe giggles. “Oh stop. I’m the one literally holding out flowers to my screen.”
“No, it’s just—” Beca holds up the potted plant she had stolen from her windowsill. “Here. I brought this for you too.”
Chloe gasps. “A cactus? You shouldn’t have.”
There is a brief silence before they dissolve into giggles. It makes Beca feel the most complete and whole that she has in while.
“I’m sorry, by the way.”
“Were we even in a fight?” Beca asks aloud.
“No,” Chloe admits. “I just...thought I scared you off.”
“I think I scared myself off.” Beca crinkles her nose as she frowns. “If that makes sense.”
“That makes a lot of sense. I think it’s the most sensible thing you’ve said so far.”
 * * * * *
Eventually, the time comes where Beca can go outside again.
Beca knows what it means to have sunshine on her face. There is no shortage of it in Los Angeles.
There is no shortage of palm trees, of warm wind, of endless beach views.
There is no shortage of too many dreams and too little opportunities for those dreams to come true.
But this—the excited yelp Chloe lets out when she pushes off the pillar she had been leaning against and the solid weight of Chloe’s body nestled firmly against her own as her arms loop easily around Beca’s neck—this is so much better than anything Beca could have dreamed for herself.
She can feel her mother’s smile, warm like the gentlest of sunrises against the back of her neck. She can feel the weight of a new pile of USBs in her bag and a fresh outlook on life.
“I’m so happy you’re here,” Chloe whispers, her voice real and solid and there.
“Me too,” is all Beca can say.
She kisses Chloe like it’s the first day of the rest of her life.

Desperate Measures - Ch. 2/4
Title: Desperate Measures Author: aliciameade Rating: E for Explicit Pairing: Beca/Chloe Summary: Mid-PP3. They are quarantined. Chloe and Beca have everything they need to weather the mandated period of social distancing and staying home: food, water, shelter, games, entertainment, and each other’s company.
The one thing they don’t have?
Much-needed privacy.
Part 1
Part 2 below / on Ao3
~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~
Beca tries not to think about it.
She tries not to think about how she and Chloe laid in bed side by side touching themselves all the way to an unexpectedly simultaneous orgasm.
She tries not to think how she’d needed to feel connected to Chloe in the moment and what it had done to her to feel Chloe moving her hips and the subtle flexing in her arm as she worked her fingers within herself.
“Earth to Beca?”
She blinks and looks up. “Hmm, what?”
“It’s your turn,” Chloe says, gesturing toward the dice in the middle of the Monopoly board.
Beca’s losing by a lot; she didn’t want to resort to board games but it’s Week 3 of being housebound and anything to pass the time is worthy of consideration. “Oh, sorry,” she says as she scoops them up to roll, hoping she lands on one of Chloe’s hotel-improved properties so she can go bankrupt and end the game.
It’s been a week since that shared moment of intimacy. Neither of them has brought it up, nor any of the private confessions, since that night and Beca’s been grateful that Chloe respected her wishes.
But part of her, a part that is growing increasingly demanding to be heard, kind of wishes it would come up again.
Because Beca kind of really wants to do it again.
She hasn’t touched herself since that night, even though she’s aware that Chloe’s been finding excuses to check the mail (and take her time doing so), to take a walk around the block, or volunteer to do the weekly grocery trip. She knows why Chloe is doing it: it’s plainly obvious in the way she makes a scene gathering her things to leave and telling Beca, “Don’t have too much fun while I’m gone!” while winking at her.
Of course, none of these perfect opportunities had been aligned with any simmering need that Beca had and she’d spent the alone time doing things like tidying up the kitchen and returning phone calls.
When Chloe is home, however...that’s when Beca’s libido seems to enjoy reminding her that it exists.
“You’ve been so spacey lately,” Chloe muses while she collects Beca’s rent (not nearly enough to bankrupt her).
“Yeah, I don’t know.” It’s a spacey answer, Beca knows. “Cabin fever, I guess.”
She watches Chloe pick up the dice and then set them down again. “Do we need to talk about what happened?”
“What?” Beca says quickly, but she already knows what Chloe’s talking about.
Chloe kind of shrugs and offers a shy smile. “I don’t know about you, but I really haven’t been able to stop thinking about what we did.”
The statement makes Beca hold her breath as thoughts race through her mind and all ways she could respond and the consequences (benefits?) that could follow. She holds it until she can’t anymore and exhales. “Me neither. Wait, do you mean you can’t stop thinking about it because you wish we hadn’t?”
“No, Beca,” Chloe laughs. “Calm down. I really liked it. It was fun.” She shrugs again and slides her chair back from the table a few inches, something that makes Beca’s heart skip a beat. “It was nice to share that with you.”
“Oh.” Beca feels a smile tug at her lips. “Cool. Yeah.”
“Is this us talking about it?” Chloe asks.
“I thought we just did.”
Chloe leans forward to put her elbows on the table and prop her chin on her folded hands, a move that feels entirely conspiratorial and it makes Beca slide her own chair backward. “I guess that means you were worried I had some regrets?”
It’s Beca’s turn to shrug and she picks at her nails to avoid having to make eye contact.
“Does that mean you liked it?”
“I mean…yeah,” she mumbles, feeling her face start to heat up.
“Does that mean you’d be open to doing it again?”
That pulls her attention back to Chloe who is looking at her with bright eyes and a bottom lip snared between her teeth, nervous while she awaits Beca’s answer. It takes everything in her to not just dive back into bed and kick off her sweatpants. Instead, she tries to swallow and push her stomach back down in the correct place. “I mean, I guess I wouldn’t be opposed.” She hopes she sounds chill about it. Take or leave it. She’s willing to do it if Chloe wants to do it. Because that’s what friends do for each other.
She watches Chloe sit back at her response, her nails rapping rhythmically on the table.
It’s silent for an ungodly long time.
“Would you maybe want to do it right—”
Beca’s already halfway to the bed. “Turn off the light.”
~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~
It doesn’t feel like a taboo topic after the second time.
It would be hypocritical if it was; the first time had snuck up out of nowhere fueled by a racy, late-night conversation.
The second time was at 3:00 in the afternoon and turning the light off made little difference in how dark the room was. (It was not dark. At all.) It was a direct proposition that Beca readily agreed to.
She does have to suffer a few minutes of teasing afterward; she came so quickly that she had to lay there with Chloe for several minutes trying not to be obvious about watching while she brought herself to climax.
But after the teasing, they settle into their evening routine of making dinner together while singing along to Beca’s weekly playlist. They eat together at the table and clean the kitchen and collapse their bed back to a couch so they can sit and watch whatever movie Chloe picks to watch on Beca’s laptop propped on a chair in front of them.
It’s a thing that happened. Twice. And it’s fine.
~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~
It happens again the next morning.
Beca doesn’t even know what—or who—started it.
One second, Chloe was stretching and saying good morning and the next, they’re touching themselves beneath the shared blanket.
She can feel Chloe’s foot resting against her own and the way it moves and flexes with the rising and falling of Chloe’s voice.
Beca forgets to try to be quiet.

It kind of becomes a thing after that. It’s an activity they share like working on a puzzle, a board game, reading time, or going for a walk. It’s something that gets suggested as one suggests checking out a new documentary.
“This isn’t really something friends do,” she says (for some dumb reason) after she suggests it.
“Says who?” Chloe asks, already lying down in bed.
“I don’t know. Society.”
“Society has collapsed.” Chloe says it so ominously Beca can’t help but laugh. Because it’s true. What are social norms anyway?
~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~
Beca doesn’t let herself think about how normal it’s beginning to feel. When she thinks about the arrangement ending whenever life returns to some version of its former self, it bothers her. She doesn’t like that it bothers her.
So instead, she focuses on the present.
And at present, Chloe’s using Beca’s lap for a pillow while they read on the couch, Beca tucked into one end to give Chloe space to lie down along the rest of it, even though her feet have to perch on the other end of it.
One of her instrumental playlists is going, something mellow and kind of ambient and she’s absentmindedly playing with Chloe’s hair, listening to the way she sighs now and then and the quiet sound of turning pages.
“Bec?”
“Hmm?” She looks down when she feels Chloe’s eyes on her. “Would you mind if I…?” She glances down herself as if Beca couldn’t figure out what she was asking.
It does make Beca hesitate, though. She asked if she could do it. Not if they could do it. It’s never been a solo event. Solo, but mutual.
The very concept turns Beca on.
“Have at it,” she says, knowing Chloe can see right through her dismissive comment by the way she smirks up at her.
She pretends she’s not watching as Chloe drops her book to the floor so her right hand can slip down the front of the shorts she’s wearing while her left arm rests across her middle.
She pretends she’s not watching the way she can see the movement of Chloe’s hand between her legs, slow, subtle movements that are accompanied by quiet sighs. She’s not watching when Chloe’s other hand slips under the edge of her shirt and begins to inch higher, revealing more and more of her stomach to Beca—not that she’s watching—until Beca catches a glimpse of the lower curve of a bare breast just as Chloe’s hand covers it.
She pretends she’s reading fastidiously, still playing with Chloe’s hair, paying no attention to the fact that Chloe is masturbating in plain sight right next to her. No, not next to her: on her. Her head is still on her thigh and if she were to do something like moving it to make room for her own hand, Chloe would feel it. So she can’t.
She pretends that her underwear isn’t already soaked-through when Chloe moans, her hand visibly moving faster. She tries to act like she’s not staring, her own book forgotten and being set aside to watch. Tries not to like how when Chloe opens her eyes to look at her and sees her watching, she smiles and closes her eyes and touches herself more quickly.
She tries not to think about how she has her hand tangled in Chloe’s hair and how she learned that Chloe likes having her hair pulled and how her fingers start to curl into it until they meet resistance, and then she tightens them further until she knows it’s pulling.
Chloe gasps and she looks up at Beca again but this time she doesn’t look away, nor does Beca even as Chloe comes with a broken moan and she tries not to think about how she did something she knew Chloe likes during sex because she knew it would turn her on.
She explicitly did something to help her best friend get off—in a different way than they have been—and she doesn’t know what to do with that information.
She removes her hand once Chloe calms down only to have nowhere to put it that doesn’t feel awkward since Chloe’s head is right where it would rest so she has no choice but to return it to its original resting place where it resumes playing lightly. While Chloe is still working on slowing her breathing and is tugging her shirt back into place.
Beca picks up her book again and flips it open to a page—she has no idea if it’s the page she stopped on—and stares at it, her heart pounding and core aching as she tries to act normal because what happened is a totally normal thing for friends to do.
“Thanks,” Chloe says, interrupting her thoughts with her light, airy voice. “That felt awes.”
Beca has to wet her lips before replying, “Cool.”
“B-R-B!” Chloe says as she rolls off the couch to land on her hands and knees on the floor and she pops up with an unfair amount of energy. She disappears into the bathroom and Beca sets down her book again and closes her eyes to breathe.
She doesn’t understand what just happened. She doesn’t know if it was okay, but Chloe doesn’t seem upset by it. In fact, it seemed very much like she liked it. Enjoyed it, even. What Beca does understand is that she wanted to help Chloe get off, and doing so was a turn on.
She has to decide if she’s going to suffer and let her arousal fade or ask for a moment for her own release.
When Chloe returns, almost skipping back to the couch to hop onto it on her knees to kiss Beca’s cheek as though she’d been gone all day and not three minutes, Beca decides to ignore the demands her body is making.
They’re not supposed to be turned on by each other. Not like that.
“I’m so tight from being cooped up all day. I think I’m gonna do some yoga to stretch out. That okay?”
“Yeah, of course,” Beca says, relieved that Chloe is going to be doing her own thing for a while so Beca and work on turning down her thermostat. She pauses the playlist so Chloe can put on one of her yoga videos.
But she’d forgotten two important facts, though: 1) that Chloe would change clothes for this (Well, she doesn’t change clothes. She sheds her shirt, leaving her topless while she tugs a sports bra over her head.), and 2) that Chloe would be doing yoga on the floor right in front of Beca.
Chloe and her body, its strong lines and firm muscle stretching and bending, her back to Beca who had intended to use this time to stop being horny and instead she’s struggling to not touch herself while Chloe does all her sexy, slow bending.
It’s torturous.
She makes it an hour after Chloe rolls up her yoga mat before she breaks and asks to have her own moment. Chloe approves and Beca doesn’t even hide under a blanket.
She touches herself—fully dressed, of course, they’re just friends—while Chloe texts on her phone from the other end of the couch.
She doesn’t dare open her eyes to check, but she knows Chloe isn’t really texting. She can’t hear her thumbs moving over the keys or the messages sending and receiving, and Chloe never turns off that irritating sound that Beca’s learned to tune out over the years.
She can sense Chloe’s eyes on her and she can feel how much wetter that makes her.
She’ll deal with the reasons behind that later.

She kind of starts to stop caring about whether or not something she does is okay after that.
Chloe seems to have come to a similar decision and Beca actually gawks the first time Chloe takes off her shirt completely during one of their simultaneous sessions.
Chloe winks at her as she does it—she winks at her—and Beca struggles to control how quickly she’s going to come.
She’s learned that coming with Chloe is infinitely better than coming without her.

“This is so depressing,” Beca says as she crosses off another day on the wall calendar, marking the days since the lockdown began. They’ve reached Week 6 and though there are glimpses of hope of a return to normalcy on the horizon, they still have a long way to go.
“We just have to keep trying to focus on good things and not the bad,” Chloe chirps from the bed. She had yet to get up, having declared it a day of rest because, apparently, it was Sunday.
Beca couldn’t keep track of days anymore if not for her phone or the calendar. “Yeah, I guess,” she says, letting the pen that hangs, affixed to a string on the nail that holds up the calendar, drop to the wall. She knows there are much worse scenarios she could be in. One of them is having their dear roommate Amy present throughout this ordeal.
“Now make me a coffee and then come cuddle,” Chloe says and Beca doesn’t have to look to know she’s making puppy eyes at her.
She can never resist that. Not that she would want to.
~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~
“What are we doing for this day of rest?” she asks once they both have cups of coffee on their respective nightstands, along with buttered toast Beca had decided to make for them.
They’re both propped up in bed in their pajamas, having stolen Amy’s pillows a few weeks ago to cushion them against the metal rails in the structure of the pull-out couch. The new flatscreen television and AppleTV Beca had broken down and ordered online sometime in Week 4 sits somewhat precariously on a stand they fashioned out of overturned chairs and Chloe’s underbed shoe storage container. They haven’t owned a television since they lived in Atlanta; there’s really no room in the apartment for one when three people are there, but with just the two of them they made it work.
“Well, since you’re feeling said—”
Beca feels a little defensive. “I’m not feeling sad.”
“It’s okay to feel down, Bec,” Chloe says with a gentle pat to Beca’s leg. “Let’s do something that you want to do.”
Something about Chloe’s suggestion makes Beca’s mind wander, but she knows Chloe is referring to normal platonic activities.
Not certain other normal platonic activities they’ve been engaging in that result in simultaneous orgasms.
“Well, there are just so many options; I’m overwhelmed with choices,” she says dryly, though she manages a smile when Chloe nudges her shoulder with her own. “I guess let’s watch a movie. You always pick good movies; find something sad. And no mocking me if I cry.”
“I would never,” Chloe says, and Beca knows in her heart that she won’t.
Beca doesn’t cry...well...maybe she tears up a little at the end of The Notebook but no one could blame her for that.
It helps, though. She hasn’t had her usual time alone to get mad or sad about things in life and it’s all been weighing on her. It’s nice to lean into Chloe’s side when she invites her in to cuddle and be sad without having to talk about it. Chloe’s always been that way, intuitive enough to know when to push Beca to talk about her feelings and when to simply be a quiet presence.
Beca knows Chloe is starting to coddle her when she announces she’s making breakfast for dinner. It’s Beca’s favorite. And she indulges in it for the evening; it’s incredibly comforting to feel cared for when everything feels scary and uncertain. It’s nice to have someone she loves set a mug of hot cocoa in front of her, piled high with spiraling whipped cream, and be laughed at when she intentionally gets it on her nose while taking a sip.
It’s soothing to crawl into bed and feel Chloe move in behind her to start playing with her hair.
Chloe never asks Beca to talk about whatever might be on her mind, and Beca knows Chloe is there to listen if she does want to talk.
But for now, she wants to settle heavily into the bed and sigh as Chloe’s fingernails scratch over her scalp and down the back of her neck to make her shiver. She wants to close her eyes and feel the warmth from Chloe’s proximity and listen to her quiet breathing and forget about everything else.
It’s so easy to sink into it. Chloe’s fingertips feel so nice where they trace the shell of her ear and the sensitive skin behind it. Where they swirl in slow patterns down her neck and along the back of her shoulder until they’re lightly dancing down the length of Beca’s arm where they play with her fingers, Beca parting them to let Chloe’s fit in the empty spaces. They stay that way for a moment before the journey reverses.
Beca can feel the way goosebumps rise on her arm and she hears Chloe’s quiet chuckle at Beca’s physical response.
It’s not the only physical response she’s experiencing, however.
For as nonspecifically sad as she’s felt all day, Chloe doting on her to try to lift her spirits or at least comfort her, especially now while Chloe is quite literally petting her, Beca’s finding it all to have the unfortunate side effect of sexual arousal.
Admittedly, they have been sharing several normally private moments. It’s felt a lot like “What Happens in Self-Isolation Stays in Self-Isolation,” and they’ve each prompted such moments multiple times. Not that Beca’s been officially counting or comparing, but she’s fairly certain she’s been masturbating more often in this situation, with Chloe, than she ever did before it by herself.
There’s not much else to do, though. She can only handle so much video entertainment per day and she’s limited on how much work she can do with only having her laptop and a couple of small pieces of equipment at home. It’s a distraction and a fun one that feels good during and after. One that she’s starting to want to experience more and more frequently.
Like now, for example, as Chloe’s fingernails graze over the soft skin below her ear with her body fitting so closely to Beca’s.
She clears her throat. “Chlo?”
“Hmm?”
“I need a moment.”
It’s become their code after too many stuttering, vague hints. It’s non-threatening and otherwise innocuous but they both know what it means.
She hears Chloe hum and her touch disappears, only to return a few seconds later. “Okay.”
Beca’s acutely aware that Chloe is still touching her and not moving away to give her space, something to-date they have almost always done. Except for that one time that Beca pulled Chloe’s hair.
The fact that she’s not retreating after accepting Beca’s request makes Beca’s heart race. Chloe hasn’t touched her while doing it. Not really, not more than the most casual of touches, almost accidental. It’s not like when Beca was playing with her hair; they’re much closer now. Beca can feel Chloe against her back and the way she fits into the bend at Chloe’s waist.
The closeness makes Beca’s face hot and her palms sweat and as desperate as she suddenly finds herself to seek out relief, she’s incredibly nervous. She must be tense because she feels Chloe’s fingers massage the sides of her neck.
“I can move?” Chloe asks quietly.
Beca doesn’t know how to answer.
Then, hesitantly, “...Or I could stay?”
Beca hesitates, too, and then decides that this situation, the entire scenario they’ve found themselves in is an alternate reality and societal rules and norms don’t matter anymore.
She nods and feels more than hears Chloe sigh, warm breath drifting across her bare neck and ear and it makes every hair on Beca’s body stand on-end and makes her heart race.
She has to shift a little and she can feel Chloe behind her with every move she makes. She’s not positive, but she thinks Chloe might have moved closer than she had been because she even feels her knee behind her own as she shifts her legs apart enough to fit her hand between them.
She doesn’t bother with any type of build-up. What had been given to her for relaxation had been all the foreplay she needs and she slips her hand down the front of her shorts and underwear and feels how wet she really is.
Beca must react to her own touch in some way because she hears Chloe sigh behind her and feels the way the massaging of her neck turns lighter, more heavy touching than massaging.
She feels what few boundaries that still exist between them be reduced even further when she starts teasing her clit while Chloe’s fingers dance along her shoulder and arm. It’s the same arm Beca’s using to touch herself and the further Chloe’s hand travels down her arm, the quicker it makes her breathe.
Chloe shifts behind her, hips pressing forward into Beca and it forces the moan she’s been holding back to escape and she hears Chloe echo it in her ear.
It doesn’t happen just once. Chloe does it again, and again until it’s a rhythm that has Beca almost riding her own hand with how their hips are moving together. She knows that Chloe knows what she’s doing. Beca had confessed something to her and she knows Chloe didn’t forget. She’s doing what she’s doing because she knows Beca likes it.
Chloe feels so hot behind her and the hand she has on Beca is restless as it travels up and down her arm and Beca has the distinct thought that it feels like it’s a caged animal pacing to be released, trapped within the boundaries of only touching neutral areas of Beca.
She wants to tell Chloe to touch her.
She wants to twist her shoulders and roll over and drag Chloe’s hand between her legs the way she’s been imagining it for so, so long.
Instead, she digs her fingers into the pillow and works those of her other hand faster against herself.
Chloe’s hand finally breaks away from Beca’s arm and she feels it on her hip, holding her as they move together. Chloe’s moaning, too, and Beca can’t tell if she’s doing anything to touch herself or not; she’s too caught up in the way it feels to have Chloe’s hips rolling into her ass again and again to help Beca fuck herself faster and faster until Beca’s crying out in ecstasy and teeth sink into her bare shoulder as Chloe’s muffled moan rings out behind her, shuddering together.
She doesn’t realize until her breathing begins to slow that Chloe’s hand is no longer on her hip. It’s on her wrist. Which is under her shorts. In her underwear. Any lower and Chloe would be able to feel how wet the experience has made her.
Beca wonders if it had gone on much longer if Chloe would have been the one to push further and cross that final boundary line.
She wonders what that means, that Chloe has pushed so far already. If it’s just the passion of the moment or if it’s something more.
The lips that touch her shoulder over the sore mark make her think that maybe, just maybe, it could be something more.
“God, Beca,” Chloe whispers and Beca feels her hand move with uncertainty, like Chloe’s fighting with herself what to do until it’s retreating and her body scoots back an inch or two to let cool air in between their overheated bodies. “You are so…” She doesn’t finish the sentence but Beca feels her forehead press against the back of her head as she exhales heavily. There’s a hand in her hair, too. It’s not doing anything with purpose, but she feels it.
She wants to ask how Chloe was going to finish her sentence, but instead, she hears a quiet, “I love you.”
Chloe tells her she loves her all the time. Daily. Multiple times per day, even. When Beca refills her water bottle, or brings her her phone that she left on the counter, or cracks an especially good joke.
It sounds different this time. Something about it makes her brain—and heart—respond to it and she feels the beginnings of the panicked need to flee set in until she realizes she has nowhere to flee to. She is home. With Chloe. Where she will be for the foreseeable future. Where time is fake and rules don’t exist and there’s no such thing as “normal” and she gets to play house with the only person she’s ever wanted to play house with.
The panic recedes and she removes her hand from her shorts where it had remained while they cooled off and uses it to reach for Chloe. It’s her only free hand; she’s laying on her right arm. She doesn’t even think about—or maybe she doesn’t care—how her fingers are still wet when she finds and grabs Chloe’s forearm to wrap it around her waist.
Chloe’s breath catches and if it’s from the demanded embrace or from the way Beca’s fingers slip against her skin for a brief moment, there’s no way to know. Chloe doesn’t say anything; she just tucks her own fingers between Beca’s waist and the bed.
“I love you, too,” Beca allows herself to reply.

“Do you think this is what it’s like in frat houses?”
“What?” Beca asks before biting her lip and moaning.
“Guys jerking off everywhere all the time.”
She feels herself grimace and tries instead to focus on how little of Chloe is concealed by her panties and hand. “Why are you making me think about that right now?”
Chloe laughs and Beca watches her fingers speed up. “Because we’re doing this at the table in the middle of breakfast. Feels like a guy thing. Also, your tits are super great.”
Beca just arches an eyebrow at her. So maybe she is topless at the table because she decided she’d take off her shirt when Chloe said she needed a moment in the middle of pouring syrup on her French toast. Maybe they’re both kicked back in the uncomfortable metal folding chairs they use for eating (because the slightly nicer, sturdier ones are the base for their TV stand) touching themselves. Maybe Chloe hadn’t put on any shorts or pants that morning and her legs are parted and she’s watching Beca watch her.
“That was definitely a guy thing to say.”
Maybe they’re having a normal, platonic conversation while they fuck themselves. There’s a lot of things that have happened in the past seven weeks that Beca would have never thought she would experience. Repeatedly and shamelessly masturbating with her friend ranks high on that list of “will nevers.”
“I’m admiring them in a super gay way, don’t worry,” Chloe says before her breath hitches and her hips start to try to move.
“That’s fine, then,” Beca says.
There’s no more talking after that.
Not until Chloe’s moaning out curse words and Beca’s just moaning.
~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ - ~
“Why don’t we just go for it?”
“Go for what?” Beca looks up from her hand of Uno cards; it’s overstacked thanks to Chloe managing to drop three Draw Fours on her and she’s trying to plot out the best plan of attack to dump the numerous yellow cards she’s collected onto the pile in the middle of the bed between them.
“Need a moment,” Chloe says almost dismissively and gains Beca’s full attention.
“Okay...what do you mean by, ‘Why don’t we just go for it?’”
“I don’t know. Like, we’re always trying to somehow still be modest but we’re literally watching each other.” Chloe shrugs and it shouldn’t look as innocent as it does considering the topic of conversation. “It’s like porn. But still with clothes.”
Beca can’t help but smile; it’s all so absurd. “I was literally topless at the breakfast table yesterday. And you weren’t wearing pants.”
“I know. But like, why were you wearing pants? Why was I still wearing my hoodie?” Chloe tugs at that same hoodie now and Beca fully expects her to remove it, though she does not. “Why are we even pretending that we have any shame at this point?”
“Oh, my God,” Beca laughs. “So you just want to be naked.”
Chloe shrugs. “Well, yeah. If you’re my porn, I want to see you.”
“I’m your porn?!” Beca blurts, in disbelief, really, that this is even a real conversation.
Chloe tilts her head and appears hurt. “Am I not yours?”
She feels her mouth hanging up and snaps it closed. “Yeah, I guess so.” Chloe’s more than her porn. She’s every single fantasy she’s ever had rolled up into one being. “I feel like I should feel guilty about that.”
“Why?” Chloe tosses her entire hand of cards onto the discard pile and Beca knows they’re finished playing Uno. “I told you I like being watched.”
“Yeah, but you’re my friend.” Beca regrets it the moment she says it. They’ve developed an unspoken agreement to stop applying traditional principles to themselves while in the situation we are in.
She sees it on Chloe’s face, the disappointment. Followed by determination. “Take off your shirt. Give me your cards.” She’s already gathering up the game, aligning the cards to stuff them back into the box and Beca surrenders her own.
She surrenders her shirt, too, as requested, and watches as Chloe steals glances at her while she finishes putting away the game until she’s tugging her hoodie over her head to toss it on the floor.
“Well?” Chloe asks, thumbs hooked under the waistband of her flannel pants. “Yes or no?”
Beca can’t believe it’s even a question, but she knows she’s the one who threw in the wrench of hesitation. “Yeah,” she says with a nod as she shifts to remove her own sweatpants.
It’s not that they’ve never seen each other naked before; they see each other naked all the time. But this is different; this time, they’re in bed wearing nothing but underwear because Chloe wants to look at Beca’s nude body while they masturbate together.
Beca’s the first one to start slipping her underwear off her hips and down, and she’s painfully (achingly) aware that Chloe’s watching her do it, so she jokingly spins them around her finger to toss them across the room. It succeeds in making Chloe laugh, which she desperately needed to hear after their tiny hiccup. “Well, if I’m your porn…” she says, finding unexpected confidence under Chloe’s appreciative gaze.
Chloe nods and Beca watches her slip her own underwear down to drop them to the floor.
“What kind of porn are you looking for?”
She truly, genuinely doesn’t know where it’s coming from. It feels like she’s been somehow possessed by an alternate version of herself, but maybe it’s just who she is in this strange alternate reality they’ve found themselves in. She’s sitting in bed, naked, across from her equally naked roommate, hugging her knees to her chest but finding herself wanting to part them to let Chloe see.
But Chloe’s eyes are on Beca’s, and they are suddenly so, so dark. “What do you mean?”
She does part her knees a little, then; the intrigue and excitement of performing in some way creeping up on her like a shot of tequila. “What are your search terms?” she says, arching an eyebrow at Chloe. She lets her own eyes wander a little after the question, at how soft Chloe’s breasts look and how stiff her nipples already are. She doesn’t let herself look lower, though; she can see enough.
She hears Chloe take a breath and hold it and she knows she’s trying to get a read on Beca and what their shared intentions are.
“Vibrators.”
Beca feels her eyebrows shoot up and she sees the surprising but still welcome concern on Chloe’s face that came with her answer. She wants Beca to be okay with it and Beca knows if she’s not, Chloe will let it go.
But Beca is okay with it. She is like, so okay with it. She’s been using her hands for so long because she was too shy to ask Chloe about trying something else. Which might be why she decided to take them down this path. “Okay,” she says, having to turn around and bend down to fetch her personal toy from its drawer next to the bed. She hopes it’s charged; she hasn’t had it plugged in for weeks.
“Okay?” Chloe sounds surprised and is wide-eyed when Beca turns back, purple vibrator in-hand.
“If I’m your entertainment,” she says, “then...consider me on-demand.” It might have sounded corny but just saying the words turned her on. She’s suddenly aroused by the concept of sexually performing to satisfy Chloe’s desires. She’s aroused by the concept that Chloe wants to watch her for sexual gratification.
Chloe seems to deflate, but it’s from the way she’s exhaling and almost closing in on herself before she’s closing her eyes burying her fingers in her own hair and Beca can see the way she’s tugging on it before she flat-out groans. “Lay down,” she says after a few more seconds and looks up as soon as Beca starts moving.
It makes Beca’s pulse race to hear Chloe tell her what to do. It makes her wet, too, and she knows wetness is going to be streaking her thighs soon. “Tell me what you want,” Beca says. She wants Chloe to simply answer, ‘You.’
Instead, Chloe says, “Turn it on and tease yourself,” as she moves onto her knees to crawl over until she’s kneeling at Beca’s feet.
Beca notes that she’s not kneeling primly with her hands folded in her lap; her knees are parted and even though she’s a few feet away, Beca can...yeah, she can look and see the contours between Chloe’s legs, and her hands are resting on her thighs.
Her thumb finds the power button easily and presses it. It buzzes to life and she feels herself grow instantly wetter, both at the sound and the way Chloe’s breasts rise and fall more quickly when her breathing speeds up. And perhaps because Chloe’s telling her what to do.
“Tease myself?” she questions even as she starts to move the toy down, not quite recognizing her own voice.
Chloe nods and Beca can see the way her fingernails are pressing into her thighs. The way there’s already a light pink flush on her chest.
Beca’s not quite ready for how intense the vibration feels after not experiencing it in so long, despite having it on the lowest setting. The tip of it grazes between her legs and she tries to gasp and moan at the same time, resulting in a somewhat embarrassing choked sound and her eyes slamming closed.
She doesn’t have time to deal with being embarrassed, though. Not with the way Chloe sighs, “Oh, wow.”
Beca’s scared her heart might pound right out of her chest. Or give out altogether. “Like this?” she asks as she teases the vibrator against her clit, touching it and removing it, slipping it up and down and taking it away. She suddenly becomes extraordinarily self-aware that Chloe’s eyes are surely fixed between her legs.
It makes Beca want to part her legs further than the little she had when she laid down. So she does. She inches them wider until she bends her left knee to be able to open herself comfortably.
Chloe’s voice makes it to her ears. “Just like that.” The sound of Chloe moaning quietly also makes it to her ears and she forces her eyes open to look.
She wants to see what this is doing for Chloe.
But she’s not ready for it. She’s not ready to see Chloe on her knees, still very, very nude, with one hand between her legs and the other playing with her nipple. She’s not ready to see the way Chloe’s fingers are moving over a visible clit and the way it all glistens in the dim light and how Chloe’s eyes are fixated between Beca’s legs.
It makes her moan and her hips roll, pushing her clit against the vibrator to make her moan again. She watches Chloe’s hips roll, too, in response.
“Keep going,” Chloe says, voice low and unfamiliar like Beca’s own. Her hips don’t stop rolling, though. She sets a slow pace and Beca starts to follow it, holding the lightly vibrating toy against herself.
She doesn’t think she will be able to last very long; she’s not sure she’s ever been as turned on as she is in this exact moment. She can feel how wet she is and how easily the vibrator slides against her. Worse, she’s starting to be able to hear it.
She wonders if Chloe hears it, too, because she says, “Now fuck yourself with it.”
Beca feels like someone threw a bucket of hot coals on her body. Everything is suddenly on fire and all she can do is whimper at the request. She feels as pathetic as she feels powerful, though. She’s ultimately in control, even if she’s allowing Chloe to tell her what to do, and the trust and surrender that encompass that make for a heady experience.
She honestly can’t believe she’s doing it, but she does it. She even manages to open her eyes to keep them fixed on Chloe as she tilts the vibrator and slides it down to her entrance and back up a few times to coat it with wetness before she’s slipping it inside herself, each inch making her have to try harder to not just break into orgasm until it’s fully buried.
Beca already feels like she’s out of her mind, and Chloe doesn’t seem too far behind. She watches as Chloe’s hand dips further between her legs and she knows Chloe’s slipping her fingers into herself like Beca’s doing with the vibrator.
She clenches around the toy and it makes her hips jump.
“Oh, my God, Beca,” Chloe moans and Beca watches her start fully riding her hand, her free hand flailing for a few seconds before it lands on her own knee.
Beca knows she needs something to stabilize herself. She almost tells Chloe to just crawl forward and straddle her face and hold on to the back of the couch.
The thought of it makes her drag the vibrator out and she hears Chloe’s empathetic moan at the sight, which only makes Beca wetter still. She presses back in and Chloe moans again.
Beca moans, too.
It kills her to do it, but she can’t keep her head lifted any longer to watch Chloe. She won’t be able to keep herself from coming if she’s fucking herself and watching Chloe doing the same. Not like this. This is all so raw and visceral. It’s never felt like this. Not with Chloe. Not with anyone.
She doesn’t wait for Chloe’s instruction. Her thumb finds the correct button at the base of the toy and presses it to turn up the vibration strength, immediately groaning at the added stimulation.
“Just like that,” Chloe breathes and Beca feels herself swell with pride at the knowledge that Chloe likes it. “You look so good.”
It makes Beca part her legs wider and her foot bumps Chloe’s knee in the process. It seems to make both of them pause for a brief second and Beca decides to leave it there. She chooses, again, to touch Chloe in some way while they do this. While she pumps her vibrator in and out of herself steadily.
“God, you’re so wet, I can see it,” Chloe groans.
Beca just nods and brings her free hand to herself to tend to her now-neglected clit. She rubs it with precision and the combination draws a particularly sinful moan out of her. She’s going to lose it soon, especially if Chloe keeps moaning the way she is. Beca can feel her, too. She can feel it in the way the bed moves and how her leg shifts against Beca’s foot how fast Chloe’s hips are moving.
It spurs Beca’s on, too, and she works the toy more quickly, thumbing the button to kick it up again, desperate for more of everything. She almost shudders with the new intensity and has to clench against it to hold off once again, just holding it deep inside herself until the urge to come lessens.
“Don’t stop,” Chloe says and she sounds so desperate Beca almost comes just from that.
Instead, she nods and starts thrusting into herself only for—
“Are you fucking kidding me,” she groans, dragging the vibrator out of herself.
“What? What’s wrong?” Chloe asks, sounding so breathless.
Beca looks at her and memorizes it all; Chloe’s never looked so aroused and positively wild and Beca’s pretty sure she probably looks much the same. Then she looks at the toy and clicks the power button, only for it to not respond. No light. No buzz. Nothing.
“It died.”
Chloe’s, “What?” is an airy laugh, almost like she can’t believe it.
“It hasn’t been charged in two months,” she explains. Then feels like there are way too many words being shared. “I can still…” she finishes, moving it back between her legs, intending to use it like a simple dildo instead.
“No,” Chloe says and Beca’s shocked when her hand, the one holding the vibrator, is suddenly in Chloe’s grasp, her hand around Beca’s around the base of the toy. Her other hand is still between her legs but she’s no longer moving her hips.
Beca swallows hard. She knows something is going to happen. It looms with inevitability and has been for weeks. Or months. Years, maybe. She thinks the moment might have finally arrived.
“Lesbians.”
Beca has to shake her head to clear her thoughts. “What?”
“My search terms: lesbians.”
Beca just stares at her. She’s trying to prepare herself but it feels impossible.
“Lesbian sex.”
She hears herself whimper and somehow feels heavier, like she could sink into bed at any moment.
“Lesbian sex best friends.”
Beca’s entire stomach flips. “That’s what you want to watch?” she manages to say.
Chloe’s nod is tentative, almost shy despite what’s been transpiring between them for the last many minutes.
Beca feels herself nodding. “Yeah. Yeah, okay.”
She watches the way Chloe rushes forward and she drops the toy somewhere in the bed so she can drag her nails down Chloe’s back the second she’s on top of her, hips between Beca’s open legs.
Chloe stops short, though. Her lips are hovering millimeters from Beca’s.
It’s Beca who lifts her head to kiss her.
It feels like fire.
It’s hot and aggressive and Chloe’s hips are already rolling against Beca who worries for a quarter of a second that this might be over way too fast before she stops caring about that. Chloe’s on top of her, hips grinding against Beca while they devour one another’s kiss and it’s all Beca can do to hold on, to wrap her legs around Chloe’s waist and bury her hands in her hair and meet Chloe’s tongue stroke for stroke.
“I want to touch you,” Chloe says against her lips and all Beca can do to respond is nod because Chloe’s sucking on her tongue.
She feels Chloe’s weight shift and she knows why. Chloe needs her hand because she’s going to touch Beca.
Beca also has to drop her legs back to the bed again and she feels Chloe shift until she’s straddling Beca’s thigh, hot wetness pressing against it to make Beca moan. She can’t believe she’s feeling that part of Chloe on her body. She can’t believe that Chloe’s trying to distract Beca with the way she’s kissing her as if Beca won’t notice that her hand is skating down her body, touching but not lingering on her breasts before swiftly moving between her legs.
“Fuck, Chloe,” she whines, on the edge of orgasm once again.
She can feel Chloe working herself against her thigh and it only makes it all the more difficult for Beca to hold on. She digs her nails into Chloe’s shoulders to hold on as Chloe’s fingers move over her with a level of reverence Beca really doesn’t have the patience for right now.
“You’re so wet,” Chloe breathes into her mouth before kissing her again, fingers moving through that wetness until they’re starting to work in circles against her.
Beca doesn’t stand a chance and she knows it.
She just holds on and tries to focus more on how Chloe feels working herself on Beca’s thigh than she does on the way Chloe’s playing with her clit.
She can hear herself but it’s almost drowned out by Chloe’s own desperate moans. Beca wants  to hear more of it so she turns her face away, not because she doesn’t want to kiss her anymore but because she wants to hear her. And it’s getting increasingly difficult to breathe.
Chloe moaning her name in her ear is what does it.
Her climax hits her hard and with little warning and she hears a, “Oh, my God, yes,” moaned, too, and she knows Chloe’s coming with her. She knows because she can feel it in how arousal is dripping down the outside of her thigh just like her own is dripping between her legs. She knows because she’s heard Chloe come so many times in the past month she knows every nuance of her voice and breath and the way her body almost shakes with release and she can hear that and feel all of that now.
It lasts for so long Beca’s not sure she’s not coming twice back-to-back. She doesn’t care what it is, though. She just holds on to Chloe and lets the pleasure and ecstasy wash over her again and again until Chloe’s laying heavily against her.
Her face is in Beca’s neck and she can feel her there kissing it tiredly, the occasional graze of a tongue drawing a shiver out of her.
Her hand is still between Beca’s legs. It’s at rest but Beca is acutely aware of its presence until it’s retreating. She feels it dragging up her stomach, can feel the wetness that travels with it, and her breath sticks in her throat when she feels those same wet fingers find her left nipple to start teasing it.
It makes her jaw drop; it’s so sensual and sexual and her back arches into the touch.
Chloe lifts her head at her movement and looks down at her, the first eye contact they’ve made since they kissed. Beca can see there’s a question of some kind in her eyes; she hopes it’s a question that Beca wants to respond to in agreement. But for now, she just wants Chloe to keep touching her.
“That feels…” Her voice cuts off when Chloe’s fingers pinch and then pull until her wet nipple slips from Chloe’s grip. “Oh, my God.”
“Good?” Chloe says with a lazy smile.
Beca nods and melts into the kiss that Chloe presses to her mouth. She’s just settling into the kiss when Chloe ends it and moves away. She’s about to be disappointed when Chloe’s other hand sneaks under her chin to push it up and away so Chloe can kiss her throat. Beca feels a mark being left and she’s thrilled she won’t have to worry about anyone at work seeing it.
Chloe keeps moving, though, and her heart starts to race again as her lips travel over her collarbone until they’re moving up the hill of her breast.
Beca knows what’s coming but no fantasy could prepare her for what it feels like for Chloe to take her nipple into her mouth, tongue moving over it languidly. A moan follows and it’s Chloe’s, not Beca’s. Beca’s is stuck in her throat.
“I can taste you,” Chloe exhales when she lets Beca’s achingly hard nipple slip from her lips. “So good.”
Beca’s moan finally finds its way out at those words and she brings her hand up to push her fingers into Chloe’s hair again. “Don’t stop,” she says, breath already quickening.
She’s certain she’s never been so aroused before. She’s also certain she’s never had sex like this in her life. She hears Chloe’s agreement to not stop, though it’s little more than a hum as her tongue and lips play with Beca’s nipple, teasing and sucking and nipping gently to make Beca gasp.
She’s quickly desperate again and she’s about to ask Chloe for more when she has the stark realization that she hasn’t touched Chloe at all. Not more than her back and shoulders and hair.
If Chloe notices that Beca’s working her arm between their bodies, she doesn’t react to it. Beca knows she’s hyper-focused on what she’s doing; her nipple is so over-stimulated that it’s almost starting to hurt but she never wants Chloe to stop sucking on it. Not for anything. She wants her to do it forever.
She has to push her own hips down into the bed to be able to fit her hand between her leg and Chloe.
It doesn’t allow for fanfare or gradual teasing but Beca doesn’t care. What she cares about is the surprised-sounding moan that comes from Chloe, even with Beca’s nipple still in her mouth, and the way her hips lift to give Beca’s hand more room. What she cares about is how slick and hot Chloe is and that she’s finally touching her, finally hearing what she sounds like because of the way Beca’s fingers brush over her clit.
Chloe’s teeth connect again and it makes Beca hiss. “Other one, maybe?” she says with a gentle tug on Chloe’s hair that generates another moan from Chloe.
She’d almost forgotten Chloe likes her hair being pulled. Almost. She glances down and almost feels faint at the look of ecstasy on Chloe’s face, eyes closed and face flushed and lips parted as she moves. She doesn’t even open her eyes as her hand cups Beca’s other breast to push it up to bring its nipple to her lips.
It’s been so deprived compared to the other that Beca can scarcely breathe from the contact. She can’t take her eyes off it though. Can’t look away from how it looks to have Chloe’s hair between her fingers, to have Chloe’s hand on her breast, to have her nipple in Chloe’s mouth.
It’s so mesmerizing she forgets she’d had other plans until Chloe moans and pushes herself against Beca’s fingers.
Beca can feel her need and she tucks two fingers together and reaches to find Chloe’s entrance and she lets Chloe be the one to move to take them inside, which she does with a moan that makes Beca’s breast slip from her lips but she recaptures it quickly.
Beca probably should have expected it given their position, but feeling Chloe’s hips starting to move, makes Beca feel dizzy. Chloe’s riding Beca’s fingers and worshiping her breasts and Beca’s so turned on she doesn’t know how to ask for what she needs, but she doesn’t have to. Chloe stops holding up Beca’s breast, adjusting her own angle to be able to continue reaching it, and slips that hand between Beca’s legs again, not hesitating to push into Beca’s body.
“Fuck,” she exhales as she drops her head back to the pillow, unable to watch any longer.
She curls her fingers and feels Chloe do the same, the pace picking up again quickly.
“Beca,” Chloe whimpers, her forehead resting against Beca’s chest as they fuck each other, Beca’s hand in her hair to hold on.
Beca can only moan and writhe and try to keep her fingers inside Chloe who is starting to move so hard and fast against her that it’s making it difficult. They slip out a few times but when it happens, Chloe stops and waits for Beca to find her again before she’s riding her again.
Chloe’s hand isn’t very focused, either, but Beca doesn’t need it to be. It’s inside her and Beca can do the rest of the work as she works her hips against it, listening to Chloe moaning her name again and again like it’s a curse word until she feels Chloe quivering from within, and a rush of heat, and Chloe’s hand pushes hard against her so she can grind against it and then they’re coming together. Again.
Beca tries to listen to the way they sound together but it’s hard to think about anything but the pleasure rippling between her legs and the way it feels for Chloe’s cunt to clench around her fingers again and again.
“Oh, my God,” Chloe groans once they’re both still. She’s cautious and courteous about the way she detangles herself from Beca, who is so spent she feels like she could fall asleep in two seconds, until she’s sprawled on her back next to Beca.
“You okay?” Beca manages to ask because Chloe hasn’t stopped making sounds.
“I think I’m still coming,” Chloe says with a weak laugh followed by a quiet moan. “Oh, my God, Beca.” Another sigh. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fucking great,” Beca says after heaving a sigh and letting her head loll to the left to look at her. “God, that was so good.”
She hadn’t really meant to say that out loud. There hasn’t been time to figure out what the afterglow mood was going to be, if it would be okay to acknowledge things a certain way.
“That was the best sex I’ve ever had,” Chloe says, followed by another laugh and a groan that has her bringing her hands up to cover her face.
Beca feels her entire body blush. “Seriously?”
Chloe turns her head and peeks at her from between her fingers. “You’ve had better?”
Beca feels herself smiling. “No,” she says. “But I thought you might have.”
Chloe’s hands fall away; she’s smiling, too, and she shakes her head. “Nothing like that.”
Beca knows she’s smiling way too big but she can’t help it. “Cool.”
“Yeah,” Chloe laughs. “Cool. I can’t feel my legs.”
Beca blushes again but this time it’s accompanied by pride; she likes that she made Chloe feel that good. She lets her eyes roam over Chloe’s body, spent and on display next to her and she drinks it in until something in her periphery catches her eye. She has to tilt her chin to see, and then she laughs.
“Dude, my nipples are like, permanently hard now.” They’re both still standing at firm attention, much more than their normal state of arousal.
Every filter she’s ever put on herself over the years feels absent now and it’s freeing. She feels free.
Chloe nods. “It’s a good look on you.”
Chloe meets her eyes and they both fall quiet. Beca wonders if it’s healthy, or even humanly possible, to become so aroused so quickly so soon after such a hard release but Chloe’s looking at her like she feels the same way.
Chloe even starts to move but Beca puts up her hand to stop her.
“Just...I need a moment.” She needs to finish gathering herself before Chloe destroys her again.
“But we don’t have to do it that way anymore,” Chloe says with a smile, her hand lacing with Beca’s to pull until Beca’s the one turning onto her side and moving until she’s sitting astride Chloe’s hips.
“No?” Beca asks, using her position to arch and stretch her back, something she notices Chloe watching appreciatively.
“This is much better,” Chloe replies, her hands moving lazily over Beca’s thighs and waist until they’re gently cupping her breasts. “But I do still want to watch you fuck yourself with that when you recharge it,” she adds with a nod of her head to the right where Beca’s dead vibrator lays somewhere all but forgotten.
It warms Beca and she smiles as she bends down, intending to kiss her, but she stops short. “Only if I get to fuck you with it, too.”
“Deal,” Chloe whispers against her lips.

The next morning, Beca decides to stop crossing dates off the calendar marking the days they’ve been home. She takes the calendar off the wall entirely and shoves it into a drawer.
She’d rather not be reminded of the passage time.
Not when Chloe’s in bed waiting for her to return with their traditional cups of coffee after staying up all night.
Beca’s never been more physically exhausted in her life.
She hopes the feeling never goes away.
The End (probably...yeah, probably.)

Weekly Bechloe - Enemies
I've taken it in a weird place as usual.
Read on AO3 here
Word Count: 2800
This is for the weekly bechloe thing while everyone's in lockdown.
As usual I have not read over this because I got sick of it and just wanted to finish it. Please tell me about anything hugely embarrassing I've done or missed.
Again, I don't write to be serious, my writing is designed to be ridiculous because we all need that every now and again.
Enjoy or not, it's up to you!

2020 BeChloe (Mini)Fic Month - Chapter 3
AFTERLIFE
The Afterlife (also referred to as life after death) is the belief that the essential part of an individual's identity or the stream of consciousness continues after the death of the physical body.
Warning: Due to the nature of the prompt, there will be a character's death in this Chapter. Don't hate me.
{This picks up from Week 2's prompt "Quarantine."}
The BAs were having a full rehearsal one week before the State Acapella Championship when they were interrupted by Beca's dad.
"Dad?" Beca said upon seeing him enter the Auditorium. "What are you doing here?"
"Beca, may I speak with you for a moment?"
Beca nodded and turned to the group.
"Great job today, everyone," Beca said. "I'm calling it. Get out of here and have a great weekend."
The girls started gathering their belongings, and Beca walked over to her dad. Chloe stood watching because something seemed off with Mr. Mitchell.
"Dad, are you okay?" Beca asked, seeing her father's red-rimmed eyes. "Did something happen?"
"There's no easy way to say this," Warren said. "Beca, your grandmother passed away in her sleep last night."
"Grandma Mitchell?" Beca choked out. Warren nodded his head and wiped a tear from his cheek.
Chloe jumped when she heard a heart-wrenching sob echo around the Auditorium. Her head jerked toward the sound in time to see Beca collapse into her father's arms. Chloe put a hand to her mouth as she watched Beca sob against her father's chest. If Beca was crying, something bad happened, and Chloe's heart broke for Beca.
"What's going on?" Stacie asked, also watching Beca and her father.
"I don't know," Chloe said with tears in her eyes. "I'm going to go check on Beca."
Chloe slowly made her way over to the father and daughter.
"Mr. Mitchell, is everything okay?" she asked hesitantly.
"My mother passed away in her sleep last night," Warren said with a catch in his voice.
Chloe let out a gasp as tears filled her eyes. "Oh, my God, I'm so sorry."
"Thank you," Warren said as he gently pulled Beca back so he could look at her. "I'm going to take you home, okay?" Beca nodded. "We'll stop by the office and have you excused for next week since we have to fly to New York for the, uh, the fu-funeral."
Hearing the catch in his voice, Beca pulled her father toward her and hugged him tightly.
"Mr. Mitchell, if there's anything my family or I can do, please don't hesitate to ask."
"Thank you, Chloe," Warren said. "I appreciate your kind offer. I don't know what we need right now. We're still trying to wrap our heads around it."
"Beca?" Chloe said softly, causing the girl to look at her.
"Anything you need, call me, okay?" Chloe said.
Beca nodded her head and wiped the tears from her face. "Thanks," she mumbled. "Could you tell the girls?"
"Absolutely," Chloe responded immediately. She pulled Beca into a hug and whispered, "I'm really sorry about Grandma Mitchell. I'm going to miss her so much."
Beca nodded into Chloe's shoulder. "Me, too," Beca whispered as fresh tears fell.
~~ Afterlife ~~
Later that night, Beca had managed to get her emotions under control. Picking up her phone, she saw a few texts of condolences from the team, and it warmed her heart. She pulled up her text thread with Chloe and sent her a text asking the redhead to give her a call. It felt like only seconds before her phone was ringing and the caller ID popped up with Chloe's name. Beca answered.
"Hey, thanks for calling," Beca said.
"Are you okay?" Chloe asked softly.
"No," Beca responded honestly. "But, I will be."
"Is there something I can do?" Chloe asked.
"Yeah, that's why I wanted you to call," Beca said. "I won't be flying back to Barden until next Saturday."
"That's the day of the State Acapella Championships," Chloe said.
"I know," Beca said. "Everything has been taken care of to get you guys to Atlanta, and that's where I'll be flying into. Once I land, I'll meet you guys at the Conference Center. I just wanted to let you know."
"I"m glad you're going to be able to make it," Chloe said. "It wouldn't be the same without you."
"Don't worry," Beca said. "I'll be there." There was a brief moment of silence before Beca spoke again.
"Hey, Beale?"
"Yeah?"
"Don't let this go to your head, but I'm glad we're friends again."
Chloe let out a small gasp and tears came to her eyes. "We are?"
"Of course, we are," Beca responded with a light chuckle. "I don't cry in front of just anybody."
Chloe chuckled. "I'm glad we're friends again, too. So, um, I was going to hold rehearsals while you're gone. Is that okay?"
"I think we're more than ready," Beca said, smiling when she heard a somewhat frustrated sigh on the other end of the phone. "But, I trust you, and if you think more rehearsals are needed, go for it."
"Really?" Chloe squealed.
"Yes, really," Beca said. "I have to go. We have an early flight tomorrow. I'll try and call later."
"Okay," Chloe said. "Be safe and call me if you need anything. Oh, and send me the information on the funeral arrangements once you know them. We want to send flowers."
"Yes, ma'am," Beca said, ending the call.
~~ Afterlife ~~
Before turning in for the night, Beca set her alarm and sent a few thank you texts to her team. She laid on her bed, staring up at the ceiling and wiping the tears that started to fall again.
At some point, sleep took her into the world of her dreams, and her Grandmother Mitchell was the headliner.
"Beca," a voice called entering the murky depths of Beca's sleep. "Beca, wake up, sweetie." Beca's eyes fluttered as her brain caught on to the sound of the intrusion. "Beca, I need you to open your eyes." Beca opened her eyes to close them immediately. They opened again and closed just as quickly as she was not ready to wake up. "BECA!" Beca sat straight up in the bed, her heart pounding. She swallowed and looked around. Her eyes widened, and she scrabbled back until her back hit the headboard.
"Who-who are you?" Beca asked the figure standing at the foot of her bed.
"It's me, sweetie," the figure said. "Grandma."
Beca got on her hands and knees and slowly crawled closer to the figure. Suddenly, the figure transformed and was now a human form. A human form that Beca knew well. Tears came to Beca's eyes as she whispered, "Grandma?"
"Yes, sweetie, it's me," Sophie replied.
"But how can it be you? You're de-" Beca stopped and swallowed.
"Dead?" Sophie finished. "I know. I am."
"Then, how are you here?" Beca asked.
"I could feel your sadness and came to comfort you," Sophie said. "It's what we Grandmas do."
Beca let out a watery chuckle because it was something her grandmother always used to say to her.
Beca let out a small sob and looked at her grandmother with tears streaming down her face.
"I don't know how I'm going to feel when I walk into your house, and you're not there."
"Oh, my sweet baby," Sophie cooed. She spread her arms wide and said, "Come here."
Beca closed the distance between them and fell into her grandmother's arms.
Grandma Mitchell held Beca until her sobs turned into hiccoughs, and she calmed down. Beca pulled back and looked at her grandmother.
"How can you be hugging me?" Beca asked. "In the movies, when someone tries to hug a ghost, there's nothing there."
Sophie laughed, and Beca's heart warmed. Beca loved her grandmother's laugh.
"The Afterlife is quite surprising," Sophie said. "My body is no longer alive, but my stream of consciousness, or spirit as some call it, is alive. I can show myself in my true physical form so you can see and touch me."
"Thank you for coming to visit me,' Beca mumbled against her grandmother's shoulder.
"Don't worry, my sweet girl," Sophie said. "I'm always around and will visit you when I feel you need me to be there for you."
"I love you, grandma," Beca said, squeezing Sophie tighter.
"I love you, too," Sophie said.
~~ Afterlife ~~
Beca woke the next morning with a smile on her face, remembering the dream she had where her grandmother had visited her. She got up and took a quick shower before dressing and heading downstairs. Her dad and Sheila were drinking coffee when she walked into the kitchen. Her dad stood by the center island, staring down into his cup. He looked sad, so Beca walked over and hugged him.
"You okay, dad?" Beca asked as her father returned the hug.
"I am," Warren said. "We need to leave in about an hour for the airport. Are you packed?"
"Yeah, I packed last night," Beca said.
Warren opened his mouth as if to say something, but closed it when his phone rang. He let Beca go and answered the call.
"Hey, Matt," Warren said, answering the call from his brother.
Beca and Sheila could only hear Warren's side of the call.
"That all sounds good, Matt. Thanks for taking care of everything."
"Could you send that to me, Beca, and Sheila? We have folks here we need to share it with."
"Hm-mm," Warren said. "Hold on, I'll ask her."
Warren turned to Beca. "Matt wants to know if you'll pick out a dress for mom to be, um, buried in."
Beca nodded, and Warren got back on the phone. "She said she would do it."
"Got it. We'll see you at the airport in a few hours. I love you, too, Matt."
Warren ended the call and looked at his wife and daughter.
"Matt finalized the arrangements and is going to send them to all of us."
"That's good," Beca said. "I promised Chloe I'd send them to her."
"I have a few more things to pack," Sheila said as she stood. "I'd better get to it."
Sheila left Beca and Warren in the dining room.
"I had a dream about grandma last night," Beca said, causing Warren to look at her.
"It seemed real," Beca continued. "I hugged her and could smell her perfume."
"Jean Naté," Warren said with a chuckle. "Matt and I used to get her a bottle for every birthday and Mother's Day."
"It is her signature scent," Beca said with a soft smile.
~~ Afterlife ~~
"Uncle Matt!" Beca called out as soon as she saw the man.
Matt hurried over and grabbed his brother, Warren, in a hug. The two men stood unashamed as they held onto each other in the middle of JFK Airport. Matt pulled back from the embrace, sniffling, and wiping his nose.
"You okay, Matt?" Warren asked. "I'm sorry you had to handle everything on your own."
"Don't be," Matt said. "You know how mom is, was. She had everything planned out down to the music and flowers.
Warren chuckled. "That sounds about right."
"Come on, let's get your luggage and get you to the house," Matt said. "Before I forget, we have an appointment with her lawyer on Wednesday for the reading of the will."
"That's good," Warren said.
"How are your kids holding up?" Sheila asked Matt.
"They're doing okay," Matt responded. "I don't think they're really old enough to understand." He turned to Beca. "How are you doing, sprout?"
"I'm good," Beca said. "It won't hit me until we get to grandma's house, and she's not there."
The three older adults became quiet as they nodded, having the same feeling.
~~ Afterlife ~~
The ride to Sophie's house was quiet. Warren, Matt, and Sheila exited the car while Beca remained in her seat.
"Are you planning on sitting out here all day?" Sophie's voice startled Beca.
"Jesus!" Beca blurted out.
"Nope," Sophie said. "Just grandma is fine."
"You're scared the daylights out of me," Beca said, looking to her left to see her grandmother sitting there.
"I'm sorry," Sophie said. "Maybe I can wear a bell around my neck, so you know I'm here."
"Are you planning on popping in on me on the regular?" Beca asked.
"Maybe," Sophie said, causing Beca to grin. "I felt how anxious you were, so I thought I'd walk into the house with you."
"Is anyone else going to see you?" Beca asked. "Or will I look like I'm talking to myself?"
"They'll see me if I want them to," Sophie said. "But they don't need me as much as you do."
"Can you promise me that you'll always be there if I need you?"
"I always was and always will be," Sophie said.
Beca looked down, nodding her head. "I think I'm ready to go in."
"Let's go then," Sophie said.
Beca opened the car door and stepped out. She was surprised to see her father, Sheila, and Matt waiting for her.
"We thought we'd all go in together," Warren said as Beca joined them.
Beca smiled, and when she looked back over her shoulder, her grandmother was no longer there.
~~ Afterlife ~~
"Beca, I don't want to push you, but we need to pick out a dress so we can get it to the funeral home."
"I'll go do that now," Beca said and slowly made her way up the steps.
Beca entered her grandmother's bedroom and went to her closet. She looked through the clothes hung there and pulled out a sky blue dress. Beca smiled because it reminded her of Chloe's eyes.
"Rebecca Cooke Mitchell," Sophie's voice called out from outside the closet. "You are not having me wear that for all eternity. It makes me look like an old lady."
"You are an old lady," Beca said with a smile.
"Don't be cheeky," Sophie said. Beca could tell by her voice she was smiling. "Just because I am an old lady, doesn't mean I have to look like one."
"Okay," Beca said, hanging the dress back on the pole. She pulled out another and stepped out of the closet, holding it up for Sophie to see. "How about this one?"
Sophie smiled when she saw the dress. It was one of her favorites.
"That's the one," Sophie said.
Beca stepped out of the closet and gently laid the dress on the bed. She then chose whatever else she thought was needed and placed everything in a small bag.
"I guess that's it," Beca said, looking around at the same time realizing that she couldn't see Sophie.
It was late when Beca and her family got back from the viewing for her grandmother. She was in her room when her phone's text notification pinged. She looked to see that Chloe had texted her, asking her if she could call.
Beca placed the call the Chloe instead; Chloe immediately answered.
"I wasn't expecting you to call me," Chloe said, answering the call.
"I thought I'd save time," Beca said. "Is everything okay?"
"I was going to ask you the same thing," Chloe said. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," Beca said. "It's been a little weird, but my grandma is helping me get through it."
"What?" Chloe asked.
"Okay, so don't be freaked out, but I've seen my grandmother. And can talk to her."
"What do you mean?" Chloe said, sounding confused. "You can feel her around you?"
"No," Beca said and let out a sigh. "That night, after I found out my grandmother had passed away, I had what I thought was a dream. My grandmother was calling my name and woke me up. When I did wake up, she was standing at the foot of my bed."
Chloe listened intently as Beca told of talking to and hugging her grandmother. And how her grandmother helped her pick out the dress she would wear for her funeral.
"I swear I'm not making this up, Chloe," Beca said.
"I believe you, Beca," Chloe said. "The next time she shows herself, tell her I said hi and that I'm going to miss her."
"You're making fun of me," Beca said, pouting.
"No, I'm not. I swear," Chloe said. "I believe that you believe your grandmother has visited you. I just don't believe in ghosts."
"She's not a ghost," Beca said. "I hugged her and didn't go through her like in the movies."
Chloe let out a small scream. "Are you okay, Chloe?" Beca asked.
"I, uh, take back everything I just said," Chloe whispered to Beca.
"Hello, Chloe," Sophie said, causing Chloe's eyes to widen.
"Grandma Mitchell?" Chloe squeaked out.
"Is my grandmother there?" Beca asked through the phone.
"Uh-huh," Chloe said, nodding her head as if Beca could see her.
"Ask why she's visiting you?"
"Wh-why are you visiting me?" Chloe asked Sophie.
"I'm not sure," Sophie said. "I can sense when Beca needs me, and I sensed it just now, only I ended up here with you instead of with Beca."
"I was, um, Beca was telling me about seeing you," Chloe said. "Only I, I didn't believe her."
"Oh," Sophie said. "Do you believe her now?"
"Yes!" Chloe said, nodding her head.
"Good," Sophie said and disappeared.
"Grandma Mitchell?" Chloe called out, reaching for the empty space where Sophie was just standing. Chloe shook her head, unable to comprehend what just happened.
"What's going on, Chloe?" Beca asked.
"She was here, but now she's...gone," Chloe said.
Beca chuckled. "Yeah, she does that. Here one minute, and gone the next. I think she knows when I need to see her and then gets pulled back once the need passes for the moment."
"My heart is racing," Chloe said with her hand on her heart. She let out a small laugh.
"Beca!" Warren's voice called from downstairs.
"Chloe, I have to go," Beca said. "My dad's calling me."
"Okay," Chloe said. "I'll talk to you later."
~~ Afterlife ~~
Beca saw Sophie several times over the next few days. Her grandmother seemed to know when Beca needed her. Either to talk, or just get a Grandma Mitchell hug.
Beca was packing on Friday night when Sophie appeared again.
"Did you come to say goodbye?" Beca asked with a smile.
"I sensed your sadness," Sophie said.
"I'm going to miss you and this place," Beca said, sitting on the edge of her bed.
"Don't worry," Sophie said. "I'll still be around."
"I just wish," Beca started and stopped. She ran a hand through her hair. "I just wish you had seen me perform with my group. We have the State Championships tomorrow, and I wish you could be there."
Sophie pulled Beca into a hug. "I'm sorry I haven't gotten to see you perform, too."
Beca sniffled, and Sophie hugged her tighter. Suddenly, Beca fell back onto the bed as her grandmother disappeared.
"Grandma?" Beca said. She frowned when her grandmother didn't reappear as she had expected she would.
~~ Afterlife ~~
The next morning, Beca's plane landed, and she texted Chloe to let her know. Chloe texted back to tell Beca their rehearsal time had been moved to two o'clock, and the girls were having lunch at the hotel.
Beca read Chloe's text and decided to head to the hotel and join the girls for lunch.
"Beca!" Chloe called out when she saw Beca walk into the hotel's restaurant.
"Hey!" Beca said as the other girls welcomed her.
Amy grabbed Beca in a bear hug, whispering, "I'm sorry about your grandma."
"Thanks, Amy," Beca said.
Beca seemed sad and looked around, hoping to see her grandmother. She got sadder when she didn't appear.
"Beca, are you okay?" Chloe asked, having seen Beca looking around.
"I don't know," Beca said softly. "I haven't seen my grandma since last night. She usually shows when I'm sad, or anxious and I've been both today. I, I think she might be gone forever."
Chloe put her arms around Beca and laid her cheek on the top of Beca's head. "I'm sorry, Beca."
"It's okay," Beca said sadly. "She said she'd always be here when I needed her." Beca let out a small sob, and tears ran down her face. "And I really need her."
Tears came to Chloe's eyes as she continued to hold Beca. After a moment or two, they separated, and Beca wiped her eyes. Chloe was grateful that the other girls didn't say anything about seeing Beca cry.
~~ Afterlife ~~
After lunch, the girls made their way to the Conference Center for their final rehearsal. Chloe stayed close to Beca, in case Beca needed her.
The rehearsal was a bit lackluster—Beca's sadness casting a shadow over the team's enthusiasm.
Chloe spent the rest of the afternoon just sitting with Beca until it was time to return for the competition.
Chloe wanted to do something to cheer Beca up but didn't know what to do.
The Barden BAs were waiting backstage for their turn to take the stage. Beca looked around, the sadness oozing out of her when her eyes suddenly widened, and she grabbed Chloe's arm.
"She's here!" Beca said excitedly.
"Who?" Chloe said, looking around.
"My grandma," Beca said. "She's really here!"
"I don't understand," Chloe said.
"Don't you see her?" Beca asked, her eyes bright with excitement.
Chloe shook her head but couldn't help the smile that came to her face when Beca started bouncing up and down. The rest of the team looked at Beca with furrowed brows. Worried about this sudden change in Beca's demeanor.
"Barden BAs, you're up next," the stage manager told them.
The girls got excited, spurred on by Beca's sudden enthusiasm.
"Let's do this," Beca exclaimed as the emcee announced them.
Beca literally bounced out onto the stage, followed by her team. They got into position, and Beca counted down.
By the time the Barden BAs finished their set, the entire place was on their feet, clapping and cheering. Beca grabbed Chloe and spun her around.
"What has gotten into you?" Chloe asked, laughing.
"I was sad earlier because my grandma was gone," Beca said, trying to catch her breath. "But she's here. Chloe," Beca said and took a breath. "This is the first time my grandmother got to see me perform."
Chloe looked around and smiled when she saw Sophie give her a small wave from the side of the stage. Chloe waved back, and Sophie disappeared.
Chloe wiped a tear from Beca's face and softly said, "I'm so happy for you."

I Hate That I Don’t Hate You
Rated: T (Minor Language)
Pairing: Bechloe
Summary: Story based off the Bechloe Week Prompt: Enemies (It’s basically all fluff...)
Excerpt:
“Baby, please!” Chloe pouted as she looked over at her girlfriend, who wasn’t looking at her. Instead was trying to pretend like her attention was on her laptop.
“Choe, no.” Beca stated simply as she typed a few things into her computer to save the progress on her song. She turned to Chloe after she was done. “We don’t have time and I don’t know how to like do that…”
“You…” Chloe countered. “You don’t have the time, but I do! I’ll figure everything out, I promise! Come on!? You know when we do, you’ll love it!”
“Chloe you work almost as much as I do.” Beca pointed out as she folded her arms over her chest, almost as if to say she wasn’t backing down. “We aren’t doing this. I’m sorry but no. At least not right now.”
“Bec….” Chloe whined, suddenly the cutes, most irresistible puppy dog face popping out. Beca groaned and leaned back in her chair.
“Stop! Don’t look at me like that.” Beca complained.

A/N: Ok this is the beginning of an idea I had a few weeks ago after seeing somebody send an ask about the Bellas as Breakfast Club characters. Lucky for me the person that got the ask had never seen The Breakfast Club so they had no opinion. I, on the other hand have seen it a lot. Might post this up on Ao3 once I get more (or all) of it done. This is my contribution to the #WeeklyBechloe mini-challenge from @bechloe-week for the prompt “enemies”. So here we go.
Chloe Beale walked into the library and sighed to herself.
Chloe Beale, prom queen.
Chloe Beale, student council president.
Chloe Beale, 3.75 GPA.
Chloe Beale who was taking a seat in the front row of the study tables in the main area of the library to wait for Saturday detention to start.
She sat and watched as her fellow inmates wandered in. Aubrey Posen, star of the girls basketball team and Chloe's best friend, was the first one to show up.
“Hey Chlo.” Aubrey said as she flopped down in one of the chairs at her table.
“Hey Bree.” Chloe said before stopping short at the sound of the door opening.
Emily Junk, a rather skittish nerdy sophomore (but already taking junior and senior level classes), poked her head in the door with a deer in headlights look on her face that seemed to Chloe to be her perpetual expression. She quickly darted into the room and took a seat in the other row of tables in the second table of three. She kept her head down and kept fidgeting trying to find a place to rest her hands. Chloe suspected the girl had never been in detention before, let alone the all day hell of Saturday detention. Chloe watched as the poor girl nearly jumped out of her skin at the noise of the door opening again.
Chloe looked back around to see Stacie Conrad, unapologetic school slut, walk in wearing something Chloe thought wouldn't be out of place in a strip club (if she had ever set foot inside a place like that). She strode purposely to the back row and took a seat before pulling out a file and starting to work on her nails.
Once no one else walked in after a couple of minutes Chloe and Aubrey started quietly chatting. Emily was still trying to figure out what to do with her hands. And Stacie seemed to not give a single shit that she was in detention.
It wasn't until nearly fifteen minutes after detention officially started that the door was violently yanked open.
“Get the hell in there.” Vice Principal Smith snapped.
In all the time she had been at this school Chloe still couldn't figure out how he had gotten a job in education. If it ended in -ist or -phobic he probably was. Not to mention the fact that he seemed to hate kids of every age. The general consensus was he was either related to somebody really important or he had some seriously juicy blackmail material on several people.
Chloe train of thought was catastrophically derailed when she saw who he was talking to as he shoved them thru the door.
“Son of a bitch.” Chloe whispered.
“Oh fuck.” Aubrey said at the same moment.
“Get your fucking hands off of me!” Beca Mitchell, the schools biggest unrepentant asshole and self styled petty criminal, snapped. Beca stumbled as he shoved her again. “Asshole.”
Beca stalked into the room and claimed a seat at the table directly behind Chloe and Aubrey, kicking her feet up onto the table and slumping backwards as she closed her eyes. It looked like she was competing with Stacie for who obviously gave less of a shit about being there.
Given her reputation Chloe was a little surprised that Beca didn't have a brass “This seat reserved for” sign bolted to a seat in there. She turned her back on the surly brunette and did her best to ignore her.
“Ok delinquents. For the next seven hours and … forty-one minutes you are going to sit in this room and think about what you did.” Vice Principal Smith started. He glanced at Chloe and Aubrey.  “You will not speak.” He saw Emily starting to pull a textbook from her backpack and glared at her. “You will not do homework.” He shoved Beca's feet off the table. “You will not sleep.” He snatched Stacie's file out of her hands. “You will not do your nails. Instead you will think about what you did. Then you will write an essay about what you did, why you did it, what it says about you as a person now, if you want this stupid shit to define your future, and who exactly you think you are.”
There were five sets of eyes staring at him with varying degrees of disbelief and distain.
“And don't even think that you will get away with anything. I will be right across the hall in my office and the door to the library will be open so I can see all of you every second of the day. Any questions?”
“Yeah. I have one.” Beca's voice came from behind Chloe. She turned to find that Beca was still lounging with her eyes closed. “Did you go dumpster diving behind the K-Mart when they were going out of business or did you actually go inside and pay for that piece of shit 'suit'?”
“You will find out the answer to that next Saturday.” He responded as he turned on his heel and walked out of the library.
“You know, there aren't many people I have met that you can tell how much of a douchebag they are just by the way they walk.” Aubrey whispered to Chloe as she inclined her head towards the retreating form of Vice Principal Smith.
Chloe slapped her hands over her mouth to keep from laughing out loud. “Bree!” She hissed once he had disappeared around the corner into his office.
Stacie waited a few more moments before pulling out another file and several bottles of nail polish in various colors.
Emily slowly started to panic.
Beca put her feet back up on the table and waited all of 45 seconds before sighing loudly. “Ok enough of that bullshit. I'm bored.”
“Why don't you just sit there, be quiet, and pretend to write this stupid essay.” Chloe whisper shouted over her shoulder.
“Agreed. I've got a game next weekend and I can't afford to miss it you reprobate.” Aubrey shot Beca a withering look.
“Ooo. 'Reprobate'. Been cramming for your SAT's to come up with a five dollar word like that Posen?” Beca quipped.
“Why don't you just shut up?” Chloe hissed.
“Am I getting to you?” Beca grinned.
“No.” Chloe snapped. “I just want to focus on this stupid essay and get through this day with as little interaction with you as possible.”
“Princess. You couldn't ignore me if you tried.”

Jesse's Girl
This is my first time writing bechloe fanfic, I’ve written for other fandoms before though. I thought that these weekly prompts might be a good way to get my feet wet and see how it goes. This is my take on the enemies prompt. This is a really loose re-write on the hood night party from PP2. Dont be mislead by the title, its definitely bechloe 😉. Let me know what you think 😊
You can read it below or on AO3

                                                   Jesse’s Girl
It’s no secret to any of the Bellas or Treble Makers that Chloe and Jesse aren’t the closest. Their interactions – which are few and far in between – are usually coated in a thin layer of ice. Everyone knows the true reason for the bitterness between the two has nothing to do with who either of them are but it has more to do about a certain person – one short, brunette alt girl…who seems completely oblivious to why her two favorite people can’t seem to get along. Beca is Jesse’s girlfriend and Chloe is her best friend, at least that’s what Beca and Chloe like to think. Of course, the two girls are painfully oblivious to the fact that they are in love with each other; but Jesse is no idiot. He can see it, but who is he to break it off with the girl he loves. As long as Beca will have him, he’s not going to end it. Which is how he’s ended up in the current situation.
“Jesse, where is Beca? I thought she was going to be with you tonight?” Jesse can see the flames of something close to anger or maybe annoyance flick behind the red head’s eyes as she stares him down.
“I thought she was with you?” Jesse counters lamely. He knows where Beca is. And honestly, he’s surprised Beca didn’t tell her other half about the internship.
“I thought she was with you?” Chloe looks more confused, the tone of annoyance seemingly gone. He feels bad about lying to Chloe, maybe. But he’s not going to be the one to tell Chloe if it’s clear Beca has been avoiding doing so.
“Well I hope she shows up soon, wherever she is,” Chloe takes a sip from her prized yellow cup. “She can’t miss her last hood night.”
Chloe and the rest of the Bellas walk past him and make their way into the sea of acapella party goers. Jesse shakes his head; as much as he’d like to see the girls’ relationship implode on itself, he knows Beca needs to tell Chloe what’s going on.
**************************************************************************
“Ya know, you and Jesse should really draw up a custody schedule for Shaw Shank,” Fat Amy quips before walking away towards Barden’s latest security recruit, Bumper.
“What are you talking about, Amy?” Chloe was still a little bothered by her conversation with Jesse and wasn’t in the mood for Fat Amy’s smart remarks.
It was no use asking though since Amy was already blazing a trail towards her not-so-secret boyfriend. Chloe needed to do something to get into the party mood. She wasn’t going to let Jesse or Beca ruin the mood for her probably last hood night – especially since her last year in acapella is basically destroyed thanks to their little mishap at the Kennedy Center. She can’t help being a little hurt at the fact that Beca is MIA and didn’t bother telling her or Jesse. Beca has been so distant and almost secretive about her life lately. She and Beca had always told each other everything. What happened to that? Whatever is going on, shouldn’t she know she can tell her anything?
“Come on, captain, let’s get this party going!” Stacie comes into Chloe’s line of sight holding two solo cups of whatever alcoholic poison was whipped up for tonight’s festivities.
Stacie thrusts one of the cups into Choe’s hand, ignoring the fact that she’s already holding a drink that she poured herself back at the Bella’s. Chloe looks suspiciously at the contents before tipping it back. There’s the slight hint of pineapple? Maybe cherry? God, who knows? But it burns all the way down her throat. A few of these and she’ll soon be forgetting and enjoying herself in no time.
“Yeah, let’s do this, Stace!” Chloe empties the contents of the cup and links her arm with Stacie. The two dance their way into the crowd of people, eager to start their night of partying.
*************************************************************************
Jesse is sitting at the bar, nursing his drink and thinking about when Beca is going to get here. He wants to see how her first day went. He wants to tell her about the new Treble recruits. He just wants to see his girlfriend. As if she somehow read his thoughts, he feels a weight on the back of his chair and turns just in time to catch Beca’s lips with his. It’s a quick kiss and Beca is flinging herself into the chair next to him before he knows it.
“Chloe asked where you were. Why didn’t you tell her?” he surprises himself with the first words that fly out of his mouth. He watches her as she looks off into the distance and her eyes bug for a second. He can tell it bothers her – she’s nervous.
“Oh she’s…she’s just like locked into the world’s right now….and I’m looking for the right time…” she gestures off in the distance. “I’ll tell her.” Jesse doesn’t believe her, not for a second. He doesn’t know why she’s so hesitant to tell her but he selfishly doesn’t want to push her. Why would he lobby for the woman that’s in love with his girlfriend?
“Okay, so how was your first day?” he asks hopefully.
“Oh, it was eye opening that’s for sure,” the smile that lights up her face tells him all he needs to know.
***************************************************************************
Chloe’s on her third drink of the night and can feel it. The music courses through her as she laughs and dances with the other Bellas. She’s wishing she hadn’t worn what she did anymore. Maybe she should have opted for the skimpy tank top she was debating over because she’s so warm. She feels Flo move in behind her and the two girls playfully bump and grind to the Britney Spears song blaring through the Treble’s outdoor sound system. In her tipsy, almost drunken haze, Chloe almost misses the short brunette she’s been looking for all night. She spins just in time to see her pecking Jesse on the lips and sitting down next to him at the bar. A strange feeling washes through her at the sight. She shakes it off and starts walking towards the pair, intent on talking to her best friend. She catches Beca’s eye and she flashes her a brilliant smile. It makes Chloe’s heart soar and she walks a little quicker over to her.
“Beca!” Chloe wraps her arms around her from behind. “Where were you?”
“I had to stay late at the station tonight,” Beca replies, almost too quickly.
“You never have to work at the radio station on Friday.” Chloe pouts, hugging Beca just a little bit tighter. Beca visibly tenses at Chloe’s words and she looks to Jesse, her eyes bugging out.
“Drew was sick. I couldn’t leave the freshmen in charge.” She shrugs as best as she can with Chloe hanging off of her.
“Okay well let’s parrrtaayyy!” Chloe whips around and grabs Beca’s arm, pulling her off the stool. Beca can’t do anything but smile as the bubbly and clearly drunk redhead pulls her towards the other bellas.
“Have fun Beca!” Jesse calls over to the duo.
“Come dance, nerd!” Beca smirks back.
“No thanks, have fun with your girls,” He replies, shaking his head. He turns back around and takes a big swig of his drink.
No problem. You sit there and let me dance with my best friend, Chloe thinks proudly, dragging Beca through the crowd. Chloe squeals as “Titanium” starts playing. Beca and Chloe both smile wildly as they start dancing with each other. This is their song and neither of them can miss the chance to dance to the song that brought them together. Chloe grips Beca by her shoulders and her heart melts a little when she sees how Beca is looking back at her. They both know what the other is thinking before they both start belting out the chorus as it starts, jumping around, lost in their own world. When the song ends Beca looks at Chloe, out of breath, her eyes sparkling. Chloe fights the urge in her gut to just lean forward and kiss the brunette. Her head swirls at the rogue thought, although it’s not completely out of the ordinary for Chloe lately. She’s been having some feelings towards her best friend. Well, she’s known they were there since she busted into her shower her freshman year. They’ve just grown by a few sizes in the last year. But she’s with Jesse and Chloe can’t.  The thought leaves a sour feeling now in the pit of her stomach. Chloe takes a steadying breath and pulls Beca into a tight hug, before letting go and starting to dance to the next song that comes on.
*********************************************************************
Jesse watches sourly from the spot he hasn’t moved from since Beca arrived at the party. His drink is still over half full but doesn’t feel the need to add alcohol to his already piss poor mood. He wasn’t the happiest all day and then watching Beca and Chloe dance just now made it entirely worse. Yeah, he could have gone and danced with her like she wanted, but he just feels so  awkward hanging around the two. There’s just something there between the two he can’t seem to match – no matter how hard he tries. He knows that Chloe loves Beca, anyone within a 5-mile radius can see that. But does Beca reciprocate those feelings? Does Beca love her back? God, he hopes not. Ge’s pretty sure that Beca loves him. But he might be delusional at this point. Sometimes he wonders if he should just end it now and save himself the trouble. He sighs and turns to look back out at the sea of people, just in time to catch Chloe pulling Beca into a bone crushing hug. Beca squeezes her back just as tight, a broad smile on her face. Jesse tips the contents of his cup into his mouth and hops off his stool, walking over to the two girls.
**************************************************************************
Beca pulls herself out of Chloe’s embrace, a warm fuzzy feeling seeps from the top of her head down to her toes. It’s usually how she feels whenever Chloe hugs her, a hug from Chloe is sunshine, happiness and warmth.
“Beca!” She hears Jesse call, walking towards the crowd.
“You decided to come get in on this action?” Beca spins towards her boyfriend, shimmying around dorkily.
Chloe giggles at her, busting a move of her own. Jesse doesn’t answer, but Beca grabs his hand anyways and pulls him into her orbit. The three all start dancing; Jesse keeps close to Beca. She turns her back to him to face Chloe and she can feel his hands grasp on to her hips. A small gasp of surprise leaves the brunette, but she smiles and goes with the flow, leaning back into him. The pair playfully grind for a little while, letting the beats of the music flow through them, dictating their movements. Beca looks to Chloe and sees that her eyes are seemingly focused on the two of them. She’s looking dead into Jesse’s eyes. Beca quirks her eyebrow and turns her head to look at her boyfriend. He has definitely locked eyes with the redhead across from them. The stare between the two seems to be laced with some sort of non-verbal communication. The uncomfortable tension between the two hangs in the air around them. Chloe breaks the stare and turns to walk further into the crowd – away from the two. Beca is confused to say the least at this point. She vaguely registers that she’s stopped dancing and so has Jesse behind her.
“Dude what just happened there?” She spins around and looks him in the eye.
“I don’t know.” Jesse shrugs.
“Bullshit.” Beca spits back as best she can over the music, “What happened between you two? Did you say something to her?” Beca asks. She had been looking at Chloe the whole time and never saw her say anything to him.
“No, I didn’t say anything. Why are you so angry?” Jesse says loudly and firmly back.
“Because I could fucking feel something in the air. There were daggers happening. Chloe doesn’t walk away angry like that very often,” Beca flails her arms around expressively.
“So she’s pissed off? What does that have to do with us?” Jesse rolls his eyes. Beca is blown back by his retort. Where is her boyfriend and who is this jackass?
“I’m done here, dude. I don’t know what you did but I’m going to find Chloe,” Beca spins around and heads through the crowd in search of Chloe.
She hears Jesse calling her, but she doesn’t particularly care at the moment. She doesn’t know what Jesse said to her or what he did, but he made Chloe upset – that much she can tell. She has no clue why two of her favorite people just can’t seem to make peace. She doubts it’s any kind of Treble vs. Bella thing. That pretty much died away at the end of her freshman year, after Aubrey handed her the reigns. So who knows? But she just wishes that they could at least pretend for her. She spots Chloe sitting down on a lawn chair at the edge of the yard, looking wistfully off in the distance. She doesn’t look angry, but she doesn’t look like her normal, happy, bubbly self either. Beca walks over and plops down in the grass in front of her.
“Hey Chlo.” She says, trying to keep her voice cheerful.
“Becs,” Chloe acknowledges her but doesn’t look directly at her. She’s playing with her hands. Beca knows that’s something she only does when she’s angry or nervous.
“What happened back there?” Beca doesn’t want to prod, but she wants to know what’s going on.
“Nothing. It’s fine.” Chloe looks down at her, biting her lower lip.
“I know it’s not nothing,” Beca says back calmly. Usually it’s Chloe breaking down all of Beca’s walls. This is  a weird shift – to be on the other side of it. Beca hears a very telling sigh from the girl above her, one that usually means she’s going to be brutally honest,
“Why are you with him?”  Chloe asks bluntly. The question floors Beca and suddenly the tables are turned again. Chloe’s coming in with her sledgehammer. She rolls it around in her head before she can properly say anything
“What?” Beca finally asks.
“Why are you with him?” She says,  clear as day back to Beca, blue eyes swimming with more emotion that she’s seen in a while. Beca is truly at a loss for words. She doesn’t really know where this is coming from
“I don’t know, Chlo.I like him? He’s good to me? It’s easy, it feels natural. Why wouldn’t I want to be with him? You seem like you have a reason for me - so what is it Chlo?” Now Beca is the one fidgeting angrily, pulling at the loose stitches on the edge of the black jeans she’s wearing.
“What if there’s something better?” Chloe doesn’t miss a beat. “You “like” him. Sounds boring. Where’s the passion Beca? Where’s the heat? Does he turn your world off its axis? Does he make you feel like you can’t breathe right when you’re around him?”
“I don’t know?” Beca stands up angrily in front of the other girl. “Yes? Ugh. Sure. Why does it matter? You should be happy for me. You’re my best friend? What is your problem with Jesse!?”
“He’s not me!” Chloe shoots to her feet. Her cheeks are as red as her hair, her hands flying as she gestures. “God, you’re so blind sometimes!” The ground feels like it drops out from underneath Beca. She takes a deep steadying breath. Did Chloe really say what Beca thinks she did?
************************************************************************
Chloe sucks in air like her lungs were completely emptied. Her head spins. Did she really just say that? Did she really just say everything she did? She definitely did not see this playing out how it did. Beca is looking at her like a baby doe that ran out in front of a semi. Any slight movement and she’ll be running. Chloe runs a hand through her hair nervously.
“Beca…I” she feels tears threatening to spill over. “I don’t know why I did that…I” But before she can say more Beca cuts in.
“How do you feel about me Chloe? I’m pretty sure I get the picture here, but I need you to say it. Just say it Chlo.”  Beca says sternly. Here’s her chance.  She basically just said it, but here it is out in the open again. Here is take two. Chloe swallows back nerves.
“I like you Beca. No scratch that, I love you Beca.” Chloe says, her heart pounding in her chest. She can hear her heartbeat in her ears and the world feels like it’s shaking as Beca asks her next question.
“How long?”
“Well, I knew I liked you when I busted into your shower three years ago…” Chloe can’t help the smirk that forms on her face and to her pleasant surprise is also on Beca’s face. “I knew I loved you around the time of the ICCAs your freshman year.” Instead of stopping there, Chloe forges forward. This is her shot and she’s not going to waste it. “I was going to tell you after we won. Then you went and kissed Jesse. I knew I should have said something sooner, but I didn’t. It’s been so hard to keep it in, keep it bottled up. It’s been hard to see you everyday with him. And then tonight when you were dancing with him, he was looking at me like he knew. Like he was marking his territory by dancing with you like that in front of me. I just couldn’t take it. Then when you came to talk to me, something just snapped. But I’m not sorry for taking my shot. I know it’s not fair to you, but I just…” Chloe can’t help the tears that are running down her face now. Beca just looks at her bewildered.
“Chloe I had no idea. Okay, maybe I had a little bit of an idea, but I just assumed it was you. You’re a flirt. you don’t have personal space. I just assumed…” She shakes her head. “I need time to think. I’m sorry I’m not impulsive like that. I need some space. I need some time.”
“Beca…” She doesn’t even know what else to say. Chloe feels as though her heart was ripped out of her chest if it wasn’t already. She’s not sure what Beca is feeling and she’s not going to know for a while
She shakes her head and sits back down in the grass, staring aimlessly across the party scene in front of them. Chloe walks away back towards the Bella’s house, her tears blinding her vision. She barely makes it to her room before a choked sob escapes her. She flings herself down onto her bed and lets herself cry.
******************************************************************************
It’s been a few days since hood night and Beca just doesn’t seem right. Jesse looks over at her sitting on his bed. They’re having their normal Tuesday movie night and Beca had begrudgingly said yes. She’s even less involved in this than normal. Her jaw is tight and she’s barely touched the giant bowl of popcorn between the two of them. She’s not even trying to pretend she’s watching the movie. He’s tried asking her what happened on Friday, but she won’t say anything.
“Are you seriously not going to tell me what happened?” Jesse pauses the movie and asks.
“I said there’s nothing to talk about.” She shakes her head.
“That’s absolute bullshit. Both you and I know that.” He touches her hand and she flinches away from him. “You are never this upset about just nothing.”
“I’ve just had a lot to think about.” He can see her face twitch, the façade she put on cracking slightly.
“Uh huh, sure.” He looks back at the paused movie screen deciding his next words. “It has something to do with Chloe, right?” Beca doesn’t say anything but her face twitches again just slightly, in a way that Jesse knows he’s hit the nail on the head.
“What happened when you went to go find her?” Jesse slams the laptop shut and shoves it to the end of the bed, scooting closer to her. Beca shakes her head, an exasperated smile on her face.
“I can’t…” she looks back over at him, her eyes are full of unshed tears.
“Just tell me.” he pleads, grabbing her hand again; this time she doesn’t squirm away from him. She sighs deeply and wipes the few rogue tears away from under her eyes,
“She…umm,” she’s toying with the ring on her finger nervously. “She told me that she loves me.” Jesse’s stomach falls to his feet, that’s what he was afraid she was going to say. Now it’s his turn for his jaw to tighten.
“Do you love her back?” He asks her carefully, unsure if he wants to know the answer.
“I don’t know…maybe.” Now the tears are flowing freely down Beca’s face in a rare moment of raw emotion not normally seen from her. He’s not sure why his next words leave him, but he’s known for a while, it isn’t him anymore.
“You want to know what I think…” he chuckles lamely.  “I think you do.”
“What!?” Beca’s reaction is quick and visceral, she gapes at him.
“I think you love her too. It’s okay if you do.” Now Jesse can feel the unshed tears in his own eyes. “I see the way you look at her. I see how she makes you feel. I’ve never made you feel the way she does.”
She’s stunned into silence for a few moments and he can see the wheels turning in her head. She turns quickly to pull him into her arms. Jesse hugs her back willingly. She kisses him hard and he can tell – this is the last time this is going to happen.
“I love Chloe.” she whispers into his shoulder after she pulls away from the kiss.
“I know,” Jesse says definitively, “it’s okay.”
“Can we still be friends?” Beca pulls out of his arms and wipes the last of the tears from her face.
“Eventually, but I need time to heal first.” Jesse sighs. He wants Beca to be happy, but he can’t rush into a friendship right away.
“I…I get that,” Beca stutters. She stands up from the bed and grabs her messenger bag from the floor
“I’m gonna?” she motions to the door.
“Go get her.” Jesse shakes his head. He watches her leave and shut the door. He knew it would happen eventually; he just didn’t think so soon. He always kind of knew that Chloe was going to win.
*************************************************************************
Chloe hasn’t left her bed all day, except to go to the bathroom. She didn’t even bother emailing her professors that she wasn’t going to be in class. Chloe was broken. Beca hasn’t spoken to her since it happened. And she knows it’s going to take her some time to talk to her for a while. Chloe needs time too. She needs time to pick up the pieces and glue them back together. It isn’t easy to be rejected, especially when you feel as deeply as Chloe does. She doesn’t love with half her heart. She loves deeply, wholly in a way that always seems to get her in trouble. She rolls onto her back and stares at the ceiling, wondering what would have been different if she had told her sooner. She knows she needs to stop. What’s done is done. There’s no use replaying it. She almost doesn’t hear the knock at her door. She would think she’s hearing things if it wasn’t for a certain someone calling her name from the other side.
“Chloe?” There is another tentative knock and shy voice at the door. Chloe scrambles up from bed and runs to open the door. A scared looking Beca with red eyes and wild hair stands on the other side. She’s definitely been crying.
“Can I come in?” She asks quietly. Chloe just nods, not able to form words currently. Beca paces around her room for a little bit until she comes to stand in front of her.
“I suck at words.” She smiles shyly. “I was just with Jesse and he said some stuff that really made me realize how I feel.”
“What, Becs?” Chloe nods, afraid to hear what she’s going to say next.
“He said that he thinks I love you too.” Beca takes a deep breath.
“Beca, I can’t take much more of this…I need to try and-” Beca cuts her off before she can say anything else.
“And I agree with him. I do.” She looks so scared, but not in a bad way. “Love you, that is.”
The words hit Chloe hard and fast. She lunges towards Beca and pulls her in, touching her lips to the other girls for the first time. At first Beca is tentative, her lips unmoving against Chloe’s. Chloe pulls away to check Beca’s reaction, but before she can Beca lunges back at her, this time kissing her back. It surprises Chloe but she is quick to reciprocate. They don’t pull away until the air between them is completely gone. Chloe rests her head against the brunette’s, breathing hard.
“I didn’t think that was ever going to happen.” Chloe chuckles.
“Say it again.” Beca says, her voice thick with emotion. Chloe looks at her confused.
“Tell me you love me. I want a do-over.” she says quietly, barely above a whisper.
“I love you so much Beca Mitchell.” Chloe’s heart swells at her words. The smile that forms on Beca’s face lights up Chloe’s whole world
 “I love you Chloe Beale.”

2020 BeChloe (Mini)Fic Month - Chapter 4
CRASH
Beca Mitchell was riding high on life. After her grandmother died, Beca was able to see and talk to her. And, the most significant high was knowing that her grandmother finally got to see her perform with her acapella group, The Barden BAs. She was also getting closer to her ex-best friend Chloe. Then someone from Chloe's past comes back into Chloe's life. And, Beca's not sure how to feel about that. Special A/N: This is my 300th Post here on Tumblr. I want to thank everyone for reading my stories. It means to the world to me.
{This picks up from Week 3's prompt "Afterlife."}
The Saturday afternoon following the State Championships, Beca, Stacie, and Fat Amy walked into their favorite diner for a quick lunch together.
"Oh, sorry," Beca said, when she jerked open the door, causing someone to stumble out.
"It's okay," a familiar voice said as she let go of the door and it closed behind her.
"Oh, hey, Aubrey," Beca said. "Sorry, I didn't see you coming out."
"No worries," Aubrey said. "I've been meaning to congratulate you on winning State. Chloe hasn't stopped talking about how great you guys were."
"Thanks," Stacie and Fat Amy said.
"It was a great night," Beca said. "Everyone stepped up and did everything exactly right."
"Chloe was just telling me," Aubrey said, throwing her thumb over her shoulder to point inside the diner. "Again."
"Chloe's here?" Beca asked, looking inside.
"Yeah, she's here," Aubrey said. "She's on the left by the window."
Beca looked where Aubrey said and furrowed her brows. Chloe was there, but so was some guy, and they were looking rather cozy.
"Who's that with her?" Beca asked.
"That's Crash," Aubrey said.
"Crash? Is that his name?" Beca scoffed.
"It's a nickname his friends gave him," Aubrey said.
"Who is he to Chloe?" Stacie asked.
"Ex-boyfriend," Aubrey said. "He and Chloe dated last summer for about two months."
Beca furrowed her brow and looked over at Chloe and Crash, leaning toward each other as they talked. Beca sighed and looked down at the floor.
"He's hot, but he doesn't look like Chloe's type," Fat Amy said.
"And what is Chloe's type?" Beca asked.
"You know, guys like Tom, or Chicago. The clean-cut sports jock type. He looks like the bad boy type. All broody and tattooed. What is it about him that attracts her?" Beca and Stacie looked at Fat Amy. "What? I'm just curious."
"He reminds her of-" Aubrey stopped, and she looked at the girls; the girls stared back at her.
"Reminds her of what?" Stacie asked.
"Not what, who," Aubrey said.
"Okay, he reminds her of who?" Stacie corrected.
"Um, let's just say he reminds her of someone she had a huge crush on and leave it at that," Aubrey said. Beca looked at Aubrey with a raised eyebrow. Aubrey shook her head. "She told me as her best friend, and I've already caused a lot of trouble spilling a secret I shouldn't have. I've learned my lesson and will leave it for Chloe to tell you if she wants to."
Aubrey faced Beca and looked her in the eye. "Speaking of spilling secrets. Beca, I haven't really apologized for outing you. And I want you to know that I am sorry I did, and I'm also sorry for all the pain it caused you. I know you said you forgave me, but I hope you can forgive Chloe, too."
"I already have," Beca said. "We're working on renewing our friendship, and we're okay. At least I think we are." Beca couldn't help but glance over at Chloe and Crash again.
"I'm glad," Aubrey said. "I know she missed you like crazy and hated that we were so mean to you."
"Yeah, well," Beca said. "I didn't make it easy for her or you to be nice to me."
"Can we start over, too?" Aubrey asked. "Chloe's my best friend, and we'll probably be seeing each other a lot. I'd like to hang out with you and Chloe sometime if you'll let me."
"I'm good with that," Beca said. Aubrey started to walk away, and Beca stopped her. "Um, do you want to join us? I don't think anyone would mind."
"Yeah, Aubrey," Stacie said. "Join us. It'll be fun."
"I appreciate the invitation, but I have to get home," Aubrey said. "Congratulations again on the win."
"Thanks," the three girls said and entered the diner.
Beca stopped just inside the door and stared over at Chloe sitting with her ex-boyfriend. Chloe looked up and waved them over when she saw them. The guy turned and looked at them over his shoulder. He turned back and said something to Chloe and started to get up; Chloe grabbed his hand and shook her head. Crash sat back down.
Beca followed Stacie and Fat Amy over to the table.
"Hey, guys," Chloe said. "Join me, I mean, us. This is my friend, Crash. Crash this is Stacie Conrad, Fat Amy, and Beca Mitchell. They're members of the Barden BAs I was just telling you about."
"It's nice to meet you, girls," Crash said. "Congratulations on winning the championship."
"Thanks," Stacie said. "It's nice meeting you, too."
"Where have you been hiding this sexy piece of man candy, Chloe?" Fat Amy asked, causing Beca to scoff.
Chloe looked at her, and Beca blushed. "He lives in Atlanta," Chloe said, watching Beca.
"Yeah," Crash said, looking at Chlo. "I consider Chloe the one that got away. She's something special."
Chloe blushed and looked down at the table. Beca took the opportunity to really look at Crash. He was cute, she guessed, and she knows she just met him, and she also knows she doesn't like him.
"So, what broke you two up?" Beca asked Crash. "Did you cheat on her?"
"Beca," Chloe admonished.
"It's okay, Chlo," Crash said quickly, covering Chloe's hand with his own. He turned to Beca. "No, I didn't cheat on her. I would never do that. Chloe broke up with me because she liked someone else. And as much as it pained me, I couldn't force her to be with me if she felt something for someone else. It's not my style."
"Hmmph," Beca said, causing Chloe to bite her lip to keep from laughing.
Chloe looked up to see Beca staring at her. Chloe smiled, and Beca looked away.
Chloe sat back and got lost in her thoughts, "Beca acts like she doesn't like Crash. But why wouldn't she like him? Is it because she's jealous that Crash and I dated? And, if she is jealous, does that mean she likes me?" Chloe smiled.
"Chloe," Stacie said, causing Chloe to look at her. "The waitress is waiting for you to order."
"Oh, sorry," Chloe said, shaking her head. "I was, uh, just thinking about what I wanted."
Chloe gave her order, and the waitress left the table.
~~ Crash ~~
"Where did you two meet?" Stacie asked. "I haven't seen you around Barden."
"Like Chloe said, I live in Atlanta," Crash said. "We met at a party there."
"Why are you in Barden now?" Fat Amy asked.
Beca tuned the conversation out and sat with her shoulders slumped, elbows on the table, frowning at her hands clasped together in front of her face. Chloe was smiling as she listened to Stacie and Fat Amy talk with Crash. She looked over to Beca, and her smile fell. Chloe reached across the table and took one of Beca's hands, pulling it away from her face.
"Hey, are you okay?" Chloe asked, her voice quiet so as not to bring attention to Beca being so quiet.
Beca pulled her hand away and sat up straight. She nodded, giving Chloe a half-smile. "I'm fine."
Chloe was a little hurt that Beca pulled her hand away, but let it go because she didn't want to cause a fuss and bring attention to Beca.
The group finished eating, and Beca, Chloe, Stacie, and Fat Amy stood to leave. Chloe had only gotten a few feet away when Crash called her name.
"Beca, can you wait for me?" Chloe asked. At Beca's nod, Chloe went back to where Crash stood to wait for her.
Beca looked back over her shoulder, her brows furrowed as she watched Chloe and Crash. She swallowed and faced forward when Chloe hugged Crash and kissed him on the cheek.
Beca watched the ground as she walked. Wondering why seeing Chloe with Crash bothered her so much. She nearly tripped over her own feet when Chloe was suddenly by her side, wrapping a hand around her arm.
"Careful there, Beca," Chloe said, tightening her grip to keep Beca from falling.
"So, uh, what did Crash want?" Beca asked.
"He asked me out," Chloe said. Beca stopped and looked back to find Crash watching them.
"What, um, what did you say?" Beca asked, turning her gaze back to Chloe.
"I told him no," Chloe said, pulling Beca to start walking again.
"Really?" Beca asked, surprised. "Why?"
"For the same reason, we broke up," Chloe said. "I still have feelings for someone else." Chloe smiled and stopped walking. "So, I was wondering if you could give me a ride home? My mom dropped me off, and Crash offered, but I think the ride home would be uncomfortable since I turned him down."
"Um, that makes sense," Beca said. "Sure, I can give you a ride."
"Thanks, Beca," Chloe said, kissing her cheek.
Beca blushed but couldn't help the dopey smile that was on her face.
~~ Crash ~~
At school the following Monday, the Barden BAs were enjoying lunch together when Aubrey came over to the table.
"Hey, Brey," Chloe said in greeting. "Care to join us?"
"Sure," Aubrey said, as Stacie moved over to give her space.
"Hey, Aubrey, we were talking about catching a movie on Friday night," Beca said. "If you're not busy, you're welcome to join us."
CR, Jessica, and Ashley all looked at Beca with raised eyebrows.
"Did you two bury the hatchet?" Jessica asked. "You know, since the incident?" Jessica used her fingers to make air quotes when she said the incident.
"Yeah," Beca said shrugging. "I'm over the incident, and we're going to be seeing each other a lot more since Chloe and I are friends again."
"In that case, Aubrey, you should come with us," Ashley said.
"I'm all for it," Chloe said, smiling.
"I'd love to go," Aubrey said. "Thanks, Beca."
Beca shrugged and bit into her sandwich.
"What are you going to see?" Aubrey asked.
"We haven't decided yet," Stacie said.
"I want to see a romantic comedy," Chloe said.
Beca sniggered and said, "Big surprise there, Beale."
Chloe slapped Beca's arm, saying, "Watch it, Mitchell. Or I'll find a horror movie for us to see."
The smile fell from Beca's face. "You wouldn't dare. You know I hate them."
"Try me," Chloe retorted.
"Don't like the scary stuff, Beca?" Ashley asked.
"No, I just don't like scary movies that are not scary," Beca said. "It's usually just a bunch of jump scares and stupid girls with big boobs bouncing around on the screen. I'd rather sit through a boring, predictable rom-com."
"With you being gay and all, I thought you'd like to watch the big boobs bouncing around on the screen," Fat Amy said, causing the other girls to laugh.
"I'm not saying that doesn't have its merits," Beca said with a grin. "But I know that as soon as those boobs go bouncing across the screen, she's dead."
"So, then what shall we go see?" Chloe asked.
"I don't see anything good worth seeing," Stacie said, looking at her phone. "Maybe we should get together at Beca's and watch movies on Netflix or something."
"Why my house?" Beca asked.
"You're the only one with a big-screen TV," Stacie said. "We could make it a sleepover."
"She's right, Beca," Chloe said. "Your house is the best choice. Plus, we used to have sleepovers all the time. It'll be like old times."
Beca sighed and looked around at all the expectant faces. "Fine. I'll ask my dad tonight."
"Yes!" Fat Amy yelled, gaining half the cafeteria's attention.
"It will just be for us, the Barden BAs," Beca said quickly. "And Aubrey. No one else, Amy."
"Why do you get to invite Aubrey, and we can't invite someone?" Fat Amy whined.
"Because one, it's my house," Beca said. "And two, we already invited her to the movies. It wouldn't be very nice to exclude her just because we changed where we're watching a movie."
"Thank you, Beca," Chloe said, smiling.
"Yes, thank you, Beca," Aubrey said.
~~ Crash ~~
After lunch, Beca and Stacie were walking to their next class together.
"You sure have changed your tune with Chloe and Aubrey," Stacie told Beca. "The way you guys sniped at each other all the time, I thought you'd be mad at them forever.'
"I got tired," Beca said. "Being mean to them was exhausting. Plus, I, um." Beca stopped and looked around before continuing. "I like Chloe."
"You mean as in like like?" Stacie asked.
"Yeah," Beca said. "But, you can't say anything to anyone, okay?"
"I won't," Stacie said. Stacie thought for a minute and then asked, "Did you like Chloe when you were in eighth grade, and she told Aubrey your secret?"
"Yeah," Beca said and looked to the ground. "She's the one who made me realize I liked girls."
"So, you've liked her all this time?" Stacie asked.
"Yes," Beca said. "I didn't realize how much until I saw her with that Crash guy."
"You were jealous," Stacie stated.
"Yes," Beca replied. "I didn't know why at first, but then it hit me that I still had feelings for her."
"Are you going to tell her?" Stacie asked.
"I don't know," Beca said. "I mean, we just became friends again, and I don't want to mess that up."
"You have to tell her," Stacie said. "I think you'll be surprised by her response."
"What? You think Chloe likes me?" Beca asked, shaking her head. "I don't think so."
"I think so," Stacie said. "I see the way she looks at you when you're not looking. It's a lot like how you look at her when you think she's not looking."
Beca stood there, staring at Stacie, but didn't say anything.
"I have to get to class," Stacie said as the bell rang. "Tell Chloe before she decides Crash is worth her time again."
Later that night, Beca received the okay to have the sleepover. She texted all the girls to let them know.
"Make me a list of snacks, and I'll pick them up when I go to the store on Thursday," Sheila told Beca.
"Okay," Beca said. "I'll ask the girls what they want. We'll also probably order pizza for delivery."
"I'll pay for it," Warren said. "My contribution for you girls winning the State Acapella Championship."
"Thanks, Dad," Beca said. "I'll let the girls know."
~~ Crash ~~
At lunch the next day, the conversation was on the sleepover. Emily joined the girls.
"I'm really excited about the sleepover," Emily said. "When did you decide to do that?"
"Yesterday at lunch," Beca said and looked around the table. "I need to give Sheila a list of snacks, so let me know what you want by the end of school on Wednesday. And my dad said he'd treat us to pizza."
"Wow!" Aubrey said. "That's very nice of him."
"We should each bring something," Stacie said. "I mean, your dad is letting us have it at your house, he shouldn't have to pay for all our food and snacks."
"He doesn't mind," Beca said. "He offered."
"How about we bring the snacks we like," Emily suggested. "Then all we'll need is pizza and drinks."
"That's a good idea," Chloe said. "What do you think, Beca?"
"That does sound like a good idea," Beca said. "Thanks, Emily."
"No problem," Emily said. "So, what time should we be at your house on Friday, and do we need to bring sleeping bags or something?"
"Everyone should be there around six," Beca said. "And bringing a sleeping bag isn't a bad idea. And pillows. We have some but probably not enough for everyone."
~~ Crash ~~
Chloe and Aubrey left the cafeteria together to walk to their next class.
"Beca's stepping up with this being friends again," Aubrey commented.
"Yeah," Chloe said. "It's nice to be a part of her world again."
"So, are you going to tell her you like her?"Aubrey asked.
"We're back to a good place," Chloe said, chewing her lip. "I don't want to do anything that will mess that up."
"She likes you," Aubrey said. "I don't think you'll mess anything up."
"I know she says she forgives me for breaking her confidence," Chloe said. "But I don't feel like she trusts me yet."
"Chloe, she left you in charge of her precious Barden BAs when she was in New York," Aubrey said. "She trusts you."
"But, what if I tell her and she doesn't feel the same way?" Chloe said. "I wish I could have been as brave as she was back in eighth grade. Then this wouldn't even be an issue."
"Chloe, I've seen the way she looks at you and acts around you," Aubrey said. "She likes you. You need to tell her before someone else comes along and snatches her up."
"Maybe I'll tell her at the sleepover," Chloe said.
"I think that would be a great idea," Aubrey said.
~~ Crash ~~
Friday was finally here, and the girls were settled in the basement, discussing what movie to watch. Chloe was sitting next to Beca, and Beca could sense some nervousness coming from her.
"Are you okay?" Beca asked, leaning her head toward Chloe, so only Chloe could hear her.
"Yeah, I'm, uh, I'm fine," Chloe said.
"Okay," Beca said and got quiet for a moment. "I was wondering if we could talk later. Just the two of us."
Chloe's head shot up, and she looked at Beca. "Um, sure," Chloe said. "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah," Beca said quickly. "Everything's fine."
"Okay," Chloe said and settled back to watch the movie.
Chloe became fidgety and finally whispered to Beca, "Can we talk now? I'm kind of scared of what you want to talk about."
A brief smile came to Beca's lips. "I'm kind of scared, too."
"What?" Chloe asked.
"I'm kind of scared to talk to you," Beca said. "Things could really change between us."
"That's it," Chloe said, grabbing Beca's hand and pulling her up. "We're talking now."
"Shhh," a few voices called out.
Chloe ignored everyone and pulled Beca upstairs and out the back door. Beca stopped and changed direction. She pulled Chloe over to the porch swing and sat; Chloe sat as well.
"Before I say anything else," Beca said, turning her head to look at Chloe. "I have a question."
"Okay," Chloe said. "Ask me."
"This person you have feelings for," Beca said. "Are they serious feelings?"
Chloe swallowed and said, "Yes, they are."
"That's what I was afraid of," Beca said and stood to walk away.
Chloe grabbed Beca's arm.
"That's it?" Chloe asked. "That's what you wanted to talk about?"
"Your answer made anything else I had to say pointless," Beca said.
"Why?" Chloe asked. "What else did you have to say?"
Beca let out a sigh and looked at Chloe. "If you had said that your feelings were just a crush and nothing serious, I was going to ask you if you might-" Beca lowered her head and her voice as she continued, "...want to go out with me."
"What was that?" Chloe asked, not sure she heard Beca right.
Beca let out a frustrated sigh. "I like you, and I was going to ask if you wanted to go out with me."
Chloe's eyes widened. "Yes."
"What?" Beca asked.
"Yes, I want to go out with you," Chloe said, smiling and taking Beca's hands in hers. "You're the one I have feelings for, Beca. I have for a while."
"Why didn't you ever say anything?" Beca asked.
"I realized that I liked you about the time you started hating me," Chloe said with tears in her eyes. "I don't blame you for that. I hated me, too."
"Come here," Beca said, pulling Chloe into a hug. Chloe wrapped her arms around Beca and laid her head on Beca's shoulder.
Beca and Chloe stood holding each other for a few minutes when they were startled by someone clearing their throat.
"Sorry," Aubrey said. "The girls wanted snacks."
Beca looked through the kitchen window to see the girls staring back at her with smiles on their faces. Stacie gave Beca a thumbs up. Beca laughed and looked at Chloe.
"We'll talk about that date later, okay?"
Chloe smiled and nodded. "Definitely."
Beca took Chloe's hand and led her back inside.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry for leaving it here, but I don't know what the next prompt is going to be, so I had to leave it the end open to be able to continue the story. At least there is some light at the end of the tunnel for my favorite couple.

2020 BeChloe (Mini)Fic Month - Chapter 2
QUARANTINE
Beca invites Chloe to fly to New York for her grandmother's eightieth birthday. Just before leaving to return home, they find out that two of Beca's younger cousins have measles, and everyone at the party was exposed.
{This picks up from Week 1's prompt "Enemies."}
It's been two weeks since Chloe joined the Barden BAs, and she was perplexed by the text Beca sent out to the team. Chloe hurried to the Auditorium to catch Beca before rehearsal started.
"Beca, why is Friday's rehearsal canceled?" Chloe asked as soon as she saw Beca.
"I won't be in school," Beca said. "Plus, we've got the songs and the routine down. It will be good for everyone to get a break."
"The State Championship is in four weeks," Chloe said. "Aubrey always said we needed to practice up to the actual day so we could avoid any surprises."
"Not to be mean, but Aubrey is not the Captain, I am," Beca said. "We're more than ready, Chloe. We've worked our butts off, and we are going to bring home the State Championship again. I give you my word on that."
"I don't know, Beca," Chloe said. "Maybe I can lead rehearsal in your absence."
"No," Beca said emphatically. "I gave everyone the day off because they've earned it. I swear to God if I come back and find out you had a rehearsal, you are off the team. Got it?"
"Lighten up, Beca," Chloe said softly. "I get it. No rehearsal while you're gone."
Beca sighed and looked at Chloe. "I'm sorry, Chloe. It's just; I know what I'm doing. We've won the State Acapella Championship, and this team is ready to win it again. We have an excellent setlist and some kickass choreography thanks to you, Stacie, and CR. And we know it backward and forward. Take a breather. Enjoy a free afternoon and weekend."
"You're right," Chloe said. She bit her lip and looked at Beca. "Can I ask why you won't be at school on Friday?"
Beca thought about it for a moment before answering. "I'm going to my grandmother's birthday party in New York."
"It's Sophie's birthday?" Chloe squealed. "I always loved your Grandma Mitchell."
"Yeah," Beca said sadly. "She always loved you, too. She, uh, asks about you all the time."
"Really?" Chloe asked excitedly. Chloe's face fell almost immediately, and she looked sad when she asked, "What do you tell her? About why I'm not around."
"The first time I went up there, I told her you were busy," Beca said. "I know she didn't believe me, but she didn't question me either. The second time you weren't with me, I made up some lame excuse that I don't remember. After that, she stopped asking. But, she still asks me how you are almost every time I talk to her."
"Oh," Chloe said. She then got a sad look on her face. "I miss her. She always treated me like I was family."
Beca mumbled, "You were family," and was saved from saying anything more as the girls entered the Auditorium. Everyone was excited about having time off from rehearsal on Friday. They ran the routine a couple of times, and Beca was quite pleased.
Beca had noticed that Chloe had looked at her a few times with a sad smile. Beca thought that Chloe was remembering the times when they were still friends, and she went to New York with Beca to visit her grandmother during the summer.
Beca remembered those times fondly, and an idea popped into her head. She then had a war with herself on whether she should actually verbalize the idea or just forget about it.
"That was great, everyone," Chloe called out, bringing Beca back to the present. "Did you have anything else for us today, Beca?"
"Nope, we're good," Beca said, smiling. "Great job. Get out of here, you nerds."
The girls started saying their goodbyes and left. Chloe was on her way out when Beca called her back.
"What's up, Beca?" Chloe asked. "Did you change your mind about me leading rehearsal while you're gone?"
"Wha? No," Beca said and let out a sigh. She ran her hand through her hair. "Um, okay, so, here's the thing. I was thinking and, um, wondered if you could get permission to be out of classes on Friday?"
"Probably," Chloe said. "Why?"
"I was wondering if you might want to go to New York with me?" Beca said, looking down at her feet. "I mean, us. My dad and Sheila will be going, too. We'll be back on Sunday."
"Seriously?" Chloe asked, her heart beating faster. "You're not pranking me, are you?"
"No, I wouldn't do that," Beca said, looking up at Chloe with a frown. "If you don't want to go, just say so."
"No, no, I do," Chloe said. "I'd love to go, but I'm just a little confused by the offer. I, uh, I thought you weren't ready to be friends again."
"I'm not," Beca said. "Or maybe I am. I don't know. But, hearing you talk about my grandma made me realize how much she asks about you, so I thought it might be a nice surprise for her if you came, too. We always had fun when we visited"
"There's the softie Beca I remember," Chloe said, smiling. "I meant it when I said I'd love to go. I just have to check with my mom and let you know. I'll call or text you tonight after I talk to her."
"Okay," Beca said. "I'll talk to you later."
"Bye," Chloe said and started to walk away. She stopped and called back, "Beca?"
"Yeah?" Beca answered back, looking toward Chloe.
"Thanks for the invitation," Chloe said sincerely. "It means a lot to me."
Chloe looked as if she was going to say more, but instead, turned and left the Auditorium.
Beca watched Chloe leave. She started second-guessing herself and wasn't sure if the invitation was a good idea or a bad idea.
"I guess I'll find out," Beca mumbled before leaving as well.
~~ Quarantine ~~
Later that night, Beca received a text from Chloe saying her parents said she could go to New York. Beca smiled at that and realized she was excited that Chloe was going. It would be like old times. Old times back when they were still friends. This thought made her sad. But then she thought that maybe this was the beginning of a new friendship with Chloe. Something she realized she was not as opposed to as before. And the idea of being friends with Chloe again did not make her sad.
Beca's dad picked Chloe up on Friday morning on the way to the airport. Beca sat back with a smile as Chloe, her dad, and Sheila talked as if no time had passed since Chloe had been around.
Once in New York, Beca had Chloe stand off to the side out of sight when they arrived at Grandma Mitchell's. Beca's grandmother opened the door and squealed when she saw Beca. She pulled Beca into a hug.
"I've missed you, you little shit," Sophie Mitchell whispered in Beca's ear.
"I've missed you, too, you big shit," Beca whispered back, causing her grandmother to cackle in her ear.
"Don't worry about us, mom," Warren said with a smile.
"Oh, hush, you," Sophie said. "Get in here."
Sophie stepped aside and hugged Warren and Sheila as they came in. She looked back at Beca, who was still standing outside the door.
"What are you waiting for? An engraved invitation?"
"No, I have a surprise for you," Beca said, smiling as she glanced over at Chloe.
Sophie furrowed her brow and stepped outside to see what Beca was looking at. She squealed when she spotted Chloe.
"Chloe!"
"Surprise!" Chloe said.
"Come here," Sophie said as she pulled Chloe into a hug. "I'm so glad to see you."
"I'm glad to be here," Chloe said, a bit teary-eyed.
Sophie pulled back and looked at Chloe. "You've become even more beautiful since the last time I saw you."
Chloe blushed and said, "Thank you."
"Let's get inside," Sophie said, pulling Chloe behind her.
Beca watched as Chloe followed her grandmother into the house.
"Just like old times," Beca mumbled before following them inside.
Beca loved when the Mitchell family came together; especially to celebrate her grandmother. That night, most of the family showed up, even though the main party wasn't until the next day.
Beca moved around the house, talking to cousins, and aunts, and uncles, all the while keeping an eye on Chloe. She didn't know why. Even though it's been close to four years since Chloe had visited with Beca, Chloe managed to charm everyone she spoke with.
Beca finally relaxed and was enjoying playing with her cousin Amanda's baby daughter. The baby started crying, and Beca immediately handed her back to Amanda. Amanda laughed, and Beca went off to find Chloe.
Beca looked everywhere but couldn't find Chloe. She saw her father and asked him if he had seen Chloe.
"Yeah, she went off with your grandmother about twenty minutes ago," Warren told her.
"Why?" Beca asked.
"I don't know," Warren said.
Beca furrowed her brow and wondered what that was all about. She let out a sigh and grabbed a soda, taking it to sit out on the back porch swing.
Beca had been out there for about ten minutes when she heard someone come out. She looked up to see her grandmother making her way over to sit next to Beca.
"So, I just had a nice chat with Chloe," Sophie said as she sat.
"Yeah?" Beca said, swallowing and looking away.
"Why didn't you tell me the truth about why you two weren't friends anymore?"
"I didn't see the point. You like her, and the fact that I wasn't friends with her was because of me and my hurt feelings. There wasn't any reason for you to hate her, too."
"Did you tell your father what really happened between you two?"
"No, and it was for the same reasons I didn't tell you. I told him that we had different interests, and we just drifted apart. It was an easy sell since we were starting High School." Beca sighed and looked down at her hands. "I think I couldn't tell anyone the truth because I was hoping that we would work things out and still be friends. But, she stayed by Aubrey's side after everything, and then too much time had passed, and there was no reason to say anything. We hated each other."
"She told me she never hated you. But, the fact that you hated her killed her every time you two traded barbs."
"I had a crush on her, grandma," Beca said quietly. "I think that's why it hurt me so bad. She was my best friend and broke my confidence. But, she was also the one who I thought was the love of my life at that time, and it killed me that she never tried to stop Aubrey from saying the things she did about me." Beca choked up a bit. "And she didn't stand up for me when the bullying started."
"Oh, sweetie," Sophie said, pulling Beca into a hug. "I'm sorry all that happened."
Beca leaned into her grandmother and let the tears fall. Tears she had been trying to keep inside for nearly four years. Tears she swore to never shed over Chloe Beale.
~~ Quarantine ~~
Beca was quieter than usual the rest of the night, and Chloe knew something was wrong but wasn't sure it was her place to ask Beca if she was okay, and it was killing her.
They both went to bed, but sleep didn't come easily for either one. They silently laid with their backs to each other until sleep finally overtook them.
Saturday morning, Beca's grandmother got the girls up and asked them to come downstairs right away.
"What's going on?" Beca asked, half awake.
"Your Uncle Matt is here and said he needs to talk to everyone," Sophie said.
Beca and Chloe followed Sophie, joining Warren and Sheila, where they stood in front of Matt Mitchell.
"Okay, um, it seems Tony and Liza have the measles," Matt said.
"What?" several voices asked.
"Yeah," Matt said. "Anyone who was here last night has been exposed. If you've had the measles before, you should be okay. I just have to inform everyone."
"Um, I've never had measles," Chloe said, getting everyone's attention.
"Really?" Beca asked. "Did you get vaccinated?"
"I, I don't know," Chloe said. "I'll have to check with my mom."
"If you didn't, we could get you vaccinated at their pediatrician's office," Matt said. "It needs to be done within 72 hours of exposure, though. So, you have until Monday; otherwise you'll have to be quarantined for 21 days to make sure you don't have them."
"Twenty-one days?" Chloe said nervously.
"Do you want me to call your mom for you?" Warren asked.
"No, thanks," Chloe said. "I'll do it. I left my phone upstairs."
Chloe turned and went upstairs. Beca watched her go.
"I'll go with her," Beca said before Chloe made it to the top of the stairs.
Beca caught up to Chloe just as she picked up her phone. Chloe looked over at her.
"I thought you could use some moral support," Beca said.
"Thanks," Chloe said and placed the call.
A few minutes later, Beca went downstairs.
"Chloe hasn't had the measles vaccine," Beca said. "She stayed upstairs because she's freaking out a little bit.
"I'll get her an appointment for Monday to get the vaccine," Matt said. "I'm sorry about this. We didn't know they had the measles until late last night."
"It's not your fault," Sophie said. "We'll take care of Chloe until she can get the vaccine. We need to make some calls and cancel the party."
"Why?" Matt asked.
"If Chloe has been exposed and hasn't had the measles or the vaccine," Grandma said. "She could be infectious. We've all had the measles or received the vaccine, so we'll be okay. It's best if we quarantine until she gets the vaccine."
"Sheila and I need to fly back to Barden tomorrow," Warren said. "We have to be at work on Monday."
"I'll stay here with Chloe until she gets the vaccine," Beca said. "We'll stay in my room until then."
"That's a good idea," Sophie said.
"Can we still have the party?" Warren asked. "I hate to ask, but if Chloe quarantines herself upstairs in Beca's room, everyone else should be okay, right?"
Matt was on the phone and raised a finger, indicating they should wait. He ended the call.
"Chloe can get her vaccine at Dr. Robbins' office on Monday, at eleven," Matt said. "She said if we wanted to have the party, we would have to clean everything down here thoroughly. And we'll have to make upstairs off-limits. If we do that, and Chloe remains in Beca's room, it should be okay to have a small gathering."
"I'll stay upstairs with Chloe if you want to have your party," Beca said, looking at her grandmother.
"Let's start making some calls," Sophie said. "Let folks know about the measles and that we're canceling the party. We'll just have immediate family. That would be us, Matt and Carrie, and your Uncles Joe and Sam, and their wives. I'll suggest they get a babysitter for the kids just to be safe."
"That sounds like a plan," Warren said.
"I'm going to go tell Chloe what's going on," Beca said, making her way towards the stairs.
~~ Quarantine ~~
Beca stood outside the bedroom door and hesitated before knocking lightly.
"Yeah?" Chloe's voice called from inside.
"Hey," Beca said, entering the room.
Beca proceeded to tell Chloe everything that had been discussed about the party and Chloe remaining upstairs during the party.
"I hate to miss the party," Chloe said. "But I'd rather be safe than sorry."
"I'll stay up here with you," Beca said. "And I promise to go down and get us some cake."
"You don't have to stay with me, Beca," Chloe said.
"I want to," Beca said. "I feel like it's my fault. If I hadn't asked you to come, you wouldn't be in this predicament."
"It's not your fault," Chloe said. "If I had been vaccinated, I wouldn't be in this predicament either. It's nobody's fault."
"Why weren't you vaccinated?" Beca asked. "Are your parents anti-vaccination?"
"No," Chloe said. "My mother thought I'd had all my shots, but when she looked at my shots record, the one for measles was blank. I'm surprised I haven't caught it before now."
Beca sat without saying anything. After a moment or two, she broke the silence.
"Are you hungry?" Beca asked. "I could get us some lunch."
"That would be nice," Chloe said.
"Okay, I'll be back shortly," Beca said.
~~ Quarantine ~~
Beca and Chloe spent the party in Beca's room. They watched movies, played games, and Beca went and got them cake when they heard everyone singing Happy Birthday.
Sophie came to check on Chloe once the guests were gone. She knocked lightly and opened the door. She smiled when she saw Beca and Chloe cuddled up together on Beca's bed, sleeping soundly.
Sophie quietly closed the door and made her way to her room.
The next morning, Beca came down to say goodbye to her dad and Sheila.
"Chloe said to tell you guys thanks for letting her come with us," Beca said as she hugged her dad.
"She could have come down," Sheila said. "We're all immune."
"I know," Beca said. "I think Chloe is nervous about having the measles. She's also scared that if she does, she might infect someone."
"I couldn't get you two a reservation home until Wednesday," Warren told Beca. "I've already contacted Chloe's folks to let them know."
"Thanks, Dad," Beca said. "Can you call the school and let them know we'll be out until Thursday?"
"Charlotte and I already discussed that," Warren said. "We'll take care of it."
"Okay," Beca said.
"Oh, I almost forgot," Warren said. "Charlotte said she'd pick you up at the airport on Wednesday."
A horn could be heard honking from outside.
"That's our cab," Sheila said. "We should go."
"Right," Warren said, grabbing their suitcases.
"Have a safe trip," Beca said. "Let us know when you make it home."
"Will do," Warren said. "Happy birthday, again, Mom. Talk to you soon."
"Thank you," Sophie said.
Warren and Sheila finally left, and Beca and her grandmother both sighed.
"I'm going to fix breakfast," Sophie said. "Tell Chloe to come down to eat. It's just us now, so she'll be okay."
"I will," Beca said. "Thanks, Grandma."
Beca ran upstairs to find Chloe lying on the bed, holding her phone on her stomach. She looked over when Beca came into the room.
"Hey," Beca said. "Grandma's making breakfast and said for you to come down to eat."
"I don't know-"
"Stop," Beca said, holding up her hand. "It's just the three of us now, so you don't have to worry about infecting anyone."
"Oh, okay," Chloe said. "I'll be down in a few minutes. My mom texted, and I want to call her."
"Okay," Beca said. "Don't take too long."
"I won't," Chloe said.
Beca left Chloe alone, and Chloe picked up her phone. She found the contact she was looking for and pressed send.
"Hello?" a voice said on the other end of the phone.
"Hey, mom," Chloe said.
Beca entered the kitchen and asked if she could help.
"I've got everything under control," Sophie said. "You can get the bread and make some toast if you want."
"Sure," Beca said and got the bread. "I'll wait a bit until you're almost done before I make the toast."
Beca and her grandmother worked together to put together a breakfast of eggs, bacon, fried potatoes, and toast. When it was almost done, Bece went upstairs to get Chloe.
Beca was just about to open the bedroom door when she heard Chloe speaking loudly.
"I can't do that, Brey," Chloe could be heard saying. "She'll hate me for sure if I tell her that!"
Beca doesn't know what Aubrey was saying, but heard Chloe's voice respond, only in a much softer tone.
Beca moved away from the door, backing up to the stairs. She wondered if Chloe was talking about her. And, if so, what couldn't she tell Beca that would make her hate Chloe?
"Beca?" Grandmother Mitchell's called from downstairs.
"Be right down," Beca said and hurried back over to the bedroom door.
Beca gave a quick knock before opening it and poking her head inside. "Chloe?"
Chloe guiltily turned her head toward Beca.
"I'll call you back...mom," Chloe said hurriedly and ended the call. "What's up, Beca?"
"Um, breakfast is ready," Beca said.
"Thanks," Chloe said and walked over to the door.
Beca allowed Chloe to exit first and followed, wondering why Chloe didn't want her to know she was talking to Aubrey.
~~ Quarantine ~~
After breakfast, Beca and Chloe stayed downstairs with Sophie. Beca was glad that Chloe and her grandmother were too busy talking to notice she had pretty much checked out.
"Beca?" Sophie said, getting Beca's attention.
"I'm sorry," Beca said, shaking her head. "What?"
"Chloe has called your name like five times," Sophie said. "Are you okay?"
"Um, yeah," Beca said, not looking at Chloe. "I'm fine. Sorry."
"That's okay," Chloe said. "I was asking if you were hungry. Grandma M was thinking of making sandwiches."
"Oh, um, no thanks," Beca said. "I'm still full from breakfast."
"Okay," Sophie said. "I'll be back in a bit."
Beca and Chloe both watched as Sophie left them alone in the living room. Chloe turned to look at Beca.
"Did you want to watch TV or something?" Chloe asked.
Beca just looked at Chloe. Beca had to ask Chloe about what she overheard earlier. It was probably a mistake, but she couldn't keep the words from falling out of her mouth.
"Why did you pretend you were talking to your mom when I came to get you for breakfast earlier?"
"What?"
"I heard you talking to Aubrey before I knocked," Beca said. "But as soon as I opened the door, you said I'll have to call you back, mom, before ending the call."
"Beca, I-" Chloe said, stopping to clear her throat. "You must have misheard."
"No, I didn't," Beca said. "I heard you say I can't do that, Brey. She'll hate me for sure if I tell her that! Who were you talking about? Was it me? What can't you tell me?"
"That conversation was private," Chloe said. "And whatever was said is between Brey and me."
Beca's jaw clenched as her brain took in what Chloe said.
"Got it," Beca said, biting her lip and nodding her head. "It's a secret between you and your best friend. And we can't have you spilling a secret that's between you and your best friend now, can we?"
"Beca," Chloe said. "It's not-"
Beca stood and started walking away. "I'm going to see if Grandma needs any help."
Chloe let out a frustrated "Dammit!" as tears came to her eyes.
~~ Quarantine ~~
Later that night, Beca left Chloe in her room and went to sleep in the guest room. Chloe laid alone in bed, wiping tears as they fell down her face, pooling on the pillow beneath her head.
Beca wasn't faring any better in the guest room. She spent the entire night, tossing and turning, before finally falling asleep from sheer exhaustion.
Beca felt as if she had just fallen asleep when her grandmother came into the room.
"Imagine my surprise when I went to get you girls up and only found Chloe in your room," Sophie said, sitting on the side of the bed looking at Beca. "Want to talk about it?"
"No," Beca said, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. "I just want to go home. And I would, except I promised that I would stay with Chloe while she was quarantined, or whatever."
"What happened?" Sophie asked.
"I couldn't keep my big mouth shut," Beca said. "And now we're back to square one."
"It can't be that bad, Beca," Sophie said. "Talk to her. And listen when she talks. Communication is the key to any relationship, whether it's friends or something more."
"Talking is what got me to where I am now," Beca said.
Sophie knew how stubborn Beca could be, so she didn't say anything more about it.
"Well, you and Chloe need to get ready," Sophie said. "Chloe has her appointment at eleven, so we need to leave about ten-fifteen."
Beca glanced at the clock and saw that it was already after nine.
"I need to shower first," Beca said. "I'll be down in about half an hour."
"Okay," Sophie said, patting Beca's leg as she stood.
~~ Quarantine ~~
Sophie sighed as they waited for Dr. Robbins to come into the examination room. Since there was a chance Chloe had measles, precautions were taken, and she was immediately placed in the exam room.
Sophie was sitting in the only chair available. Beca was leaning against the wall, staring down at the floor. And Chloe was sitting on the exam table, nervously bouncing her leg up and down.
Chloe cleared her throat and scooted back a bit more on the table. Beca looked up and saw how nervous Chloe was.
"You okay, Chlo?" Beca asked.
"Um, yeah," Chloe said. "Just a bit nervous."
"I don't think you need to be," Sophie said with a soft smile. "You aren't exhibiting any of the symptoms, and you're getting the vaccine within 72 hours of being exposed. This is all precautionary."
"I know," Chloe said, her leg bouncing even faster.
"Do you remember when you cut your forehead?" Beca suddenly asked. "We were about seven, and your mom was watching me. We were playing tag in your yard."
"Yeah," Chloe said with a smile. "You pushed me, and I fell and hit that big stone my mom had around her garden."
"I did not push you," Beca said, mouth agape. "You tripped over your own two feet."
"That's not how I remember it," Chloe said, laughing.
"You have a terrible memory," Beca said. "Anyway, your mom drove us to the hospital, and you were scared, laying on that bed waiting for the nurse to come put the stitches in. I asked you if you wanted me to hold your hand so you wouldn't be so scared."
"I remember," Chloe said quietly.
Beca smiled and held out her hand. "It's all yours if you need it."
Chloe's eyes looked up at Beca, only to see concern and kindness. Chloe took Beca's hand and smiled at her.
"Thank you," Chloe said.
Sophie smiled as she watched Beca and Chloe. There was a light knock on the door.
"Come in," Chloe called out as Beca moved to the side, keeping Chloe's hand in hers.
"Chloe Beale?" the doctor asked as she entered.
"Yes," Chloe said.
"I'm Dr. Robbins," the doctor said. "I have a few questions to ask before you get the vaccine. Okay?"
Chloe nodded, and Dr. Robbins looked down at the clipboard in her hand.
"Okay," Dr. Robbins said. "Your vitals look good. You don't have a fever, which is great. Do you have a sore throat?"
"No," Chloe responded.
"Have you noticed a rash anywhere on your body?"
"No."
"May I check your back?"
"Okay," Chloe said and let go of Beca's hand so she could pull her shirt up.
"Good, good," Dr. Robbins said. "You may put your shirt down."
Chloe put her shirt down and immediately reached for Beca's hand. Beca let her take it and gave her a light squeeze.
"Open your mouth, please," Dr. Robbins.
Chloe opened her mouth, and the doctor used a small penlight to check for tiny white spots, which were a sign of measles.
"All clear," Dr. Robbins said, placing her penlight in her pocket.
Dr. Robbins picked up her clipboard and made some notes on the chart and set it to the side. She picked up a syringe and removed the safety tip from the needle.
"Are you ready?" Dr. Robbins asked.
Chloe nodded and tightly gripped Beca's hand. Dr. Robbins rubbed an alcohol swab over Chloe's arm and injected the vaccine.
Chloe winced, and it was over.
"That should do it," Dr. Robbins said, placing the syringe into the 'hazardous' receptacle. "You don't have measles and should be immune now. But I would highly recommend that you visit your primary doctor once you get home and get another injection within 28 days."
"Thank you, doctor," Chloe said.
"You're welcome," Dr. Robbins said. "Did you have any questions?"
Chloe shook her head, and Dr. Robbins told her she was free to go. She handed Chloe some papers and left the room.
"I don't know about you two," Sophie said as she stood. "But I could use some lunch."
"Sounds good to me," Beca said.
Sophie walked out, followed by Beca and Chloe, who were still holding hands.

Thirteen Days
Entry number 2 into the @bechloe-week Weekley Bechloe mini-challenge. This for the prompt ‘quarantine’.
Ao3
Thirteen Days
It was only day 6 of lockdown but LA already had a death toll. The rising count statewide was actually what finally got the state government to act. It was scary as hell but Chloe was in lockdown with her favorite person in the entire world. Her roommate, up and coming musician, and the girl she had been in love with for nearly a decade, Beca Mitchell.
Chloe suspected that she would have been in a much worse state of mind if not for Beca. Chloe was suffering from information overload on a near-daily basis before lunch. Beca had on more than one occasion hidden both of their phones and laptops behind the locked door to what had originally been designated as Chloe's bedroom but quickly became a guestroom/Beca's home studio space, and removed the batteries from all the remotes except for the blu-ray player that had Netflix to keep Chloe from looking up any more doom and gloom. And Chloe was grateful. Yesterday had been especially bad. Chloe had come across a pair of reports of deaths that blew a hole the size of the 405 in the claims that 'only the elderly and immunocompromised had to worry'. The first was a college athlete without a single health problem. He was the same age Chloe had been the day she met Beca. The second was a 13-year-old girl. She had spent hours curled up in Beca's arms alternating between crying and having panic attacks as the reality of the situation set in. Beca had run a marathon of Disney movies in their shared bedroom the whole rest of the day until Chloe had drifted off to sleep.
The next morning Chloe was making a sizable breakfast of all of Beca's favorites to bring her in bed to thank her for everything she did the day before. She glanced at the clock figuring she had enough time to finish before Beca woke up. She had just finished plating the food and was turning to the fridge to get the orange juice when her entire world stopped at the sound of a violent coughing fit coming from the bedroom. Her mind immediately flashed back to the last time they had gone to the store to stock up when the rumors of the lockdown started getting serious. The store had been packed. Despite all the talk of social distancing, Chloe would have been shocked if there was a total of six feet of open space in the entire store. That had been a week before the lockdown order had been given. Thirteen days ago.
Chloe sprinted to the bedroom. She slammed the door open to find Beca doubled over, still coughing. The covers on the bed had been kicked away from her body. Her face was flushed, which could have been attributed to the coughing fit. But the sheen of sweat over every inch of exposed skin Chloe could see was not the fault of coughing.
“Oh god no,” Chloe whispered. She rushed forward nearly jumping onto the bed. “Beca!”
Her coughing continued. She tried to speak only to cough again before she could form any coherent words. Chloe placed a hand on Beca's forehead only to yank it away from her burning skin. Chloe ran into the bathroom and wet a washcloth with cold water. After a few moments of searching, she found a bottle of cough syrup and a digital thermometer. She dashed back to the bed. She opened the bottle and handed it to Beca then started running the cold washcloth over the back of Beca's neck as she tilted her head back swallowing probably more than the recommended dosage.
“Thank you.” Beca croaked as Chloe wiped over her forehead and face, then down her chest and arms.
“I'm calling the doctor,” Chloe said. Not saying '  to find out where to get tested'   out loud. But Beca saw the panic growing in her eyes. She turned on the thermometer and waited for it to chime ready. “Open.”
Beca dutifully opened her mouth and closed it again around the annoying plastic and metal probe. As soon as it was in place she watched as Chloe tried her best not to run from the room to get her phone. After several moments she could hear Chloe's voice but couldn't make out what she was saying until she shouted.
“I know the symptoms! They are all over the news and the internet! The last time we were out in public for any reason was thirteen days ago!”
Chloe's voice dropped again but it was obvious she was coming back to the bedroom just as the thermometer beeped.
“Yes, she is running a fever,” Chloe said as she walked up to the bed and plucked it from Beca's mouth. “Shit. It's 100.8, we need to come in today. As soon as possible.”
Beca watched as the tension in Chloe's face started to relax.
“Yes. Both of us. We went to the store to stock up two weeks ago and have been in close contact with each other in our apartment since.” Chloe paused. “Ok. Thank you very much.”
Chloe took the thermometer and the cough syrup back into the bathroom. She swung the door closed behind her so she could lean against the counter and try not to burst into tears. She only managed to stay quiet when she did start crying.
“Chlo?” Came Beca's scratchy voice from the bedroom after several minutes of Chloe not returning from the bathroom.
“Yeah. Just a second.” Chloe called trying to keep her voice even. She wiped at her face and almost considered doing her makeup, but decided that would make it even more obvious since they had both stopped bothering days ago. She slowly pulled open the door and started towards the hallway. “Just stay in bed. I'm going to bring you the breakfast I was fixing.”
Beca started to shuffle pillows around so she could sit up. She had gotten herself set up by the time Chloe returned with her food. She made another trip to get her own breakfast and climbed into bed with Beca.
“What was this for?” Beca rasped.
“I was thanking you for yesterday and all those Disney movies without complaining even once.” Chloe smiled.
“You didn't have too. But I'm glad you did.” Beca said before coughing a few times.
“Our appointment is at one. They have a mini drive-up testing center set up to keep from exposing other people that have other reasons to go to the doctor right now.”
Beca just nodded, not wanting to talk much more than she had to with her throat hurting.
Chloe turned on the tv and started searching Netflix. She turned on something light and kinda mindless to watch while they ate.
After they finished breakfast Chloe went digging in their closet. At the time the lockdown order had gone into effect they hadn't had any orders about wearing masks in public yet, so Chloe hadn't gone looking since they had stocked up enough food for at least another week and a half. She found what she was looking for tucked into a side pocket of her suitcase. She and Beca had joined the Beale family ski trip last year over Christmas. Chloe had gotten them a pair of 'neck warmer ski masks' that looked like a turtleneck that had been removed from its shirt. It could be pulled all the way up over your nose to keep your face warm and Chloe figured that much fabric would be much better than cutting up a t-shirt like the internet was suggesting. But given they weren't even going to have to get out of the car to get tested they might not even need them at all.
Chloe made them some sandwiches and packed them both a lunch because she had no idea how long they might be waiting despite having an appointment. She gathered a clean change of clothes for Beca, who hadn't gotten dressed yet since waking up. All of this in-between sessions of panicked pacing in the living room.
Once Beca was dressed Chloe changed into clothes that were more acceptable to wear in public before hustling Beca out to the car. She ran back inside to grab their packed lunch and took a long slow look around the home that they had built together, fighting back tears again.
Chloe barely heard the music playing in the car as she drove. The trip took less than a quarter as long as she was planning. There were virtually no cars on the road.
“Is it just me or does it feel like we are in the opening scenes of some post-apocalyptic movie and we are like the last people left on earth?” Beca was the one to say it, which itself said how deserted the roads were.
They pulled up outside the doctor's office at 12:15, a full half-hour earlier that Chloe had expected. She saw a small tent in one corner of the parking lot and every other parking spot around that corner blocked off. She drove over and was waved down by a person in essentially a hazmat suit holding a clipboard. Chloe opened the window less than an inch, just enough to communicate.
“Do you have an appointment?” The person said.
“Yes, we do. Mitchell and Beale for 1 o'clock. Sorry we are early, I honestly didn't give any thought to how little traffic there would be.” Chloe said.
“Don't worry about. Everybody has done the same thing. We will get you taken care of as quickly as possible. Just wait in the car and we will hold up a sign with your name when it's your turn. Go ahead and park over there.” The person pointed to the end of the row in front of them. “Should be about 10-15 minutes.”
“Thank you,” Chloe said as she put the car back in gear. “How are you doing Becs?”
Beca shrugged and reclined her seat a bit before curling up.
Chloe watched as Beca nearly dozed off then turned her attention to the team working their way through the few cars waiting. They moved with a practiced efficiency that both impressed and frightened Chloe. She zoned out watching their movements until the person with the clipboard waved to get her attention. They held up a small whiteboard with Mitchell-Beale written on it. Chloe's heart skipped a beat.
Chloe pulled up to the spot she was directed to and rolled down both windows. The workers checked their temperatures with laser thermometers, that Chloe thought were pretty cool. They had both of them stick out their tongues so they could check their throats. Then they performed the test, which was very unpleasant. Before they let them leave they did a second swabbing of their throats.
“We will call you when the results come in. Good luck.” One of the workers said as they stepped back from the car to let them leave.
Chloe could barely bring herself to smile at them as she rolled up their windows. She didn't say a word the entire drive home.
When they got home they both changed back into more comfortable clothes and Beca crawled back into bed and took a nap. Chloe wanted to climb into bed and just hold Beca, but instead, she quietly closed the door before retreating to the living room, turning on the tv for some sound, and began crying again.
Chloe jerked awake at the sound of metal clanging in the kitchen. She looked around in confusion. The sun was setting outside. A blanket slipped off of her as she sat up awkwardly trying to move with a sore back.
She shuffled out to the kitchen to find Beca setting a pot of water on a burner.
“What are you doing?” Chloe said, her voice still thick with sleep.
“I woke up from my nap and you weren't there. I found you asleep on the couch so I covered you with a blanket and watched some tv for a while. Then I was in the mood for ramen. So here we are.” Beca said. Her voice still rough but it was better than it had been that morning.
“Go sit down,” Chloe ordered. “You are sick. I'll fix your food.”
Beca looked like she was going to object right up until Chloe shot her a look that said Beca wasn't going to win this argument. She stepped away from the stove and headed for the living room.
“And thank you for the blanket,” Chloe whispered as she placed a light kiss on Beca's cheek.
The next two days went much the same. Beca slept a lot. Chloe cried a lot and tried not to think about the sore throat she was starting to develop. Beca continued to be stubborn and tried to take care of herself as often as possible. And Chloe almost as often either ordered or, on three different occasions, physically carried Beca to the couch or bed to get her to stop.
The afternoon of the third day, after an especially bad coughing fit, Chloe broke. She started crying in front of Beca for the first time since she woke up sick days ago.
“Hey hey hey. It's ok Chlo.” Beca said as she gathered Chloe into her arms and started stroking her hair.
“No. It's not ok Beca.” Chloe's voice cracked. “I can't do this without you.”
“Can't do what?”
“This! Everything. My whole life. I can't lose you.” Chloe said between sobs.
“You aren't going to lose me Chlo.”
“You don't know that! And I don't want to live the rest of my life without you.”
“What the hell Chloe?”
“Beca I am trying to tell you that I'm in love with you and I don't want you to die!”
Beca stared opening and closing her mouth for what seemed like an hour.
A phone ringing startled both of them. Beca reached over and picked up her phone from her nightstand.
“Hello? … Speaking. … I see. … Both of us? … Ok. … Yes, the one on file. … Yes. Thank you.” Beca hung up. After she set down her phone she took a slow deep breath. “Chloe. I love you too. I'm  in   love with you too.”
“On no. Nononononono.” Chloe started crying again. She grabbed her own phone and started furiously started typing. “Fuck!”
“What?” Beca asked as Chloe started typing again.
“Apparently the courts aren't considered 'essential services' right now. Maybe they haven't locked down Vegas yet.” Chloe said distractedly.
“What are you talking about Chlo?”
“If one or both of us is going to die in the next few weeks I want to die knowing I got to be married to the love of my life.” Chloe looked up at the sound of Beca gasping. And found tears running down her smiling face.
Beca slowly reached out and took Chloe's phone from her.
“How 'bout you take me on at least a few dates first? But first, you need to make a run to the pharmacy at the Ralph's down the street.”
“Wha...but the internet says there's no treatment yet.”
“They ran a preliminary test here, but they have to send it to the CDC to make sure.”
“And...?”
“They came back negative for both of us. The test that came back positive was for strep throat.”
“So you're going to be ok?” A smile started spreading across Chloe's lips.
“Yeah. After a few more days of this fucking sore throat. And you're probably gonna get it too so they sent prescriptions for both of us to the pharmacy.” Beca grinned. “Maybe you can pick up some pizza while you are out and we can have that first date. Unless you still want to jump right to getting married.”
“After all this time it still surprises me that I am in love with such a pain in my ass.” Chloe laughed.
“'All this time'? Just how long have you been in love with me?”
“Think I'm going to let you wonder about that for awhile. I have to make a trip to the store.” Chloe said as she hopped off the bed giggling.
“Now who's the pain in the ass?” Beca called after her as she skipped down the hall. The sound of Chloe's laughter echoed back into the bedroom and it was the most beautiful thing Beca had ever heard...so far.
