When the world needed the Avatar the most, he vanished. One hundred years passed. The fires of war raged. Lives were torn apart and reshaped in its heat, leaving the world forever changed. The waterbenders of the Southern Watertribe were hunted to near extinction, until only Sokka and Katara were left. For this, their mother was killed trying to protect them. Their father and the men of their village left to fight. The Avatar? Please. That's the stuff of children's dreams and spirits tales. There isn't anyone coming to save them. So why did this airbender suddenly turn up now, in the South Pole of all places, looking for him?
I somehow managed to squeeze this out between starting a new job and kids being home from school for the summer. So uh. Enjoy?

They’re making a story about an Earthbending Avatar right? I’m wondering if Jinora, Ikki, Meelo and Rohan will have their own kids and if they’ll be friends with the next Avatar. Along with Suyin’s grandchildren and if General Iroh had any kids. It would just be super cute if each generation of the Avatar will always be connected to the OG through children/grandchildren, etc

Like many Kataang fans, I have mixed feelings about Aang and Katara's future as depicted in The Legend Of Korra. So I have decided to come up with my own AU. I don't know if I will write a full fic for it yet but below are some basic ideas for their kids. Here is the picrew for their designs.
Tenzin: firstborn. He inherits his father's devotion to his culture and his mother's stubbornness. He carries the responsibility of his younger siblings and his parents' legacy on his shoulders. He has to learn to just be true and happy to himself. He has four children with Pema like in canon but with a twist: Jinora and Meelo are the only airbenders. Pema got her wish for a nonbender child with Rohan. Ikki is a waterbender.
Bumi: middle child. He inherits his father's fun loving spirit and his mother's love for helping people. As the middle child and only nonbender in the family, he gets a little lost in the shuffle and tends to play this off as a joke. He has to learn to take his own needs seriously. He marries an equally funny Earth Kingdom woman named Irma and they also have four children: Chen (earthbender), Lian (waterbender), Ren (nonbender), and Tashi (airbender).
Kya: youngest/one child of twins. She inherits her father's spirituality and her mother's bravery. She buts heads with her twin sister as they both have a passion to travel and spread their cultures. Like in canon, she is the first to learn waterbending fighting and healing simultaneously and travels to pass it on. She has her first child (Suluk, also a waterbender) with her ex from the Northern tribe. She eventually learns to claim her roots with her culture and settles down to marry Lin Beifong. Her and Lin adopt a child together (Yon, nonbender) and she takes over as Chief of the Southern Tribe from her mother.
Dawa: youngest/other child of twins. She inherits her father's love for adventure and mother's determination. She follows the nomadic traditions of the airbenders more so than Tenzin and she travels the world to help people connect with their former airbending ancestry. She is poly with other members of her Air Nomad community so she isn't sure who the "birth fathers" of her two girls (Aki and Nima, both airbenders) are. She has to learn to balance building her new family while staying connected to her old family. She settles in the Southern Air Temple to be closer to her siblings and parents.

🍊 Ikki approached Lin’s desk, “I let myself in Aunt Lin, I told your secretary it was very important,” she explained before plopping herself down in the seat across from the chief.
“I was talking to Kai and he said to me ‘you act like a dyke’ and when I asked what that was he said ‘like Chief Beifong’ So what’s a dyke and why are you one ?” she blabbered.
“Why is your face so red Aunt Lin?” she asked tilting her head. “Are you angry? I’m sorry I made you angry,”
Lin sighed and ran a hand over her face before sitting back and watching Ikki for a moment.
She had half a thought to tell Ikki to go ask Kya, surely the world traveled waterbender would have a better explanation for the girl, or at least an up to date answer.
“Well Ikki, that’s an unkind word some people use for women who date other women.” She started simply. “At least it was when I was growing up. Why would he say such a thing to you?”

Team Avatar
Katrina is the current incarnation of the Guardian and immediate successor of Guardian Ceres. Born and raised in the Southern Water Tribe with her twin sister, Avatar Korra, where she mastered waterbending, earthbending, and firebending, she later relocated to Republic City to attain a similar proficiency with airbending under the tutelage and guidance of Tenzin. With the assistance of Ceres's spirit, Katrina gained the ability to energybend and, after connecting with her past lives, she gained the capacity to enter the Guardian State at will, marking her transition into a fully realized Guardian.
Katrina started a romantic relationship with the general of the United Forces and, the son of Fire Lord Izumi, a member of the Fire Nation Royal Family, as well as a firebending master and skilled military leader, Iroh II.
History:
Katrina was born to Tonraq and Senna after Korra by five minutes in the Southern Water Tribe following the deaths of Avatar Aang and Fire Lady Guardian Ceres in 153 AG. At the age of four, she and Korra introduced themselves to the Order of the White Lotus as the new Avatar and Guardian by Korra performing water-, earth-, and firebending while Katrina performed water-, earth-, fire-, and airbending before them. She honed her waterbending under the tutelage of Katara, though unlike her twin sister's instinctive aggressive style, Katrina's style is the calm, slow movements the elderly master pass on to her.
After Chief Unalaq learned that his nieces are the Avatar and Guardian, he constantly sought Tonraq's permission to train Korra and Katrina in the spiritual ways of the Water Tribe, but his estranged brother shot him down. Since he secretly desired to indoctrinate Korra and Katrina in the ways of the Red Lotus and coerce them to reopen the long-dormant spirit portals to release Vaatu, Unalaq commissioned Zaheer, Ghazan, Ming-Hua, and P'Li to kidnap them in 158 AG.
However, due to the efforts of Tonraq, Chief Sokka, Fire Lord Zuko, and Councilman Tenzin, the attempt was thwarted, and the criminals were apprehended, although Unalaq's involvement remained unknown. After the incident, Tonraq and Tenzin decided to seclude the Avatar and Guardian in the Southern Water Tribe compound, away from the public eye as they pursued the bending arts.
Trivia:
• Katrina means "Pure" in Greek.
• Unlike Korra, Katrina always carried a water skin everywhere she goes, so she carries three water skins, similar to Katara during the invasion.
• Katrina has a pet Snow Leopard Cat name Amari, whom she met with Naga when she and Korra were young. Since Amari grew up to be the same size as Naga, Katrina rides on her with a saddle just like Korra with Naga.
• Katrina is the first Guardian who has lightning generation.
• Katrina is the second Guardian who can use metalbending, the first is Ceres. Unlike her sister, Katrina carries metal with her wherever she goes.
• Katrina is the second Guardian who can use bloodbending, the first is Ceres. However, while Ceres can only bloodbend during the full moon, Katrina can bloodbend at will without the aid of the full moon, but they both share the desire to never use bloodbending again.
• Like Korra, Katrina is also a healer.
• Since she was a child, even after finding out she is the Guardian, Katrina used to take dancing as one of her hobbies. Because of this, she uses her knowledge of dancing to avoid her enemy's attacks.

Tickle Headcanons no one asked for - Legend of Korra: The girlies
I've been noticing that there's a very distinct lack of tickle headcanons for TLoK, especially for the female characters. So Imma give you my somewhat extensive headcanons.
Tumblr media
Korra:
A good sport as a lee, devastating as a ler
Will fight back as much as humanly possible and get her revenge on you
Most ticklish spots are her armpits and sides. Something about her being so athletic always makes me think of ticklish underarms
Also moderately ticklish feetsies
She would be flexing a lot around team Avatar, Asami and the airbender kids, which usually leads to tickle fights
Ikki would occasionally ally herself with Meelo and Korra to attack Jinora
Asami can devastate her occasionally, because Korra doesn't wanna hurt her with too forceful bending, so she lets her have her wins sometimes
Would definitely trap someone with bending and then tickle the shit out of them
Is very selective about, whom she wants to get tickled by. Definitely prefers female lers of male ones
Will absolutely tease you to high heaven (or hell) and make you praise her, just to get her to stop
Tumblr media
Asami:
Has all the most adorable tickle spots: Neck, ears and back
Highly susceptible to raspberries on her neck and back/sides from Korra (who uses airbending occasionally to make those even more tickly)
A super lenient, nice lee and an occasionally devilish ler
Will go ham on Korra, whenever she has had enough of her cocky personality
Once used her martial arts/self defense training to wrestle Korra down, pin her arms under her legs and tickle the ever living shit out of her armpits
Doesn't really tickle anyone/gets tickled by anyone but Korra
Grew up with little to no tickling in her household
Verbal teasing, but much more soft and less relentless than Korra's
Tumblr media
Opal:
Would absolutely wreck Bolin, whenever he's being an idiot (so a lot)
Lee leaning switch, but more of a ler with Bolin
Ticklish spots are: Her belly, sides, thighs and toes
Korra tickled her a few times during her airbender training to make her training more fun
Would occasionally be drawn into tickle fight with her siblings
Actually looooves having tickle fights with her mom. It's a safe space for her
A soft ler for sure
Tumblr media
Jinora:
Aka the fairy queen
Reminds me a lot of my best friend, so obviously she's super ticklish
Biggest tickle spots are: Her feet (especially her heels and the balls of her feet), her belly, sides and armpits
Doesn't belly laugh a lot in everyday life, but when you get to tickle er, her laughter is like pure, joyeous music
Big lee energy
Would get wrecked by her siblings a lot, especially Ikki, who wanted her to "lighten up" quite often
Will go absolute bonkers if you trap and tickle her feet
Korra once waterbended ice stockades to trap Jinora's feet and she and Jinora's siblings went to town on her
Gets tickled a lot by Kai, but more so in a soft way
Has this soft spoken demeanor, that makes it even more fun to wreck her
Tumblr media
Ikki:
Hyper ticklish pretty much everywhere
110% switch energy
Will absolutely tease you with baby talk
Looooves wrecking Jinora
She once made a surprising alliance with her sister to team up on Korra. Jinora was apprehensive, but whenever Korra started boasting about her avatar powers, she decided to go along with it
Loves tickling and getting tickled
Will tickle absolute anyone just for the heck of it

My updated Life is Strange x Legend of Korra AU:
Main Story:
Max, Chloe and William are all United Republic Waterbenders with Foggy Swamp heritage, with William serving as the sifu for both girls. William ends up getting murdered by a Firebender who was forced into crime due to the Prescott family's corrupt business practices. Max and her parents move to Republic City a few days later, and Joyce gets together with David - a Republic City Police reject - a few months later.
With Max not writing to her and David being all Metalbender Ozai, Chloe soon finds herself wanting to run away. Around the time of her sixteenth birthday she meets Rachel, herself a runaway after discovering that her father - the United Republic Minister of Justice - hired triad members Damon and Frank to kidnap and get rid of Sera. The two girls disappear into the Earth Kingdom, with Chloe sending Max a letter that explains her actions; Max subsequently goes into massive depression over not staying in contact with Chloe, blaming herself for Chloe's decision to run away.
In the days leading up to Amon's takeover of Republic City, Ryan and Vanessa decide to send the now 17-year old Max back to Arcadia Bay so that she can safely wait out the whole Equalist conflict. David gets paranoid and assumes she's in contact with Chloe, and violently questions her about the location of his supposed stepdaughter; this allows Joyce to see first-hand what kind of man her second husband really is, kickstarting the eventual dissolution of their marriage. Max meanwhile runs away and returns to Republic City, arriving just after the Equalists take control of it. She ends up living within Gommu's underground community, where she meets Korra and her friends, and also takes a number of still-life photos of the community. Following Amon's defeat, these photos earn her a degree of notoriety, and land her a job as a junior reporter for the Republic News.
Victoria and Nathan are both Republic City socialites and apprentices of Jefferson, here a renowned photographer and celebrity within the city, with Victoria and Jefferson both being Metalbenders. As in the game, Jefferson and Nathan are going around drugging girls for their sick photography project, before arranging for them to "disappear" once they've no further need of them. Shortly before the assassination of the Earth Queen, and right as they're planning to kidnap Jinora and Ikki for their project, Jefferson gets exposed, and he's forced to flee Republic City. Sean uses his wealth to bury any evidence of Nathan's involvement with Jefferson, effectively leaving Victoria to take the fall for his son. There's no evidence that can get her convicted for anything, but she still ends up vilified by both the media and Republic City high society, and is effectively blacklisted from the photography industry. Wanting to try and atone for her involvement with Jefferson - and also get out of the place where she's now considered a pariah - she joins up with Kuvira. David and Elliot do the same a bit later on, the former claiming to Joyce that this way he can find Chloe more easily.
Chloe and Rachel meanwhile join a community of wandering nomads known as the Strangers, whose members include Steph, Cassidy, Finn, Hannah, Gabe and later Alex. Due to a lot of their members having non-Earth Kingdom heritage (Gabe and Alex for example have Fire Nation ancestors, with Alex being a Firebender), they're targeted for purging by Kuvira, forcing them to go on the run.
[Author's note: Originally I planned to have Gabe get killed off by Kuvira, but after a while I changed my mind. I liked the thought of him staying alive and being the heart of sorts for the Strangers. That, and he's canonically Asian, thereby making him more fitting for such an AU in my book.]
At some point after this, the Strangers to become full-blown rebels against Kuvira, with Chloe and Rachel becoming two of their leaders, and Steph forging fake passports and identity papers to help refugees fleeing Kuvira's regime, while also hosting an illegal radio show that details Kuvira's crimes. Chloe also starts dying her hair blue to honour her past friendship with Max - who bought her some blue Varri-dye prior to William's death - and subsequently becomes known as the Blue/Blue-haired Bandit.
Victoria and David - the latter now divorced by Joyce after he lost his temper and punched her into unconsciousness before telling her that she shouldn't have pushed him - come to blows with the Strangers on a couple of occasions. Victoria also meets Kate - here a member of the Air Nation - and with her help she discovers the crimes that Kuvira's committing behind her back, becoming an informant for the Strangers afterwards. When she's eventually made, she accuses Kuvira of being no different than Jefferson before escaping and joining the Strangers in earnest.
As for Max, she finds work as a news photographer, and eventually travels into the Earth Kingdom after making a partial connection between the Blue-haired Bandit and the Varri-dye she once bought for her best friend. David - the commander of the local Kuvira garrison - tries to have her kidnapped in order to use her as bait for Chloe, but thanks to Victoria (these events take place prior to Kuvira discovering her treachery), the Strangers are able to save her. Max and Chloe reunite and reconcile, and Max joins Chloe in rebelling against Kuvira.
Post show and/or comics:
After Kuvira's defeat, Max - now with more levels in confidence after reuniting/getting together with Chloe and spending time as an anti-Kuvira rebel - returns to Republic City to become a professional photographer, possibly with Asami as her patron. Before long, she's on track to become the next big celebrity within the United Republic art scene.
Chloe and Rachel move to Republic City in order to stay with Max. Chloe is initially at least a little unfriendly towards Asami; there's the fear that she'll lure Max back out of her life with her rich and glamorous ways, not to mention that even though Asami pays above minimum wage, Chloe and William have only been so fond of big money types after having to put up with the Prescotts for so long. Eventually they sit down and talk things out, and Chloe is thrown for a loop when Asami respects her fears and assures her that she'd never dream of taking Max away from her, while genuinely meaning that. After that they become firm friends, and Asami invites Chloe to help test-drive Satomobiles on the side, while also offering to pay for her to go into higher education if she so wishes.
As for Rachel, she gets into the mover business and begins dating Ginger while the two of them are working on a project together. Eventually she becomes a celebrity actress in her own right, possibly with major success in modelling alongside this.
[Author's note: Credit goes to @opossum-knight for originally giving me the idea to pair up Rachel and Ginger. Prior to that, I was undecided on whether or not to have her survive to the end of Book Four.]
Other characters:
Warren is a member of the Equalists, but has second thoughts after meeting and falling for Max. He tips Ryan and Vanessa off about the Equalists' plans to target non-criminal benders, allowing Max to be safely evacuated back to Arcadia Bay prior to the Equalist takeover of Republic City. His parents make a plea deal to keep him from being prosecuted following Amon's defeat, and he later gets a job in the research division of Future Industries, while also moving into the same apartment building as Max, who he proceeds to pester for a date/relationship. Asami eventually learns what's happening when she sports him harassing Max - who's doing press stuff at a tech convention - and pressures him into backing off by threatening to have him fired and/or blacklisted.
Brooke works for Varrick, developing drone/radio control technology for him. She and Warren date, but for him it's just a way of getting his rocks off while he pursues Max. After she figures out that he's trying to play the two of them against each other, she befriends Max, and makes sure to get her a Varricam (the Avatarverse's equivalent of an instant camera) once they hit the market.

Vote on the second half of the season here!
The top 8 episodes from each season will move on to the next round.
Episode descriptions are under the cut.
Rebel Spirit
Six months after the defeat of Amon and the Equalists, Korra believes she has mastered airbending, Mako works as a policeman, Bolin fares poorly in pro-bending with the new "Fire Ferrets", and Asami tries to keep Future Industries intact. Team Avatar joins Tenzin and his family in a visit to the Southern Water Tribe for the winter solstice. The festivities are disrupted by the rampage of a dark spirit, which neither Korra nor Tenzin can calm or repel. Unalaq, Korra's uncle and the chief of the Norther Water Tribe ultimately assuages the spirit's anger with a "spiritual" form of waterbending. Despite the misgivings of her father, who has a strained relationship with his brother, Korra apprentices herself to Unalaq to continue her spiritual development, rebuffing previous mentor Tenzin in the process.
The Southern Lights
Korra and company journey with Unalaq and his children Desna and Eska to the South Pole, where Korra is to attempt to return the long-absent Southern Lights, at Unalaq's urging. When Korra learns that her father was once banished from the Northern Water Tribe for causing a spirit rampage, and that he and Tenzin were responsible for her seclusion in her youth, she insists on Tonraq returning home, and tensions begin to grow between herself and Tenzin. At the South Pole, Korra succeeds in returning the southern lights by opening a blocked "spirit portal" one of two gateways which allows access to the spirit world and regulates the flow of spiritual energy between the two worlds. Returning from the pole, Korra's party discover that Northern Water Tribe have come to occupy the south at Unalaq's direction, to initiate a "reunification" of the two tribes. At the Southern Air Temple, Jinora is strongly drawn to the statues of the past avatars, particular that of her grandfather Aang and an unidentified carving of another ancient Avatar.
Civil Wars, Part 1
As the Southerners resist Northern occupation, Unalaq offers to protect the southern portal while Korra opens its northern counterpart, claiming that this will deepen the connection between humanity and the spirits and prevent further dark spirit attacks. Eccentric Southern Tribe inventor and entrepreneur Varrick, whose business suffers from Unalaq's blockade, begins a revolt. Korra prevents an abduction of Unalaq by Southern rebels. As she tries to reconcile with her mother, Senna, and Tonraq, Unalaq appears to arrest them for conspiring to assassinate him. At the Southern Air Temple, Ikki disappears and Tenzin, Kya, and Bumi search for her while recalling their childhood with their late father, Avatar Aang.
Civil Wars, Part 2
After her father is sentenced to life in prison for conspiring to assassinate Unalaq, Korra discovers that Unalaq staged the trial, as well as Tonraq's much earlier banishment from the Northern Tribe, where Tonraq had been expected to succeed as chief. With the help of her friends and Varrick, Korra frees Tonraq and other condemned rebels from prison, and extracts Bolin from an impending forced marriage to Eska. She promises to seek the United Republic's support for the Southern rebellion. At the Southern Air Temple, Ikki and Tenzin each reconcile with their siblings.
Peacekeepers
In Republic City, tensions between Southern and Northern Water Tribe people rise as a Southern Water Tribe cultural center is bombed. Mako, back in the police force, tries to track down the culprits while Varrick produces anti-Northern propaganda "movers" starring Bolin. Korra fails to persuade President Raiko to send troops in support of the Southern rebellion. A conflicted Mako reveals Korra's plan to suborn General Iroh to commit the United Forces to the war to Raiko. Korra sets off on a sea voyage to the Fire Nation to seek the Fire Lord's support, but is pursued by Eska and Desna, and eventually swallowed by a gargantuan dark spirit.
The Sting
Mako and Asami investigate the theft of a shipment of Future Industries mecha-tanks bound for the Southern rebels, and enlist the Triple Threat Triads for a sting operation. They are double-crossed and find Asami's warehouses looted. In desperation, Asami sells a controlling share of Future Industries to Varrick before Mako identifies him as the instigator of the various bombings and thefts, though he lacks the evidence to convince his superiors. An amnesiac Korra washes ashore on a Fire Nation island.
Beginnings, Part 1
While being healed by the Fire Sages, Korra explores her past lives and experiences the journey of Wan, the first Avatar, who lived 10,000 years previous. At this time, humans lived on the shells of the giant lion turtles to protect themselves from the spirit wilds and other dangers from the spirit world that freely roam the physical world. Wan and his friends live in poverty and hunger, under the nepotistic family that rules his city. As a form of protection, the lion turtles grant the power to bend elements for a limited time when humans venture into the wilds. After Wan violates the prohibition against bringing his bending into the city in order to steal food for his friends, he is banished from the city, but allowed to keep his firebending. He manages to survive by befriending the spirits in the forest, but two years later, he sets out on a journey of exploration, where he eventually encounters two powerful spirits battling each other. One of the spirits asks Wan for assistance, when he is held down by the other, and Wan separates the two. While the spirit escapes, the other spirit, Raava, explains that she is the spirit of light and peace, and that the spirit Wan had inadvertently freed is Vaatu, the spirit of darkness and war; Wan has inadvertently initiated an age of darkness for the world.

TELL ME ANYTHING BUCHEF AND THEIR RAT KID RELATED PLEASE PLEASE I AM A STARVING CHILD DYING OF STARVATION AND NEED THEM TO LIVE
Ok so the kid comes from southern water tribe immigrants. Whether she's a waterbender is up to you. She ended up on the street relatively early in her life. She became a skilled pickpocket and scammer. She has the emotional maturity of an autistic racoon. She lives in the sewers and often wanders the docks and shipyard.
She tries to pickpocket Bumi and Chef while they were out getting supplies for their houseboat. Of course they do catch onto her and chef grabs her like this:
Tumblr media
She does bite him tho, but she's so malnourished that she ends up tuckering herself out very quickly. They do end up taking her back home and nursing her back to health. She greatly enjoys Chef's food and tells herself that she's only staying for the food, but she slowly warms up to the two nice old guys who have probably shown her more kindness than she has experienced in months, maybe even years.
I think she bonds with Chef first. He's quieter and just lets her do her own thing while he reads a newspaper or a cookbook. Also he bribes her with food. No competition. I think Chef is also more used to 'difficult children, having known Huan and Kuvira since they were small kids.
Bumi is good with kids, don't get me wrong. Bur I think him being so outwardly friendly and outgoing to her may make her suspicious. She probably is very surprised when she learns he used to be a high up in the military. She's like 'really? This dude? The one with the squeaky bunny slippers???' I think they eventually bond as well and he helps her reconnect with her southern water tribe roots. He takes her ice dodging for her 15th birthday and hes super proud of her when she gets through it.
Katara ADORES her immediately. She's so happy to have ANOTHER grandkid. The rat is super interested in the Gaang stories and thinks Katara is super cool. Similair with Kya, rat thinks Kya is just the coolest (which does cause Bumi severe psychological damage, thanks for asking)
She dislikes Tenzin tho. Calls him a stiff. But she gets along with the airkids well enough. She does call Jinora a nerd, though she does occasionally borrow (steal) Jinora's books. But her Ikki and Meelo are chaos incarnate.
Her, Kai, Mako and Bolin gave this unspoken 'we were orphans and the world is cruel and we are very traumatised. High five' alliance. Maybe her and Kai have this passive pickpocketing competition going on, you can't prove anything. Mako is very aware of this and disapproves vehemently. Bolin has been pickpicketed like 8 times because there is no loyalty among thieves.
Thanks for the ask if you have any more questions id be glad to answer! Sorry it took so long but i had a busy couple days!

Realizations #5
You find yourself unable to look away after seeing them in a fancy dress/suit for the first time
Kya, seeing Lin at Varrick’s wedding, Ikki’s master ceremony, or Mako’s promotion
Angst underneath!
All those who knew the man and all of whom that didn't understood one thing about him: Varrick was an extravagant fellow. And his wedding would easily have to be the year's most excessive, flamboyant event at that.
For reasons most couldn't fathom, the war criminal had somehow persuaded Tenzin into using Air Temple Island as his venue for the occasion. Of course, few suspected there may have been a hidden agenda for the airbender, but even fewer knew how distracted the father of four had been lately.
It was almost ironic, in fact. The wedding of the year was going to take place at the home of the divorce of the year. But of course, the divorce in question was well hidden under the heavy blanket of fun, frolic and celebration.
Another thing some couldn't quite discern was what the Chief of Police, Lin Beifong was doing attending a criminal's wedding. Little did they know, however, that she was really there for the divorce, given the titular role she played in it.
It was one of those occasions, where those who knew it all, knew and those who didn't were to leave the party with gossipy ideas and conspiracy theories: both of which, the neither couple minded.
Lin was dressed to impress, it seemed. Clad in her deep green pantsuit, her hair neatly pinned to one side, unlike her regular middle parting, she looked marvelous. Her blazer perfectly cinched her gloriously slim waist and accentuated that hourglass figure that even her metal uniform failed to hide.
Distracted as she was as she made her way over to the patriarch of the Island, she didn't notice that there had been one person watching her all evening. No, it wasn't Pema- she was occupied keeping her children in check. A smart co-parenting move on Tenzin's part. Chief Beifong didn't know that the back of her knuckles brushing against the tattooed airbender's cheek was enough grounds to shatter another woman's heart- a woman who, once again, wasn't Pema.
Kya wasn't supposed to attend this wedding: but there was something about a "last chance" that coerced the waterbender. She was dressed like her mother: an unfailing recipe to appear like an ageless beauty. Unfortunately for her, the one whose attention she felt so depraved for was engrossed in paying it to her brother. Her brother, who had had one too many "last chances" over the years. Kya had opportunities, yes, never a chance though. She could have come clean about her feelings for Lin years ago. She could've told her back when they were mere teenagers learning the tribulations of life. She could've told her that evening before she confessed to her her love for Tenzin. She could've told her when her brother callously broke her heart like it meant nothing. She could've told her when she went over with Bumi to pick up the pieces that Tenzin shattered the night of his wedding.
Spirits, she could've done so much, and yet she didn't. She wrote it off to almost anything under the sun. That it couldn't be. She could never harbor feelings for Lin. Regardless, it was that night, finally, when her eyes fell on the sheer magnificence that was Lin Beifong, that Kya realized she has been in love with her this whole time. That it wasn't some strange, strong attraction. It wasn't admiration for the woman she was. It was love.
But alas. If only she'd known sooner.
She loved Lin. And Lin loved Tenzin. And Tenzin loved her.
It was always Lin and Tenzin and Tenzin and Lin. There was never any room for Kya. And where would she fit into this immaculate pairing? She had watched the two of them fall in love over and over and deeper every time ever since they were still children after all.
Tenzin had a flirty smile on his lips: one she'd never seen him wear with Pema. It was refreshing to watch her brother happy and in love again- even if it was at her own expense. But what really got to Kya was the realization that hit her after her seventh drink that night. Her eyes had been on Lin's form since the moment she saw her in that pantsuit. She watched her every move- spirits, she only noticed Tenzin's glee because he was in her peripheral vision. For the life of her, she couldn't look away from her.
Kya took a big swallow of her eighth drink that Bumi graciously replaced in front of her. She almost would've gotten up to tell Lin everything when suddenly, a new feeling ensconced her heart.
The waterbender loved Lin so much that it didn't matter that she wasn't with her. As long as she was happy, she could be happy for her. It was the acceptance that came with a love so unconditional. She could love her from afar if that meant Lin would be happy with the person she grew up loving. That Tenzin loved her just as much as her if not more. Kya's bittersweet heart forced a teary smile on her face as Tenzin caught hold of Lin's hand and delicately kissed her palm.
Spirits if she wasn't the most beautiful soul on Air Temple Island that evening.

Are Jinora, Ikki, Meelo, and Rohan waterbenders in your AU?
Hey, that’s a really cool question! I didn’t even think about the possibility of Tenzin having kids in this universe (considering he’d be with Lin) but that’s a great idea

Kataang week day 5 - Power couple
I absolutely love this prompt for kataang, because they really are a power couple.
First off we have Aang… I mean it’s pretty obvious he’s the avatar. What makes him powerful though is that he deals with avatar duties while sticking to his morals.
Tumblr media
Now Katara… she often gets overlooked, but I firmly believe she is one of the most talented waterbenders. We see her waterbending get so much better in such a short time. Just with a little guidance she was able to improve quickly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not to mention she also knows how to heal, bloodbend and my favourite sweatbend.
These two icons make my favourite power couple.
Not to mention they also have a powerful family:
Bumi -> military commander and later on airbender
Kya -> master waterbender
Tenzin -> councilman, airbender mentor and instructor
Tumblr media
We also have the airbender kids
Jinora -> her special connection to the spirit world and it’s spirits
Tumblr media
Ikki, Meelo and Rohan are a bit young but still special nonetheless.

Note
Do you have a favorite baby or grandbaby of Katara and Aang's? (My favorites are Ikki and Bumi, but I like Kya a lot too.) Also, if you lived in the Avatar universe, what kind of bender would you be and what creature there would you choose as a pet/animal companion?
I think I like Bumi the most, or at least his potential. I like Jinora the most but Ikki in my headcanons seems the most interesting.
I would definitely be a waterbender and my pet would have to be able to fly, like a snowy owl 💙
