tauriel is not only a wonderful (though imperfect) addition to the hobbit movies, she’s also one of the most important characters. without her leaving mirkwood, thranduil wouldn’t have had the motivation to chase after her and legolas and the battle of the five armies would have been a lot different. also, she and kili together represent open-mindedness and the desire to reach out beyond what you know and without her that would have been lost
