Thoughts on Uncanny charm

Started reading this randomly, finished it in two days, and it was quite a nice read. Characters were fun, they are fleshed out pretty well and are interesting to follow. I liked that the story didn't focus as much on the development of the romance between Yoon-Jae and Beom-Jin but instead concentrated more on how they treated each other while already being together. For most of the manhwa it was an established relationship and I love this trope and they just were cute. Episodic characters also were good; they really made the world feel alive, even if the story was for 99% concentrated just on the main cast.

The plot was interesting. There were some anti-climactic and completely out of pocket moments, and not all questions were answered, but still, the story was solid and the ending was satisfying, even if a bit rushed.Humour was nice and the emotional moments didn't conflict with the overall light-hearted feel of the story while still conveying the feelings and emotions of the moment. The antagonist was written genuinely well, I really liked his character conflict and how it affected his actions. Yeom-Ra’s obsession and desire to possess Yeom-Oh in his entirety and Yeom-Oh’s slow change from respecting Yeom-Ra to loathing and fearing him were amazing to watch.

Art wasn't extraordinary but was pleasant to look at. The simplicity of it added to the overall vibe of the manhwa.

I started this story wanting some light-hearted and not overly complex but still interesting and pleasant read and I got exactly what I wanted. I'm giving “Uncanny charm” 7/10 and can definitely recommend it.

finished reading Uncanny Charm!

it honestly might be one of the only series where i really, truly feel so bad for the villain/main antagonist. like all he wanted was to not be fucking lonely and yeom-oh just kept drawing a line between them and outright pushing yeom-ra away 😭

and like, i get it, yeom-oh had his own shit going on, but everything could've been avoided if he had just opened his heart a little. although, yeom-ra's breakdown probably would've been worse had he and yeom-oh actually grown closer and yeom-oh still ended up collapsing and dancing with death......so maybe how it went was for the best.

side not about yeom-oh, i do ship him with hyun-jo, like a lot. it's one of the reasons i'm glad yeom-ra and yeom-oh didn't end up having any sort of real romance between them. mainly because i think yeom-ra deserves better ngl fjsndjdj no offense to yeom-oh, but really.

besides them, i kinda wish yoon-jae and beom-jin's relationship didn't progress so quickly. like on one hand, i loved how simple it was, but on the other, they kind of developed into the sort of couple i kinda hate where it's like they become so enraptured in each other it's like nobody else matters in the slightest (and the only grace they'll give is towards each other, kind of).

i kinda hate how the cat becom irrelevant, i thought he was gonna be a way bigger part of the story (but i guess his increasing lack of relevance towards the end is somewhat related to my point above).

same with yoon-jae and yeom-oh's relationship. i just kind of got the feeling that their relationship felt.....empty? and it's interesting, because on one hand, i do kinda prefer a more realistic(?) sibling dynamic than one that's overly affectionate to the point where it starts to get weird. i know they aren't real brothers, and the only reason they're even acquainted with each other is because of yeom-oh's desperation to save his younger brother, so it does make sense that their relationship feels shallow, but i still think a bit of that emptiness stems from the heavy importance placed on yoon-jae and beom-jin's relationship.

(yeah, i do have a lot of beef with couples in series that seemingly don't have lives outside of their partners. it's so boring to me!!! give them friends they love!!! let them be interested in other people!!!)

all in all, though, the story was pretty enjoyable. it made me laugh a lot, the characters were fun, and i like that it didn't feel like it dragged too much on one particular plotline. i kind of slowed down around chapter 60 or so and it took me a couple of days to get back into the swing of things, but finishing it wasn't so bad.

i thought the ending was going to be a bit more epic or engaging, but i feel like it made sense with the whole vibe of the story, so i'm not disappointed.

uncanny charm finished last week and im just laying here like....please....side chapters...i miss them sjdhgf

#i actually wasnt expecting it to end right there i felt it was ending soon but not THAT soon ashjdfg #it feels like theres some loose threads that need tying #will we ever know why beomjin has the powers he does/why those powers exist #and WHY do his eyes and power glow the exact same color as king sobyeols eyes and power like #I FEEL LIKE THAT IS A SIGNIFICANT THING TO EXPLAIN #like. my theory is. beomjin is The Flower that god poured power into #that flowers soul eventually became beomjin #and this is how he's tied to yoonjae by fate as well??#since yoonjae is a reincarnation of the little brother who took care of the flower...allegedly #at first i thought yoonjae was supposed to be the actual reincarnation of yeomoh's little brother #but then we see the little brothers soul near the end? so that can't be yoonjae #anyways like i said #lots of stuff left unsaid #which is fine if its like. unsaid but tied together well. this doesnt feel tied together well unfortunately #like SUPER FUN SERIES REALLY COOL PREMISE #everything felt like it was ABOUT to be tied together perfectly! but then the ending kinda made everything feel messy #felt like the author rushed it a bit or like. got paused midair before sticking the landing. odd.#anyways im hoping for some side stories at least since the author mentioned those were on the table #uncanny charm #ky speaks
