i'm not really good at posts but i'd like to leave this in memory of Mi'kmaw elder and author Daniel Paul who passed away last month.
Tumblr media
his book We Were Not the Savages is an incredibly detailed, researched, and impactful book on Mi'kmaq history, pre- and post-european contact and to the present day, including his personal experiences at the Schubenacadie Indian day school. i really don't have the words to express how important he and this book have been but it's really something to check out.

hi heres art so you pay attention to me now go read the tags
#ive been rewatching episode 7 like its the only thing on youtube and made note of many things#first off. the solver can only have one host. nori mentions skyn wants to kill off all the other solver hosts (with the dds) and disregards#the idea of both uzi and doll being its current host when they get chased#plus the main solver possessions only occur when skyn is out of the picture (the fightt in ep 7 is only after n decapitates “tessa”)#solver uzi is possible too but i dont count her cause she doesn't have the yellow#personal theory is that its more an instinctual response to overheating or something and not full on possession#second off nori calls the solver cyn. how does she know that name#cyn was on earth and only showed up to copper 9 recently and i presume nori's been here her whole life#it probably wasn't the other dds cause none of them made it down and they're all more savage beasts#since cyn specifies n's team retained their personalities and that makes me think the other teams didnt#also also we should've immediately questioned tessa arriving in the same type of pod as the mds when they were revealed to not be sent by j#im running out of characters also the people who dont like when i use tags like this can bite me#murder drones#murder drones nori#artori? that sounds cool#ill probably just stick with nori though#i have so many solver heart refs now#art#episode 7#murder drones episode 7#murder drones episode 7 spoilers#using the same black for shadows as my lineart doesn't work when i have to draw thin things over it#murder drones spoilers

B'Elanna, Neelix, Tuvok and Chakotay needed to star in an episode where they just talked about their different beliefs and approaches to spirituality/religion. Paired off and all together. I need to gain more insight. I need characterization and I need it to be messy.
#B'Elanna's difficulty with Klingon myths and religion (especially due to her internalized racism)#Chakotay's current strong belief in his own spirituality despite his initial complete rejection of it (and how B'Elanna seems to admire#and have talked with Chakotay about it extensively in the past given how many specifics she's aware of)#Neelix's belief in an afterlife being the only thing that comforted him after his entire family was killed - the knowledge that he would be#able to reunite with them again and that knowledge being ripped away from him#Does he still believe? Are there other aspects of his previous spiritual beliefs that are thrown into question?#Just because it isn't 'real' does it make it unimportant? How do we even know whether or not it's 'real'?#He died and doesn't remember reaching that tree and seeing his family - does that mean it didn't happen?#Tuvok's line in 'Innocence' about how he's begun to have doubts about whether or not a katra exists and what happens after someone dies#and his firm ties to Vulcan spirituality and ritual#ALL SO INTERESTING!!!!!!!!#star trek voyager#I don't think it'd be a calm or healthy conversation either - they're not therapists and I don't think anyone but Chakotay#would be particularly careful with his words#and before you say Tuvok's a Vulcan so he would be let me remind you that Tuvok told B'Elanna to her face that he thought Klingons#were basically savages - he is INDELICATE to say the least#Neelix is careful with his words bc he's a people pleaser for survival but also he has a tendency to bother people and be overly pushy#and I think he'd do a lot of research and be the one leading the conversation/the reason they get on the topic and continue on it#B'Elanna wouldn't want to talk about it. She wants to talk about it the least. But she must!!!! Bc the episode demands it!!#st voy

Teach me your slangs, I want to understand.
Last night I learned what "he ate" meant. (Pst, it does not literally mean that they're eating. It means something like "he pulled that off" in a positive way)
Please help this poor swede out. 😂
I feel like I bump into similar slangs all the time, and I just nod and lift my cup of coffee like "aye, cheers kid."
Idk about anybody else, but my online life consists of reading history, watching documentaries, catching up on artists I like and admire, watch art videos and tuning in on YouTube gossip.
So I wasnt present with the lingo development online lol.
I am like-- so lost, lol. And considering my followers seem to be on the younger side, I figured I should at least know what you all are saying when you comment on my stuff. 😂😂
For example: Please explain "poggers" to me.

i think the reason i enjoyed wake the dead so much is because it’s literally just a blades zombie apocalypse au?! i think people have brought this up before but i’m replaying rn and it just.. Slays
like the mc loses their sibling who they care about more than anything. they leave the place they’ve always called their home and befriend a group of ragtag allies along the way. though the wtd mc’s goal isn’t necessarily to save the world, it IS to save the people in the colony & the people they care about in time for the solstice. all of it builds up to the final battle against The Big Bad, with smaller battles and travels throughout.
the love interests all have their blades counterparts (other than sledge):
troy = mal (witty, comedic & nonchalant but caring beneath the cocky demeanour. also both criminals lol)
shannon = nia (more sheltered, not super physically strong but still surprises herself, one of her skills involves healing, optimistic)
eli = tyril (stoic, family-oriented, tries not to get attached and is reluctant to join the group at first, lethal in combat & has his signature weapon)
angel = imtura (more of a wildcard, impulsive, ruthless when it comes to whatever you’re fighting, the token Badass)
even the order you befriend them all in is the same: we befriend shannon first (just like we first work with nia), then troy (mal), eli (tyril), and finally angel (imtura).
obviously certain personality traits are unique and different tropes and backstories are included but ?!!?! it’s so them!
the mc collects armour and weapons along the way, reading letters and recipe books like the blades mc read lore tablets. you have specific skills(???) that you can choose to upgrade or get along the way (fortifications, research, etc) and you get benefits and specific scenes based on your skills/resources.
dirk is also kind of like an aerin parallel — always overlooked, feels under appreciated in the colony, left behind and resentful about someone else being the leader & getting all the credit.
ALSO the marcus blackstock/high priest parallels with them being supposedly good but sacrificing the innocent…
even the slowmo-action-shot character art is like the art in blades (when mal throws the dagger, tyril has his flaming sword, imtura on the ship, etc).

you ever see the most stupid take about indigenous American history that makes you go "ohhhh this person has no idea what the fuck they're talking about" and then you look up info of their bio and they're literally white
#julien posts#ndn#this post is apt that one person going “hey the noble savage trope is bad we shouldn't infantilize native Americans and here's why”#and then they list a bunch of atrocities indigenous tribes committed pre colonization#like hello#did you forget that the Indian savage is also bad if not worse than the noble savage#like why do you think it's called the “noble” savage to begin with LMAO#indigenous tribes already KNOW the shit our ancestors did#did you forget that how exaggerated a bunch of it was though because of how racist colonizers wanted to emphasize how “savage” we were#and how that became a harmful stereotype towards indigenous peoples#like the “Noble savage” wouldn't have existed to begin with has there not been the “savage” stereotype LMAO#they had the audacity to go at the end#infantilizing indigenous tribes w/out recognizing their past is just as bad as colonizers stereotyping them#as savages#like HELLO?????? LOL#and like its not like infantilizing/romanticising indigenous peoples isn't a problem either#it very much is!!#but op literally could've went “they're history during colonization is actually really complex”#(aka the time period where the noble savage DID emerge. mind you)#“and they're more than just the stereotypical Pocahontas” they could've said#but nooooo they had to go the white supremecist route. okay. lol#like PLEASE do more research beyond Wikipedia if ur gonna be talking apt this shit pls#(yes I know they did use wikipedia. they literally admitted it in the notes. lol)#(also imo I don't think white people should be talking abt this shit to begin with cuz most of them are bound to mess it up#but if you HAVE TO do proper research. I beg of you as an Indian studying American Indian history)#EDIT: btw im not saying you cant include the atrocities some indigenous tribes did commit#when talking about the complexities of indigenous history and how its not right to infantilize us#but if your entire post is ONLY abt said atrocities while ignoring the rest of the complexities during colonization#(esp when the noble savage stereotype was most relevant)#then its a bad look on you and isnt the allyship u think it is. lol

I just remembered how my friend’s dad told me with a serious face that my tribe is full of cannibals and that there were savages hiding in the woods we lived near. Like wtf. I didn’t know how to respond

repeat after me: if you are the descendent of colonizers living on stolen land, you do not get to judge the methods of decolonial resistance movements.
#this isn’t in relation to the last reblog itself it just reminded me of something#thoughts#sarahofmagdelene has some good shorts about this on insta though#like specifically abt how it relates to white feminism + patriarchal notions of (white) womanhood#the skinny of it being that white women tend to impose the standards of white womenhood laid out by white patriarchy onto those who they ar#*womanhood#(sorry all over the place today)#complicit in the oppression of with the added specifically racialized view of violent resistance through the lens of various savage tropes#have to get a copy of her book after the strike tbh#but yeah i think a lot about this in congruence with how authoritarianism is such a deeply engrained aspect of whiteness & how that itself#contributes to the attitudes being discussed here being so prevalent even among my fellow white people who consider themselves leftist or#progressive (& how that relates to how many white people are liberals/neoliberals posing as being farther left than they are)#but if we were to relate this specifically to the last reblog i would like to point out that another part of that is the whiteness frames#good & bad as an immutable either/or binary & the way super fucked up notions of purity play into whiteness#which (not an excuse absolutely not acting like this is still 100000% white supremacist at its core) is what leads my fellow white people t#be so fearful of having current or past wrong doings pointed out as such & why so many are more concerned with being seen as racist than w#the actual racism they perpetuate/garner privilege from#because that means being horrible with no chance of change (thoug oppressed ppl do 100% hold the right to view their oppressors as such#the white guilt this often leads to when self imposed is what leads to attitudes like the article from the last post describes)#(& so the difference of perspective in the oppressed feeling that way & the oppressor using it to self flagellate is v important here)#& all of this is ultimately rooted in the carcerality inherent to whiteness as a social construct#both in terms of the far worse tangible violence imposed upon poc (particularly black people & fn ppl here in canada) & the carceral view o#morality white “culture” imposes upon those white people who are unwilling to fully do the work to divest from whiteness#hope this is coherent#also if any of this is out of line plz lmk#but basically to cut to the chase power (& as a result empowerment of the oppressed) viewed through the lens whiteness has set for it will#always be fucked up & lead to completely racist conclusions about liberation movements for poc#& the reason i mention this in relation to decolonial movements specifically is due to whiteness being an inherently colonial construct it’#*itself#racism
