Volvo EM90, 2023. An electric premium MPV, the first from the Swedish firm, for the Chinese market. The EM90 provides a range of up to 738 kilometres under the CLTC testing cycle. It is fitted with a 116 kWh battery with a charging time from 10 to 80 per cent in under 30 minutes. It share components with sister company Zeekr's 009 MPV.

Sold my Audi. Do I regret it? Nope. I'm feeling much betther without it. Till I not get a new Volvo what I'm going to get istead, I'll drive that older V70. This one isn't that bad in driving, even though I haven't been using a manual gearbox for months.

you know green thumbs? And how people who are shit with plants have black thumbs? I am that but for cars….
#so after an oil leak after last driving our bus#the bus now has a completely drained battery which means I can’t drive him to the mechanic#(which also means I won’t get my train back to university town)#((which means I am kind of fucked with regards to public transportation))#but my dad had the glorious idea to just tow the car to get it to start#which didn’t work when I was in the bus#so he had me drive the Volvo#which (and I cannot stress this enough) is a very terrible idea#I am a shit driver by any metric and you do not want me to tow a car with a towrope#that was bound to go wrong#so after attempt 1 (failed spectacularly; almost crashed twice) I got out to tell my dad that I am not qualified to tow#but my dad (the fool) goes nah you’ll be fine#so now I have not only destroyed the Volvos handbrakes (two years ago; the car started smoking)#I have also destroyed the clutch (two hours ago; not smoking but smelling very much like very burnt rubber)#and the bus’ battery is charging at a power outlet as it should’ve from the beginning#and any chance for relaxed six hours traveling back to my apartment are gone#I am lucky if I’ll still get to my apartment today#and I am spending a lot of time not thinking about the pink elephant (how much money a new car will cost)#bc the Volvo (while being the trustiest car imaginable) has over 400.000 km on his back#and keeping him going is cheap as long as he doesn’t have issues but now….

What a difference 21 years makes juxtaposition of Volvo XC90, 2002 & Volvo EX90, 2023. Volvo have revealed their new generation electric SUV as the next step in their strategy to become an all-electric brand by 2030. The EX90 has a dual-motor, all-wheel drive drivetrain that provides a range of 600 km (373 miles). There will be two versions with 408hp and 510hp. The current XC90 will be revised and remain in production for those who still require an internal combustion engine

License Plates Day
License Plates Day is celebrated on April 25 to celebrate the first-ever issued license plate in the U.S. in 1901. Prior to this, there was no official marking or designation on any vehicle. The lack of acknowledgment hurt the vehicle owners because horses and carriages had more rights, and they could be denied access to roads. With the passage of the law, New York became the first state to issue a license plate on vehicles, and the trend was swiftly picked up by the entire West Coast states. Today, there are more than 250 million registered vehicles in the country, and each of them has a unique number plate.
History of License Plates Day
It’s amazing to think that today’s norms are yesterday’s discoveries. It wasn’t until the 20th century that someone thought of distinguishing vehicles on the basis of number plates. In 1901, New York Governor Benjamin Odell Jr. signed a new bill into a law that required motor vehicle owners to be registered with the state. Initially, the bill included directions about the design of the plate, which were later scrapped after the big automobile boom of the ‘50s. Individuals could design their own plates, as long as the characters were three inches high. On May 2, 1901, George F. Chamberlain became the first person to receive a license plate for his vehicle. A week after the law came into effect on April 25, 17 people had already applied for licenses. Within a year, the number of license plates in America climbed up to 1,566.
Although individually marking vehicles at the time came at a cost and effort to both authorities and citizens, it was also a relief. Without proper marking or acknowledgment, vehicle owners were harassed by laws that differed in each state. The U.S. took its lead from the Netherlands and France, which started a national database for license plates in the early 1890s.
License plate historian Keith Marvin notes that the license plate fashion parade was a spectacle of the past, with owners resorting to the use of metal, leather, and even wood to adorn their plates. The license plating took a turn from the initials of the owner to state numerals as their numbers increased. Subsequently, the state took over the issuance, designing, and database of license plates. On April 25, people take their cars for a stroll and display their unique plates in pride. License plate exhibitions are held across the country, and passionate souls come together to share their love for the interesting history of license plates.
