WDoR puts the spotlight on JUSTICE. 

Traffic law enforcement, thorough investigation after a crash to find out if a crime was committed and to prevent recurrence, criminal prosecution where appropriate and civil compensation are all part of the justice system. When carried out seriously, fairly and consistently, such a system is what road crash victims who have been injured or had a family member killed as the result of someone’s law–breaking or negligence deserve and wish for, since it also represents a main factor of prevention and this would mean that lessons are learnt from their tragedies so that they may not be repeated.

The World Day of Remembrance of Road Traffic Victims 2023 will be held on November 19th under the theme "JUSTICE" with the slogan REMEMBER.SUPPORT.ACT. Follow the conversation with the hashtags: #WDoR2023.

USA - The Kansas Department Transportation on WDoR 2023.

The Kansas Department of Transportation will recognize WDoR the work week prior to November 19, (November 13-17) by sharing an image on all employee computer screens, developing and using social media on KDOT channels and sharing the social media slides with transportation safety partners for their distribution. We also plan to use WDoR related messages on digital message boards November 17-18.

SAFE Delaware County Coalition acknowledges those who passed away due to motor vehicle crashes.

Each November, the SAFE Delaware County Coalition acknowledges those who passed away due to motor vehicle crashes in Delaware County through a remembrance ceremony. Traditionally a display of wreaths with the name of each victim is dedicated as a reminder to drive safely. The purpose of the SAFE Remembers event is to acknowledge that the lives lost are not forgotten. It represents this coalition’s plea to all drivers to remember that their behavior can change everything. Everyone knows someone who has been hurt or injured in a car crash. We have the tools to protect each other. It’s time to begin the work of implementing them. As a way of paying our respect and remembering those victims, the SAFE coalition will also be acknowledging “World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims” on Sunday, November 19 by spreading the word about traffic safety awareness. The specific objectives

To raise awareness about the devastating impact of road accidents on families, communities, and the country as a whole.

To advocate for improved road safety measures, including better infrastructure, education, and enforcement of traffic laws.

To commemorate and honor the victims of road traffic accidents through annual events and activities on the World Day Remembrance for Road Victims.

Project activities

Conducting road safety awareness campaigns in various regions of Uganda to educate drivers, pedestrians, and other road users about safe driving practices and the importance of following traffic rules and regulations.

Organizing an annual event on the World Day of Remembrance for Road Victims to commemorate and honor the victims of road accidents, including a candlelight vigil, a moment of silence, and speeches from government officials, NGOs, and victims’ families.

Engaging with the media to raise awareness about the event and to promote road safety messages to the public through radio, TV, and social media platforms.

Working with relevant government agencies and NGOs to advocate for improved road safety measures, such as better road infrastructure, the enforcement of traffic laws, and the provision of emergency medical services.

Collaborating with private sector companies and organizations to sponsor and support the project activities and to promote road safety messages to their employees and customers. Improve road safety measures through painting of zebra crossing and serving of reflectors to motorists. Innovation

Painting road markings and signs with reflective paint to increase their visibility at night and in low-light conditions.

Advocating for the installing speed humps and bumps in high-risk areas to reduce the speed of vehicles and prevent accidents.

Advocating for creating designated bike lanes and pedestrian walkways to separate cyclists and pedestrians from motor vehicles.

Providing helmets and other safety gear to motorcyclists and bicyclists, along with education about the importance of using these safety measures.

Project Duration The project will take place on 19th November 2023 and will run for a year.

Connecticut; USA - Over 700 small white flags will represent those who have died on our CT roads in 2022 & 2023.

Connecticut will hold its first statewide event in Bushnell Park, Hartford, 1 – 3 p.m. The goals of WDoR are to provide a platform for road traffic victims and their families to: – Remember all people killed and seriously injured on the roads – Acknowledge the crucial work of the emergency services – Draw attention to the generally trivial legal response to culpable road deaths and injuries and advocate for an appropriately serious response – Advocate for better support for road traffic victims and victim families – Promote evidence-based actions to prevent further road traffic deaths and injuries We anticipate having a few families of victims speak, a roll call of those who have died, prayers given by a faith leader, and lastly legislators speak. Singapore - Movesafe SG draw attention to the generally trivial legal response to culpable road deaths and injuries.

Movesafe SG’s objective is to bring WDoR home to Singaporeans. As a community, we believe this event can have an impact on our society and bring about a change in road user behavior through the awareness of road fatalities in Singapore.

Through our program, we aim to:

• remember all people killed and seriously injured on the roads;

• acknowledge the crucial work of the emergency services;

• draw attention to the generally trivial legal response to culpable road deaths and injuries and advocate for an appropriately serious response;
