utterly cannot stand the type of post thats like "what are the female characters you like" and i KNOW it's not the fault of the people who make those posts i know they only do it because 95% of this site's blorbos are men. but i hate it anyway. like really the only way you can get fandom people to talk about women is to explicitly tell them to talk about women. and it always comes off so disingenuous because i KNOW most people reblogging those posts would never say those characters on a generic "what are your favorite characters" post. like it's all just so bleak :/

the dark artifices has so many moments that just floor me. when diana opens up to gwyn and he tells her she’s the bravest woman he’s ever met and gently asks, Can I hold you? when kieran feels betrayed and mark kneels in front of him to ask for forgiveness and tells him I love you, I wish you could believe me. when julian says to emma “I’ll love you if I never touch you” and emma thinks, I love you more than starlight. kieran telling mark “you are all that exists on the earth and under the sky that I do love.” julian telling dru that “you’re the heart of this family”. ty and kit being each other’s reasons to stay. livvy’s protectiveness over ty; livvy telling julian she wants to be like him. kierarktina dancing together and all being stunned after. there is just such fierce and fragile love in this series in so many different forms, i’m so soft for all of them

Throwing up, weeping, and dying on the inside, but NoT wItHoUt A tHeOrY.

Now, what I'm thinking is (because of the very fact that I LOVE angst and pain) is that something is going wrong with Ty because of Livvy's disappearance (convince me otherwise). Ty may be growing weaker, or is suffering mentally because of it, and Kit, being a Herondale, is about to go out, get some gear, and do something stupid and life-threatening to fix it. Because I'm guessing this is at a point in TLKOF where the duo have some clue as to where Livvy might be, but they're not sure, and Ty, of course, wants to be sure, so Kit is going out, acting on impulse, and doing this himself. He probably expects to be back by morning, but leaves a soul-crushing note, just in case.

So this is a scene, presumably after the first KitTy kiss, where Kit is leaving Ty quietly to do something which will lead him to almost dying when Ty eventually finds him, and that is where we get this:

"It's a bit ironic, isn't it?"

"What do you mean?"

"All that effort to convince you that I wasn't in love with you, and here I am, dying in your arms."

Prepare to jump off some very tall somethings.

What keeps me up at night? Thinking about how Kit went along with Ty’s plan to raise Livvy and never showed Ty he had an issue with it. Then, out of nowhere (for Ty at least), declares his love for Ty in the middle of an intense spell, and decides to run away to England after something Ty says in a moment of extreme stress and heartbreak. Leaving Ty to effectively lose two of the most important people in his life in one day while feeling like the worst person in the world. Yeah, that thought makes the nights long, not gonna lie.

i think it's important that kit appears to straight up not know how to have a genuine conversation with someone. and a lot of that has to do with how he was raised, isolated with nobody really asking for his input or opinions, but for most of tda even when he's speaking to somebody he's rarely actually sharing his thoughts. and on top of that he's SUCH a people pleasing character, like beyond the initial snark he pretty much goes along with whatever people want or expect from him just for their attention or to make them happy. and on top of THAT, i think that tda is probably his first experience as like... a person among equals? i don't think it really occurs to him that the things he does or doesn't do impact other people because that's never been the case before, and obviously it leads to disaster but like i think he still just does not understand that his decisions affect people because he feels irrelevant and out of place among them. he can't feel accountable for the ways his choices affect other people because he just does not understand that he has the ability to affect people at all.

and like on ty's side i think even before the resurrection attempt he's very given to self blame, like when livvy gets hurt at the shadow market and he immediately blames himself for the injury. he feels an immense amount of responsibility to both livvy and to the rest of his family, and so many of his actions post-tda are rooted in this idea that he needs to do penance for the failed spell. (and here i'm also going to blame magnus a little for being really unnecessarily harsh at the end of tda when from everything preceding kit is literally just fleeing the country out of embarrassment and not really anger.) but he doesn't blame kit for lying to him or randomly dropping a love confession at him at possibly THE most inopportune time, he immediately put that back on himself and blames himself for being the reason kit left. there's also a lot to be said here about processing the world as an autistic person among an insular society of people who don't have the vocabulary or information to help you even when they want and try to, and how that affects the way you see your relationships with other people. ty doesn't blame kit for lying or running away because it does not occur to him that the fault lies with anyone but himself.

(also now i'm going to blame ragnor a LOT because listen if i was a 15 year old and traumatically lost someone i cared about i would probably not be making A+ decisions either but this man is a whole adult and also said not one word to anybody in a position to stop them or at least keep an eye on them)

so like at the end of the day i feel like so much of tda is about characters being so caught up in their own spirals of shame or self-doubt or pain that they don't notice what's happening to the people around them until it's already happened, and that even the people who love you will not always do it perfectly or even well, but as for these two hopefully that's the character growth we'll see in twp- kit now having a baseline of familial love, being an older brother, and finding self-worth to the point where he can hold himself accountable for the things he does and recognize his responsibility to other people, and ty growing in confidence and trusting himself enough to realize he doesn't have to punish himself or shoulder so much blame and that he can acknowledge when other people have not done right by him.

#anyway maybe unpopular opinion but i'm actually glad they're apart right now because i think they needed it #in my opinion if i'm assigning blame to this situation about 90% of it goes to ragnor #for enabling this and hoping that the traumatized 15 year olds decide to make wise choices by themselves #but also i hope kit is realizing he isnt 'nothing' and that his choices affect other people #and that ty is realizing that he doesnt have to atone for like just wanting his sister back and kit's decisions #the wicked powers #twp #kit herondale #ty blackthorn

I love KitTy but I feel like a reason why I don't like the way it's mainly done in fics (at least from what I used to see, I'm not sure how it's going currently) it's because they are suffering the "ship that exists in a vacuum" phenomenum.

Like we gotta remember that Ty is very close to his siblings and he has a shit ton of them. Yes, he's not talking to anyone aside from Dru about the Livvy matter and he's not talking about his feelings, but that doesn't mean there isn't love there, that they don't keep in touch and worry about each other.

And we gotta remember Kit is now living with Jem and Tessa and experiencing the wonders of being loved for the first time in his life. He adores Mina and he's happy having parents, he keeps in touch with Jace and others. He's terrified about them being hurt because of him due to the Mother Hawthorn incident but they're there and they care fiercely about him the same way he does about them.

There's only so much I can suspend my disbelief for the Blackthorns and Jessa not even being around while Kit and Ty are in danger or doing this or that. Sometimes Dru is the only one who cares and it feels weird.

Don't even get me started on the way both of them are VERY traumatized. Love ain't gonna fix them, man. They love each other and they sure have problems surrounding each other, very big problems. But Ty is dealing (or NOT dealing) with the death and unsuccessful resucitation of his twin sister and Kit is dealing with how Johnny never even loved him. To say one thing, because they have a lot going on.

All of that has to connect together and create the conflict, influence in the way the story goes.

I'm not saying "put all of this in a silly short story where they kiss", but I think it's important for their characterization to remember all these things that influence who they are as people and how they interact with the world, and I cannot be convinced to be interested if we act as if the only thing that ever impacted them was their disastrous "we are not even dating but we somehow had a horrible break up anyway" situation.

My TWP Predictions

I've seen that people started with predictions to what they think or want to happen in The Wicked Powers. So, here are my predictions:

The main character is either Dru or Kit. Dru because she is the most important living female character of the main squad and Kit, because most parts of the series are probably his story. Also he was second after Emma in TDA.

Kit, Dru and Ty have most of the book in their POV, additionally there will be some chapters from Ash and a few in Livvy's POV. The rest of the characters don't get their own POVs .

Kit and Ty will obviously make up (and out) and end up dating and staying together forever.

Mina or one of the Lightwood-Bane kids will be kidnapped and threatened to be killed, but won't die

Thule-Livvy comes to Our World and meets Cameron here. They get a second chance for their relationship, even though their respective versions of the other world are dead. I also think that Cameron would follow Thule-Livvy back to Thule to save it from demons.

Janus will either die, end up with the Seelie Queen, or go back to Thule to undo his and Sebastians mistakes and save the world on Clary's wish.

Thule Kit will either die, go evil and/or become King of Faerie. But somehow I think he dies because he gets attacked by faeries.

Thule Rosemary never gets attacked deadly, finds her son again, tries and fails to protect him at a dangerous attack by faeries and accidently goes to Our World and protects/saves Kit here.

The TWP-squad mainly consists of Dru, Jaime, Ghost-Livvy and/or Thule-Livvy, Kit and Ty. Ash joins them later and Anush also gets to be pretty important, but has no part written in his point of view.

Dru, Jaime and Ash will go to Thule for some reason. Kit, Ty, Livvy and Anush stay in Our World and go to Faerie.

We get to see Auraline. Either in a flashback or because she's actually alive, but nobody knew. In that case she will also protect Kit and maybe end up as Queen of Faerie.

Kieran might give up his throne to the brother who's dating (?) the Seelie Queen in tge end of TDA.

Kit has wings and can make other people fly with his powers. I want to see him and Ty dance across the night sky.

Love triangle between Dru, Jaime and Ash, but they actually communicate and Dru ends up with Ash.

In the end Ash lives with either Dru at Blackthorn Hall or either the Herondale-Carstairs family.

Dru and Ty move to Blackthorn Hall, like Jules planned them to, also to be closer to Kit (and Ash).

Kit and Ash become parabatai. Maybe to secure eachother's survival. They are scared the other will kill them, but parabatai's can't kill eachother. So problem solved.

If a Lightwood dies, it's hopefully Maryse.

Kit fake-dies. Ty also fake-dies at the showdown battle and Kit heals him with his power.

All characters comeback at the showdown. Also Herongraystairs reunion and sibling-bonding of their children.

Irene unexpectedly loves Kit

Ghost-Livvy playing with animals (Irene)

Dru naming Ash's chinchilla

Ash saving Dru from falling

gray character Ash, but he chooses the good side in the end

These are the things I definitely do not want to happen, but might be a bit likely to go down this way:

Jace dying. Because he's a Lightwood, too and has someone who wants to and can step up in his place if he dies: Janus. He's also in more or less immediate danger, because Janus wants to kill him. Also Clary thought that she would die in TDA, so maybe Jace steps up to die instead of her (like Jason did for Piper in TOA, Rick is a friend of Cassie's, too, btw). But I hope it's not him who dies.

Ideas I had, that are probably way too wild for it to actually happen:

KitTy wedding in faerie as a way of staying together forever, because others want to separate them.

Rosechild / Rosestar moments: I mean Ash flirting with Jaime and Jaime totally questioning his sexuality. Maybe even some more romantic moments

Ash taking the Fairchild name instead in honour of his aunt and grandma.

Kit taking the Blackthorn name because he feels more connected to them than to the Herondales. Jace almost disowning him afterwards.

Kit bonding and cuddling with a duck. Jace definitely disowning him now.

Ash being the one who warns Clary and Jace about Janus

I probably have even more ideas, which I will add when I remember them.

what really bothers me about Kit/Ty is that the split between them is not as equal as everyone acts like it is. honestly the blame largely rests on Kit, and no one talks about that.

“but Ty is the one who tried to raise the dead!”

okay, yes, but let’s get one thing clear: he did not know that Kit was actually against that until the very last second. Kit willingly led him into thinking that it was a good action. Sure, Kit only did that because he thought Ty needed blind support, and thought that Ty would come to the right conclusion on his own. But he never told him. And let’s not forget that Ty is autistic, and for many of autistic or neurodivergent people in general, Ty included, words and actions will be taken at face value.

Ty wasn’t looking for a secret belief that Kit held. Because if he didn’t agree with raising Livvy, why wouldn’t he just say so? But Kit didn’t. So Ty really believed that Kit was with him until the last moment. He believed that he was doing a good thing for his family.

And then Kit pulled the whole “I love you” moment. Which Ty didn’t get to properly respond to—because really, how are you supposed to suddenly process a bombshell like that in the middle of RAISING YOUR SISTER FROM THE DEAD.

And then Kit disappeared. Just. Left. Sure, it was because he was embarrassed for the love confession, but imagine how that felt for Ty. He just dropped a love bomb and left because Ty didn’t respond right. Which is a dick move. Even if it was out of self preservation.

LIKE? This is so clearly TLKOF Ty talking to Dru (not Livvy, because she disappears in TLKOF, convince me otherwise) about Kit! Presumably this is towards the end of TLKOF where both Dru's and Ty's romantic lives and the world in general are in chaos. And this is just a sweet, heart-breaking sibling moment between them where they talk about how everything is messed up and how the people they'd loved had broken their hearts. Since they were away from each other, it would be news to Dru that Ty was in love with Kit, and it would be news to Ty that Dru had given her heart to someone Ty had barely heard of.

Like, just imagine THAT conversation. I'm interested in their dynamic so much because Dru and Ty are going to make a different sibling pair than what we're used to. They weren't close enough to fully understand each other when they were younger. Ty always seemed like the cool older brother to Dru, what with him being so smart and knowing so much about so many things. Dru, on the other hand, was the gothic younger sister, with an inexplicable love for vintage horror and a criminal edge that impressed Kit Herondale, who basically had crime etched in his DNA. But they always protected each other. Like, it was given.

And when I think about all that and try to imagine their special moments, I just can't anymore. *cries inconsolably*
