Fox stares down at his feet; the naked, bony truth of them. Heels cradled by damp sand, and toes lapped at by froth-tipped waves. He stares and thinks: Oh. I get it.

There’s excited voices all around him, but Fox feels removed from it all. There’s something… Intangible, in this moment. In the feel of bubbles moving between his toes. In the soft play of wind through his curls. Something that unfurls in his chest and flows into all the empty spaces Coruscant had dug into him.

En toen gingen we toch één keertje echt kamperen, omdat kamperen in de huiskamer maar een halve voorbereiding is. We kozen Hemelvaartsdag, omdat ons dat wel zo goed uitkwam. Maar na een rondje bellen langs de Noord-Hollandse campings, bleek dat wij niet de enigen waren, die dit weekend goed uitkwam. Alles zat vol, werkelijk alles, op één mini-camping in Wormer na, de Swarthoeve.

Hemelsbreed nog geen kilometer bij mijn huis vandaan. (Wat reuze handig bleek, toen ik vergeten was om de pasta in te pakken voor het avondeten). En dat is dus een hartstikke leuke camping, daar gaan we beslist nog eens naar toe! Het stikt er van de kikkers en de weidevogels en dat merkten we. In de nacht was het een gekwaak van jewelste, onder aanvoering van één kikker. Die begon telkens met een duidelijk onderscheiden kwaak, kwaak, waarna de hele sloot inviel met een soort kelig gereutel. Maar zodra de voorzanger zijn mond hield, deed de rest er ook het zwijgen toe. En al voor het aanbreken van de dag lieten de weidevogels van zich horen. De grutto's haal je er zo tussenuit, want die roepen hun eigen naam. Van wie de andere geluiden waren, vraagt nog enige studie.

Het nieuwe kooksetje van Primus bevalt prima, maar ik ga wel grotere gastankjes kopen. Ik heb nu drie tankjes van 100 gram propaan/butaan-mix. Na weging blijkt dat je met eten koken en twee keer water koken voor koffie en thee zo 50 gram gas verstookt. Dan kan ik beter twee blikken van 230 gram meenemen of eentje van 450 gram. Dan heb je voor een week genoeg en is wel voldoende gelegenheid om tussendoor een nieuw blik in te slaan.

Wat ook een goede aanschaf lijkt, zijn twee extra dry-sacks van Ortlieb voor de slaapzakken. Die nieuwe donzen slaapzakken zijn zo groot, dat je er een hele achtertas mee vult. Dan kun je ze beter achterop binden, maar dan moeten ze natuurlijk wel in een 100% waterdichte zak. De slaapzakken zelf bleken een goede aanschaf, het was 's nachts acht graden, maar ook zonder pyamabroek kon ik nog slapen. Overigens gaat die wel mee, want het zal nog wel kouder worden dan dat, verwacht ik zo.

Tot slot ziet u twee happy campers in the morning. Hou deze foto even in gedachten om te zien of we eind juni binnen de poolcirkel ook nog zo lachen.

4. favourite dish specific for your country?

I used to want to eat andijviestamppot for my birthday until i was like 12😭 which is mashed potatoes, andives, bacon bits and gravy. I also had some really great hutspot recently at my great aunt's, which is a similar mashed potato type dish. Similarly, hachee is the best!

But stuff you can wake me up for are bitterkoekjes (sort of similar to the Italian amaretto, but more cookie/brownie like in texture), a good ol' broodje hagelslag (a slice of bread with chocolate sprinkles), and a kapsalon (fries with shoarma, cheese, salads and garlic sauce)

The first thing that came to my mind was "HOUD JE BEK" (Shut up), ahh, kinderen voor kinderen you still run in my blood. Anyway, this is quite a difficult question, let me think.

Voorpret: which means something along the lines of "experiencing pleasure because you know you are going to do something fun soon". If you're going to the zoo tomorrow and you're excited, you're experiencing voorpret.

Troostzoeker: it means "comfort seeker/ someone who seeks comfort", but i feel like the Dutch word holds something that's innately pathethic and almost forlorn? Like a baby duck without it's mother but quacking loudly, still in search for her.

Uitzinnig: which means delirious, demented, out of your mind/senses, insane.

16. which stereotype about your country you hate the most and which one you somewhat agree with?

I already answered this but I have more, though it's more hatred towards tourists but; I dislike it when people visit Amsterdam and think that's representative of the country. Amsterdam is batshit crazy and ridiculous! There are great museums, but I would recommend to visit Haarlem or Leiden too. Waaaay less busy, though arguably still busy cities, same gorgeous architecture, churches, museums.

We do love our cheese (but I don't 😙✌)

“Let’s go somewhere where the stars kiss the ocean”

I feel like Voorpret would be someone who gets lost in his thoughts often (This drawing sorta portrays this). I went for a sad vibe at first, but the more I thought about it, the less sad it became. It morphed into a more bittersweet vibe than anything. This is shortly after the fall of the Republic when Lee was reported KIA, and Voorpret began loosing himself. Through the year following the collapse, Voorpret held onto the hope that somehow his lover had survived. Constant dreams of falling into a deep ocean enveloped his mind each night, but no matter how far he sunk into the depths he would never drown. The light shining through and the wisps are a resemblance of Lee’s mind, and her dreams tying in with Voorpret’s. I guess they also represent his grief because he blames himself for her death when he knew he couldn’t have done anything to stop the order. Lee knows Voorpret is alive, but Voorpret doesn’t know Lee is too. Despite their many trials in their love, they stayed true to one another and never gave up searching for one another. After a long year of searching they finally reunite, thus beginning a new chapter of their lives. Lil Aurora, or Ari as her mum calls her, comes along in that said chapter.

Woensdag 20 maart jl. was een heerlijke, zonnige dag voor de kinderen van Zuidpolder om Boomfeestdag te vieren, bij de watergang aan de zuidgrens van Zuidpolder in Eemnes. Bomen in Zuidpolder Het geriefbosje is langs het water uitgebreid met een fladderiep, zomerlinde en ruwe berk. Bomen die met hun geurende bloemen, vruchten of ruwe bast veel insecten en dus ook vogels aantrekken. Bij de bouw van project Zuidpolder is zorgvuldig het geriefbosje in stand gehouden; een historisch landschappelijk element. Vroeger stond er bij alle boerderijen zo’n bosje, waar het hakhout vandaan kwam voor gebruik in en rond het huis of bijvoorbeeld hout voor bezemstelen. Regenwormen De kinderen hielpen met veel griezelende pret wethouder Theo Reijn met het uitstrooien van regenwormen bij de net geplante bomen. Regenwormen zijn ijverige tunnelbouwers en graven tot wel 3 meter diep. Voedingsstoffen komen door de wormengangen diep in de grond en bomen en planten nestelen hierin ook hun wortels. Zo kunnen planten en bomen goed groeien en bloeien. De gangetjes lopen vol wanneer het regent. In droge tijden kunnen planten en bomen fijn gebruik maken van die wateropslag. Educatie Wethouder Theo Reijn: ‘Boomfeestdag is elk jaar weer een feestelijk moment om ook de kinderen te betrekken bij de natuur in de wijk. Dit jaar leerden ze dat regenwormen heel nuttig zijn. Dat was best wel eng zo’n handje zand vol met krioelende wormen.’ Om het leerelement om een leuke manier te versterken, kregen de kinderen geurige tijm- en bieslookplantjes mee. Leuk om thuis te planten, te verzorgen én om mee te koken. Dorpse gezelligheid Als voorpret richting Boomfeestdag hadden de kinderen Boomfeestdag-kleurplaten gemaakt die zij enthousiast bij wethouder Reijn inleverden. Voor de mooiste tekeningen in 3 leeftijdscategorieën volgt er een prijs. Niet alleen de kinderen hadden een gezellige middag, ook hun (groot)ouders en toekomstige bewoners van Zuidpolder maakten van de gelegenheid gebruik met elkaar kennis te maken.

India: voorpret

In de Volkskrant staat een fotorapportage over zoete eetgewoontes in India. Het is een verzameling aan beelden die gemaakt zijn op officiële gelegenheden, van stemmige gedenkbijeenkomsten tot feestelijke examenvieringen, met als gemene deler dat er met enige dwang ronde zoete balletjes in mensen hun mond worden geduwd. Het ziet er onsmakelijk en onprettig uit, en volgens het onderschrift is dit wat je aan de lopende band kan verwachten.

Ik leg dat stellige bericht aan onze vriendin voor, die ons direct geruststelt dat dit een ouderwets gebruik is, en ons ook het toverwoord weet te vertellen om in een Hindoestaans gezelschap op verantwoorde wijze zoetigheden af te slaan: 'I am watching my sugar'.

Voor alles dat we vooraf willen regelen voor onze reis, moeten we een verzameling kafkaësk slecht functionerende websites het hoofd bieden. Het kost veel geduld maar uiteindelijk kunnen we met een visum, een paar voorgeboekte treintickets en een hostel voor de eerste paar nachten op reis.

In de nacht voor we vertrekken worden we gepiepeld door een taxichauffeur in ons eigen Amsterdam. Hij doet alsof er een misverstand is ontstaan over rijden op de meter en na een onaangename rit met veel gebekvecht geven we ons gewonnen. Oefenen voor vertrek zit er niet meer in, dan maar leren on the job.

6-5 Voorpret is alles

Als je iets gaat ondernemen, waar een flinke voorbereidingstijd aan vast zit, kom je vanzelf in aanraking met geloof en bijgeloof. Je hoopt immers op het slagen van je onderneming en probeert zoveel mogelijk te doen, dat daaraan bijdraagt. En dat leidt soms tot conflicten tussen rede en gevoel. Misschien herken je dat wel.

Een voorbeeld. Mijn oude pakriemen worden dun en rafelig, dus ik kocht nieuwe. Dat ligt in de rede. Maar nu twijfel ik, die oude riemen hebben me sinds 2015 zo goed bijgestaan, is het nu wel verstandig om ze te vervangen door iets nieuws? Dat voelt niet goed. Roep ik geen onheil over mezelf af, door het oude dat mij zo goed gediend heeft, zomaar in te wisselen voor iets nieuws? Een onzinnige redenering natuurlijk, die ik onmiddellijk verwerp, maar in mijn achterhoofd weet ik dat in het onwaarschijnlijke geval dat zo'n riem het toch begeeft, dat ik dan meteen zal denken, zie je wel!

Een ander punt is dat inmiddels de halve Zaanstreek weet dat ik naar Noorwegen ga fietsen. Zelfs wildvreemde mensen, nou ja, mensen die ik ooit wel eens ergens ontmoet heb, spreken mij er op aan. Kortom, deze onderneming mag niet meer falen en dat legt een druk op mij, sterker nog, dat roept tegenslagen op, dat kan niet anders. Ik lig er soms 's nachts wakker van, stel dat ik last krijg van mijn knie, = ik krijg griep of mijn fiets begeeft het, wat doe ik dan? Hoe haal ik dan mijn deadline in Tromsö? Een stukje met de trein of de boot is uitgesloten, dan kan ik me niet meer in de Zaanstreek vertonen. Ik hoor ze nu al roepen, daar heb je die praatjesmaker uit Amsterdam weer. Dus dan wordt het of tegen de klippen op doorfietsen of verhuizen. En dat laatste wil ik helemaal niet, ik voel me hier juist zo thuis.

Enfin, je begrijpt dat naarmate de dag van vertrek nadert (nu nog 14 dagen om precies te zijn) de spanning stijgt en vreugde van het naderend pensioen plaats maakt voor faalangstige gedachten.

2960 Festivalmuntjes

Het was een weekend zonder weerga. We hadden al weken voorpret en kaartjes en in de aanloop zagen we overal de bewegwijzering uit de grond schieten. Het Buiten de Dijken Festival op het Hemmeland had ons hart al gestolen voordat er een noot gespeeld was.
