Feel Good
Jura
2020
Savagnin
A medium bodied white - rich, zesty and full of power. Made with 100% savagnin grapes from the south of jura. Natural, organic and manually harvested.
It is vinified in the Burgundian style but crucially swaps out oak to spend 1 year on lees in qvevris, large concrete eggs. Federic made this decision to maximise mineral content. It results in a white Burgundy that is unusually juicy and pure.
Tumblr media
Jura
A small wine region in Eastern france, sandwiched between Burgundy in the west and Switzerland in the east. Characterised by a landscape of wooded hillsides and twisting Jura mountains. The grapes in this bottle are from Southern Jura and they are vinified in Saint Romain, Burgundy hence why it is a Vin de France.
Tasting notes: salted nuts, green apple, white peach, chalk
Pairing: charcuterie, cheese, white meat

Hetalia Headcanon #481
Matthew can't stand seeing people leaving everything for the very last minute, it's one of his biggest pet peeves.
His annoyance isn't mainly born out of his work ethic, however. There's a bit of this, of course, and it's also how he explains it to other people – but the real issue is that seeing people working so much and so hard right before a deadline kind of makes him panic. While he may rationally be aware that he doesn't need to work so much at that stage due to all the work he has already put into the task, he feels so guilty that he ends up working just as much or spending the entire time riddled with anxiety because he feels like he isn't doing enough.
In a way, it all vinifies the effort Matthew put into not ending up in that situation in the first place, with the end results he works much more than he would have actually needed.

The vineyard was planted in 1974 by Monika and André Boucher. Covering an area of 20 hectares, it has always been conducted in organic farming, a conviction of André Boucher (1st certification in 1987).
Monika et AndréIt is located on granite arena slopes in the extreme south east of the island in Sainte-Lucie de Porto-Vecchio. It is essentially composed of Corsican grape varieties which are mainly Niellucciu, Sciaccarellu and Vermentinu.
André Boucher initially delivered his grapes to cooperative cellars before finding a cellar that agreed to vinify his wine as a service with the constraints linked to organic.
After graduating as an oenologist and gaining experience by making wine in France and Australia, Gwenaële, their daughter, returned to the estate in 2000. It was with her mother Monika that she set up a cellar project on the farm and that the 2003 wine was born in this new cellar.

Weingut Eckehart Gröhl Riesling Niersteiner Ölberg Rheinhessen 2021
Tumblr media
Lagenwein / 100% Riesling / organic (in conversion) / 12.5% alc. / 4.7 g/L RS / 7.6 g/L acidity
Ölberg is a south-facing site, next to Hipping. Classic Roter Hang (Rotliegend) red soil. Johannes notes that “there is always wind at the top of this site.” Vinified in half Stückfass, half stainless steel tank. Compact aromas on the nose of grilled peach, smoke, and gunflint with superb length and layered finish. “Ölberg is always calm, not stressed on the palate,” says Johannes Gröhl who spent time honing skills as a Riesling and Spätburgunder specialist at Weingüter Rings and Philipp Kuhn in the Pfalz, and Matthias Knebel in the Terrassenmosel. It is presumed that the Ölberg (Oil Mountain) was named for the oily texture of its wines. ****

Riecine 2013 Riecine
Tumblr media
Brilliant pale ruby. Opens with gorgeous waft of red berry, pomegranate, rosemary, fresh violet and rose petals. Delicate and radiant on palate, with sappy red fruit, blood orange rind and coolish minerality rendered in great transparency, while ultra-fine tannins mesh stealthily into the supple, spice-tinged finish. Feels au naturel for élevage in Nomblot concrete egg, mostly, with the rest in very old tonneaux, not to mention 15% whole bunch fermentation. To borrow a cliché: burgundian. Just dainty, in similar fashion to the transcendent ’14.
A pure sangiovese selection from the oldest Riecine vineyard, Palmina (named after the wife of its late founder, Englishman John Dunkley) atop 500m Gaiole hill. Winemaker Alessandro Campatelli describes rather aptly it was made by ‘four hands’: his predecessor Sean O’Callaghan harvested and vinified the lots while he racked and blended the final wine.
In Alessandro’s words, Riecine di Riecine represents the ‘present’ of sangiovese: a singular expression of the noble grape’s multifaceted brilliance, a realization of which winemaking approach draws a parallel with experimentation in flux. The other flagship La Gioia, also a varietal sangiovese, harkens back to the ‘modern tradition’ of Super Tuscan, born out of collective ambition to propel then unheralded Tuscany’s finest into fine wine consciousness. Naturally the lifeblood of Chianti Classico, both the annata and riserva are history, terroir and Tuscan pride in a bottle. — ★★★★
Appellation: Toscana Region: Chianti, Toscana, Italy Subzone: Gaiole Cépage: 100% Sangiovese Abv: 13.5% Production: 7,000 Élevage: 3 years in Nomblot concrete egg tanks, mostly, the rest in used tonneaux Distributor: n/a
Critic Reviews:
Packaged in a Burgundian bottle, the 2013 Riecine pours forth with a dark garnet color. By appearance alone, the wine seems older than it really is. This expression of 100% Sangiovese is silky and tight with dried aromas of cassis and spice. The bouquet is a bit closed and will need more time to find its voice (although I feel inclined to suggest a shorter drinking window nonetheless). The wine is fermented in cement and aged in a very small percentage of neutral oak. Drink: 2017-2024. Monica Larner (Wine Advocate, 11/2017) 88
The 2013 Riecine Toscana Rosso is a fresh, vibrant red which opens to aromas of wild red berries, dried cherry, spices, rose petal and licorice all taking shape in the glass. On the palate this is elegant, medium-bodied and well defined with fine tannins and a bright, racy core of acidity providing lovely freshness through the spice-tinged finish. Although this is 100% Sangiovese it really brings to mind characteristics you might expect to find in Pinot Noir or even Nerello Mascalese. Overall, this is an interesting and quite unique expression of the varietal. (Best 2018-2027) Joe d'Angelo (International Wine Report, 08/2017) 93

On y reviendra.

Cabernet Franc Day
Cabernet Franc is a good red wine to pair with a wide variety of delicious foods. But, even though it has this whole day dedicated to it, it’s one of the lesser-known Cabernets and many people still have questions! What does it pair well with? What are its origins?
To learn these and other interesting answers, get ready to head over to France to discover more about what Cabernet Franc Day is all about!
History of Cabernet Franc Day
Cabernet Franc is believed to have been established in the Libournais region of southwest France sometime in the 17th century when Cardinal Richelieu transported vine cuttings to the Loire Valley.
These previous vine cuttings were planted at the Abbey of Bourgueil under the care of an abbot named Breton, whose name became associated with the grape. By the 18th century, plantings of Cabernet Franc (known as Bouchet) were found throughout Fronsac, Pomerol, and St. Emilion, with the intention of turning them into quality wines.
As Cabernet Sauvignon grew more popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, the close similarity of the two grapes was observed and theories emerged as to the extent of their relationship. In 1997, DNA evidence emerged to show that, at some point, Cabernet Franc had crossed with Sauvignon blanc to produce Cabernet Sauvignon. Experts believe that this happened by chance and were simply accidental cross-contamination, rather than a planned event.
Records of Cabernet Franc in Bordeaux go back to the end of the 18th century, although it was believed to be planted in the Loire long before that time. DNA analysis also indicates that Cabernet Franc is one of two parents of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Carmenere, in addition to being a parent of Malbec.
Cabernet Franc is one of the major black grape varieties worldwide. It is principally grown for blending with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the Bordeaux style, but can also be vinified alone as in the Loire’s Chinon.
Cabernet Franc is lighter than Cabernet Sauvignon, making a bright, pale red wine that contributes finesse and lends a peppery perfume to blends with more robust grapes.
This wine has a unique taste that is a bit spicy and contains a medium to high level of tannins and acidity (although it tends to be lower in tannins and acids than Cabernet Sauvignon). Depending on the growing region and style of wine, additional aromas can include tobacco, raspberry, bell pepper, cassis, and violets. It might also come with some tart notes that sit alongside hints of berries and plums.
Although they originated in France, Cab Franc grapes are now grown in most wine-producing countries all over the globe, and are mostly used with other grapes to make blended wines.
In recent years, Cabernet Franc is experiencing a lovely renewal of interest in North America, including places such as Washington, California, New York, and even up north in Canada.
How to Celebrate Cabernet Franc Day
The obvious way to celebrate this day is to raise a glass of Cab Franc wine as a toast to its uniqueness! Try out these ideas for celebrating, whether on your own or with a group of friends:
Drink Cabernet Franc Wine
To celebrate Cabernet Franc Day, the first course of action should, of course, be to have a glass of Cabernet Franc while enjoying a wonderful home-cooked meal. Pairing a fine wine like Cabernet Franc with a home-cooked meal is not only a good way to spend an evening, but it is also a good way to make an evening date all more romantic. Try it with a plate full of grilled steaks or chops, a lovely piece of salmon, or for a vegetarian option, go for portobello mushrooms, peppers and olives.
For a larger gathering, use Cabernet Franc when throwing a house party so everyone can raise their glasses to their successes and their loved ones. When the party has settled down, it’s a great wine to have while chatting with friends and family.
Learn More About Cab Franc Grapes and Wine
Impress friends and family members by learning a little bit more about this wine in celebration of Cabernet Franc Day. This little grape packs a power punch as one of the twenty most widely planted grapes in vineyards throughout the world!
Try out these facts and bits of trivia that will keep folks entertained while working to uncork that bottle of Cab Franc:
Cabernet Franc wine can be aged for up to 15 years if it is a high quality version of the wine.
Known as the “third grape of Bordeaux”, the Cab Franc grape can be found in many of the finest top Bordeaux wine blends in the world.
The most common Cabernet Franc wines can be found in three well-known villages: Chinon, Bourgeuil and Samur-Champgny.
Cabernet Franc might seem as if it is not very popular because many people haven’t necessarily heard its name. But that’s because it goes by quite a variety of different names and aliases, including Aceria, Breton, Burdeas Tinto, Capbreton Rouge, Grosse Vidure, Kaberne Fran, Messanges Rouge, Noir Dur, Petit Fer, Plant Des Sables, Trouchet Noir, and many more!
Take a Trip to France
Go to the place where it all began by scheduling a trip to visit Libournais. Loire Valley, the beautiful wine region, can be found in the central region of France, along the Loire River. It’s easily accessible from Paris and would even be a fun day trip from the country’s capital.

Andi is neighbours with 2Naturkinder and the two wineries support and encourage each other in the making of natural wines. Second generation winemaker Andi has achieved organic certification and has already laid the foundations for achieving biodynamic status. The unique Keuper soils give his wines power without high alcohol. Andi works on the sides or lower down the hill to achieve more subtlety in his wines compared to other area producers. Mixing tradition with progress Andi uses an 80-year-old basket press and vinifies in large German oak. He also experiments with maceration in qvevri (Georgian clay amphora).
