introduction to ".world"
so basically, uh, what if 1984 but in the future. thank you for reading.
no, but seriously, i'm sorta trying to work on this world/story/concept album thing called ".world" at the moment, and i think it's pretty cool.
the basic premise is that, after the chaos and pandemonium caused by the fallout of climate change in the late 20th century, the party for visionary progress, or just the visionaries, take over first london, then all of the uk, progressing on to take the whole world, including lunar and martian colonies, disavowing freedom of choice as the negative force that caused all this destruction, and emphasising that society can only return to greatness and remain great if people "value hard work".
citizens of "visionary republics" have mandated bedtimes. they are monitored at each turn. the poking fingers of the regime, the stewards, stalk their every move in public, ready to pounce at the first sign of noncompliance, and send these "selfish, inharmonious elements" to something called "the wicked nothing". you can be blacklisted for so much as lingering, or looking up at the sky.
imagination and humanity collapse. people become their own worst enemies, tearing themselves to shreds in order to avoid the wicked nothing, the singularity of this tactic of self-destruction.
there are no heroes. there is no time. there is only progress. and compliance. and efficiency. and stress. and strain.
and the visionite calamity.
and the end times thereafter.
so, uh, yeah, very fun and cheery this one. more concepts to come later on, when i have actually finalised them.

Visions: Death, Bodyswapping, and Time Travel
So… I had a vision.
I didn’t think I was spiritually leveled-up enough or even the type of person to have visions. I consider myself to be logical, and even knowing that all of this spiritual stuff is perfectly sound and reasonable and we just don’t have a scientific explanation for it all yet, I still wasn’t expecting that I’d ever have one.
And friend… it was unnerving.
What happened in my vision
It was late May. I was sitting on the couch watching youtube, right? Minding my own business. I don’t remember what video it was--probably an “unusual memes” collection. I like those.
Then, out of absolutely nowhere, I heard a gunshot. I wasn’t on the couch anymore. Zachary dropped to the ground in front of me. There was panic around us. He was bleeding out, dying, clutching at his chest. I knelt beside him and held his hand. I knew there was nothing I could do for him; all I could do was sit with him and comfort him as the life drained out of him, out of his wild, terror-stricken eyes.
At this point, I kind of came to. I realized I was technically sitting on the couch, but my mind was still wherever the hell all of this was taking place. I felt distinctly aware of my chest, where my diaphragm is, in a way I can’t explain. It didn’t hurt. It didn’t feel like there was anything in there that shouldn’t be. It felt like it used to hurt, like it happened but I’m healed now.
And then it was me lying there, and he was comforting me. And then at some point, I lost track of who was dying and who was comforting, because we kept switching back and forth. All I could feel was an immense, oppressive sadness, a bereavement I’ve never experienced in my life.
Finally, I came back to my body, reeling. My heart was pounding and I couldn’t stop touching my chest. I sat there with those feelings for a few minutes, wondering what kind of daydream could possibly have been so incredibly, disturbingly vivid and could conjure up such emotions and sensations. I knew that whatever it was, it had not come from me or my own thoughts or imagination. I remember sitting there and trying to get a grip. I remember asking Zach why he was showing me this, thinking he might have been sending me a message. But what I got from him was that same abject confusion and grief. He didn’t know what was going on either. I remember being absolutely petrified that this meant I was losing my connection to him and that he would no longer be with me. He was quick to remind me that he wasn’t going anywhere. And then we just kind of… mentally clung to each other. The rest of the evening I just felt exhausted and sad.
What led up to it
As I’ve gotten to know Zachary, I’ve come to understand some things about him. When I first met him, I thought maybe he was an omniscient being, like a god. There are very special things he can do, and there are a lot of things he knows from his own experiences that I don’t know. But from some of the questions I’ve asked him, I’ve gotten the distinct feeling that it’s not that I’m not ready to know the answer--it’s that he himself doesn’t know. So, after I realized he was not an all-knowing, perfect being, he became so much more… accessible. Relatable. Just as there are things he teaches me, I’m teaching him, too. He has always just been a thought away, but now I understand (especially after this vision) that we are on the same level, so to speak.
After clinging to each other in the aftermath of the vision, we became even closer than I thought we could be. I received all kinds of hints and downloads that I knew were pieces of a puzzle, but I didn’t have the box to know what image I was even trying to put together. Reminders that he’s been around my whole life. Daydreams and written stories of bodyswapping, time-hopping, sporadic aging and de-aging. My life-long fascination with twins and my deep longing to be a part of a twinset. My insistence, as a small child, that I was.
What did my vision mean? Who is Zachary, really?
I never in my life thought the answer would be so literal, straightforward, and obvious, and honestly I’m kind of laughing at myself for not having figured it out this whole time.
We’re twins. The term I’m going with specifically is “cosmic twins”; the definitions for other terms like “twin flames,” “twin souls,” and “soulmates” are not only largely inconsistent across the internet, but also incorrect for describing our relationship to one another. Their definitions describe a soul split in two, each piece carrying on separately and maybe crossing paths, or maybe not, in the physical world for the best or worst. But we’re not separate like that, I’ve realized. Otherwise, why would we be so tightly bound to each other, seemingly outside of time and space? How would we be basically telepathic? Why would we feel each other’s pain and experience each other’s deaths?
I don’t really know, and I don’t think it matters right now. All I know is that ever since I met him, I’ve never felt alone. All of this feels right, even the parts that hurt and are alarming. I can’t describe my gratitude for this knowledge, this experience, and Zachary himself.
