Hafsa bint al-Hajj al-Rakuniya (c.1135-1191)
She is perhaps one of the most celebrated Andalusian female poets of medieval Arabic literature. Her father was a wealthy Berber from Granada, so we may assume she grew up in luxury and received an excellent education. By the time the Almohads wrested the rule of Al-Andalus from the Almoravids, she had already started a love affair with the Governor’s secretary and her fellow poet Abu Ja'far Ahmad ibn Sa’id. From the evidence of both her poetry and his, it seems that she instigated the relationship and continued to visit him openly, despite the far stricter morality of the new Almohad rulers. Sometime around 1160, Abu Ja'far joined a rebellion against his employer, Abd al-Mu’min, governor of Granada. In 1163, he was captured and executed. Many knew and respected Hafsa as a teacher. Indeed, one of her colleagues described her as the most noteworthy teacher of her time. Her students were numerous and after the death of Abu Ja'far, she traveled widely. In the end she wound up in Marrakesh in Morocco, where the Almohad Caliph Abu Yusuf Yaqub al-Mansur engaged her to teach his daughters. She would remain there for the rest of her life.
Tumblr media

wip wednesday
thank you @greypetrel for the tag! i finally have something to share after taking a short break from fic to work on something original. here’s the beginning of a cullen pov chapter of my as yet untitled treasure hunter au:
..
It takes them almost a week to get to base camp after the plane has landed in Marrakesh, an arduous journey from the lush city into the barren desert, the sand so orange it looks almost like the mountains of spices lining roadside carts and stalls in the city. Cullen hasn’t left England since the war, has barely even set foot outside of London except for the occasional visit to his sister in the country. He marvels at the perfect blue sky overhead, not a single cloud in sight to offer even the thinnest of shadows to hide under. The sun is more white than yellow. The windows of their cars are rolled all the way down, and the air that whips past is heavy with heat, like opening an oven in the middle of baking something.
His crew, a team of four men hand selected from his various tours during the war, are spread across the caravan trekking through the sand, one in each car. He can hear their chatter through the radio on his hip, sporadically cutting in and out of the rushing wind and the sound of the engine. After glancing in the car’s side mirror to check the road behind them, the cars in perfect formation, he turns the radio down and watches the waves of sand pass by.
In the rear view mirror, he can see Petra dozing with her head against the window, and the historian Dorian dozing with his head on her shoulder. Through their various stops on their way to base camp, he has barely seen her stop moving, even when he himself has laid down in his tent for fitful sleep. She buzzes from person to person, task to task, always moving so quickly that he has barely had time to actually see her outside of that conversation on the plane. Now, he looks into the mirror and scans her face. She looks younger in sleep, her face utterly relaxed, mouth slightly open, her dark hair coming out from its long braid that falls over her shoulder and trails out the window beside her. Something in his chest gives a tug, like he’s being yanked out of the car but he isn’t even moving. He looks away, back out at the ocean of sand they’re cutting through, the tires of the car bouncing over the ancient road.
..
tagging @hannahmationstudios @zenstrike @samseabxrn @theluckywizard anyone else who would like to share!

Materials I use for Journaling
(And whether or not I recommend them)
As a note I have also linked where you can find all the items (some might be unavailable btw)
Journals
Zelda Hyrule Map Journal - Do not recommend. I spent a whole week trying to find the perfect Zelda themed journal and this one really fell flat. The pages are super thin so even my EnerGel Pens bleed through. The binding of the pages is also super weak and I've had to glue pages together and I am in constant fear of this journal completely falling apart T_T
Vivid Scribbles Journal - Recommend! Although the outside fabric cover isn't my favorite, it is a very strong journal. I purposefully spent time looking for a journal with thick/non-bleed pages, strong binding, and more than 100 pages. As a bonus it also comes with dotted pages to help organize the pages better and stickers (although they aren't the best). A good starter journal you don't have to worry about.
If you live in the EU, a preorder Nintendo Shop bonus for TOTK is a Zelda journal. I won't be able to own this and therefore can't rate it but if you really want a Zelda themed journal, there's an option!
Stickers
Legend of Zelda Sticker Book - Highly recommend! Has stickers for all of the 3D Zelda games and is perfect for journaling. The stickers don't have the best adhesive quality but they do stick well to journal paper.
Daiso Stickers - Highly Recommend! Daiso is a Japanese general store that can only be found in certain cities but if you have one near you I absolutely recommend visiting. They have most of my favorite journaling supplies and the largest selection of them too. Here are the ones that I use that are available online: Food and Rewards
Artist Stickers - Highly Recommend! Some of my absolute favorite stickers come from my favorite artists both from their online shops and from zines. Check out Etsy, Redbubble, or the artist's social media to find stickers that you like (and also support your faves)!
List of artist stores I have bought stickers from (that are not from zines): KellCar, Blibloop, GoodLuckGojira, Freaquinn, TossedLeaf, MaridoodlesShop, TheLittleBirdeeCo, NoodlesAndTeaShop, CalithArt, QuoteUnquoteCo, CRFArtStore, ComstockCafe, Mojgonv , ArcaneGoldArt, Ozlisky, Kelia, halmistax, astarsor
Sticky Notes/Background Paper
Daiso Sticky Notes - LOVE these. The colors are a lot more muted but nice. The paper itself is also very smooth so many adhesives do stick to it. I highly recommend if you live near a Daiso, if not here are the ones I use but online: Blue, Pink, and Yellow
Post It Notes (Marrakesh Collection) - I really like the bold color of these specific Post-It notes but I do have an issue with the paper quality. The paper is on the topside rough and only very strong adhesives adhere to it, sometimes the tape runners won't even adhere. The Zekda stickerbook Stickers won't even stick, they just fall off. So I love the colors but the quality of the paper itself is pretty frustrating, so just be cautious if you buy Post-It notes.
Color Palette Sticky - These are mini sticky notes in a specific color palette! This listing has multiple palettes as well, I personally just bought the palette linked. The paper is smooth so stickers and tape adhere well to it! They're a good purchase if you want more color diversity (or you need a good Zelda color palette lol).
Daiso Paper Sheets - A good color variety with medium sized sheets! I really like these. The colors are more pastel and come in the rainbow. The paper quality is similar to construction paper but smaller and thinner, so they are designed more for journals. Adhesives also stick well and they aren't as rough as Post-It Notes. I enjoy these!
I also have Mushroom Sticky Tabs from Daiso that aren't online (I also got them about a year ago so they might not be in stock). Here's a similar product from amazon. I haven't used them before so I cannot give my opinion on them but I wanted to give y'all an alternate if you like it!
Washi Tape
Daiso Washi Tape - Daiso has my all time favorite washi tape. The tape is very strong and has strong adhesive. They also have a really large selection of tape in store, however the online selection is very lacking. I highly recommend going to Daiso if you have one near you as they have my favorite stationary stock. Here's a few of the washi tape I have that I could find online (the rest isn't online): Rainbow Thin, White Lace, Wind Series, and Red
Michaels- The quality of the tape is not as good as Daiso (the tape is strong but the adhesive is weak) but they do have fun designs. The selection in stores is not great but they have a very large online selection. The specific blue and gold lantern recollections tape I use isn't online (I found it in store).
Gold Foil Cool Tones Washi Tape - Really nice!! The designs are absolutely gorgeous.; The adhesive could be stronger but it's not as much as a problem unless you're using it on top of the post-it (brand) sticky notes. I got these specifically for my Zelda journal and they fit the games super well!
Minimalist/Knit Washi Tape - I don't really like these. They're very transparent (which wasn't advertised) and I just don't like a lot of the designs. They have good tape and adhesive quality if you like the designs but they just aren't for me.
Washi Tape Dispenser Cutter - I'm a fan of these! There's many different types of tape dispensers so I recommend choosing the one that you like, these are the ones I liked after some searching. They cut your tape and all the dispensers stack on each other. They also hold between 5-14 tape rolls depending on size. If you plan on getting a collection of washi tape, dispensers or at least a container is a pretty good investment.
Journaling/Sticker Tweezers
Sizzix - Honestly any brand will do fine so long as you are looking for specific journal tweezers and not hygiene tweezers. I highly recommend getting them if you want to get into journaling or scrapbooking or even just have a sticker collection. They prevent you from damaging your stationary especially if they are hard to peel and you have more control of where you want to place things than with your fingers. They're also relatively cheap and they're very durable, the Sizzix brand works great!
Pens/Markers
EnerGel - I LOVE EnerGel. I have tested so many different pens in college and it wasn't until I graduated that I found the perfect pens LMAO. They write very smooth, they come in a really nice variety of colors, and they last a long time. They also don't bleed and very rarely skip, so the ink quality is really nice. I highly recommend them!
Tombow (Muted Palette)- I absolutely love these. They're water based markers and they do layer over themselves but the quality is really nice. I am also just a fan of the Tombow brand. I mostly have these for my sketchbooks rather than journaling but they are nice to use for my spreads. If you want to use markers similar to these but cheaper you can just use some reliable crayola markers!
Sharpie Metallic - I am a fan of these but you do have to take precaution with these. First they will bleed through most paper, only heavy weight paper (160gsm or more) will withstand it (although there is a shadow of bleed). Second, they MUST be stored upside down. If right-side up, the ink will flow to the bottom and your sharpie will appear dry when it still has full ink. They last a long time if taken care of properly so I do recommend!
Highlighters (Sharpie) - Good! They are just standard highlighters and any brand will probably work just as well as sharpie. If you have any from school I recommend just using those.
Adhesive Tape Runners
Tombow Adhesive Runner - Highly recommend! They are a bit pricey but they are very good quality. I rarely, if ever, have jamming issues and the tape works super well. If you're willing to splurge, I suggest them over Adtech. Here's the link to refills.
AdTech Adhesive Runner - Recommend. Cheaper than Tombow and they work but they definitely have more quality issues. The tape itself can jam frequently which was frustrating and the tape is more acidic so I could see the tape leave dark marks on my thinner journal paper. I only switched to Tombow because my local store ran out of Adtech so I got Tombow and just didn't look back but they are completely usable and fine. (I also haven't been able to find refills on amazon which is what also made me switch to Tombow)
Also as a note!! When ordering adhesive runners, make sure it says permanent as there are different types of runners (glue dots, temporary, permanent, archival, etc)
I will also edit this post if I get more materials.
Feel free to ask any questions! And remember you don't need all of these supplies to journal. You just need some paper and a pen!

Anita Pallenberg and Brian Jones - Morocco in 1966
© Cecil Beaton
"It was Christopher Gibbs who first introduced Brian and Anita to Morocco. They would accompany the antiques dealer when he visited Tangier or Marrakesh to buy carpets, fabrics and curios for his Chelsea shop. In Tangier, they would stay at the exquisite Hotel Minzah and spend days with Gibbs in the Grand Socco bazaar, wandering through the noisy labyrinths striped over by a latticework of sun. At nigh they ate kebabs and couscous, and watched the acrobats and silver-hung belly dancers, taking turns to draw on a bubbling hookah of dunglike tobacco mingled with the more fragrant ancient Eastern substance which Moroccans were only just learning to call ‘shit’.
Morocco affected Brian Jones more profoundly than anything since he had first heard Elmore James. It was not just the hashish, jetted up through a hookah or smouldering in the bowl of an intricately carved pipe. It was not just the clothes, caftans, djellabahs, cloaks and waistcoats, beaded with glass or silver, which Anita and he bought by the trunkful, along with cushions, footstools, copperware, gold and beaten metal lamps for their new studio apartment. In Morocco, Brian found a country whose daily life, both spiritual and secular, is indivisible from music. He was fascinated to see, in Tangier’s Grand Socco, in the green and white ceramic city of Fez, especially in the great red clay marketplace at Marrakesh, musicians playing subtle and delicate thousand-year-old Berber melodies on pipes and drums that were the natural descant to trade, conversation, worship and argument. From Brion Gysin he heard of the master musicians of Jajouka, in the foothills of the Rif mountains, whose pipe music, dating from before Islam, had so affected Gysin he swore he could not let even a day pass without hearing it again. Brian had begged Gysin to take him to Jajouka to hear the master musicians and, possibly, learn something from them about making records with the Stones.
Christopher Gibbs remembers that summer 1966 trip chiefly for the constant bickering between Brian and Anita. ‘They fought about everything – cars, prices, restaurant menus. Brian could never win an argument with Anita, although he always made the mistake of trying. There would be terrible scenes with both of them screaming at each other. The difference was that Brian didn’t know what he was doing. Anita did know what she was doing. I think that in a more gracious age, Anita would have been called a witch.’" - Stones-Acclaimed-Biography

Bucket List Travel: The Top 50 Places In The World
Tumblr media
According to a new survey, Bali is the top bucket list destination in the world.Getty
The website surveyed its 1.5 million-strong social audience in order to determine the best bucket list places around the world. According to Sarah Clayton-Lea, head of content with Big 7 Travel, this is the first time the site has assembled this list. "Bucket list travel was a trend that popped up again and again in previous surveys when asking our readers what sort of travel content they most enjoyed consuming," says Clayton-Lea. "So, our curiosity got the better of us and we wanted to know which destinations people are dreaming of for 2019/2020."
READ MORE: "Why You Should Skip Iceland And Go To These 9 Under-the-Radar Places"
The results of the world’s top 50 bucket list destinations include some of the most beautiful places on earth. "White sandy beaches are still a must-visit for many, with vibrant cities also making an appearance on a lot of people’s bucket lists," says Clayton-Lea. Countries with naturally beautiful scenery and world-famous landmarks came out on top: 22% of the destinations on the list have white sandy beaches, while 52% are iconic cities.
The famously colorful Bo Kaap neighborhood in Cape Town, South Africa.Getty
In the study, Big 7 Travel found that people were also more likely to add a destination to their list if they had seen it on social media, and 33% of people research vacation destinations on their Instagram feed. "With over one-third of our readers saying they look to Instagram for travel inspiration, it makes sense that cities with colorful neighborhoods (such as Cape Town’s Bo Kaap) made the cut," says Clayton-Lea.
Bali topped the list of the 50 most popular bucket list destination on earth, but there were also some unexpected picks. "The top 10 list has a lot of the expected dream destinations, but there are a few surprises on the list: Paro Valley in Bhutan, for example, or Virunga National Park in the Congo," says Clayton-Lea. "I think this shows a great appetite for a need to get off the grid and can only assume that social media (and Netflix, in the case of Virunga!) is responsible for spreading the word of these amazing places."
An interesting factoid uncovered in the study: Most people have an average bucket list of just 11 places, with the hope of visiting seven of those locations during their lifetime. Read on for the top 50 bucket list destinations in the world and what Big 7 Travel had to say about each one.
Overlooking the jungle on one of Bali's highly Instagrammed swings.Getty
1. Bali, Indonesia: "You’ll find beaches, volcanoes, Komodo dragons and jungles sheltering elephants, orangutans and tigers. Basically, it’s paradise. It’s likely you’ve seen an image of Bali on social media at least once in the past seven days, as it’s such a popular bucket list destination for 2019."
2. New Orleans: "The lively city known for its street music, festive vibe and a melting pot of French, African and American cultures is well worth the trip. NOLA is a city packed with adventures at every turn and should be on everyone’s must-visit list."
3. Kerry, Ireland:" All the way west in Ireland is one of the country’s most scenic counties. Kerry’s mountains, lakes and coasts are postcard-perfect, and that’s before you add in Killarney National Park. The unique small towns such as Dingle add to its charm."
El Badi Palace in the Marrakesh medina.Getty
4. Marrakesh, Morocco: "This ancient walled city is home to mosques, palaces and lush gardens. It’s known as The Red City thanks to the color of the brick walls surrounding the city. The medina is a UNESCO World Heritage Centre."
5. Sydney: "Sydney is known around the world as one of the greatest and most iconic cities on the planet. Amazing things to do aren’t hard to find; the city has gorgeous beaches, great cafes and world-class entertainment on offer wherever you look."
6. The Maldives: "This tropical nation in the Indian Ocean is made up of more than 1,000 coral islands. It’s home to some of the world’s most luxurious hotel resorts, with white sandy beaches, underwater villas and restaurants and bright blue waters."
7. Paris, France: "One of the most iconic cities in the world, Paris tops many people’s bucket lists. You’ll see so many famous landmarks here: the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame cathedral—the list is never-ending."
8. Cape Town, South Africa: "Cape Town is a dream location to visit: endless natural beauty and clifftop views, pastel pink neighborhoods and turquoise waters."
9. Dubai, U.A.E.: "The high-flying city of the U.A.E, Dubai is one of the most glamorous destinations you’ll ever visit, and is particularly popular with Big 7 Travel readers."

10. Bora Bora, French Polynesia: "Bora Bora is Tahiti's most famous island. How do overwater bungalows and underwater adventures sound to you? To us, it’s everything we could want from a bucket list destination."
11. New York: "New York is one of America’s most exciting states. With charming upstate scenery, world-class cuisine and culture and more things to do than you could fit in one lifetime. The city’s five boroughs all have special features; it’s almost impossible to narrow it down"
12. Dubrovnik, Croatia: "As George Bernard Shaw once said, 'Those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik.' With its winding streets, cliffside beach bars and UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Old Town, it’s no wonder Dubrovnik is such a popular spot."

13. Edinburgh, Scotland: "With the historic Edinburgh castle looming over the city, culture in spades and wonderfully friendly locals, this is one of the world’s greatest city breaks."
14. Rome, Italy: "Whether it’s your first time in Rome or your 50th, the best thing about this city is that you’ll always discover something new each time you stroll the scenic streets."
15. Paro Valley, Bhutan: Paro Valley is known for its monasteries, fortresses (or dzongs) and dramatic landscapes. Tucked between China and India, Bhutan is a mysterious country that prides itself on sustainable tourism. You’ll find Paro Taktsang here, a Himalayan Buddhist sacred site."

16. Jaipur, India: "Jaipur is known as the ‘Pink City’ for its pale terracotta buildings. This was originally done to impress the visiting Prince Albert during his 1876 tour of India by order of the Maharaja (Sawai Ram Singh). Even today, it’s illegal to paint buildings any other color."
17. Waikato, New Zealand: "Waikato, a region in New Zealand’s North Island, is home to massive underground caves, lush rainforest and the buzzy city of Hamilton. But the area’s main attraction? A Middle-earth adventure on the film set of Lord of the Rings. Hobbiton Movie Set still has the original Hobbit holes from the making of the films."
18. Havana, Cuba: "Cuba’s capital is almost 500 years old and a riot of color. Brightly painted buildings and vintage cars make Havana a photogenic dream."

19. Tokyo, Japan: "Visiting Tokyo is like visiting the future—flashing neon lights, incredible technology—yet there’s still a rich sense of culture and history."
20. Antarctica: "Earth’s southernmost continent, Antarctica is a once-in-a-lifetime destination. Nowhere else can compare with the extreme remoteness of this snowy place. It’s not an easy trip to make, but you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the white wilderness, icy sea kayaking and whale sightings."
21. Vancouver, Canada: "Vancouver is surrounded by water yet close to the mountains and has world-class art, restaurants and heaps of other attractions to keep you entertained."

Guess I had a good start writing-wise: I wrote 21,687 words in January!
Didn't publish all of them, but four fics with together 16,098 words is still not too bad for a busy month. 😀
All four fics were for challenges, too, which is a funny coincidence, but also maybe the reason I wrote so many words. Deadlines really help. They're also all rather explicit, hehe.
Links and details under the cut!

Explicit, Porn With Plot, Jealousy, Cocktail Party
New Year's Eve in Paris is one of the most romantic experience for any couple. Except, Diana and 47 aren't a couple. They haven't even planned on pretending to be one. Both have business to attend to, but that doesn't mean they can't try to find pleasure in what they're doing—until the party turns from sweet to sour.
Tumblr media
Explicit, Mission Fic, Porn With Plot, Sex Clubs, Aphrodisiac
A contract requires Diana Burnwood and Agent 47 to find their target in a nightclub during its infamous "Frivolous Fables" sex party. Thanks to their masks, it should be easy for them to blend in; but without knowing, Diana makes it even easier.

Explicit, Porn With Plot, Mission Fic, Voice Kink, Praise Kink
It is a rare treat for Agent 47 and Diana Burnwood to work in the field together. Their two targets are in Marrakesh to finalise a business deal that needs to be prevented at all costs, and so they decide to split up to keep them apart. Things don’t always go as planned, but improvisation is part of the craft, and drawbacks only make the reward even sweeter.
Based on 47 Shades of Burnwood: Mission Debriefing
Tumblr media
Explicit, Freelancer, First Kiss, Agent and Handler to Lovers
Diana visits 47 in his new house for the first time. They have a lot to discuss, but some things remain unsaid, and other things are said in a language 47 didn't expect them to speak.

Let's see what February brings!
