my partner and I said goodbye to our cat Titan today.

he was diagnosed with stage III kidney failure and heart disease nine months ago. the onset was so sudden and the progression so rapid that the vet suspected lymphoma, but Titan's condition was so fragile it wasn't worth risking a biopsy.

I asked the vet how much time Titan had left. after some hemming and hawing, he said we'd be lucky to get a year. and we almost did.

Titan spent most of that time seemingly unbothered by his illness, and I am so grateful for that. but he deteriorated very quickly at the end. he was confused, and in a lot of pain, and nothing we did gave him any comfort. he was so diminished in his mind and body it was like he was a kitten and an old man at the same time. he crouched over his bowl, staring intently at the water with eyes sunken from dehydration, unable to remember how to drink. I rubbed water into his gums, and he flinched away, but I think it helped. I hope it helped.

anyway, the vet was wonderful. they let us bring him outside and sit with him in the sun. he passed away peacefully in my partner's arms.

he was only 9. we loved him so much.

after, I told my partner I felt like we'd been cheated out of so many years together. he thought for a minute and said that cats don't experience time that way. nine years don't feel any different than nineteen. Titan's life started, and after a while it ended, and every moment was as meaningful as the one that came before.

he got what everyone gets. he got a lifetime.

Hate to do this uh…but if guys could send your positive thoughts, vibes, and prayers to my grandma’s cat Elmo. He has fiv and hasn’t been well for the past few days and just hasn’t been himself at all. She took him to the vet but I haven’t heard anything but I know she loves him a lot and losing him would be hard. He’s the sweetest, cuddliest, goofiest orange boy around and I’d (we all would) hate to lose him so soon. We’d like to see him commit more Orange Cat Shenanigans.

Well, it's not great news. My dog Nikki has been in the hospital since Saturday night. Turns out, her gallbladder might rupture. They're doing surgery on her tomorrow. If this doesn't solve the problem, we'll make the humane decision to put her to sleep. The surgery is tomorrow. She's 16 so I'm not the most optimistic, but I'm a pessimistic person by nature admittedly speaking. Even then, we're on borrowed time with her at her age. She's been a wonderful dog and I of course want her around for as long as possible, but only if her quality of life is worth it. I'm trying to accept it. It's all I can do. Living in denial does nothing.

Kimuel Duran Torre (KimuelDuranT) is not their real name and is likely stolen from Facebook. The same exact post is archived here from the account they had deleted.

Life update:

Well, cat news got worse. We’re looking at compassionate euthanasia for our girl. Our options are letting her go, or having her go through a CT and another tap but our vet said she’s already so frail and weak that he’s not sure she would survive any more invasive procedures, nor did he want to give us false hope with potential costly surgeries that have a 50% rate of failure anyways.

He recommended we try upping her current diuretic to see if that does anything over the next week or two to reduce the fluid in her heart sac but he does not have hope considering she’s already been on a high dosage for the last 6 weeks. Over the next two weeks we will be doing everything in our power to make her remaining time stress-free and full of love before we say goodbye.

That said, I will not be around as much. Content creation and original fics are basically halted but I will try and get some event stories out so I have something to work on instead of stewing in sadness. I won’t hold myself to a timeline for them but I already outlined and started writing them and want to see them through, so please be patient with me as I get them out when I am able to.

This blog has been my hobby and safety net since last year so I don’t plan to abandon it, however I may be quiet and keeping to myself. Please don’t take it personally if I don’t respond to messages or DMs right away. So many of you have reached out or been otherwise supportive and it’s been a true blessing to have y’all in my life, not just during cat’s illness but overall, and I want you all to know how much I appreciate every single one of you in this fandom.

Athena seemed especially lethargic today, although she was fine yesterday and I was considering putting her back with the flock soon, but I’m giving her as much time as she needs inside for now. I’ve brought Peach inside to keep her company, I’m hoping they’re able to bond since they both lost the birds they were closest with and they’re my last two Faverolles. They get along really well, but Athena just wanted to sleep all day today so I’m worried. If she can hang in there until Monday I’ll see if I can get in touch with the nearest bird/exotic vet. Until then, send healing vibes her way, she’s my special girl.

About Beads 🐾

Currently worrying a lot about my little bean of a cat. Beads has had a coryza when still in foster care. He was vaccinated and all, but as you may or may not know, when a cat gets coryza, it will always carry the virus.

Yesterday, we were strolling around in the city (as we often do, never longer than 30 minutes), him in his special travelling cat backpack, sniffing around the book store while I would look around and relax. Everything was fine, he seemed really happy, as always when we go out together that way.

However last night, his third eyelid was showing a lot on his right eye, even with his eyes opened, light seemed to hurt his vision and he would squint his eyes a lot. He was very calm, which is unusual for him at night as he is usually playful during dinner hours (he's almost 7 months old). He would also not find any enjoyment in food. My partner and I got very worried very quickly, and tried to check if something was perhaps stuck in his eye : maybe there was some dust? Nothing. We tried to find some sleep and not worry too much about it.

Today, we were very happy to see that his third eyelid was no longer obstructing his vision! But our relief was cut short when during the day, we began to notice his right eye got really foggy. We tried to feed him wet food (which he devoured!) and make sure he always had fresh water to drink so that he would be hydrated enough. Tonight, his still foggy eye started crying and we're worried sick.

We're two young adults, my partner doesn't have a job currently, mine doesn't pay enough to be qualified as a job. We struggle paying rent and paying food. I don't want Beads to suffer because of human money problems. And I'm genuinely scared for this little angel.

PS. Those pictures weren't taken when his eyes were visibly impaired. I just think they're very cute. Also, I just wanted to vent about this.

Found out that my childhood kitty is at the end of her life and while I was on the call, one of my family members started crying (because we’ll miss her) and she got up off the exam table to go sit on their lap and started purring (despite moving being very difficult for her these days) and ?????? I’m sobbing? Shes sick and in pain but she saw that someone was sad and the only thought in her kitty mind was she wanted them to feel better. I’m never going to recover from that

Hiya,

So I’m sure this is a long shot since I make pretty much no original content/don’t talk about myself on here much if I ever have at all. I am through and through simply fandom and general meme trash here for the vibes this hellscape (affectionate) provides.

But if there’s a chance that it’ll make even a small difference I’m gonna do this anyway.

Long story short, my cat (Soup) needs emergency surgery for a reason that surprisingly has nothing to do with any of the chronic illnesses that he has. This procedure is happening this Friday, March 10th, 2023, and will cost between $1017-$1215 as long as there’s no extreme surprises, and that payment has to be given at the time of service (or at least I have to agree to a specific payment plan at that point. But my life situation stuff means I can’t be sure if I could cover it in that amount of time either by myself (and thus know if I would be able not to incur the interest fees. This clarification was added after original posting, I apologize that this wasn’t mentioned to make clear the most accurate amount of times-sensitivity originally)

If that is all you’d like to know/need to know and you would like to help, here’s the link (if you’re particularly squeamish, skip the summary there. It’s not graphic in any way, but does provide more specific detail of what’s going on):

For those of you who’d like some more context, here it is:

In theory had this happened/had I known even a month earlier, I would’ve probably been able to afford the cost on my own, but it didn’t, so I can’t (for a lot of reasons out of my control that compounded pretty much simultaneously.)

Soup is such an essential member of my family. I am not the type of person to throw money at a battle that would only cause him pain and suffering just because I’m scared of what life will be like if (hopefully very distantly, when) I lose him. I will never be willing to harm him like that.

But this is a situation thankfully in which the risk of complications because of surgery are pretty low even with his preexisting conditions, the benefits of the surgery are very high and the probability of losing him if this doesn’t get treated at all and soon is pretty much 100% certain.

Besides what the surgery is treating, his chronic illnesses are being managed and he has many more years of happy quality life ahead of him.

So, if you happen to have anything to spare and would be willing to help me cover the cost of this surgery, and/or share this, I would be extremely grateful.

(And if you can’t or just don’t want to, know that there is no judgement here. I appreciate anyone just for reading this. And hey, if you happen to have solid memes to share please do, I honestly could use some distraction)

does anyone want to know where the idea of jackalopes (most likely) originated from?

because i’m gonna tell you!!

(content warning for under the cut: talking about fucked up rabbits, and at the end there are three pictures of rabbits with horn-like structures on its faces. the first one has it the worst with the horns all over its face, the second one only really has them on one side of its face, the third has a few.)

ok so its called scope papillomavirus, or cottontail rabbit papillomavirus!

it can cause keratinous structures that look like horns to sprout on the rabbits head!

and, like how manatees were mistaken for mermaids, it makes sense as to how these horns would be mistaken for antlers. especially as they can form on the top of the head.
