@caromitpunkt & @fallingforfandoms tagged me to list 9 of my favourite shows in no particular order, so that is what I'm doing :)
Tatort: let's be real, is anyone surprised
W817: my dad never wanted to let me watch this when I was younger because he thought it was dumb. This was the first show in which I saw a gay person represented though, so it will always have a special place in my heart (+ a few scenes of it were filmed not too far away from where I live so I thought that was pretty cool)
Downton Abbey: I'm a biiiiit of a sucker for period dramas and loved watching this together with my family. Should probably do a rewatch at some point
The Crown
Derry Girls: Okay so I haven't watched the last season yet (should probably get on that) but I did love the first two seasons
Call the Midwife: again, did not see much more than the first two seasons, but this series made me feel so tender (the books also do an incredible job at that, definitely recommend as well)
Die Sendung mit der Maus: it's just the cutest thing (the intro in another language gives me life every single time) and honestly it's doing wonders for my vocabulary in German which isn't crime-related 🐭
Lewis: yes another crime show, whoops. Watched a lot of this with my mum (my dad was banned because he kept guessing the killer halfway through) which is why this is another favourite
Because This is my First Life (이번 생은 처음이라)
While compiling this I realised I don't actually tend to watch many TV series anymore 😅

Rewatching an old tv show I watched as a kid and it just really surprises me what was allowed on tv.
The show is called W817 (which would translate to wait a minute). It started airing in 1999 on a kids channel in my country 🇧🇪. First episode in and we already establish that one of the girls loves to go out all the time, one guy is clearly autistic coded, one guy is canonically gay, there's a girl that loves sex and well the rest. It's just about these new adults living together and doing crap together. They're either college students or recently began working.
What fascinates me is that I only found out one of the main characters was gay later in life. It isn't a hidden thing or so. It's mentioned a lot and he even has a boyfriend. Just somewhere in my brain I never excluded him as a different. He was just Steve and Steve liked guys. I never questioned that as a kid and I guess that's how I ended up forgetting until I heard about this show again.
Anyways point of this is that kids can handle gay characters in their media.

Een tijdje geleden hoorden we van het nieuws dat de Vlaamse jeugdserie een film zou krijgen: 8eraf. Wat bleek? De domeinnaam (url) 8eraf.be was nog vrij. 5 minuutjes werk en enkele euro’s later waren we de baas van die url. Gelukkig voor W817 hadden we enkel de intentie de url terug te geven. In 2017 verzamelde quasi de hele cast van de legendarische Ketnet-reeks ‘W817’ voor een kleine act tijdens de throwback thursday in het Sportpladijs. Dat onze generatie deze helden nog lang niet vergeten waren en de absurde songteksten van toen nog steeds kunnen meezingen werd toen heel duidelijk, en al snel doken in de wandelgangen geruchten en dromen voor een heuse W817-film op.

ok but IMAGINE growing up w this tv show as ur main children’s tv show.. princess w big curly hair and a blue dress.. farmer boy who loves her... king who’s silly in how bossy he is... the fact that the princess has a SWING as her throne next to her parents’ thrones like what more could u POSSIBLY want
