welcome! get to know me
hi! i'm finn, i'm 18 and from the uk, raised just on the outside of liverpool my entire life. i'm an oldest child in my last year of a-levels before hopefully going to lancaster uni. as you can probably tell, ive been raised in a house of car and f1 fanatics, always watching it on tv because of my grandad and dad. over the past two years, i've gradually increased in my interest in it despite spending a good percentage of my year on race tracks due to my dad starting in endurance racing when i was 3 and switching to rallying recently due to being busy over summer.
the future?
i want to study film and creative writing when i go uni so i can study what i'm best at finally, but also so it opens more doors career wise. ideally, i would love to work as an fl presenter or potentially something like a social media manager for a team. i also want to start co-driving for my dad in rallying before heading down the path to hopefully british gt like he did.
favourites
movies: top gun, top gun: maverick, james bond (daniel craig edition), maze runner, mamma mia, jurassic park, pride, newsies (1992), treasure planet, dead poets society
shows: ted lasso, 911 lonestar, our flag means death, criminal minds, narcos, heartbreak high, sherlock, good omens, punisher, daredevil
other: reading, swimming, football (both watching and playing), big music listener obviously, travellin, learning new languages (currently italian), learning how to play new instruments such as guitar and trombone, collecting things like postcards and bracelets
driver: currently it's probably fernando alonso, but i also love lance stroll, sebastian vettel, jenson button, lewis hamilton, mark webber, oscar piastri, carlos sainz, charles leclerc, michael schumacher, liam lawson and mick schumacher.
team: in the wise words of sebastian vettel, everybody is a ferrari fan, but i do love mclaren and aston martin. (i'm also secretly a haas fan but shhhh)
principal: toto wolff is an obvious pick but i still pick him. i know he's left now but i do still adore guenther steiner with my whole heart. oh and not to forget andrea stella.
specialist shoutout drivers: doriane pin, paul aron, amna & hamda al qubaisi, kimi antonelli, tina hausmann, ollie bearman, arthur leclerc and jessica hawkins

F1 Tag Game! Tag some people you'd like to get to know better! tagged by @vettels-bees
Who is your favorite driver? Ooo that depends if we're talking about of all time or current grid. All time has to be Sebastian Vettel and current is Lewis Hamilton
Do you have other favorite drivers? Yep, the Sauber duo. I just love their dynamic. There's also Kimi when he was still around
Who is your least favorite driver? Nico Hulkenberg (He's just meh to me and there was that sexist comment which put me off)
Do you pull for drivers or do you like teams as well? I tend to root for drivers and with teams it just depends on the drivers
If you like teams, what teams do you pull for? I suppose Mercedes. I'm a massive fan of their sports car programs and drivers and that carried into F1 (However the F1 side...oh boy, aren't they in a ditch atm)
How long have you been into F1? Not to long, got into it in 2021!
What got you into F1? Well this is quite a story. The first I've ever heard about F1 was from my favourite gaming youtube channel (Outsidexbox/Extra) where they kept making references about Pierre and DTS on their videos and live streams and two members trying to convince the others to watch. I started watching DTS just to understand the references and ended up enjoying it. Then came the collaboration with Aston Martin and James Bond and that's when I watched my first race and loved it
Do you enjoy fanfic/RPF? I don't really read fanfics
How do you view new fans? I don't mind them unless its those weird tiktok fans then nope
Are your friends and family into F1 as well? Just my sister who got into F1 cause of me. My friends aren't as interested but I do send over some stuff (I think they just have a quick look and ignore it)
If you could take over as team principal for any team, who would it be and why? Sauber cause surely the bar can't be that high. Just fix the pitstops and get points??
Are you open to talking to other fans/making friends? Yes but I'm shy so someone will have to make the first move
I don't really know anyone to tag but if you see this and want to do this, feel free to use me

20 Questions for Fic Writers - Big thanks to the mega fabulous @kaossbells for tagging me!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
22 (look at that, Jenson's racing number...)
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
635,019
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Only F1 now. In the past I've mostly written for Muse. I've also written for BBC Sherlock. I have been writing since I was a kid, though, so there was a lot of stuff that didn't even make it online, let alone to AO3 lol
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Dance Me To The Moon (F1 / Sebastian Vettel), Zero Minus Ten (Muse), Everything of Nothing (Muse), Never Dream of Dying (Muse) and Resistance (Muse)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Absolutely. Unfortunately it's very common that readers do not give the authors any feedback. So if someone goes out of their way to show any kind of support or, as some very kind people do, leave detailed reviews, I will be incredibly grateful and make sure to let them know.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I often end my stories in a positive note, even the ones who have a vague or open ended finale. But I'd say a Muse one-off I wrote in 2009 called "Il Coma" was heavy for my standards. Also Never Dream of Dying, but that was part of a trilogy so not sure it counts. (well, the readers at the time were not pleased with the TBC, let's put it that way LOL)
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Currently, on AO3, I think Dance Me To The Moon. I don't want to spoil but it's a romance so.... haha
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I don't remember ever getting hate tbh.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Oh, yeah. Lots. Ha. All kinds. M/M. F/M. Threesomes. I've done PWP. I've done kink. I've done romance. I've done dubious/non-con. I've (literally) written smut sitting in a church. I've gotten to the point where I'm sort of getting bored of writing it.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Yes. I once wrote a Muse / BBC Sherlock crossover - Showbiz. It was incredibly fun to plot. It was well received, too, so I enjoyed that! The Mb-7 universe trilogy is also a crossover of sorts between Muse and Daniels Craig's James Bond, because characters such as M and Q feature.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
If I did, I never noticed.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I was once asked for permission for someone to translate a story, I felt very honoured!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes, the whole MB-7 trilogy was co-written with one of my best friends.
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
In F1 I will have to say Sebastian with Jenson or with Mark. (although in reality I like him with everyone lol). But Mulder / Scully from The X Files and Matt Bellamy / Dom Howard from Muse are probably my OTPs.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I don't really have WIPs because although I have a lot of ideas and have plotted things in detail that never materialised, I only start writing once I am 100% I will write it in full.
The only exception - and therefore a regret I never finished - is a sequel to the BBC Sherlock / Muse crossover. I wrote a few pages and sadly that was it.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Hard for me to answer this. But I try to make the characters as realistic and true to life as possible. I also make it a point of having a decently structured plot.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Oh, god, where to start. I feel immediately restricted in how and what I write because my command of English (as second language) is not as good as I wish it would be. Then I'm also a very slow writer and edit endlessly. I tend to repeat ideas and certain expressions. I don't know, we could be here all day lol
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Very cool! I love languages and especially in F1 it's very fitting.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
It was a TV show and I don't remember the name, I was a kid. The first one I do remember was for an American band called Matchbox 20.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
This is SO hard to reply! I'm going to leave out one-shots (which kills me cos there is a few I still love) and mention only chaptered stuff:
Dance Me To The Moon (F1) because I never thought I'd be able to write a romance and I was so incredibly proud of myself, was fully emerged in it and I will carry these two with me for the rest of my life.
Resistance  (Muse) because it was the first time I wrote a novel length thriller that I felt had all I wanted and it was such an enjoyable process.
Everything or Nothing (Muse) because it was the first of the MB-7 trilogy, it was co-written, we adored our villain, the huge amount of nods to James Bond. And it kicked off a series with a level of plot intricacy that I will never be able to top.
Showbiz (Sherlock / Muse) because it was such a crazy crossover but I had so much fun dissecting Sherlock and I was very happy with the result.
Honourable nod to a figure skating fanfic I wrote with Alexei Yagudin / Michelle Kwan, years ago. It was self-indulgence of the greatest kind and I loved writing every word of it. I have no idea if it's online anywhere atm. I wish I could remember the title!
tagging @magnycours2004, and anyone who would like to participate!!!

Formula 1 drivers as James Bond characters (based on vibes)
James Bond: George Russell
He's the most British guy who ever British. Does he has an edge? Is he dangerous? No. Not really. But bond!book is a respectable boring man! George would be a perfect kinda boring, kinda bland Bond. And he already has abs, so that's plus! (congratulations to your first pole!)
Tumblr media
(this pic is actually from collab with King's Men which is close enough)
Bond girl: Charles Leclerc. He's just very pretty. He's being punish lately for a character development I guess. He's gonna probably die at the end of the movie.
Tumblr media
Bond girl but make it villain: Carlos Sainz. He's hot. He's Spanish. He ignore orders from Ferrari his boss. He's also going to die because it's Ferrari James Bond film after all.
Tumblr media
Villain: I KNOW YOU ARE ALL SAYING MAX but I think that Max is actually very nice a kinda dork which are not qualities I wanna see in a villain. A challenge you: Fernando Alonso. He's older, experienced, he's a badass in kinda macho way? He was also already involved in espionage controversy (Spygate) so it just seems fitting?
Henchman: Lance Stroll. I like Lance but yeah, he has a big "my father will hear about it" energy.
Q: Damn, this one is tricky. Hardest, really. I wanna say Max because he has cats (and Sassy and Jimmy are the great names for Q's cats) but maybe his energy is a little bit different. So I'm saying Sebastian Vettel because he's probably the nerdiest of them all. He cares about many important things but he also is genuinely funny. And he's driving for Aston Martin! (happy retirement, Seb!)
Tumblr media
M: if I didn't choose drivers as my concept it would be Toto (can you imagine him saying NO, NO NO, JAMES, THAT WAS SO NOT RIGHT). But Lewis Hamilton would be also a great M. He saw it all, did it all. And now he's in charge and he's good at it.
Tanner: Valtteri Bottas (Alfa Romeo version). He supports his girlfriend, wears bucket hats and shows his ass everywhere. He's a sweatheart.
Moneypenny: Lando. Cute but deadly.
Felix: Daniel Ricciardo and nobody else.
and because Max Verstappen NEEDS to be in this my imaginary world, I'm gonna say he could be Alec Trevelyan (but fanon version). He's blond-ish, he has a temper, he's amazing in what he does, he's really clever. We stan Max/Alec in this house.
also I found this and now I can't stop laughing:
Tumblr media
(Pierre would be probably some minion)

#AstonMartin #F12024 #ReyesDeLaPista

It's Not Easy Being Green (in Formula One)
(This is an old blog post from July 13th 2023)
Tumblr media
Some may argue that 11th July will go down as the trigger of 2023's silly season as it was announced, after completing (or for better words; starting) 10 races, AlphaTauri's Nyck de Vries would be replaced with seasoned driver Daniel Ricciardo for the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix and beyond.
Safe to say, the internet exploded.
The situation, which has been the subject of numerous discussion for a while based on De Vries' performance and (James Bond villain club reject) Helmut Marko's unfavourable statements in the media, caused a storm online with a variety of differing opinions arising. However, the general consensus agrees that the treatment of Nyck by AlphaTauri and Red Bull has been extremely unfair and has called into question how the team treats its underperforming drivers.
After a string of consecutive poor qualifying and race results, as well as media backlash and criticism from Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko, De Vries was released from the AlphaTauri team. After 10 races. Ouch. Replacing him is Daniel Ricciardo, who made his debut in the same team. We call that coming a full circle!
The drama has made me wonder about the general fate for rookies in F1.
I've only been an F1 watcher since the start of this season, so I haven't seen the comings and goings of drivers in the modern era of the sport. However, having a subscription to F1TV gives me access to an archive of past Formula One seasons and I have been watching old races starting from the 2007 season. Over the course of the five seasons (2007-2011) I have watched so far, I have seen a variety of drivers debut with varying levels of success and failure.
Two notable drivers whose rookie seasons set them up to be icons of the sport during this period were Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel.
Tumblr media
Seb and Lewis in 2005. Did someone say baby GOATs?
Lewis finished on the podium in his debut race, and ended up becoming the runner up in the championship battle that year. In his debut year!!!!!!! In 2008, rookie Sebastian took his Toro Rosso team (the less successful baby sister of Red Bull) from pole to flag in Monza, the first of many successes not long after his first year in F1. Lewis and Seb have 11 (or 12...) world championships combined; definitely a future that anyone could have predicted from their debut seasons.
With Lewis having the backing of Ron Dennis personally since a young age and Seb being part of Red Bull's junior programme, you could argue that their rookie seasons had an advantagous beginning. However, not everyone debuting in top teams have immediately flourished. For example, Alex Albon and Pierre Gasly had unfortunate rookie seasons at Red Bull (both began at Toro Rosso but were promoted to Red Bull not long after) proving that best car doesn't always guarantee success.
Tumblr media
No amount of nice scenery can save this tin can on wheels.
In contrast, some newbies have been able to take advantage of the lot they have been given in life and make the most out of a terrible car. Charles Leclerc consistently got his Alfa Romeo into the points in 2018. This year's AlphaTauri has so far proved to be a disaster, and Nyck de Vries was ultimately unable to make such miracles in a shitbox as others have in the past. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda has scored the team their solitary 2 points, but I suppose a few points are better than none at all.
Does the car or the driver lead to a successful rookie season? The former definitely helps, but the latter seems to make the difference in a lot of cases. Lewis' debut car was fast, but his skill has gotten him to where he is today. Seb's debut car was awful, but his talent ensured his notoriety in the sport. Something to think about!
Either way, it doesn't matter much in the end. Formula One is a sport driven by money and if you aren't performing that becomes a problem for the team. Should Nyck have been given more of a chance, especially with half the season still to go to prove himself? Absolutely. Am I surprised how it ended? Not entirely.
While I can be glad to see the remaining 2023 rookies seemingly thriving in their first F1 teams, I can't help but pity whatever poor sod makes their debut at Red Bull next.
