Alternative for the jealous/possessive Ronance.

"Nance!" Robin’s face lights up with a smile. She is slightly unsteady from a few shots and the cup in her hand. "Hey. This is Vickie".

From her part, Nancy is not fairing any better. Third cup in her hand by now and very well slipping from tipsy to drunk. She very well thinks Robin, bathed in the dim lights of an unknown kitchen, is a sight for sore eyes.

Wraps an arm around the girl’s waist. "Vickie from band Vickie?"

Redhead. Around Nancy’s height and leaning all too suggestively against the wall in front of Robin. Cute.

Nancy slacks further against Robin’s side. With the alcohol, the words are bolder. With the alcohol, the giggles are untamed. She shakes her head to clear the thoughts. "Hi, Vickie. You’re pretty. And adorable".

"Oh, huh. Thank you?"

"You think so, Wheeler?"

"You don’t?!"

"Well..." -- Robin grins from her girlfriend to her friend to her shoes and back again -- "...sure".

"Didn’t know you two were friends".

"Spring Break", they say at the same time.

"We fought monsters".

"Commited crime".

"Got pleasantly surprised".

They grin at each other.

"Didn’t know you played DnD".

"DnD, yes, yes, this is what it was. Huge campaign. I still have nightmares".

Nancy elbows her to stop talking. Sweetly smiles at the other girl by the wall. "Hey, you should come hang out with us at some point".

"I mean, yeah, cool".

"Cool-ish", Robin laughs. "Our friends are fifteen year olds and Nancy’s brother".

"Why's my brother a category of his own?"

"Because if he doesn’t drop the assholery around El and Will, I will beat his ass, Nance".

"Hey! I’m the only one allowed to say that".

"Oh, yeah? I am Will’s guardian and I have a say in my kid’s wellbeing too".

"Really? On who’s authority were you appointed a child’s guardian?"

"The state of Indiana, you asshole!"

Nancy cannot stop laughing by now, folding in half and hanging from Robin’s arm to keep from falling on the ground. The drink spills on Robin’s vandalized shoes.

"Well, look at that. My socks are going to be wet now". Her arm hasn’t dropped from around Nancy’s shoulders.

"Sorry, my darling".

Robin grins at the term. "Wanna get another one?"

"Only if you come along with me".

"Alright, guys, I'm gonna, huh -"

"Why would I ever say no to that, Wheeler?"

Nancy barely keeps from kissing her right here in the crowded living room. Barely keeps from pressing in and just --

Robin gasps, looking around. "You scared her away, Nancy!"

"Who?"

"Vickie!"

"What? I did not!"

Robin groans a defeated sound and Nancy pouts.

"Hey. We get me a drink, you get me to a room with a lock to make out for a minute and then, we go make it up to your friend. Deal?"

"Going to take more than a minute, Wheeler".

"Is Vickie here with other friends?"

"Yeah".

"Then, we can take more than a minute", Nancy winks up at her.

WIP Wednesweekend: first light Focus

At this point I'm just smushing together like three different WIP Wednesday rules (though borrowing most closely from the rules I cribbed from @steves-strapcollection last week), but I was tagged by @patchworkgargoyle and @bifuriouswaterbender in other WIP Wednesday posts. I have one last Summer Challenge fic to get out the gate, and this one is beefy, so I'm going to do a poll to help focus my scene writing for the week.

The Rules

I post scenes from my final Summer Challenge fic, first light on the horizon (at the end of the world) [AKA, the Rockie Apocalypse Fic]

You all vote in the poll and send me asks requesting a snippet of the fic of your choice

For every vote a fic receives, I will commit to writing 100 words on that fic. For every ask I receive, I will commit to writing an additional 100 words. (So if one gets 10 votes, and 5 asks, that's 1500 words) [I didn't actually write much in this over the past week while focusing on firmament, so between that and the leftover words from firmament I already owe first light 2.4k words]

At the end of the weekend, I will hopefully have completed scenes for all of these

I will post a snippet of what I wrote and tag everyone who requested a snippet!

The Snippet

this bit is from much later in the fic than the scenes above, but it's the most recent snippet of something that I have for it!

"Oh! Your hair is so different!"

Robin rubs a hand over the newly cropped length, her face screwed up with apprehension. "Yeah, I, uh—Steve did it last night. It just seemed like— I don't know, I've wanted to do it for a while and I figure people probably have more things to worry about right now than the length of my hair, right?" She laughs, nervously.

Vickie remembers her Aunt Shirl telling her how scared she was to be caught out by people when she first cropped her hair real short. Vickie’s never had to worry much, because as short as hers is it’s still got a feminine flair that her Aunt’s and now Robin’s lack. So Vickie makes sure to keep her grin wide and encouraging. Which isn’t hard, because that’s just the natural state her face wants to be in whenever she’s around Robin.

"I think it looks great!"

Robin’s eyebrows dart up in surprise, like she’d been expecting almost any reaction except that.
