Hannigram beating Johnlock on the most iconic yaoi couples poll on Twitter is like. okay on one hand. I don't think hannigram is 'more iconic' but I do think that they're better in every single regard including being actually fucking canon lmao

Meliora/Popestar Ghouls guide
I noticed some people still have trouble telling the Ghouls apart. Specifically Meliora era Ghouls. So i'll try to make things easier for all of you :)
WARNING: lots of text, my silly comments
Happy reading 😏
Learning which symbol/alchemic element (which was Martin Persner's/Omega's idea btw!) belongs to a certain Ghoul is essential:
Tumblr media
🜂- Fire, 🜄- Water, 🜁 - Air, 🜃 - Earth, 🜀 - Quintessence. The first Fire Ghoul was also called Alpha and the first Quintessence Ghoul - Omega. Why such names? Because Quintessence/Ether Ghoul had Ω sticker on his guitar and fans started calling him Omega and his counterpart - Alpha. These names just fit them perfectly. Meliora era was unique because neither of previous Papas, nor Cardinal/Papa 4 called Ghouls by their names/elements. Only Papa III did that.
There were few changes of lineups during Era 3 and some Ghouls were given different names by fans. Simply because naming their elements wasn't enough. Examples will be seen below.
Ways to tell them apart when they are on stage:
Their instruments and stickers.
They are placed in certain areas of the stage: Quintessence and Earth on Papa's right, Water in the middle, Air and Fire on Papa's left.
Different body types, eyes, rings, bracelets and tattoos.
The way they behave.
When they are off stage, on promo photos etc just take a look at their chests.
Even though every Ghoul has 5 elements embroidered on their suits, their respective element is highlighted.
HQ pictures are pretty helpful if y'all wanna find your favorite Ghoul.
Tumblr media
(from left to right: Air, Earth, Omega/Quintessence, Water and Alpha/Fire)
Also check this video of Papa III introducing Ghouls.
2015 lineup:
Air Ghoul #1. Simply Air. Joined Ghost in 2011. No tattoos, no rings. Usually quite calm on stage, favorite gesture is🤘 . Was the tallest Ghoul till 2017. Had cool keytar solo. Didn't move much.
Tumblr media
Pebble aka Earth Ghoul #2. Joined Ghost in June 2015. Smol (yes, smaller than Papa). Has intense stare. Literal beast when it comes to playing drums. Had a special way of throwing sticks to fans (literally footballed them into the crowd lol). Funny one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quintessence Ghoul #1 aka Omega. Terzo's favorite Ghoul. His butt was smacked and grabbed by Papa countless times during Year Zero solo. Known for his stomping, graceful guitar playing style, has big silver rings on both hands and pretty eyes. Has the cutest laugh. Did lots of interviews when Special Ghoul wasn't around. Loves Abba. Has been in the band from 2010 till july 2016.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Water Ghoul #4 aka Delta. Slightly shorter than Papa III. Joined in 2015. Sometimes kicks air (literal air, not his fellow Ghoul) on stage, also filled in for Alpha (when he injured his shoulder) and Omega for a few shows. Played rhythm guitar after Omega left. Has no rings, no visible tattoos, but has mad skills. Allegedly he's the one who tried to kick the dude who got on stage and kissed Terzo lol
His regular bass Omega's guitar
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fire Ghoul #1 aka Alpha. Popular among fans. Hangs out with every Ghoul on stage, especially with Water and Pebble. Loves cameras, does✌ a lot, humps his guitar sometimes. Enjoys attention, a bit horny:) Also did a few interviews (mostly with Omega), has strong accent, also speaks Italian. Has rings and tattoos on both hands (had none during era 1 and 2!). Taller than Papa. Joined in 2010, left in november 2016.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2016
Omega left in july, so Water took over rhythm guitar and the first Ghoulette of the Ghost, Mist, was introduced. This lineup toured till the end of the year and nobody returned for Popestar tour in 2017.
Quintessence Ghoul #2. Basically just Water, but with different guitar and highlighted QE symbol on his uniform.
Tumblr media
Mist Ghoulette aka Water#5. Tiny💜, unlike Copia's Ghoulettes she wore the same outfit and mask (that looked a bit too big for her) just like other Ghouls. Badass bass player, has a ring, a tattoo on her finger and painted nails. Veeeeery calm. Cute as hell. Alpha liked her a lot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fire, Earth and Air Ghouls were same as in 2015:
Tumblr media
(from left to right on this picture: Mist, Quintessence #2 (aka Delta/Water Ghoul#4), Alpha/Fire, Earth/Pebble, Air)
2017
All of the previous Ghouls left and the new pack replaced them. If you see Ghouls who are +- same height as Papa, that's them!
Tumblr media
(Dewdrop/Water #7, Aether/Quintessence #3, Zephyr/Air #2, Ifrit/Fire #2, Ivy/Earth #3)
Ifrit aka Fire Ghoul #2. Chaotic, hyperactive, Papa's hype man. Same height as Terzo, sweet bean, has wiiiide chest dorito shaped No tattoos, no rings. Spins, dances, jumps a lot. Gets "shot" during Ghuleh/Zombie Queen. No 🜂 sticker on his guitar. Only toured till 2018.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aether aka Quintessence Ghoul #3. Beefy, jumps a lot, has rings and a bracelet. Always looks friendly. Plain black guitar with no QE symbol. Also pretty active, especially with his pal Ifrit. A bit taller than Papa III. Ran after Terzo when he got gragged off the stage by Papa Nihil's people. Joined in 2017, left in 2022.
P.S. since he's not Omega, his butt was safe during Year Zero solo 🙃
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dewdrop aka Water Ghoul #6 aka Sodo. Smaller than Terzo. Has an aggressive guitar playing style. A bit horny (it got worse). No visible tattoos. Proudly played bass with someone's panties. Syncs with Ifrit and Aether during Ghuleh/Zombie Queen outro. Became Fire Ghoul #3 in 2018. He's still in the Ghost (as of february 2024).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zephyr aka chAir Ghoul #2. Sits on chair, a lot :) Charming, more active than previous Air ghoul. Loses it during Monstrance Clock, Per Aspera Ad Inferi and Cirice. Could be a great DJ. Almost the same height as Papa. Has a ring. His Mummy Dust keytar solo -[X]. Only toured till 2018.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ivy aka Earth Ghoul #3. Underrated, many don't know much about him. Was present only during European leg of the Popestar tour (from march till july). Has brown eyes, a tattoo and bracelets. Same height as Ifrit. Wasn't around much, but still did a great job. Was later replaced by Mountain.
Tumblr media
Mountain aka Earth Ghoul #4. Joined Ghost in july 2017. The tallest Ghoul. Hates shoes. Has a tattoo on the finger of his right hand, but you won't see shit on photos from this era because he wasn't photographed much and drummers usually get less attention than others in general:/ Quite calm comparing to Pebble. He's still in the band (as of february 2024).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honorable mentions:
Special Ghoul aka Phil. Has green eyes, speaks Swedish. Did lots of interviews, showed up to grab a few awards for Ghost, worships cats and loves Abba. Literally Papa in disguise (aka Fire Ghoul's uniform and mask). Has been in the shadows since 2017.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cowbell Ghoul. The myth, the legend. Played cowbell during "Ritual" and "If You Have Ghosts" a few times at the end of the Popestar tour in 2016. Tall, has a posture of a shrimp, always got shooed by Papa. Many want him back.
Tumblr media
Aaaand that's it. I hope it was helpful. Thanks for reading :)

Can, I ask, why do you think Yuuji is one of the character that is so underated in JJK? He is the mc, but many people (in fandom) treat him like a side character? At first, I don't think so, but I love many shounen, and somehow Yuuji is one of the mc that is underated in their own story....
Sorry if I'm wrong, just I love Yuuji and want him to get the spotlight he deserve....
I wouldn't say you're wrong, Anon! In fact, I would say he is an underrated character. Yes, fairly popular, but when it comes to how the fandom treats him compared to characters like Gojo, Yuji is Underrated.
I feel exactly how you feel about Yuji. To me, he is the best JJK character. Oh, yeah, I'm being bias, whatever, but it's how I feel.
My guess as to why the fandom treats him like a side character because Yuji isn't like how most older gen MCs are written, let alone the others of the cast.
Let's be real, when the mid-late 2010s rolled around, how fandoms started to treat the new age MCs is opposite of their treatment of other MCs. It's because they're a different formula and honestly, I feel like folks who bash on Yuji and others like Tanjiro and Izuku, just don't want to try something different.
They're used to the MCs who speedruns their training and powerups and suffer little to no drawbacks, "trauma, what trauma" and want to be the best because they got an ego and pride they don't want hurt.
Today's MCs? Pain, not afraid to show a range of emotions, training? Oh, they get the hang of it but still a lot to learn and watch out! They have the scars to prove that they almost lost an arm!
Now focusing on Yuji, as I said he's not like other JJK characters.
He's not overpowered, but he's not weak either. He's a bit of a goof and he's says he's an idiot, but he actually isn't all dumb he makes himself out to be. He's not flashy, but he has amazing moments where he gets to show off.
He has a goal to get strong, not being he wants to be the top or anything. He just wants to help people.
He has a sad backstory, but it's only until later we realize how messed up it is and even still we don't have his reaction to realizing those messed up bits. Yuji was raised by his grandfather and he states he is a loner. But unlike how we see with most characters, Yuji is relatively fine with that. He brushes off knowing about his parents, unlike most MCs who would literally beg for answers. He's a loner, but he's not a loser. Note how people around him in his hometown treats him. They gave him a nickname to reflect his impressive physical prowess that amazes them and yet, he doesn't care for the popularity.
Yuji has this balance to him where he's both spontaneous but also pretty chill. A lot of the cast outshines Yuji because they are more showy than Yuji, even calm characters.
Unlike Gojo and even Yuta, Yuji is literally what you call the audience surrogate. Through him, we learn about the Jujutsu world while experiencing (growth).
From the start of their stories (referring to JJK 0 and Gojo's Past Arc), both Gojo and Yuta are established as powerful sorcerers from the start. Yuta may have had inexperienced but he was still recognized as a powerful kid. Both are born lucky with having such powers. The most Yuta and Gojo really develop and change is their personalities and attitudes towards certain ideas. That's it. They don't even have to do anything and immediately their auras show who they are.
In contrast to Yuji, how is he recognized?
As just Sukuna's vessel. Most of the time, he is literally called that. When he's recognized by his strength and abilities it's when he actively has to fight. Then it's like "oh, so he does have capabilities". Yuji actually has to show he can be just as capable as the others because when people first look at him it's "Sukuna's vessel" or back in Sendai it's "Tiger of West Middle".
It's not "Yuji".
Hell, he'll even be compared to Maki. It's not "Maki's like Yuji". No, it's "Yuji is like Maki". Megumi is the first character to do this. Maki is unique enough that if someone, in this case Yuji, displays a similarity to her, she is the template.
However, for Yuji, while he's unique it's almost like it's not enough to be acknowledged until he has to show them. Like, he has to prove something when he actually doesn't care to do that. Yuji doesn't care to get stronger than the next person, especially at this point. If anything, he seems to be the only one from the very start recognize that none of this is a test of strength when people are dying. Note how he acts during a fight. Every major to majorly minor character has displayed some sort of enjoyment out of a fight or fights to show they're not weak.
Not a single time has Yuji ever even smiled. Look back at all the fights and you will see that he hasn't done such a thing. He fights not because it's a game. He fights because he has to and only that.
And it's not like it gets better for him because he later identifies himself as "a cog". It's like Yuji never really had his own identity.
He's the odd one out.
It's how I think some of the fandom sees him. Without an identity, without recognizable traits. Hell, go on any post that praises Yuji and Yuji alone and there's gonna be a hater to bring up another character.
To some, I feel like Yuji only exists to them to hate on. Only a tool to bring in their praising of other characters to put him down as if that's all he's worthy of. It's a damn shame, too, that people actually feel the need to bring down a character to build their faves. Oh, feel like your fave can't stand on their own and show their greatness?

This seems false, what do you think about it?
I find it highly unlikely. Unless someone gives me a legit link to it, I wouldn't consider it. Lots of fake interviews of Kishi are doing rounds in this fandom. And Kishi would never say something like this given how he has treated Sakura's character for 700 chapters and beyond. This part is from his 2010 interview (at Jump Fiesta Tokyo-Japan) :
Tumblr media
When the interviewer asked Kishi about Sakura, and called her a detestable girl (most people can see how Sakura's character is written as a detestable character, can't speak for delusional people), Kishi replied in a very convenient manner - "Realistic girls are like that..."
Lol. Once he calls his character realistic, what can one say? Realistic characters are never black and white, they stand in the grey area. So you can get away by saying - "Oh, she is realistic", without expanding on it.
Shounen characters are generally larger than life type characters to create a large impact since they serve a pedagogic purpose for its target group. People who are from the good guys camp, are generally taken as good, people who are from the bad guys camp are generally perceived as bad. So of course it would confuse people when Sakura is from the good guys camp but acts like a total douchebag. And naturally they would ask questions about it. But Kishi totally avoided to take the more controversial position by saying - she is realistic.
We know Sakura's character can be realistic, many women are the way she is. But is she a good role model for women of any place at any time? No. She doesn't really serve the pedagogic purpose other characters do. She is a negative person, selfish and immature. We know that. But Kishi cannot say it explicitly in his interviews because it would lead to all the other kinds of controversial questions, and would potentially open a can of worms for him. First question would be - If she is from the good guys camp and remains till the end, why did you write her as negative, even after she got so popular? You could have used her character's popularity with the girls to say something inspiring, something kind. So why didn't you? Any other writer would have jumped at the chance. Writers are supposed to work off the popularity of characters in a medium such as commercial serialilized manga.
Kishi kept writing her as detestable. If he could, he would have told them - I wrote her that way because I needed plot device for Naruto and Sasuke's romance which I was writing in the disguise of ninja manga. Team seven is about S and N. It's a love story about them and Sakura doesn't figure anywhere in their relationship and I want to make it clear by showing why.
And I have a feeling quite a lot of Sakura's characterisation comes from his personal experience of women. Of course he couldn't say all that. But he can be indirect about it. Although when you are indirect about something so many times, with context it becomes quite direct. Hehehe
Just look how Gege responded when he was asked a difficult question from Kubo. Female characters are not given much weight in shounen given its target audience. Most female characters in shounen aren't even given half the character development male characters get. And look at Japanese society, it's so patriarchal, who's surprised their representation of female characters is so backward? I doubt most of these mangakas get out very much, to actually put some effort in knowing how women act and why.
Look at Kubo's interview with Gege. Gege's female characters are kickass, as strong as men, as smart and well developed. They have agency, self worth and esteem. Their characters don't revolve around male characters. But female characters like these are beyond Kubo's imagination lol. Look at the female characters in Bleach hahaha. So this is what he asked Gege.
Tumblr media
Kubo finds Jjk women formidable because he cannot even fathom independent women, women who don't depend on men for everything. Lol. They can walk shoulder to shoulder with men, they aren't less than men, like they are in most shounen. But of course, Gege cannot tell Kubo these things. Hehe. Kubo is his senior, and the Japanese have a whole set of etiquette on how to behave with one's senpai. Gege won't say anything even remotely offensive to Kubo, so the best way to deal with such things is to be vague and use self deprecating humor, so as to not appear confrontational, it's a communication tactic. I also use these kinds of tactics when talking to difficult people or people in high positions I don't agree with. I have interviewed hundreds of people in my work. So I understand that one needs to be subtle even in their disagreements.
In Shippuden, later on, Sakura was written with heroine like qualities. So what this means is that Kishi doesn't have a very good opinion on either women or women in shounen. She does get some footage in the manga, where other characters praise her skills, like one would expect a heroine to get. She confesses to Sasuke and Naruto both. Never mind the rejection from both. But it's clear that Kishi would never have made Naruto end up with Sakura who treated Naruto this badly. Kishi is not a fool. He plainly says that she comes off as detestable because that's how she was written. Lol.
Lots of rumours have been doing rounds about Naruto's remake or live action film etc. but as far as I know, nothing such has actually materialised. So I wouldn't worry about it either.
I think it's high time that SS, NH and NrSk accept the reality and move on. It's been years. Sasuke is gay. Naruto is gay. Was established as closeted gay in both parts one and two. He would not suddenly defy his character traits and become straight just because NrSk can't keep it in their pants. So pathetic tch. Guys, there is nothing for you in Naruto except heartbreak. Grow up and move on.
SNS at least have legit reason to still be hopeful. The het shippers have nada. Zilch. Zero. Hehe. But well, who can fight desperation? Not these peeps.

How do you think Dark Shadows would differ if made today? Would it still be the cult classic or is that kind of writing lost to us?
with the disclaimers that I don't think you can set out to make a cult classic, and also I only know as much about the entertainment industry as the next person, and also I don't really think the writing in Dark Shadows is that good, I do think it's an interesting question! I'll do my best.
To start: for me, the lion's share of the show's enduring appeal is in its earnestness, and part of that is the palpable shoestring budget. things like flubbed lines, camera man and mic shadows in the shot, and other genuine mistakes are part of what you watch the show for, they do not detract but add to the experience. this contributes a similar sense of watching live theatre (paired with most of the core cast being new york theatrically trained and bringing that acting style with them) because you know you're seeing something usually done in one take, where the mistakes bleed through, where who the actors are as people is alongside them on the stage. they flub, and recover, and this is part of the story: so too do the Collinses make vast mistakes, and go on. it is an imperfect world riddled with faults.
This is not something you're going to get in the current media landscape from one of the big networks like ABC; I find it almost impossible to imagine a daytime show being produced with the kind of natural errors Dark Shadows contains. To capture that same kind of poor theatre troup earnestness you would have better success as either a) actual serial theatre, b) a webseries / tiktok series / etc, c) a low-budget independent or college tv station, or d) a miniseries, possibly. If a major network took it on and purposefully put those mistakes in, it would not feel the same. I'm a bit bored of the constant insincerity/irony in a lot of 2020's media, and I think it would rapidly veer into that genre of work.
As far as being a daytime serial, specifically, I don't think the current media environment is exactly right: part of the reason they aired a gothic horror soap opera to begin with is it was part of the broader cultural conversation, next to television like Bewitched, The Addams Family, I Dream of Jeanie, The Munsters, The Twilight Zone, etc. American entertainment in the late 60's had a love affair with the occult (with witches, monsters, ghosts, the works) and this permeated broad aspects of arts and culture: The Haunted Mansion opened at Disneyland in 1969, Monster Mash was number 1 on the Billboard chart in 1962 (and #91 in '70, and #10 in '73). Pair that with prominent artists like John Zacherle's discography, Vincent Price's film credits, 70's gothic horror comedies like The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Phantom of the Paradise, and of course the wild popularity of gothic romance paperbacks in the 60's and 70's. This isn't everything, of course, but just to broad-strokes the landscape.
It's not that we don't have supernatural media today — horror is one of the highest performing movie genres, and there are shows like Ghosts and WWDITS, and Watcher Entertainment — but it's not quite the same explosion of culture (in my opinion). Making a gothic romance-horror-vampire serial would be more at home in the 2010's among the love affair with Twilight, True Blood, The Originals, the dominance of horror game Youtube, the height of Supernatural, Crimson Peak, What We Do In the Shadows 2014, etc. One imagines this is why the 2012 film adaption came out when it did; the cultural moment was conducive, overall. Most nighttime network television today (and I am generalizing) is dominated by legal, medical, and police drama; current soap-operas (especially General Hospital) reflect that, and there are only three soaps getting aired, period. Nothing is impossible: but a soap in the Dark Shadows vein (ha) getting green-lit today seems unlikely, vastly unlikely with the ebb in vampire fervor.
What I will say that works better in today's production moment for a potential series revival (revision?) is we're starting to see an embrace of practical set building / prop making / etc that was lost to us for a little while, especially among the horror genre. For example: Blumhouse's FNAF utilizing the Jim Henson creature shop, the beautiful set work on Haunted Mansion 2023, the use of practical effects in Beetlejuice 2. This is something that to me feels integral, for making Dark Shadows. You may disagree! But I don't think the heavy dependence on CGI did 2012 any favors. The magic inherent in the show (curses, ghosts, whatever you want to call it) is supported by movie magic and the invisible (or sometimes visible) artisanal hands crafting the world for us.
Moreover, with Bridgerton, especially (but also Emma, Little Women, The Gilded Age, The Great, etc) there's been a bit of a renaissance of lush period pieces. The current fascination with historical romances (and anachronism!) lends itself very well to a dive into 1795 or 1897. My best guess is that if we produced a revival right now, there'd be a very heavy focus on one of the alternate time periods (probably 1795), and they would lean on anachronism (and sex) very heavily, and the present year would be a very very minor presence, if they bothered with it at all – and maybe they wouldn't!
As for the writing, specifically? There's nothing that extraordinary about Dark Shadows' writing, to me, what is extraordinary is the characters and the actors' management of them (and Lela's direction) and what they are able to do with the script (aside from a few standout moments of memorable lines). There are brilliant television writers out there who could write a lovely gothic adaption. Some of our priorities in terms of storytelling are different: one thing you would have to acknowledge that the original show rarely dealt with and never performed well on is race. However a lot of the dominant concerns in the cultural landscape do reflect the issues at the forefront of the themes in the writing: especially women's bodily autonomy (Barnabas' hypnotism and forcing Josette's identity onto the nearest brunette/the inherent violation of biting and enthrallment, the way his victims are 90% of the time poor women, or sex workers, or the criminalized and otherwise vulnerable); women's economic position (Liz running the house and business, Victoria and Maggie's subject to endless horrors for a wage, Carolyn free to kick getting married down the road because she's economically secure) and the rigid dominance of the hetero-nuclear family structure as it is entwined with economics in America, and its subversions; and, especially, the way that the American houses (architectural, economic, genealogical) are built on the exploitation of those beneath them, often demanding the physical sacrifice of bodies and blood.
If I had my choice — and this is not what I think is probable, what is probable is a lean into the literal vampires and witches and sex associated in a modern-day setting — a current version of Dark Shadows would lean heavily into those themes, and take the reflection of the literal monsters (Barnabas, Angelique, Quentin, Laura, etc.) on the metaphorical monsters (Elizabeth, Roger, Burke, David, etc.) seriously. Preferably I'd want it set in the 1960's-70's again, because, like Collinsport, we seem to repeat the same sins over and over again, currently we are engaged with and reversing much of the progress that was made by social movements of that era, so in some senses we are returned to that time, culturally. Preferably I would emphasize the mystery? the permeation between the boundary of human and monstrosity? that dominated the early supernatural arcs with Laura and the beginning of Barnabas; and emphasize the terror, especially the terror of violence contained within the charming, and genteel, and refined, and beautiful. Above all I would not begin any first episode of anything with Barnabas, who should be first and foremost a reflection on the family so ready to accept him as like kind.
cult classic? I don't know. I think there's an appetite for earnestness; for long-form storytelling; for the quotidian — to learn about characters as they eat breakfast and bicker, as well as fight monsters. and theatre-trained enunciation that you can hear. I would hope, with sufficient intimacy training, the kissing and sex scenes would be a little better and not make me so very miserable.

Oh Hey, Some Delisted Sonic Games
Tumblr media
If there's one thing that anyone knows about the Sonic franchise, it's that the games have been up and down since 2006. On one hand you get games like generations and colors, on the other you get Boom and Shadow the Hedgehog, that's also their nose picking hand. There's even a name for this era, fans call it the Sonic Dark Age, and wouldn't you know it, some of these games have been delisted by Sega. A list of Sonic games that can only be played with either the original hardware, or good old piracy for those less legally inclined.
Quick disclaimer; for some reason there are a bunch of spin offs lumped into this era, racing games for example. Since they're not mainstream titles, they won't be included. There is also a lot of fan discourse as to when the dark age ends. It ranges from anywhere between 2009 to today. I'm sure I'll touch on those at some point in the future.
It goes without saying that the dark age was kicked off with the release of Sonic 06, infamous for being glitchy, not well optimized, and having a strange story with clashing character designs. It's very strange seeing proportional human designs alongside Sonic and friends. I could go on beating this dead horse, but I can't do much with a grease stain that's now a permanent mark on the floor. All we need to know is that it is one of the games Sega delisted as part of some spring cleaning back in 2010.
Two others were The Secret Rings, and The Black Knight, two games that were originally a part of a story book trilogy that put the characters in story book settings. The third game was cancelled due to poor reception and sales of the previous two, looking through the reviews, there were a lot of control issues.
Sonic Unleashed has recently had a resurgence in popularity, but at the time it didn't get much love due to the were-hog parts clashing heavily with the regular Sonic levels. It also had the typical issue of games back then wanting to be God of War.
Finally there's Sonic Boom, a game that was supposed to be the head of a multi media movement for the franchise. It was hyped up with all the tie ins. There were of course the toys, the comics and the show were very well received, and then the game came out on WiiU and it was was buggy, poorly written, poorly animated, and on a platform that was hemorrhaging money for Nintendo. The story behind how this game became the way it is is an epic saga full of miscommunication, deadlines, and fickle minds. It's honestly a miracle this game was even released. It was only released on WiiU and support for the console ended just this past April, so unless you have one of Nintendo's worst selling consoles, you're out of luck.
Most of the games listed above have been in Sega's shame corner for some time now, rereleases are unlikely except for maybe Unleashed. Their appeal is mostly for the novelty of playing a bad game, which is always a fun idea if you wanna see how much a game can struggle.
Now of course little old me wouldn't endorse piracy, I would never remind everyone how easy it is to download an emulator. While also reminding them to keep their anti viral software and computer up to date. You wouldn't download a car after all right?

"otacon's favorite vocaloid is miku" is basic. obviously he loves miku (who doesn't?) but i think he's a gumi kinda guy u know
like i think he knows vaguely of miku from when she releases (he's an otaku online in 2007, of course he does) but he's only like semi-aware of vocaloid...? like he's heard a few vocaloid songs in passing, seen miku in a few flash animations, but then post-big shell he ends up stumbling across megu megu ☆ fire endless night by samfree & he's holy fuck they make eurobeat with this shit? and then he's hooked (otacon loves eurobeat to me. if / when i make a playlist for him it will be a lot of eurobeat)
side note but i like to think otacon loves to dance parapara but he sucks absolute balls at it. like he just cannot memorize the moves and he's all out of sync but he drags snake into it and they both end up laughing so hard they have to sit down on the couch and its ok because they had fun :)
also i think otacon still listens to vocaloid long after mgs4 (sorry kojima but i am REJECTING the "i used to be an anime otaku" line. his ass is STILL an anime otaku) like i bet sunny gets into it just by chance (she's a kid online in the 2010s of course she likes vocaloid) and she tells him about it and hal gets to go full "well back in my day" and sunny is like awestruck that her uncle hal knows so much about hatsune miku. i think sunny's favorites are hime & mikoto meika and she makes raiden cosplay them with her at least once (sunny is hime because that's her favorite of the two). raiden seemed too grumpy about it to actually cosplay them but he ends up having a lot of fun i think raiden is a really big fan of cosplaying it's like an escape from his real life if only for a little while.
if i had money i would pay someone to draw raiden & sunny as the meikas im actually thinking about this so much now. please imagine otacon getting dragged into this and cosplaying gumi because she's his favorite. if snake got roped into it he'd cosplay miku (probably to match otacon but also because the mental image of solid snake in a miku wig is really funny to me). please imagine, if you will, otasune but they are cosplaying miku & gumi as they appear in hachi's song matryoshka ok?
other characters' fav vocal synths include:
otacon likes gumi (as prev stated)
snake just picks miku to match
sunny likes hime meika
raiden picks mikoto meika to match sunny. he doesn't know any of the other ones' names
if liquid lived past shadow moses his favorite would be kasane teto because he's like tch. fuck those STUPID vocaloids. teto goes against the flow she's a rebel. she's just like me he thinks
meryl gets introduced to this post-mgs4. she doesn't have a favorite but johnny really likes luka
solidus would hate those fucking things. he hates music in general i think
naomi likes eleanor forte because she has this weird american-british accent like she does
otacon shows mei ling luo tianyi because he knows she speaks chinese and he's like well maybe she'll find this cool, but he's not well-versed in chinese vocal synths so he just picks the most popular one. she absolutely loves what she sees and gets really into it and her favorite ends up being xin hua
campbell, like meryl, does not really care for this shit, but he's heard porter robinson songs like on the fucking radio or something and he's heard sunny talk about this shit so he's like yeah i like that one. everyone always tells him her name is avanna but he never remembers it
raiden's son (who i think his name is little john) gets into it because sunny shows him it. he likes utauloids more because he can actually mess around with them for free!!! his favorite is momo momone he likes pink things
jetstream sam likes rin kagamine. i dont know that much about sam i still havent watched mgr but i know this is true
psycho mantis also likes avanna (also because of porter robinson) but unlike campbell he actually remembers her name
if olga lived shed be like fuck i gotta pick one to appease sunny. sunny shows her a list and is like "well what's your favorite color" (olga likes purple) and so she ends up with yuzuki yukari as her fave
most of the big boss-era characters do NOT care!!!! but like if they were still alive and they met suny? they WOULD care. kaz likes vflower
ocelot gets assigned tsurumaki maki once sunny finds out he was blonde when he was younger. he may or may not get roped into cosplaying her
venom likes nekomura iroha trust me
quiet likes fukase. again trust me. (i also think liquid secretly likes fukase but he has to keep up his utau-is-better façade)
gray fox sadly died (the first time at least) way too early to experience vocaloid. if he lived i think he would like ia but the only song of hers he's ever heard is a tale of six trillion years and a night by kemu
sniper wolf just picks len at random when otacon asks her if she has a favorite
emma likes meiko. trust
if the boss ever met sunny i think she would pick akita neru. she doesn't know that she's a fanloid she just got shown triple baka by sunny and was like ok sure i like the yellow one
eva just says her favorite is the same as whoever she's talking to (everyone knows she does this and tries to corner her with multiple people at once to see who she'll pick) but she likes lily
para-medic likes that one opera one i have to google her name hold on. PRIMA!!! i was gonna day operetta but that's a monster high character i think
strangelove likes macne nana. dont ask me how she found out about her but she likes the design idek if she's heard any macne nana songs
wow i got very um chatty. i just wanted to make a post that i think otacon's fave vocal synth is gumi.... but now EVERYONE has a favorite one...... damn. what a world we live in!!!

Hey matsuda lover anon here!
so I was thinking about something. So I looovee yoosung very much and for a long while in this fandom being a yoosung fan was quite a tough job because of how people wrote him off as annoying immature incestuos etc.
But as the years went by and we enter the 2020s I have seen things getting quite alot better for us yoosung fans. Of course i am not going to lie there are times i see people mischaracterising him hating him for being 'immature' and even when things have gotten better I still have quite a tendency to be very guarded in the fandom because it hurts me personally to see him getting hate.
But I will still admit that from somewhere around 2021 opinions on him started to get more positive and people have started to love him as the kindhearted loving person he is and actually see that he is not incestuos but a depressed guy who is genuinely working hard to be better and being resilient and optimistic in his struggles.
I partly believe it is because of how from the 2020s there is this movement of embracing feminity in contrast to the whole "disliking anything feminine" shtick we had back in 2010s. And yeah while yoosung is a man, alot of the hate he had gotten is like had misogynistic undertones like many people disliked him for being emotional (and hating someone for being emotional has roots in misogyny because being emotional has been mostly associated with women and the whole "women being emotional" has been used as a reason to downplay and suppress them).
Besides, a very large portion of yoosung fans are sapphic queer people and i had asked my lesbian yoosunger friends and they said that they love him because he is feminine (ofc they dont represent all the sapphic queer yoosungers but my lesbian friends made me THINK).
Oh and I see this similar pattern regarding matsuda in the death note fandom. Now I am quite recent in the Death Note fandom but knowing how Shonen fandoms usually despise emotional characters wayyy more than shoujo or women-targeted medias like mysme (because shonen fandoms have more men who are less tolerant beings and shame their own kind when vulnerable) so I was actually expecting matsuda being disliked by the Death Note fandom. And no surprise he seemed quite underrated and not well liked for being emotional immature and most importantly a hindrance to the Kira task force because of his positive opinions on Kira because of his own "black and white" mentality and "sense of justice". But again even for matsuda, he seems to get quite popular recently and some people even say that he is "overrated"(which is not true i want more matsuda love).
I will also say I see the same for Misa Amane as well, though unlike yoosung and matsuda her rise in popularity as an appreciatable character is more directly related to the surge in embracing feminity because she is a woman.
Hmm, this is a very interesting perspective to consider! Neither Yoosung nor Matsuda are my favorites (though I never disliked either of them tbh), so I cannot speak on their fandom perception as thoroughly as I could with, let's say, Choi twins or Rika. However, I do agree that Yoosung had to suffer a ton of very gross mischaracterization over the years. Granted, this case can be made for pretty much every mm character, especially when the fandom was at its most popular (which is why I honestly hate to think back on that time, and I adore the smaller but more mindful space we all share with each other now).
Reading through your ask made me think and look back on a lot of this fandom discourse I've seen over the years, and I can't help but agree. I never thought of looking at Yoosung's particular case of mishandling his themes and traits in the fandom from a misogynistic perspective. There is definitely some merit to that thought, though. Yoosung is someone who shows off his emotions the most openly out of anyone in the RFA, and he's subsequently a very sweet and romantic kind of guy. He also expresses some very compelling inner struggles with his masculinity in game on multiple occasions, which is also something worth to consider. I've seen and talked to plenty of queer folks in mm fandom over the years who personally headcanon him as trans! So, in a way, Yoosung always had some queer energy about him. Which is lovely! It's great to see folks loving and appreciating him from such a personal place of love.
As for Matsuda, I actually was in a Death Note fandom a while back and, yeah, misogyny was very much a big issue. I have no idea what is it like today, but back then both Matsuda and Misa were... definitely not fan favorites to say the least. I can't speak on Matsuda's behalf much, but, as a Misa fan, it was tough.
While I have tons of modern issues with fandom spaces currently, some things are definitely way better now. It's great to see female characters being perceived with more depth, and it's definitely refreshing to see feminine men be loved and appreciated for who they are, instead of being mocked and ridiculed like they were before. Not that these issues have disappeared completely. But, it's a pleasant turn in the fandom spaces for sure!
Thanks for this insightful message, it was a very compelling read, Matsuda lover anon!

Creator of Berserk liked drawn childporn
It's never a surprise to find out the creators of moe garbage like Dragon Maid enjoy childporn, but since Kentaro Miura drew in a gritty non-moe style there may be people who will be genuinely shocked to find out he actively advocated for drawn cp (this link is NSFW as it leads to a news site dedicated to Japanese erotica):
https://www.sankakucomplex.com/2010/06/10/kentaro-miura-vs-tokyo-loli-ban/
http://archive.fo/1NUow
Drawn childporn is legal in Japan, but some years ago there was the possibility of it being banned by the government. So in response this was drawn by Kentarou Miura as some sort of "PROOF" that drawn childporn stops pedophiles from molesting real kids (as far as we know he didn't cite any studies or articles to support this claim):
Tumblr media
The image depicts fictional children popular in drawn cp (such as Strike Witches) "shielding" real children from child molesters.
Among the characters Kentarou Miura has chosen to portray in a positive light is the main child from pedophile anime Kodomo no Jikan, which is about a nine year old who wants to fuck her 23 year old teacher. Miura drew her lifting her skirt in front of pedophiles:
Tumblr media
Actual screencap from Kodomo no Jikan to show how gross it is:
Tumblr media
Next time some weeb talks about how manly and badass Berserk is, point out that it's overrated shit and that Miura masturbated to nine year old children. lol.
There were also other manga authors who fought for drawn childporn to remain legal:
https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-03-15/creators-decry-tokyo-proposed-virtual-child-porn-ban
http://archive.fo/N7ati
People may also be surprised by some of the other supporters of drawn childporn listed, such as:
Tetsuya Chiba (Ashita no Joe), Gosho Aoyama (Detective Conan), Tooru Fujisawa (GTO), Kaiji Kawaguchi (Eagle, Zipang) Yoshitoshi ABe (Serial Experiments Lain) (his art looks like moe trash so it’s not surprising to those who run this blog that he likes drawn cp, but maybe other people will be surprised) Rumiko Takahashi (Ranma ½), Keiko Takemiya (Toward the Terra) and Moto Hagio (They Were Eleven).
Those last three are notable because otaku often promote them as “feminist idols” in the field of comics… even though they fight to keep drawn childporn legal. How feminist is it to fight for the production of porn depicting children getting raped?
If you don’t think Japan needs to restrict it’s sale on drawn childporn you’re insane. A lot of what gets published is toddler gangbang crap bordering on snuff that leads to real children getting raped, and unlike Miura we actually have proof of that claim.
See, the ultimate irony of Miura’s claims are that he’s chosen to depict Comic LO's childporn as something that keeps pedophiles from raping real children:
Tumblr media
When the opposite is true, as one of the authors published in Comic LO had a pedophile imitate his drawn childporn in order to gain access to and molest a real child:
https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2017-06-17/saitama-man-arrested-for-obscenity-claims-he-was-imitating-dojin-manga/.117488
https://archive.is/Cu3OO
That isn't the only time pedophiles have used lolicon to molest real children either, here's a CNN interview with Shihoko Fujiwara of Lighthouse https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lighthouse:_Center_for_Human_Trafficking_Victims where she speaks of another case where it happened:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaZWGq_KvIU&t=146s
So go fuck yourself, Miura.

Hi! I just recently discovered your blog and I love the concept of a universe with interweaving storylines. It's so clever and unique. I wanted to ask, since you have such a huge number of fics, which one is your favorite? I also love the idea of original characters because that's quite uncommon in this fandom but reminds me of fanfiction I used to read when I was younger. What's your inspiration for the characters? Are any of them based on you? Can't wait to read more of your work :) - 🍓
Oh, anon. This is every author's dream question, istg.
First of all, welcome! I hope you enjoy my masterlist and future fics to come. My favourite fic: tough, but I'll probably say About You. It was a deeply personal one and needed to be handled just right, but I was really happy with the end product because it established a dynamic between Namjoon and Kaya that I can't quite put into words. It's not one of my more popular works and I can understand why, but it's definitely the one I'm proudest of.
This would probably be followed by The Fifth: Part 2 and You Make Me Live (honourable mentions to Double Take and In Time).
You've nailed my reasoning for going the OC route; my favourite thing about fanfiction in the days of yore (ie the 2000s and early 2010s) was the range of OCs and the excitement of making up your own. It limits my reader base but I can't imagine writing any other way.
Inspiration - this could be a long one. The first OC I came up with was Dilara, and she was supposed to be a protagonist for an F1 fanfic series I'd started writing (yes, shocker, I used to write F1 fanfic). A lot about her was inspired by another F1 OC I'd written, Tracy McNeil (a sports journalist), including the messed up family background and the lowkey insecurity coupled with the need to prove herself. Dilara is definitely far more of a romantic than Tracy, though, and I'd largely chalk that up to the support network she has that takes care of her and allows her to lead with her heart more.
Kaya was next - she's not inspired by anyone in particular, but I was thinking of what Namjoon would be like as a partner; after long gruelling days of arguing with the company, keeping the younger members in line, dealing with pushy journos, he would come home to the most comforting person in the world with whom he would be completely different, free to be himself, vent if he needed to, and show a softer side he'd keep secret from the rest of the world.
Lia was the third and she honestly came to life when I was working with the marketing team in my company and had a shit ton of work, and she was initially my outlet. She quickly moulded to Jungkook's character, though, and the dynamic we all know and love just fell into place. She arrives at the right time to pull Jungkook out of a bit of a low phase and is the right amount of opposite of someone else.
Nari and Sooah, an unlikely pair, came together for me because of another fic I'd written for a different fandom. It was the protagonist and her best friend, the former who was a bit of a party girl and was in a very messy FWB with the male protagonist, and the latter who was her taller friend who worked all the time and fell for the unlikeliest person she could think of without even realising it.
Miso and Chae were the last two. Miso was a bit tough, and is somewhat inspired by Marianne Sheridan from Normal People, just a bit, in terms of her being a bit of a loner and rubbing people the wrong way. Don't want to give too much away, but she could've only been written opposite Yoongi.
Chae, despite being my baby, was one of the hardest to create - although, once I did, I just connected with her instantly. I wanted to write Hoseok being the opposite of his sunshine self, and the person to bring that out would have to be a hell of a character. Their initial childhood meeting is inspired by one of my all time favourite movies, Flipped.
(While I don't think I'm anything like any of my characters, Kaya, Lia and I probably share some similar habits, primarily working a lot and being too tired for drama. Parts of Chaeyoung are also inspired by my teen years - I cringe so hard when I think of those days.)

Advert Alchemy: Thinkbox’s Trick
In this series, Squideo has examined the best ways to turn advertising content into gold. Now that we’ve broken down the eight key ingredients, it’s time to dive deep into some examples of stellar advertising. This week, the advert in question was picked by Squideo’s Video Producer, Lesley Ovington.
When asked why this Thinkbox advert had become her favourite, Lesley said: “I love the entire series with Harvey because it’s so funny. I also had a Jack Russell Terrier growing up, and these adverts always reminded me of him. The entire series is great but the first one, Every Home Needs a Harvey, remains the best.”
Tumblr media
101 Thinkbox
Thinkbox is unlike other companies analysed in this series, as it’s a marketing body for commercial television in the United Kingdom. Since 2005, Thinkbox has existed to manage the advertising for British TV channels and help businesses marketing on these networks meet their marketing objectives.
It’s shareholders are four major UK television networks: Channel 4, ITV, Sky Media and UKTV. As the trade body for these hugely popular networks, Thinkbox has needed to think outside the box when enticing businesses to advertise. All of these channels have hugely successful shows linked to them, and the advertising produced by Thinkbox had to match the creative energy of its shareholders.
Tumblr media
Raining Cats and Thinkbox
Made with Red Brick Road, the advertising agency behind the iconic ‘Every Little Helps’ Tesco slogan, Thinkbox aired its Every Home Needs a Harvey advert in 2010 – five years after the trade body was created and was still relatively unknown to the general public. Every Home Needs a Harvey was only their second television advert ever; the first also made by Red Brick Road. According to the agency, the brief from Thinkbox was to educate media planners and marketing directors about the power of TV advertising.
“‘Harvey’ was born – a resourceful, talented dog, who uses TV to tell stories and to persuade. His first TV outing, created by us in 2010, was voted Ad of the Year by ITV1 viewers. TV ad revenues reached a record £5bn in 2014, continuing 5 years of successive growth.”
Television has seen a lot of competition in recent years as an advertising destination, especially as more viewers move away from television to advert-free streaming platforms. Comparatively cheaper adverts can also be run on social media, with algorithms used to ensure it ends up in front of the ideal demographic for your product. As Red Brick Road proves, however, revenue can still be generated from television adverts. Businesses invested £1.2 billion GBP in television advertising in 2021, a 42% increase in spending compared to 2020. With the cost-of-living crisis forcing consumers to unsubscribe from costly streaming services, this revenue may grow further as viewers return to public networks like Channel 4 and ITV.
Thinkbox & Me
ITV1 viewers named Every Home Needs a Harvey Ad of the Year in 2010, and Red Brick Road went on to produce two additional Harvey adverts for Thinkbox between 2010 and 2014. The advert was clearly popular when it aired, but that was thirteen years ago. What was it about this advert that stuck in the memories of so many people?
Tumblr media
Super Sell
Show don’t tell. That’s what Thinkbox accomplished by running Every Home Needs a Harvey. What better way to demonstrate the power of advertising than to create an advert about advertising. In the advert, Harvey presents a video to his potential adopters which sells the idea of choosing him amongst the line up of rescue dogs. The other dogs look cute, but the video shows everything else Harvey can offer.
To marketers watching the advert, it also showed what television marketing still had to offer. Times have changed, and mass public adverts are no longer constrained to intermission breaks, newspapers and billboards. As we explored in Advert Alchemy: The Location, modern marketers have an overwhelming choice of advertising destinations from social media to video games to eggs (that’s not a typo, CBS put adverts on eggs in 2006, go read the blog if you haven’t already). But television adverts haven’t been chased off the stage, advertisers just need to be more creative to attract attention away from phone screens.
Heavenly Harvey
The star of the advert, Harvey, was played by Sykes, a dog actor who appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Young Victoria and Doctor Who, as well as other notable films and television shows. In the year of his debut advert, he also acted in a John Smith’s Brewery advert alongside Peter Kay.
In the wake of the advert, Sykes’ Facebook page had 11,600 friends and he was getting offers to open pet shops around the country. Not bad for a rescue dog. He eventually retired in 2016 after going deaf, ending Thinkbox’s Harvey adverts in the process. Because who could follow such a good boy?
Monumental Music
Set to the 1974 song You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet by Canadian rock band Bachman-Turner Overdrive, the audience – like Harvey’s potential adopters – are quickly hooked into watching the advert. Like Cadbury’s Gorilla advert, the choice of such a popular song cannot be underestimated in the success of this advert.
The song peaked at number 2 in the UK singles charts the year of its release, beaten to the top by a Christmas song (Lonely This Christmas, Mud), which surprised the band who had been reluctant to release the song. You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet was introduced to a new generation in the mid-2000s thanks to one of Thinkbox’s shareholders: ITV. The network used the song for several years during its coverage of Formula One grand prix races, which reignited sales of this insanely catchy single thirty years after its release.
Content Worth Gold
What do you think? What made Thinkbox’s Every Home Needs a Harvey advert so successful? Watch the full advert below and let us know in the comments.

Reggae In China
Originally posted at musicinfo.io by Juri Kobayashi
Reggae has its roots deeply embedded in China or rather China has its roots deeply embedded in Reggae. The first immigrants from China came to Jamaica just before the turn of 1900. Most of these Chinese settlers came from the Hakka region in China commonly known nowadays as Shenzhen. They came after the abolition of slavery when there was lots of work to be found, settled into the new climate and culture and built their families.
Many of the session musicians came from families that had found their place in Jamaica as small business owners. Byron Lee is a name that is written into the history books of Reggae as the one who introduced the electric bass to reggae. From a Chinese-Jamaican mother and a Chinese father, Byron worked throughout his life producing music and performing in his band the Dragonaires.
Byron had produced the song Always Together for Shanghai singer, Stephen Cheng. Fitting in for Stephen was not Cheng’s typical ambition of his fellow countrymen and women in China and in his pursuit of the spotlight he gained the audience of Byron and was able to realize this track. Although it was thought that the Always Together was sung by a local in Jamaica it was a true musical collaboration from across oceans. As unusual as it was for a track to have such an obvious ‘Chinese’ element, it became a rocksteady gem.
We start to the first tastes of Reggae in China from the underground rock scene around 1982 with the Taiwanese legend Lo Ta-Yu 羅大佑 and his song Pedantry from his album of the same title. This was followed in Beijing by Cui Jian a.k.a. Beijing’s godfather of rock with hid debut album “從頭再來” in 1989.
Well known ska and reggae producers Byron Lee and Leslie Kong and other music industry professionals such as Neville Lee, Vincent and Patricia Chin founded some of Reggae’s biggest names into international fame like: Jimmy Cliff, The Maytals, and Bob Marley.
The nephew of Leslie Kong, I Kong and his son Shaquille “Skunga” Kong, carry on the family legacy. Connecting the circle, Skunga has worked with Leslie’s buddies Robbie Shakespeare and Sly Dunbar.
Long Shen Dao, known as China’s first real reggae band, has opened for The Wailers, as well as headlined some of the biggest festivals worldwide including the Strawberry Music Festival, Abi Reggae, and the Glastonbury Festival. They can be found on Netease and Weibo with 10’s of thousands of followers.
Today in China, reggae beats can be heard in rap, hip hop and pop music all over the country. It may take a little digging but it can be seen from the underground that it is growing. Local artists have tried some reggae songs or beats here and there for many decades.
Chinese Jamaican reggae artists and producers were visiting China more than ever before the pandemic, to reconnect with their roots, build connections between cultures, and spread reggae.
Event promoter Heavy HK, since 2005, has been bringing reggae stars such as Tippa Irie, Johnny Osbourne, Skarra Mucci, and Anthony B to the country for performances making them one of the first reggae event promoters and organizers in China.
Reality TV shows like The Rap of China have helped with the breakout of hip hop and rap in China in the 2000s and 2010s has also boosted reggae noting many Chinese musicians creatively integrating the two styles.
Reggae and today’s artists have managed to build a following in China. Though the niche is relatively small to the most popular music in China, its presence is powerful. Many reggae artists are recognizing the connection to China and are entering China with their music. The potential in China is unlike anywhere, to build a fanbase and collaborate with musicians who share a love for Reggae.

Malmö, Sweden — Sweden’s immigration policies are a big factor heading into elections next month on September 11th, when Swedes head to the polls to pick a new parliament, perhaps resulting in a new prime minister. The hard right Sweden Democrats party admits to having a neo-Nazi past and polls just ahead of the election show the party gaining political ground. Some observers say public concerns about Sweden’s immigration policies could mean a previously unthinkable coalition between the far right and moderate forces is on the verge of forming.
Erik Hedtjärn is a political editor at Stockholm’s Svenska Dagbladet newspaper. He tells VOA that a new political landscape is taking shape in Sweden ahead of the upcoming election and it’s unclear which coalition will take power. The Sweden Democrats, a populist party with ties to right wing extremism in the 1990s, gained parliamentary seats in the 2010 election. It appears to be growing further in popularity, according to polls, and could result in an unlikely coalition.
“A number of parties in Sweden still says that it’s actually unthinkable to cooperate or form an alliance with the Sweden Democrats because of their past. Another way of looking at it is we’ve made some polls where we’ve asked: Which party could you accept as part of the government? Interestingly enough. Sweden Democrats. More people can accept them as part of the government than the Green Party,” he said.
Hedtjärn says the Liberals/Moderates and other centrists to the right are likely to join forces with the Sweden Democrats party.
“So, we have two new coalitions that are the main alternatives in this election which makes it different in many ways. One of the interesting things now is that those coalitions joined a wide-range of parties. On the left, you have the left, far-left and centrists. The other side you have the Liberals party and the Sweden Democrats. Two kind of disparate coalitions which have in themselves a lot of tensions. It’s not really clear how a government would function that emanates from such a wide coalition,” he said.
Part of the Sweden Democrats’ appeal, observers say, plays on people’s fears about migration. Sweden took in the largest number of refugees per capita in the 2015 wave that hit Europe. Unlike the United States, there are no background checks on arrivals.

Sports Trying to Create it in the Football World
In most nations, the name regarding the game noise alike. Words just like football, fussball, futbol, futebol... don't merely sound the identical, these are the same game. Within the U. H., yet , they phone it soccer. Key League Soccer (MLS) as an United states professional soccer group has been close to for some time now.
Unlike some other American major little league sports, MLS really does not dominate typically the sport's public consideration on global scale, nor its champ is crowned because the 'World Champion'. MLS has been heading through constant advancement. Did it obtain significant public and media attention on the globe football? No!
Soccer as the 2nd, 7th or 10th most popular sport throughout the U. S i9000. doesn't come up with a good difference, the American public will even so follow the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE, MLB, NHL or perhaps NBA. The globe public would comply with those leagues together with same attention as they are world's most prominent athletics leagues.
In latest years with the globalization of multimedia, the planet sports scene is to alter; in that process, English football Leading League, promotes by itself as 'The Finest Show On Earth' and is found in fact the world's most popular and a lot watched sporting group, with an existing worldwide viewership regarding a split billion people and media salary for seasons 3 years ago to 2010 well worth over $5 billion dollars. In the event the world can watch football leagues like English Premiership or Spanish Una Liga, who will watch the Us major league sports activities other than local spectators? Will a part of the American general public turn to view overseas football associations at the same time? Such queries made soccer end up being an issue in the particular U. S sporting activities.
Every now and then, the LOCAL MLS officials would get up up from typically the drowsiness of being in shadows involving Top 4 United states major leagues around the time when World Cup uses places and it becomes evident just how immense the game of football will be in the conditions of world general public interest, media attention, sponsors.
As typically the noise around Entire world Cup passes, typically the MLS would drop back in sleepiness. It was not to end up like of which after the Planet Cup 2006 inside of Germany when typically the world public had clear picture associated with European football's modern stadiums, multi-million player contracts... the entire world athletics spotlight got the hold on soccer.
This time it's not the LOCAL MLS who is for taking the initiative regarding promoting MLS, it is the whole of Us professional sports enjoyment industry. It is usually an economic opportunity where the money revolving around the world football had been too great to become missed or discarded.
In read more of 2007, Oughout. S. soccer tried to take more than the planet football simply by storm by offering up David Beckham a $250million contract, typically the most expensive football player contract found in history from the sport, some described this as the package to create Beckham to be able to America is believed to be the biggest in sporting background. MLS sent out and about a note to the world.
Accompanied by summertime when European groups were between the conditions and the waters were still, LOCAL MLS got the wanted exposure with news stories being dominated with the Beckham family moving to LA. Did typically the stories overtake typically the world football mass media and public focus in favor regarding MLS yet? No!
Is $250 zillion worth of exposure in the end? Time can tell. Autumn came, European and international leagues are inside full swing, the particular world sports news publish less posts about Beckham, LOS ANGELES Galaxy and the particular MLS. To create issues worst, LA will certainly hardly associated with play-offs, giving the mass media less to write down approximately.
In the group that has experienced an overall lost of more than $350 million within the first 6 years after the foundation (a BusinessWeek report from 2004), where at the present time just two teams, ARE GENERALLY Galaxy and FC Dallas, are lucrative with 3 extra teams expected to become profitable in a yr, a $250 thousand one-player investment looks like a bet. If you are, what usually are the odds?
Lately, several notable participants chose to make the step aside from the greater leagues of European countries and South The usa for an economically good contract using teams from the particular Gulf countries. The headlines reported affluent transfer deals, nevertheless there is no to little follow-up found in media coverage regarding those leagues.
Not really to be ignored, prior to Jesse Beckham's arrival, MULTIPLE LISTING SERVICE attempted to gain exposure with Freddy Adu, a new player under the particular age of sixteen that was crowned as the next Pel . Adu attained significant media interest, the entire world knew your dog is playing for POWER United of the particular MLS.
Many may well or may not necessarily know that Adu, this past summer at the age of 18, signed an agreement in The european countries with Benfica FC - Portugal. Before to joining Benfica, Adu spent many time during summer season in the Man Utd's training camp out, Alex Fergusson performed not provide him the particular reason to stay.
Benfica paid in order to the club coming from Salt Lake Town $2million to the player's release note and Adu are getting $1. 2million annually, solid but not the particular contract that clothes the news. Adu was not on Benfica's Champions League complement roster against Milan on Sept. eighteenth, in compare a new player like Messi at the recent Adu's age was already among the starting 11 for the football giant FC Barcelona. The LOCAL MLS didn't may actually include gained substantial consideration for the game with Adu, neither contributed to his / her development into typically the world dominant gamer as expected. Through history, some of the best participants of all occasions played soccer in the States, which include Pel , Beckenbauer, Eusebio...
After the particular decades long endeavors that failed to give hoped results intended for the success involving U. S. soccer, what difference Beckham's playing (currently over a 6 week deficiency due to the particular injury) may tends to make now? Let's include a brief consider the MLS, a professional soccer league that will were only available in 1996 along with more than 10 seasons of knowledge under way.
Strategies and facilities:
On the day of publishing this particular text, September 27th 2007, Beckham's LOS ANGELES Galaxy is actively playing from the KC Wizards. SPORTiana. com, since the author associated with this text, had the insight in MLS through KC Wizards in typically the summer of 2006, a year just before Beckham's arrival within the MLS. At that time KC Wizard's head coach complained about having him self and 2 even more assistant coaches to run the team's training, forcing your pet to leave various players from twenty six man roster sitting down on the counter as a result of not getting able to include all of them on typically the field during exercising at the equivalent time.
The training facilities included one open-air field and the in-door field with fitness center used by typically the NFL team KC Chiefs, within the particular Arrowhead Stadium intricate. The Wizard's start air-training field has been situated next to be able to the fence separate KC Chiefs teaching fields.
Grass on the Wizards field was almost separated turfs on typically the ground as challenging as a mountain, a field in which many players might spread training found in order to steer clear of injuries. A head coach, 2 support coaches, fitness instructor... NFL stadium in addition to facilities... small work place at the nook of the stadium... that would be a good contrast to typically the clubs from crews where Beckham previously played.
Players:
Bulk MLS players come in the category as drafted college or university players. College football usually means player's playing for a full ride grant together with the first professional contracts signed at the age involving 22 or thus. In other nations, first pro long term contracts are usually signed with the age associated with 18, at typically the age of twenty two the participant is coming away of a four year contract plus managers possess a much better understanding of the player's capabilities on pro football.
Therefore college players are 4 years powering. By signing a first pro contract at the age of 22, they would certainly emerge from the 5 year contract from the age regarding 26, at that will time, major world football clubs would prefer to invest their money inside a 22 season old's prospect who has also acquired 4 years of professional football experience. University players hardly complete over playing in the MLS (players' first pro contract) on their way to improved paid leagues as most foreign golf equipment would not indication a college category forward, attacker striker with no pro football experience at the era of 22.
Well known American players like DeMarkus Beasley ($2million to PSV instructions Netherlands, currently for 700, 000 along with Rangers - Scotland) or Tim Howard ($4million to Guy Utd - Britain, currently with Everton after being loaned), joined MLS directly from high-school with no playing college soccer, just like Freddy Adu.
For the average football lover with the alternative to watch the variety of suits, e. g. typically the giants of typically the game squaring upwards in domestic associations like this past weekend when that was Man Utd vs Chelsea in England, Barcelona as opposed to Sevilla in Spain, Roma vs Juventus found in Italy, PSV vs Feyenoord inside the Netherlands... Boca Juniors online games in Argentina, Lyon in France... will be certainly little space intended for MLS.
A soccer fan desires to observe the competitiveness, excited fans, decades-long brutal rivalry between the clubs, tradition, typically the world's best players, established players together with reputation of playing intended for prestigious clubs, ultra-modern football-specific stadiums, almost all of that the LOCAL MLS does not offer you. The MLS needs to gain the attention in the American open public and media found in order to gain a similar interest together with the world community. Hard-working, attractive all-around players like Eddie Johnson from the KC Wizards or DC United's Jaime Moreno, who proved their particular quality with this summer's Copa America 2007 are the prototype players for some sort of successful competitive category.
The MLS's proposed soccer-specific modern stadiums for all those clubs usually are a step ahead. German Bundesliga seen tremendous boost involving public interest plus media attention in domestic and worldwide level just before and after the Globe Cup 2006, with a legacy of great new plus renewed old stadiums. The MLS need to internationalize as significantly as possible, the particular English Premiership made it happen, when foreign billionaires started buying golf clubs, world class players found its way to even great number to make it the most watched and profitable football category in the globe. Many writers have got speculated on the reason why football is not while popular in the Ough. S. since it is within some other nations, most of these people point to the truth that the game does not have sufficient scoring. Changing rules of the game in favour of having even more goals per sport a great idea this moment around.
Football can be a powerful force, this already changed the particular North American key league sports philosophy, MLS clubs are usually competing in typically the Super League plus the Copa Sudamericana, The New You are able to Red Bulls fresh stadium will characteristic a full "European-style" roof, in the year of 2007 MLS started selling ad space in the front involving jersey (a floor of $500, 000 per shirt sponsorship), following the practice in the international soccer.
As the Latin Us immigration increases inside the US, the next the interest inside football. With football being the most popular recreational game for both girls and boys, the MLS offers potential. In 06\ Don Garber, MULTIPLE LISTING SERVICE Commissioner, expressed his expectations for typically the league's clubs to be profitable by simply 2010 overall. LA Galaxy's merchandise product sales through Beckham's up coming 4 four decades with the club might not exactly top $600 million as it was during the time with True Madrid, still a good MLS player built onto the protects of Sports Outlined magazine and collect a large group of sixty six, 000 spectators at a packed Giants Stadium.

A short but sweet interview with Tobias from Corren, a local Linköping newspaper :)
Forge hopes to return to Linköping with Ghost
"This is not the time to start thinking about whether we are ready. Unlike Kiss and Aerosmith, who are winding down, we're in the middle of building Rome still," says Tobias Forge.
- I’m fine, but I have a pretty bad pollen allergy and it currently affects me a lot.
Tobias Forge and his nameless ghouls are out on a European tour. When we reach him on the phone, the band is up for a three-day run with shows every night. First Oslo, then Stockholm and Malmö. The tour, which began with 26 shows in the US, is the band's first in two years.
- A year or so ago it felt like the end of the world, that everyone was dying. But now you wake up in the morning and... everything's just the same. Oslo is still standing. You can go outside and breathe and everything is fine. Except for all the pollen!
Tobias Forge grew up in Tannefors and went to Tanneforsskolan and Kungsbergsskolan. Since the debut album "Opus Eponymous" was recorded in Linköping in 2010, the band has grown and grown and grown. In admittedly strong competition, Ghost can be called one of the world's biggest modern hard rock bands right now. The latest album "Impera" entered the US Billboard charts at number two and the band's songs have been played hundreds of millions of times on Spotify. And on top of that all the live shows.
- It's always special to play at home. I'm a creature of habit and like it when there's a certain routine to everything. But when you play at home, it's like coming to work and there's a hundred mates hanging around who don't know what your job is. They want to do things and they ask things. It can be quite distracting, but it's very nice when it's over.
"Home" here refers to Tobias Forge's current hometown of Stockholm. The last "home-home" gig in Linköping was in 2015 at Doom on Ågatan street. That's when one of the band's spectacular pope changes took place - where the charismatic frontman (with Forge behind the mask) was replaced. Papa Emeritus II became Papa Emeritus III.
Will you be back?
- At some point we definitely will. But it's hard to do at the level we're operating now. Unfortunately, it suits Linköping to be so close to Stockholm. If Linköping had been at the same distance as between Umeå and Stockholm, it would have been easier to include Linköping. But those plans have been around for a long time. It's just that we haven't got it together yet.
Are you here sometimes?
- Sporadically. Not as often as I'd like. But it's very nice to come home. I'm always a bit shocked, there's always some new block that's been built.
Do you get recognised in Linköping?
- Maybe I will... I don't know. Sometimes I'm not sure. I'm on the verge of being face-blind, not completely blind but short-sighted anyway. So if someone looks at me, I don't know if it's because we know each other or if it's because they recognise me.
How big an impression has Linköping made on Ghost?
- For a while we had a backdrop on stage that was supposed to look like a church. But we used a picture of the windows of the house opposite Sankt Lars Kyrka where there used to be a bank. And Papa’s clothes have the Linköping lion embroidered on them. Linköping has made an unimaginable impression on me. I always say that the whole essence of Ghost is a percolation of my Linköping upbringing. A childhood that was very influenced by video, radio, television, my older brother and popular culture. The cathedral that I always thought was so cool when I was a kid. And Nya Tanneforsvägen, the street of my dreams.
Before Ghost and rock stardom, Tobias Forge worked as technical support at a telephone company in Linköping. Afterwards, he has admitted that he may not have been the best technical support, but he got a lot of other things done. Among other things, he designed the Ghost logo there.
- I'm not going to hang the company out to dry, because I've prided myself widely on how inefficient and bad I was. But geographically, it was near the long-distance bus terminal at that store... I don't know if it's still there?
Priso?
- Yes, Priso! That's where it was. It doesn't look the same there anymore.
In the beginning, the band's members were secret from the world. And it would stay that way until 2017, when the names were revealed during a lawsuit in Linköping District Court between Forge and some then-band members. By then, Ghost had gone from a secret, almost underground band playing at Cupolen at Folkets Park to a slightly less secret band selling out major venues around the world.
And there are no plans to slow down.
- No, no, no. We're just getting started. We've got things planned all the way to September 2023. There's so much I haven't done yet.
