Things I would like to see more discussion about regarding Alan Wake 2 #6: Oceanview Motel & Spa. You can learn more about it from Pat if you listen in to his show in his room at the Nursing Home before hell breaks loose, it definitely looks like a location that could work as a dimensional hub just like the Oceanview Motel & Casino and Oceanview Hotel do. (The fact that Alan apparently stole the plot beat about Logan drowning from the story of the teen drowning in the bunker which may have contributed to the Motel & Spa being deep-sixed is just icing on the cake)

hi do you ever think about this paragraph of the page Building the Valhalla Nursing Home? how thats the last we hear of barry From The Story, up until the emails (and thus outside his narrative)? How it sounds more like an affirmation, wistful thinking, than anything else? A last farewell to his best friend, wishing him the best? *taps microphone* is this thing on? do you ever think about alan wake and barry wheeler? hello? can anyone hear me?

Um more Haganezuka reader where there’s some fluff between them and some of the gods/human with them? Just vibes. And they see her face w/o the mask
-News travels very fast in Valhalla, and when the report of an attack on the Swordsmith Village, where you called home, supplying the Demon Slayer Corps with their weapons, many were worried about you and the other swordsmiths.
-The demons tried to attack, to leave the Corps without weapons, but the Corps were quick to respond and launched an all-out final attack after Muzan showed up as well.
-You were furious when the Corps took weapons from your storeroom that weren’t perfect or weren’t finished, fighting with any weapon they could get their hands on.
-The Master of the village brought you a sword that he had been holding on for Yoriichi, who had said early on when he arrived in Valhalla that he didn’t want to fight anymore. Yoriichi was in route, hearing about this chance and hearing about the casualties, but needed his sword, which Muzan managed to chip while the master was bringing it to you.
-You entered the zone, your concentration not breaking as you sharpened the blade on the whetstone. A demon had followed the master and your good friend, Komori, had taken the master and ran, telling you to run as well.
-The demon slashed at you, using a whip to hack and slash at you but was stunned when nothing seemed to break your concentration. You finished the blade as the demon went for the killing blow and Yoriichi ran in, kicking the demon from you and he took the blade, “You have my thanks!!” before going on the attack.
-You collapsed, enraged, “Why the hell am I injured?!”
-You don’t remember much of what happened afterwards, as you had passed out due to blood loss, but the next thing you remember was waking up in the infirmary.
-There were flowers all around you, different get-well gifts from different people, the one closest was from that Tanjiro brat who kept breaking or losing your swords, but you had to admit he was strong, and another was from the Master, and you recognized Brunnhilde’s handwriting on a lovely bouquet, from all of the Valkyries.
-After being checked out by the nurses and doctors, you were allowed to sit up, you were tender and stiff, but hungrier more than anything.
-After eating and being told to rest, you were surprised to hear a knock on the door, telling you it was a visitor, and you called out to tell them to come in.
-Lu Bu- You weren’t expecting him, but after he had heard how badly you had been injured in the attack, working on a sword to help defeat Muzan, he wanted to come and see you. He was stunned, seeing you there, without your mask or hair covering; he knew you had luscious hair, but you never took your mask off. You were very attractive and your eyes were sharp, piercing right into him as he came in, holding a jug of hard liquor, a get well gift. He sat beside you and let you vent, roaring with laughter when you told him about the bastards who took all your imperfect weapons. You pouted over at him as he grinned at you, thinking your pouting face was cute before he spoke, “Wanna go get some good once you’re out of here?” you agreed, not fully realizing he had asked you out, but he didn’t fully intend it that way either, it just sort of happened.
-Poseidon and Kojiro- They both froze as you turned your head to face them, revealing your stunning looks to them, and one of your eyebrows lifted, “Why are you standing there blocking the door?” yeah it was you. Kojiro approached, holding a short vase with some flowers in it, setting on your nightstand before putting a comforting hand on your head, “How are you feeling?” your slight grimace of pain was more than enough of an answer as Poseidon spoke, “As soon as the news made it to us we rushed to the village as quickly as possible, but by that time everything was finishing up.” They told you what you already knew, that Muzan had been defeated, but you were surprised when Kojiro blurted out, “You’re really beautiful!” you and Poseidon blinked at him in shock before you looked at him like he had two heads, as you had never really dealt with that before, before Poseidon agreed and you looked between the two, terribly confused and color rising to your cheeks which made them both chuckle warmly.
-Loki- You were thrown off by Loki throwing himself into your arms, the stuffed bear he had brought, dressed like him, was laying at the end of your bed as he hugged you, “You’re okay!!” it was strange, you had never felt like this with anyone before, the gentle comfort and affections he was giving you was so unlike anything you’ve ever received before. He pulled back and he went to say something before he froze, a childlike gasp leaving him as he cupped your cheeks, “You’re so beautiful!!” your eyelid twitched lightly, thrown off by his words, “Huh? What do you mean?” your confusion stunned him before he realized that you always wore that mask of yours, you had no idea how beautiful you actually were!! Thankfully, Loki was there to ‘help’ after you got discharged, dragging you all around Valhalla, letting everyone behold your beauty, which was rather embarrassing.

Saga's mind place is styled like the Elderwood Palace Lodge, and specifically the back room where Saga and Alex have set up a temporary place to work.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It doesn't say what public or private use the original building served, only that it was disassembled and reconstructed in Bright Falls in 2015-2016.
You can interact with the deer head in the back room of the lodge, and there are deer skulls on the walls in several rooms. Saga is often visually crowned with antlers when she is within her mind place.
"Elderwood" brings to mind the Oldest House and its thematic roots in Yggdrasil, "palace" evokes royalty. ("Mind place" is Saga's little spin on the concept of a "mind palace.") Deer have a lot of rich symbolism all over the world - in Norse myth in particular, four deer live within Yggdrasil and eat at it, causing it pain, and another deer stands upon the hall of Valhalla, whose antlers feed into the spring from which "all waters rise." (These may have been the same creatures at one point.) Stag gods and the association of deer with royalty, death, spiritual travel, and the sun were also common from the Steppes to Eastern Europe to Scandinavia.
Room 108 is a locked room in the lodge. It's also the murder site that you can find in the Oceanview Hotel in the Dark Place, a large suite that overlaps with the bunker beneath the Valhalla Nursing Home, where Norah Hesburg drowned and which is referred to as "the Oceanview Motel and Spa." 108 is a number associated with the "golden ratio" (or golden spiral, or divine proportion), and a sacred number in many Dharmic beliefs.
If you interact with the deer head in Saga's mind palace, it will speak to you with a feminine voice and tell you that a certain number are "remaining," with a deeper register than Saga's voice. You can unlock Room 108 by interacting with all twelve deer heads. You will see a deer enter the room when it's open. The room is home to deer skulls and antlers, tools (presumably used for sawing off antlers?), a mirror on the ground, and extra supplies for you to pick up.
What Saga says to the deer head in the back room of the lodge is: "Hello Mr. Deer. You remind me of a dream I had."

theory post:
(spoilers for AW1/AN/AW2)
AW2 Zane is not the original Zane; he is a new version of Tom Zane that has overwritten the original, both in the Dark Place and in the real world.
Part One: Contradictory realities
The idea that this version of Zane has been written into reality and displaced the original Zane is, I think, pretty much textual - I'm very interested in the fact that despite the fact Zane the poet wrote himself out of the world, he did still exist in certain places e.g. in the memory of Cynthia Weaver, who kept that memory alive by writing newspaper articles about Zane (dismissed as urban legend by everyone around her), in actual physical evidence via the shoebox loophole that he created himself (the box of books in the cabin, which are real copies of books that don't exist), and in the memory of the Dark Place (Diver's Cabin at the bottom of the lake). When Zane dismisses the poet/diver as 'a beloved character I played in one of my films', that may be what he now believes (I think he's either not fully aware of the disconnect or doesn't particularly care), but it hasn't always been the truth. There was a real poet called Thomas Zane, and there wasn't: two contradictory truths.
Besides the box of books in the cabin in AW1, the most compelling evidence that reality has been rewritten is the existence of the manor that became Valhalla Nursing Home. Cynthia Weaver's journal indicates she still retains her memories of the original Zane and is very confused when people start referring to him as a filmmaker. She also has in her room a photograph of Zane and Jagger standing in front of Diver's Cabin, which is an object that absolutely should not exist - Zane was never a diver, right? In the basement of the nursing home, you can find a newspaper article with an identical photograph of Zane and Jagger, this time standing in front of their newly purchased manor home. The manor did not exist in the original version of reality as it is in AW1; Norman has dialogue referencing this ('Isn't it strange that I've lived in Bright Falls my whole life and I can't remember this house?'), which Mandy-May refutes ('The house has always been here') just as Saga's memories of her original reality are refuted throughout the game. The manor and the cabin are, similar to the filmmaker and the poet, the same building in different versions of reality, occupying the same role in the history of Bright Falls, which is why the Writer's Room exists in both of them. The same place, the same person - but different.
(Jesse Faden's therapy tape referencing Zane the poet in Control is an additional piece of evidence similar to Cynthia's memories - I assume that Polaris's influence protected Jesse from the effects of that reality rewrite.)
Okay. So Zane was rewritten into reality as a filmmaker. By who?
Part Two: Who else?
This part is more speculative, but it makes so much sense to me that I don't even feel like it's reaching too far 😭. Alan Wake is constantly writing drafts. Constantly cycling through loops that even he's forgotten. He wrote Thomas Zane into Departure as a way to free himself from the cabin, as a guardian angel for himself who would feed him manuscript pages and lead him to the end of the story. It seems almost impossible that over the course of 13 years, it wouldn't occur to Alan to try that again. Bring Zane back, rewrite him for his purposes, maybe as a collaborator this time? American Nightmare provides some excellent context for this, since the final piece Alan needs to rewrite reality and kill Scratch at the end is Alice's short film - you could say he's collaborating with her in absentia. Their two pieces of art strengthen each other, similar to the idea Zane presents to Alan in Initiation 5 of 'your magnum opus, Return, and its companion piece, my film'.
It feels natural (to me!) that Zane the filmmaker was created to fulfill this role of collaborator in a different medium, down to the way he describes himself as a fellow 'celebrated auteur'. He's here to help Alan get out. But as Alan forgets his own actions after a certain amount of time, Zane's role becomes murkier - Alan no longer trusts his intentions, no longer wants to give up control of his story, and the new Thomas Zane is left adrift in the Dark Place with little besides the desire to create to escape (with Alan). Again more speculative, since Zane's objectives are left relatively ambiguous throughout the game, but I do believe his desire to help Alan get out is sincere (even if his motivations for it are unclear). What this will mean if/when he escapes the Dark Place himself is another story :)
Side note: why does the new Zane look like Alan?
I don't know if this is a question everyone has? I do, because I'm not sure as to the current canonicity of the photographs of the original Zane in This House of Dreams, but those appear to show a blonde man with a different build to AW2 Zane, and Alan himself questions why Zane looks like him. Frankly, if we're going by the 'Alan created him' theory and given Scratch's existence as his evil doppelganger, I don't think that Alan would have intentionally written the guy to look like him - Zane's appearance feels like a reflection of the fact that this is Alan's dreamscape, a 'performance the Dark Place [is] putting on' which is 'all about me, but I [have] no control over it'. I also think that Zane is a reflection of the traits Alan would value in a collaborator, and that Alan Wake has a hard time letting anyone but himself write his story... You see where that could go.
Theorising more about this one would require going deep into my beliefs about Wake and Zane as reflections of each other in a creator/creation loop paradox that continues from the first game and fulfillers of the same archetypal Creator/Hero role within a larger metanarrative of the Story of Cauldron Lake (hence why various important characters refer to Alan as 'Tom') and I don't have time for that right now but probably the true answer has to be. They wanted to give Ilkka Villi a guy to play without dubbing. And I could listen to that man talk forever so alright post is over thanks for coming
(Side note 2: Self-promotion
I wanted to write a full 'setting out theory' post about this but I did also incorporate a lot of it into my fanfiction. Which you can read if you want to if you're interested in edging for creative inspiration 🙂)

Hades /Poseidon x Reader who is in a coma for two years Pt1.
AN: Art doesn't belong to me I found on Pinterest. RoR/SnV doesn't belong to me either I just came up with the story.
------
Tumblr media
Hades sat in a chair his face forlorn as his lavender eyes traveled to the bed. The sun shone through the curtains yet it did not rouse the one he wanted to see most. On the bed there lay a beautiful woman, her (s/c) skin shimmered in the morning light. Her fairy like smile and features always seemed to brighten his most darkest of days. Gently taking hold of her frail hand he lifted it to his face gently rubbing it against his cheek. "My dear sweet (Y/N) please wake up soon." he murmured.
Lavender eyes closed as they envisioned his lovely spring rubbing her thumbs across his cheek. Opening them again, the King of Helheim brows sank in depression. (Y/n) laid there unmoving, just the sound of her soul breathing was his only response.
A soft whoosh alerted Hades that the two had a visitor. Deft footsteps made their way towards the two rulers. Hades without even looking already knew who it was. Green boots stopped just three steps behind the god. "She's the same the nurses say that her vitals are still stable." Hades told. The god behind him hummed in acknowledgement. "As there been any movement?"
The gods voice was cold yet it held a quiet undertone. Tilting his head back the God of the underworld gazed at his younger brother. "No their has not been any movement from her." notify his brother. The blonde haired god nodded as his blue eyes watched his brother turn back to his wife. While the two men sat in silence another stood in the hallway, her (bf e/c) hues gazed on in sadness. Oh my dear friend, please pull through we all need you here. Big brother still needs you. she prayed.
"Can you believe her?"
The woman' pointed ears pricked at the voice. "I know it's so disgusting." another stated. The woman without turning her head, narrowed her eyes at the two nymphs. "Faking an illness just so she can get attention. How typical." the first one laughed. "Yes, I quite agree. If only that silly flower nymph had added a little more poison then we would've had a chance of taking h-" before anyone of them could finish the deafening sound of the ocean raged outside. The two nymphs huddled together their fearful hues turning to the woman.
Wind blew around (h/l) (h/c) hair, making it appear as if the goddess was in her husband' domain. "You wretches." her voice seething with anger and hatred. The goddess was now fully facing them her fists clenched in a tight fist while the wind that swirled around her grew more violent. Looking behind the oceanic being they could see an armada of salt water crocodiles forming."Prepare to face the wrath of the ocean you mewling quimes!" she yelled.
The two nymphs screamed as they ran. The ocean goddess not far behind began yelling profanities and insults at them while the crocodiles snapped at their feet.
Both Gods turned to the commotion outside. "It seems your wife is as loving as ever to her dear sister in law, isn't she Poseidon." Hades joked. Poseidon made no comment on his brother' remark instead he followed the echoing sounds of chaos and rage.
The king of the underworld laughed in silence but his smile soon shifted into a frown. Veering his attention back to his wife, he softly squeezed her hand. Eyes holding sadness again.
Somewhere else in the halls of Valhalla, the queen of the oceans had cornered the two nymphs. The two dreaded what fate the Queen of the oceans would reign down upon them. The crocodiles inched forward "Cease this pointless squabble."
The great reptilians turned to see there king, "Poseidon why in Valhalla would you order theEE - HEY!" the god of the seas had grabbed (bf Y/n) by one of her shoulders and started dragging her back to the room. "Poseidon what are doing? You dummy!" they exclaimed. The god of gods ignored her as he made the crocodiles disappear back to their homes.
The two nymphs that had cowered in fear where now standing up and smiling in triumph. "My my did you see that?" one asked. The other nodded, "Yes I did. Hey maybe," before she could even finish the floor below them had opened. Screaming the two nymphs fell into the depths of the earth.
Back in his wife' room Hades had threaded his fingers with her own but the loud boom of the earth closing had caused him to look at his brother who had just re-entered the room. He was about to say something when a twitch made him freeze. Hades' lilac eyes held hope as he whipped his head in your direction.
(e/c) orbs gingerly opened as they took in their surroundings. She could hear the one sided argument of her brother and sister in law. Turning their head to the side, she smiled as she lightly gripped the hand in hers. "My love, why the tears?"
The king of the underworld was shedding tears as he gazed at you. Lifting the hand that held yours, he deftly kissed it. Sooner than he could speak he heard a voice behind him. "(Y/NNNN)!" his sister in law zoomed past him and was on the other side of you clutching, as gently as they could, your other hand. Gazing to look at them, you smiled. Big fat tears were rolling down their big (bf e/c) doe eyes.
Smiling even more, you slightly laughed at their behavior. Hades also chuckled at the action but his smile grew more as he leaned into your forehead and kissed it. "Welcome back my lovely (Y/N)."
__________
This is for the sunshine that I follow on this platform. They recently had surgery and Idk why but some people think that she faked it. Well I'm gonna put out my feelings bc I recently lost someone due to cancer. She hid it from us because she didn't want us to worry. I'm still mourning. Also sorry if I made Hades out of character, I mainly write for Poseidon or some other character like him. I hopped you liked it.

I'm sure this has already been pointed out by others, but the whispered words and phrases that the shadows say throughout the Dark Place all seem to come from Alan's 'transmissions' - and actually, I think all or at least most of them come from the 'Drowning' transmission.
I didn't notice this til going back through my files at higher volumes. I recorded this one bit of a few minutes of the voices, rain, and flickering neon, (which, btw, please drown me in that), and I'd like to go back now and find another spot where the voices are easier to hear - but there's no mission select and I didn't do any manual saves :-(
The shadows also shout some of these things in the middle of full-on fights: "This is MY story," "GET OUT of my story," "This story will EAT YOU ALIVE," but they say more of them outside of combat.
Also - I'm wondering what the significance is of the grandfather clock chiming in the background of Alan's transmissions? You hear it at least once in, (I think), all of them - in this one, it's right after he says "I've written so much!". I don't remember seeing, and definitely don't remember hearing, a clock while you control Alan in the Writer's Room...is the implication that it's the clock downstairs in the nursing home? I can't remember where the clock actually was, but you can hear it ticking - I added another recording of Saga in the pool/break room of the nursing home. I never heard it chime while playing as Saga though...

A Rant About Thomas Zane
I’ve decided to make my own opinions on what each Thomas Zane is. (This can also serve as a recap of every Zane you should know about and their roles)
(Feel free to correct me on anything if I got anything wrong!)
There are three Thomas Zane’s that I will be talking about, Tom The Poet, Tom The Diver, and Tom The Filmmaker.
We’ll begin with, I guess who’ll you’ll call the original if you want to get technical, Thomas Zane the Poet
The Poet
Tumblr media
Thomas Zane the Poet.
What we know about him: From the information that Barry got from around Bright Falls, Tom lived in the Bird Leg Cabin and due to him often diving in the caldera it came to be dubbed as Divers Isle. He fell in love with Barbara Jagger as they lived together on the isle. Zane was clearly a famous writer, having many books (which can now only be located via a shoe box) One day, Jagger ended up drowning and Zane, in his grief and given advice from his assistant, Emil Hartman, wrote that Jagger came back. She returned, but it was the Dark Presence wearing her skin, so Zane cut her heart out, put on his divers suit, and dived into the lake, causing for the volcano underneath the lake to erupt
Now, if we are to go off the events of This House Of Dreams, Zane and Jagger now reside in a pocket dimension as they live in peace.
Now, onto the subject of who wrote who in regards to Zane and Alan. You can make a case for either, but, in my personal opinion, Zane wrote Alan so that Alan could defeat the Dark Presence.
We can assume that no one has been in contact with Zane since 1970, when he dived into the Lake, and that whoever is in contact with Zane is either the Diver or the Filmmaker.
People who remember the Poet:
Alan Wake: often calls Zane ‘The Poet, The Diver’ so he clearly remembers Zane being the poet
Cynthia Weaver: In a note in Alan Wake 2, she remarks that Zane was a poet, not a filmmaker (maybe there is a connection to those who were in contact with Zane before he went into the Lake and them having their memories of Zane)
Emil Hartman: He clearly remembers Zane, even when Zane wrote himself out (again, he also knew Sane before he went into the Lake, so it makes the theory possible, though he was Taken before Zane was written to be a filmmaker so it’s possible that he could’ve forgotten)
Tor and Odin Anderson (possibly): They knew that Zane was a poet (their song about him is called ‘Poet And The Muse’) so they clearly remember him (though they often refer to Alan as Zane, even before he was referred to as a Filmmaker so it’s very likely that Zane as always looked like Alan) though they don’t ever mention Zane in AW2, besides calling Alan ‘Tom’, so it’s unknown if they remember the poet or the filmmaker
Barry Wheeler (until AW2): He got information from the town, so he knows that Zane is a poet, but in AW2, when you read the plaque he wrote about Valhalla Nursing Home, he wrote that Zane was a filmmaker and that the home belonged to Zane the filmmaker, meaning that Barry most likely now thinks of Zane as a filmmaker rather than as the poet
Jesse Faden (until AWE DLC): Jesse is an interesting case, as she clearly remembers Zane being a poet, even when others referred to him as a filmmaker (in her therapy session she stated that her favorite line is ‘Beyond The Shadow You Settle For, There Is A Miracle Illuminated’, which is also Hartmans favorite) but when she saw Alan’s conversation with Zane The Filmmaker, she then remarks that ‘he was a filmmaker’ and that she always got that confused
It seems that Tom being the poet is remembered by few, with only two outright remembering him as the poet, since everyone refers to him as the Filmmaker.
Now we will be going onto the Bright Presence, also know as Thomas Zane The Diver
The Diver
Tumblr media
Thomas Zane (also known as the Bright Presence) The Diver
What we know of the Diver: All we know is that the Bright Presence decided to take the form of Zane as the Bright Presence fought the Dark Presence (who took the form of Barbara Jagger)
We first meet the Diver in Alan’s dream, in which he appears as a light. He instructs Alan on how to defeat the Taken before leaving his dream. He then helps Alan escape the Cabin (via Alan writing the Diver into his story) as Zane helped him throughout the way, leaving pages for him. We fully see Zane in his divers suit (besides when he helps Alan get out of the Cabin during the missing week) is when Alan first meets Scratch, saying that ‘You’re friends will meet him when you’re gone.’ And telling him to use the Clicker.
We hear him throughout the Signal, guiding Alan via phone as he finally is confronted with Alan, in which he tries to explain to him that he is fighting himself, only to vanish.
We see Zane again in the Writer, in which he continues to guide Alan, until he reaches a point in which he can’t ’go any further’ and gives Alan a page to help him go further into the Dark Place.
(They also have an interesting conversation in the game in which Zane claims that Mr Scratch is not Alan and that he is not the author of Alan’s story, and when Alan tries to bring up the page that Zane wrote about the Clicker, he began stammering before leaving. I find this conversation to be so interesting!)
That is the last time we see of this version of Zane. He doesn’t make an appearance in AWAN, and by AWE DLC, Zane has now become the filmmaker.
We don’t know about the time between the Writer DLC and AWE DLC, so it’s unknown when exactly Zane the Diver became Zane the Filmmaker (if you believe that they are the same entity) and if Zane the Diver still even exists.
People who know/remember the Diver:
Alan Wake: He refers to Zane as ‘The Poet’ and ‘The Diver’ and has met the Diver multiple times. So he clearly remembers the Diver
Cynthia Weaver (indirectly): She believes that she is in contact with Tom the Poet, but it’s most likely that she was in contact with Tom the Diver.
Mr Scratch (American Nightmare version): He was introduced to Alan by Zane, so he definitely knows the Diver.
It’s clear that we don’t know much about the Diver, and that the Diver has interacted with less people than the Poet or the Filmmaker. It’s unclear if the Filmmaker and the Diver are separate beings or if the Diver became the Filmmaker.
Speaking of the filmmaker…
The Filmmaker
Tumblr media
Thomas Zane the Filmmaker
What we know of The Filmmaker: I can positively say that we know more of the filmmakers past than all the other versions of Zane.
Thomas Zane (born Thomas Seine) was a famous Finnish filmmaker (his known films being Tom The Poet and Yöton Yö) who moved to America in the sixties with his partner, Barbara Jagger (born Baba Jakala) and constructed the old Manor and wanted to construct a hotel called ‘The Oceanview Hotel’ (since the Oceanview Motel is considered a Place of Power I wonder if Zane had any influence on that) and to produce films within the hotel. He would also often take ‘magic mushrooms’ and, just like the Poet, lived on Divers Isle.
Same basically experienced the same thing that The Poet experienced, diving into the lake as it erupted.
We first meet Tom the Filmmaker in the AWE DLC, in which he talks to a confused Alan about writing a way out, and when Alan brought up Scratch, Zane said that he was dealing with him, which caused Alan to throw a fit, throwing his glass cup against the floor. (Alan also notes that someone is coming and that he has got to get out of there, whether this is Zane or Scratch or someone else, it’s unknown, though I personally believe it’s Scratch he’s talking about)
The next time we see Zane is in Alan Wake 2, in which Zane first assists Alan via phone calls before telling him to meet him at the Oceanview Hotel
Alan and Zane have a similar conversation to the one they had in the AWE DLC, Zane giving Alan a drink and talking about escaping. Zane shows some slight reality bending abilities in the scene, the scenes glitching as he teleports him and Alan to a chair and manifests a jacket onto himself.
Then he and Alan have a montage of them getting drunk, in one scene he is shown playing with a Diver toy that looks exactly like the Divers outfit.
(We also see Jesse show up as Zane rushes away in a panic. The scene is incredibly similar to the one in AWE, which means that either Jesse is viewing the scene in AWE DLC, or that Jesse is peeking in again and that Zane and Alan often have that type of conversation)
We see Zane next when Alan goes to see him again, in which Zane admits to be working with Scratch. Zane begins using his reality bending abilities, having Alan tied to the chair before Alan pulls the trigger, killing him as he takes Zane’s ticket.
After you exit the cutscene and are still in the room, Zane wakes up, recites a poem, and wipes his forehead before claiming that ‘that is drama’ to the camera.
We get in indirect mention to Zane via Tim Breaker by Tim mentioning that Zane ran into him, asked where Alan was, asked if Tim was going to a costume party, only to learn that Tim was an actual cop and ran away.
With Saga’s side of the story, there isn’t much to know about Zane, mostly getting information about him in the Valhalla Nursing Home section. Saga profiles Cynthia Weaver and believes that Zane was an ‘Old Flame’ and was possibly Taken.
The Filmmaker looks exactly like Alan as he seems more rambunctious compared to the Diver’s calm demeanor. May people speculate that Zane is Scratch, specifically AWAN Scratch (The Happy Song does play for him and he does have some similar aspects to AWAN Zane, most notably his boisterous exterior that hides a darker side when he gave an evil grin) Whether Zane is Scratch or a facet of the Dark Place or the Diver who has been altered, all we can know is that The Filmmaker has given more questions than answers.
People who know/remember the Filmmaker:
Alan Wake: He has met The Filmmaker, though he does refer to him as The Poet and The Diver, in which Zane remarks that those were roles he played in a film
Ahti: This is interesting, since you would assume that Ahti would remember the Diver, or the Poet, but he remembers making a film with the filmmaker, often calling Alan ‘Tom’, like the Anderson Brothers
Barry Wheeler (most likely): He wrote on the plaque that Zane was a filmmaker, so unless the plaque changed reality, then Barry believes that Zane is a filmmaker
Jesse Faden (after AWE DLC): She used to remember the Poet, but after witnessing Alan’s conversation with the Filmmaker, she then claims that he was a filmmaker and that he always mistook him for his role as the Poet.
Most People in Bright Falls and Watery: There is a poster about Zane the filmmaker in Watery and the Valhalla Nursing Home used to be Zane’s old Manor, though one of the residents doesn’t remember the Manor being there before being corrected by another resident.
Saga Anderson: She has only known the Filmmaker.
All these Zane’s are varying in personality (with us knowing little to nothing about The Poet) but it’s clear that Zane is one of the most intriguing part of the games due to how mysterious and changing his character is. I do hope we get more information on Zane, especially if they address the theory that Zane is Alan’s father/creator.
To whoever read all this, thanks for reading my ramblings.

Posting some thoughts on here, as shared on Discord
So I haven't been able to play AW2 myself yet but I watched multiple playthroughs and videos etc. But I always liked Saga's sections becos it lets you explore Watery & Bright Falls and I just rly love all the interactions u can have and even just observing the odd NPCs that inhabit these towns is super fun and intriguing <3
It kinda left me thinking a lot about these characters and their daily lives, how they interact together etc.
Which is why I think I rly like writing about them too and reading about some of the rarepairs and slice of life fics <3
(This might be the first game where I think so much about the minor NPCs, usually I remain focused on the main cast in a game/movie)
I've written a whole bunch of fics and drabbles and since it usually revolves around the Koskelas, I often add "OCs" to fill up the town.
Giving NPCs names gives them a bit more substance. Sometimes I keep the same names and characters through different fics that arent even related or set in the same AU.
Like, the Laughing Näkki shop you see in Watery? It's owned by Finnish couple Katja and Hannu.
In the alternate reality where Saga lived in Watery, they were always delighted for her and Logan to visit their shop.
In the Valhalla Nursing Home I added 3 cut characters back in: 3 elderly ladies who watch the koskela ads in their spare time and may or may not be having a crush on them.
There are Kalevala Knights who miss Jaakko so they sew on memorial patches to their jackets.
Watery used to be a thriving fishing place and lumbermill spot. The men working there inspired and aspired the Koskelas as young boys.
I'm reading the fic Momentum by Deafleader on ao3 and they've given various Cult of the Tree members names and personalities and **chefs kiss** I love when that happens. It makes the stakes feel even more real and the whole town comes alive.
@autisticwriterblog Ahti/Norman Saga also sheds fun perspectives into these characters' lives.
I also loved the friendship between Rose and the Koskelas in @entropicquilibriumofchaos works, giving u more insight on the festivities around Bright Falls etc.
