"I am normally a very private person, but I feel like I need to share my story. Two years ago today, I decided it was time to become an adult.  I decided that in order to become a better human being, I needed to give up something that for a long time helped to drown out all emotion and stuff anything that ever brought pain.  Ironically, it was the one thing that brought me the most pain and suffering.  It brought to me regret, anxiety, remorse, embarrassment, humiliation, insecurity, feelings that I wasn't good enough, ruined relationships, twisted my words in order to hurt another and brought out the absolute worst in me.  That thing was alcohol.  Two years ago today, I started to appreciate pain and how to heal it, I started to appreciate tears and how to let them flow, I started to appreciate my gut intuition, speaking the truth, integrity, self-esteem, selflessness, kindness, forgiveness, what it was like to truly be heard and to listen to others, to reach out when I need help, to help others, learning how not to judge, self care and how it feels to truly love yourself. I learned that through my father's death, my grandmother's death a week later and the loss of a beloved pet within that month, that my heart no longer needed a veil of alcohol to protect itself.  My father saw me as a sober woman, my grandmother, too, and most importantly my friends and my family see it today.  I have everything to be thankful for and close friends and family who loved me through my worst of times.  I am so thankful for this life and for my sober mind and heart and soul.  I am proud of myself today and look forward to who I am about to become.  I am so humbled and everyday I pray for continued strength and lessons to learn. "

Happy #TBT, with a photograph showing close-ups of individuals in downtown Muskegon. Unfortunately no date is listed, though it shows the Francis Jiroch Cigar Manufacturer as being located on 19 W. Western Ave. (south side of Western Ave. between Terrace St. and Jefferson St). As found in a periodical: "Francis Jiroch is a native of Austria...He came to Muskegon when a lad, and learned the cigar trade and started business for himself in 1866. "I was raised by two area artists and educators, and have always felt a connection to the personal stories that emerge in the collision with art and history. On an experiential learning course at Muskegon Community College, titled "the Art of the Civil War," I met professional sculptor Gary Casteel in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. After interacting with him at his General James Longstreet Sculpture, arguably the most controversial on the Gettysburg Battlefield, I wrote a letter requesting his consideration in taking me as an apprentice. Several months later, I would receive confirmation that Casteel thought this was a perfect time to teach his first student. Spending the summers of 2016, and 2017, living and learning the traditional bronze sculpture trade in Gettysburg. This experience has now led to the beginning of my career, as we approach the dedication of my first full-figure, life-size bronze sculpture of Clarence Zylman, Muskegon's Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, on November 10th, 2018, at the LST 393 Veterans Museum. "
