Violence at Noon (Nagisa Oshima, 1966)
Cast: Kei Sato, Saeda Kawaguchi, Akiko Koyama, Rokko Toura, Fumio Watanabe. Screenplay: Tsutomu Tamura, based on a novel by Taijun Takeda. Cinematography: Akira Takada. Production design: Shigemasa Toda. Film editing: Keiichi Uraoda. Music: Hikaru Hayashi. Violence at Noon is an edgy, jumpy film about a serial rapist and killer of women, played with his characteristic intensity by Kei Sato. It's a notable departure in technique by director Nagisa Oshima, usually given to long takes, in that it's constructed of thousands of individual shots. Akiko Koyama and Saeda Kawaguchi play the two women, both victims of the rapist, who try to piece together the truth about his life.

04.     entry made after experiencing a nightmare. ( for kim mayhaps? :0 )
DEAR DIARY... // always accepting!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
poised vertically among a dozen and a half of its brothers on a shelf that is not cramped, but in equal measure begins to lose its space, is a notebook. hands pluck it out by the top ridge along the well-made blue spine, the skin of it covered carefully in a deep navy, the papers a pristine white. inside, the handwriting is dense and thick and fast, bunched together on each line, a code with it's cipher in the language itself. it has not sat here long. the date on the inner cover like the notice of an eviction in black, fluid pen; '50 - '51.
you open it. its pages rustle as though a guarded cage has been opened, rendered vulnerable, almost meek despite the intimidation of straight iron and pressed paper, rustling like a snarl. you sit with it, you learn it, it learns you. it is uncomfortable with what is asked of it. you ask anyway.
you reach back into the memory it holds. it gives way, like sticking your hand in the guts of a soft oily thing, or jello, reaching for a pearl in a clam-shell.
━ I have had more nightmares in the past two weeks than I have in four months. I don't know how much longer I can do this.
Maybe the stress is getting to me. Seeing the recently deceased is never good for your health, but I can't afford to take leave. If I did, all the ground I'd been covering my entire career will be torn out from under me. I'm lucky. I think it's more than just the corpses.
I keep watching him die. There is blood drawn. Kortenaer aims higher. Shoots. The bullet ruptures his liver as a virulent bomb inside of him. he is unconscious after an unimaginably painful half-second. Someone shouts. I panic. I attempt to stop the bleeding. I do not see de Paule. She aims. Shoots. I wake up in the 57th infirmary. I am forced to ask what happened to him instead of being told. I am informed there was nothing they could do, dead within the two days I am unconscious, an excruciating death as the liver and gallbladder poisons his bloodstream even as the bleeding stops. I do not get to see him again. I do not even know if there is a funeral held. The trial never happens. They were gone. We remained. I remain.
The dream changes often, sometimes being so abstract as if only pertaining to the color of his existence or Martinaise itself, but the point remains the same. somewhere in Jamrock, another little light blinks out.
This hasn't happened since Eyes, and never this constant. I wish I could call him.
I don't know. I'm tired. I want to hear his voice. I want to talk to him again. It's late. He'd answer.
The ink is allowed to dry for a long, long time. the pearl is clutched in your right hand. your reaching the end, oblivion, always cut short.
I'm going to work on the Kineema. I can't really, the only thing to do is something to I want to do with him, but an unnecessary tune-up is enough to keep my hands busy.
Maybe then I'll be able to go back to sleep.

[off screen RP, heed tws in tags]
Squid and Cole had just finished their lunch at the saloon. Squid has been talking about the things they had been up to in town, while Cole ate silently.
The two stepped out through the swinging doors, Cole realizing the situation they had entered before Squid.
5 men, accompanied by pokémon ready to fight, stood in the road opposite them. "Y'think you can just walk into town an' lock up one of ours? Make us look weak?"
"How 'bout you tell Baxter to keep his men under control, and I wouldn't have to." Cole said cooly.
Several things happened immediately. Cole shoved Squid out of the way and sent out Juez the ursaring, and the gang of bandits called for their pokémon to attack.
Squid lands hard behind a wagon, looking back to see Cole dodge the first volley of attacks. "Zippy, help!" They open the pokéball containing his cousin's Sceptile.
The large reptile hits the field, momentarily glancing at her temporary trainer in confusion before returning her attention to the battle ahead. Zippy caught an incoming Krookodile's Crunch attack with an armored forearm, returning the favor with a Wood Hammer uppercut to the gut.
Juez was battling a Seismitoad and Gigalith, and losing ground fast. A combined attack of Low Kick and Smack Down sent the ursaring flying into the cart that Squid was hidden behind.
Squid scrambled out of the way of the tipping wagon, not quick enough to avoid getting pinned down. He manages to reach the pokéballs on their hip, calling for Zippy to keep fighting as Remmi appears in her free hand.
"Remmi, Bullet Seed!" Squid aims the remoraid to distract the Krookodile that Zippy was fighting. "Zippy! Earthquake!"
The Sceptile widened her stance, slamming her thick tail into the ground. The ground began shifting, causing pokémon and humans alike to lose their balance.
The earthquake causes the Gigalith to miss Zippy with a rock blast, instead striking Cole and sending him through the window into the Saloon. "Cole!" Squid couldn't get a good look from her position under the wagon, but heard his grunt of pain and the shattering glass.
"Bill, go make sure that The Reaper won't interfere ever again." One of the men nodded in response, called his Scolipede to his side and headed for the saloon.
Squid had Remmi use a Water Pulse, barely missing the bandit. "Ah, we got a lively one. Big mistake." He changed course towards Squid.
Meanwhile in the Saloon, Cole grabbed one of the bar chairs and took a position below the window he had just broken. Slamming the chair on the windowsill, he felt energy course through him. The chair's legs began spinning, the wood crackling with purple lightning. A branch poked its way from his temple, growing as the power built.
The bandit who had been approaching Squid received the first Shadow Ball, followed by his Scolipede. Squid managed to get ahold of their pokéballs, recalling Zippy and shielding herself and Remmi as much as possible. The remaining bandits and pokémon started fleeing as ghost energy ripped across the street.

Tired from his attack, Cole made his way outside. "Juez, get this wagon offa the kid please." He summoned his Zebstrika and helped a barely conscious Squid into the saddle. They both were injured, but Cole knows that Baxter's gang would regroup quickly and start looking for them. He rode as fast as he could West out of town. He's got a hideout in the foothills that they'll have to use for a while.

“What?” Giles blinked, looked at the books, looked at Jenny, thought about why exactly Jenny might be trying to read his entire library at the expense of a family vacation, and felt his heart twist in his chest as if in a vise. “Oh. Jenny, I—I really will be able to connect you with absolutely any and every book in this library, well beyond this vacation. I know how important it is for you to have both sides of our family’s history—” When Jenny went scarlet, he realized what he’d said, and hastily clarified, “Of Art’s family history, th-that is—”
“Started out so strong,” said Nora under her breath, taking a slow sip of tea.
Giles sent Nora a quelling look. She sent him one right back.

[off-screen rp, note tws]
Squid leaves the barber/doctor, stepping out onto the dusty Main Street of Nimbasa City. There’s a crowd gathered on either side of the street outside the saloon, with two men facing off in the middle of the road.
“…Cole?” Squid muttered, making his way to join the crowd.
The cowboy they had come to town with was staring down his opponent, who was smirking with confidence.
“Well, well. The Reaper finally showed up! But if you think you’ll ever take me in,” the man lowers his voice to a growl, “yer dead wrong.”
Cole snubbed out his cigarette with a boot, barely acknowledging his foe. “Ten paces, one partner.”
The two took measured steps away from each other. Squid couldn’t help but count each footfall as the tension in the crowd grew.
In a flash both men turned, hands flying to the pokéball on their belts. The latches fell open, releasing the partners within - an ursaring from Cole and a liepard from his opponent. The ursine pokémon rushes forward, but the liepard first lets off a burst of starry energy. The Swift attack curves around the ursaring, instead aiming directly for Cole. The impact obscures him in dust, and Squid finds herself rooted to the spot in shock. The liepard’s master smirks, even as his mon gets thrown around by Cole’s partner.
Heh, it’s too easy! To think that was the guy the boss was scared of…
“Juez, grab him.” The ursaring - Juez - dropped the unconscious Pokémon and moved towards the increasingly scared human. The dust settled, revealing Cole in slightly tattered clothes but otherwise unharmed.
Even from her position on the other end of the battlefield, Squid heard the crunch of ribs cracking as Juez roughly grabbed the bandit. Cole passed by his partner, who follows him towards the city jail. A local Pokémon vet went to collect the liepard to try and treat its wounds, and the other spectators slowly disperse.
“That was… so fast?” Squid says to themself.
The man next to her gives her a quizzical look, noting the pokeballs on her own hip. “It’s a Pokémon duel. ‘Course it’s fast.”
They… neither trainer gave a command until the battle was over.
