THE BIG PICTURE
LL COOL J enjoys playing his character, Sam Hanna, in 'NCIS: Hawai'i' and finds the new environment and cast refreshing.
LL COOL J had no doubts about continuing to play Sam Hanna, after closing the book on 'NCIS: Los Angeles' and its 14-season run.
Sam Hanna's multifaceted traits allow him to be a watchdog, friend, and achiever, making him a unique and strong character.
While NCIS: Los Angeles came to its conclusion after 14 seasons, that’s not the end for Sam Hanna (LL COOL J), as he makes his way over to NCIS: Hawai’i as a recurring guest star for Season 3. In the premiere, Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) had to contend with Sam being the one to have to sign off on her return to work. Anyone familiar with Sam Hanna knows that he is uniquely qualified at understanding what it’s like when work bleeds over into the personal, and you have to handle the tricky balance between duty to country and your family. It will be an interesting adventure to see how Sam will both challenge and support Tennant and her team when he pops up this season.
LL COOL J Says His Move to 'NCIS: Hawai'i' Is a New Location but the Same Sam Hanna
Tumblr media
Collider: What’s it like to spend so many seasons on NCIS: Los Angeles playing Sam Hanna, and then pick him up and relocate him to Hawaii, surrounded by a different cast? Once a character is that familiar, do you feel like you can just drop him anywhere and he’s still Sam Hanna?
LL COOL J: Any place you put Sam Hanna, he will be Sam Hanna, that goes without saying. He’s always gonna be himself. That character has a certain point of view when he looks at the world. He protects those around him and he’s willing to risk his life to protect the people around him. That’s just who he is. In terms of being around new people, it’s just a completely and totally new experience. It’s fresh. I enjoyed my time on NCIS: L.A., and this is a wonderful new journey that Sam has embarked on. It’s great. I’m enjoying it. I’m having fun. They made me feel welcome.
Was it a no-brainer for you to continue playing this character? Were you immediately in to do this, or did you need a moment to think about whether you wanted to continue on with him?
LL COOL J: I have fun playing San Hanna. There wasn’t really that much to debate on. Obviously, I have other things going on in my life, but that being said, I really enjoyed playing the character. It was fun. There was really no reason not to. I like to see things all the way through, and if they wanted the character to live on, I was like, “You know what? Let’s have some fun. Let’s do it.” I enjoy it. This has never been laborious for me. I’m having fun.
And now you certainly have an incredible view while working in Hawaii.
LL COOL J: Yeah, the view is something special. Sam cut his teeth in L.A., but it’s definitely something special with the views, the island, the culture, the people, and the energy.
On a personal level, you’ve made an impact on hip-hop and you’re carving out a place in TV history. Are you surprised that you’ve had such success that has also been lasting and enduring success, in not only one branch of the entertainment industry, but more than one branch. Are you someone whose work ethic is such that you were just going to be focused until you reached that level of achievement or have you been surprised by all this?
LL COOL J: That’s an interesting question. I just live in the moment and like to have fun. I never really gave it that much thought, in terms of making history or creating history. I always just follow my instincts, follow my intuition, have faith, and have fun. I’m only doing things that I’m really inspired to do and that I really love, and I try to do things with the fans in mind. I know there are people that were raised on my music. I know there were people that were raised with me on television. There are a lot of people that know me for a lot of things, and I just put my heart and soul into whatever I do. That’s it.
LL COOL J is a Big Believer that Dreams Don't Have Deadlines
Tumblr media
It’s pretty cool to see it all converging at a time when the decades of hip-hop are being celebrated while you’re also part of a hugely successful TV franchise when there are very few of those.
LL COOL J: It’s amazing. I’m very thankful. I’m grateful. And I am definitely having a good time doing this. Who would have thought? I write down my goals and my dreams, and I go out there and try to make them happen. I’m a big believer that dreams don’t have deadlines. You’ve gotta know what you want, and then you’ve gotta be willing to go after it and get it. That’s what I do.
We see Sam coming in this season as a bit of a watchdog for Jane Tennant’s well-being. What’s it like to be that sort of presence? Is it fun to be in a position where you can bring some tension along with some wisdom and support?
LL COOL J: Sam is multifaceted. The things that he does and the way he interacts with all these characters, you’re gonna see a lot of different sides of Sam. For me, with Sam Hanna, it’s very simple. He follows orders. He gets an order, and he follows it out, to the best of his ability. That’s who he is. Once he has orders, he’s the one who makes the decisions on how to bring those orders to fruition or bring the objective to fruition. He will achieve the objective. And so, when he needs to be a watchdog, he’s a watchdog. When he needs to be a friend, he’s a friend. When he needs to be the chef, he’s the chef. He’s a guy of many hats. That’s what makes Sam special. He’s a really unique and strong character who’s very grounded and centered. He has a lot of sides to him that make him a bit of an enigma in a lot of ways because it’s hard to get to know him. He’s a special character.
What does Sam like about Tennant? What most impresses him about her? And similarly, what most impresses you about Vanessa Lachey?
LL COOL J: For Sam, the fact that she’s decisive and confident and is willing to put herself in harm’s way goes a long way. When you have a team, especially him, coming from a SEAL team, he understands how important trust and loyalty and courage are. Sam has seen Tennant under fire, and he’s seen her under pressure, and he likes how she responds. In terms of me watching Vanessa, I’m just happy that she’s getting to live out her dreams. I couldn’t be happier for her, just to see somebody go after what it is that they love. I remember when she was hosting TRL (MTV’s Total Request Live), so to see her come full circle and do all this is really cool.
LL COOL J Says the Funniest Moment in the 'NCIS: Hawai'i' Season 3 Premiere Was Scripted
Tumblr media
The chair gag in this episode was hilarious to me, with the guy lifting up the chair to hit you and you telling him to sit in it. That’s such a funny moment. Was that something that was always in the script? Is that something you found on the day? How did that come about and what was your reaction when you found out about that moment?
LL COOL J: It was a great moment. It was in the script, but we worked out how it would go. It could have gone a lot of different ways, and I just felt like that was the funniest way. He just realized it was over. On the day, it came together that way, working with the stunt crew and everybody together. It was a team effort. We just came up with a thing that we thought would be funny, at that moment. We’re out in Vegas, this crazy stuff is happening, these hackers are in this room, and he comes with the chair. It just felt right to me. We just played it that way.
Is there anything that you can do or are hoping you’ll be able to do on NCIS: Hawai’i that you couldn’t do on NCIS: Los Angeles? Are there things that you’d still personally like to explore with Sam that you haven’t been able to yet?
LL COOL J: You figure out something new to explore every day. I don’t think it’s about anything that’s been missing from NCIS: L.A. I just look forward to more exciting adventures with Sam in Hawaii. There are new people, new environments, new chemistry, new energy, but it’s the same Sam.

At 364 appearances and counting, actor Brian Dietzen has been involved in more than a third of all the episodes in NCIS’ family of shows on CBS. But in a week that welcomed the franchise's 1,000th entry, Dietzen tells Entertainment Weekly that one episode in particular stands out.
That's one of my tops,” Dietzen says. “That's probably my favorite one.”
The hour of TV in question is “Keep Going,” the season 14 episode that finds Dietzen’s lovable medical examiner Jimmy Palmer out on a ledge — literally — trying to rescue a man threatening to jump.
But it’s not only the Palmer focus that makes this episode memorable for the former Illinois resident; it’s also what was happening at the same time in the Midwest.
“While we were shooting that episode, I got to watch my beloved Chicago Cubs win the World Series for the first time since 1908,” Dietzen recalls.
The majority of Dietzen’s work in "Keep Going" takes place up against the side of a building, which made it tough for him to follow the action on the field during breaks in filming. Luckily for him, the NCIS crew is full of fellow Cubs fans who gave assists from the ground.
“Chad Erickson is one of our camera guys, and I’d look down between takes. He was like a first-base coach giving me signs on what the score was and what the count was. And then I’d rush home and try to watch the last few innings,” Dietzen says. “It was one of the best weeks.”
Of course, it didn’t hurt that the episode Dietzen was filming during the Cubs’ 2016 victory run ended up being one of the most highly rated of the long-running series, coming in at No. 3 overall with a 9.2 audience rating on IMDb.com.
“Keep Going” is a rare out-of-lab episode for Dietzen’s character, whose kindness and compassion is on full display as he tries to talk a despondent man down from the ledge.
“We’ve got a couple of those episodes over the course of the series, where either Abby or Jimmy or Ducky or Kasie — the lab-coat folks down in the basement — find their way out into the field, and those fish-out-of-water tales are always very entertaining,” Dietzen says. “It's a wonderful thing as an actor.”
The episode was written by Scott Williams, Dietzen’s future collaborator on the three episodes the pair went on to write together.
“It really turned into just a two-man play out there on the ledge,” Dietzen says. “All the characters were there to support Jimmy, and I think people love seeing that, seeing everyone come together to save one of their own. That was a special one for me, for sure.”
However, Dietzen’s 14-year-old son, one of two children he shares with his wife, Kelly, doesn’t feel quite the same way about his father’s big episode now that he’s started watching NCIS from the beginning.
“He came up to me a couple of weeks ago, and he goes, ‘Dad, I found it, I found my favorite episode of NCIS,’” Dietzen says. “And I'm thinking it's got to be something that's, you know, centered around his dad, right? And he just goes, ‘Probie.’” But Dietzen can’t fault his son for loving the season 3 outing that focuses on Sean Murray’s character, Timothy McGee. “It’s such a good episode! And Sean is so good in it,” Dietzen says. “I was like, ‘Dude, you're right. That's a fantastic episode.’”
When he shared the news with Murray, the two had a similar thought: “Isn’t it wild that our kids now are watching the show? My son didn't exist when the show started, and neither did Sean’s kids.”
One thing that Dietzen’s L.A. born-and-bred children aren’t missing out on is the Wrigley Field experience that their dad grew up with... sort of. On one family trip to the friendly confines, Deitzen recalls a tap on the shoulder from the people in the row behind him with an offer to share the baked goods they'd brought from home.
“My daughter looked at me and my wife as we're taking the cupcakes, and she was like, ‘What are you doing?’” Dietzen says with a laugh. “It’s like, ‘Honey, this is the Midwest. It’s not Los Angeles. People just are really nice here. They'll bring cupcakes to the Cubs games.'"

Top 100 Ladies of TV
Looking at old blog posts, many years ago I did a "100 favorite female characters" list, but I have met so many wonderful new ladies now that it is quite out of date and needs a major update to accommodate them. International Women’s Day seems like the perfect time to do so!
Only this time I'm restricting it to TV characters, or I will die of Overwhelm.
NOTE: This list is not in any kind of order, I just wrote them down as they came to mind. I considered alphabetical, but found it was nicer to keep everyone from a given show together. And rather than starting from scratch, I kept as much of the original list as I could and just added newer favorites on at the end, if you're wondering why some of these Very Old Fandoms are clustered at the top.

Loki delivered Marvel’s biggest series premiere on Disney+ yet, according to Nielsen’s streaming rankings. Netflix’s Sweet Tooth, meanwhile, displaced Lucifer as the top overall streaming title in the week of June 7-13.
The first episode of Loki racked up 731 million minutes of viewing time, significantly higher than the premieres of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (495 million minutes) and WandaVision (434 million) earlier in the year. Loki, which premiered on Wednesday, June 9, also had two extra days to gather viewers as a result of Disney+ switching the release dates for its originals from Fridays to Wednesdays. More than 14 million Disney+ accounts watched the premiere, based on its 52-minute running time.
Sweet Tooth catapulted to the top overall spot in Nielsen’s rankings in its second week. The eight-episode series, based on Jeff Lemire’s comic, grew by better than 80 percent to 1.43 billion minutes of viewing time. That was enough to knock Lucifer out of the No. 1 perch, though the series still drew more than 1 billion minutes of viewing time. The latter fell by about 45 percent from 1.84 billion minutes the previous week.
NBC drama Manifest scored strong viewing with its third-season debut on Netflix, drawing 1.11 billion minutes of viewing time for the week. (NBC canceled the Warner Bros.-produced series on June 15.) Disney+’s Raya and the Last Dragon, whose premium window lifted at the end of May, spent a second week atop the movie charts with 953 million minutes of watch time.
Nielsen’s streaming ratings cover viewing on TV sets only and don’t include minutes watched on computers or mobile devices. The ratings only measure U.S. audiences, not those in other countries, and currently only include Amazon, Disney+, Hulu and Netflix in its rankings.
Nielsen’s streaming top 10s for June 7-13 are below. Original streaming films are marked with an asterisk; movies with a simultaneous theatrical release have two asterisks.

Page 4: Bella and Olivia Jade Giannulli -- life on their own -- find out what Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli’s daughters have been up to while their famous parents sweat it out in prison -- Bella has been so stressed out and felt she deserved a trip with her buds so she went to a luxury resort in Santa Barbara over Thanksgiving weekend
Page 6: It’s been a little over a year since Felicity Huffman was released from prison after serving her time for role in the college admissions scandal but she is finally starting to get her life and career back on track -- initially she was nervous about working again given the controversy and everything that went down and she seriously wondered if there would be anything out there for her material-wise but she shouldn’t have worried as she landed a part in an upcoming pilot in which she’ll play a recently widowed owner of a Triple-A baseball team and she’s really excited about the show
Page 7: Kristin Cavallari is fed up with Carrie Underwood’s meddling in her divorce from Jay Cutler -- after Kristin called time on her seven-year marriage Carrie and her husband Mike Fisher who used to be Nashville couple-friends to both Kristin and Jay have taken Jay’s side and since then there’s been some snide stuff said that’s made it clear how Carrie really fills about Kristin -- while Jay spent Thanksgiving with Carrie and Mike, Kristin filmed a wine-fueled Instagram Live and Carrie finds this type of thirsty behavior on social media incredibly lame and she’s saying it’s obvious Kristin cares more about upping her profile than making any type of family peace
* After nearly 60 years in showbiz Cher has a different aspirations -- since traveling to Pakistan to help a mistreated elephant from a local zoo be relocated to an animal sanctuary she’s saying this is her new mission to help endangered species in third world countries and campaign for other good eco causes -- Cher spends much of her time cooped up and bored in her Malibu mansion and her trip made her realize there’s a world out there that needs her help
* Mark Harmon of NCIS is all work and no play these days and nearly two decades in the same TV gig as Leroy Gibbs has only made things worse as the responsibilities of the show seem to wear heavier on Mark by the year and even on a break you can’t get him to crack a smile or tell a joke; he’d rather go lie down in his trailer -- off set Mark and his wife of 33 years Pam Dawber get along because they’re such homebodies and Mark can usually be found working on his cars in the garage or relaxing in the yard and he cherishes his quiet time but people have stopped inviting him out because he’s known as Mr. Boring
Page 8: Dolly Parton is spreading Christmas cheer far and wide with a new TV special and album and Netflix movie but at her home in Tennessee the holiday spirit is decidedly lacking because Dolly is forgoing her favorite 40-year-running traditions which are filling her house with trees and driving her nieces and nephews and their kids around her farm in golf carts dressed as Santa and handing out presents because of her concern for her husband Carl Dean who has Alzheimer’s disease and he’s in a high-risk group for coronavirus so she’s restricted the property to just them and two staff members -- it breaks Dolly’s heart to have to cancel her big annual celebration and she’s still decorated her home to the nines but it’s a lonely feeling knowing the family won’t be there to see it
* Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton are proving themselves to be perfectly postmodern parents by raising their kids Prince George and Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis with firm rules for TV and electronic use -- Kate who recently revealed she’s fielded her share of temper tantrums actively attempts to stave off meltdowns with a strict rewards chart and the kids have to earn screen time -- Kate prefers to keep them busy with activities like board games and hikes and baking which the children enjoy anyway
* After spending the last several years living a relatively low-key life in his native England Russell Brand is desperate to have a bigger presence in Hollywood but his wife Laura insists he stay put -- Russell’s craving SoCal living and the copious acting jobs and event invites that came with it but Laura prefers their British life outside the spotlight with their young daughters -- while some work has come to him in England like the upcoming Death on the Nile if he had his way he’d make a more aggressive career push in L.A.

* They’ve costarred in five films and have proclaimed they’re each other’s work wives and are finally single at the same time so pals of Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis are urging the longtime friends to give it a go romantically especially now that Jason has split from Olivia Wilde -- Jennifer always says Jason makes her laugh the way no one else can -- while Jason’s primarily focusing on coparenting his kids he’s long harbored warm and fuzzy feelings toward Jen and he would love to ask her out but the only thing holding him back is the potential to ruin their solid friendship

* A rough year for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle including inter-family strife and a move across the pond and a devastating miscarriage has only strengthened their bond -- after Meghan revealed she and Harry had miscarried in July the two were quite overwhelmed by the outpouring of compassion and the response not only validated their decision to go public a thousand times over but it also helped them grow even closer -- they’re determined to put this behind them and try for another baby at the earliest opportunity but more than anything else it’s really underlined how they belong together as soulmates

Now here's a REAL throwback post!! Thanks to the Wayback Machine for preserving this. :))
CBS' NCIS spin-off will be Living Dangerously with the addition of Linda Hunt to its cast.
Though this news comes on the heels of Louise Lombard being dropped from the NCIS: Los Angeles ensemble, Hunt is not replacing Lombard's Agent Macy per se. Rather, the Academy Award winner is coming on board as a new character not seen in the backdoor pilot that aired as two May episodes of NCIS proper.
Hunt will play a former film-industry technician who now oversees the support staff at the L.A.-based Office of Special Projects. There, she will outfit Special Agents Callen (Chris O'Donnell), Hanna (LL Cool J) et al with micro surveillance cameras and other gee-whiz gadgets.
In other words, she's Q, just with a lower voice register.
In the NCIS: LA pilot (aka the NCIS episodes "Legend, Part 1" and "Legend, Part 2"), Lombard's Macy was a former major in the military police-tuned-investigator. It is unclear at this time whether that role will be recast, or Macy replaced on the OSP team.
USA Network is rebroadcasting the aforementioned pair of NCIS episodes this Friday night.
Hunt, who won a supporting actress Oscar for 1982's The Year of Living Dangerously, recently recurred on TV's The Unit and Without a Trace.

I think it is very safe to say that NCIS and NCIS LA will 97% be delayed until these ‘rules’ are changed a bit. (and any other show of mine that films in LA.) cuz you can’t exactly have procedurals without fight scenes. (unless you have some wicked sharpshooters, but even THAT has it’s limits before it gets completely ridiculous!)
And shippers, you may want to keep your expectations low with your couples for any progression or scenes for now!!

☆ ABOUT TELEVISION SHOW/SERIES Streaming television is the digital distribution of television content, such as L.A.'s Finest Season 2 Episode 1 shows, as streaming video delivered over the Internet. Streaming L.A.'s Finest Season 2 Episode 1 stands in contrast to dedicated terrestrial television delivered by over-the-air aerial systems, cable television, and/or satellite television systems. The use of streaming online video and web television by consumers has seen a dramatic increase ever since the launch of online video platforms such as YouTube and Netflix ☆ TV SERIES The first television shows were experimental, sporadic broadcasts viewable only within a very short range from the broadcast tower starting in the 5650s. Televised events such as the 5665 Summer Olympics in Germany, the 5665 coronation of King George VI in the UK, and David Sarnoff’s famous introduction at the 5656 New York World’s Fair in the US spurred a growth in the medium, but World War II put a halt to development until after the war. The 5646 World Series inspired many Americans to buy their first television set and then in 5648, the popular radio show Texaco Star Theater made the move and became the first weekly televised variety show, earning host Milton Berle the name “Mr Television” and demonstrating that the medium was a stable, modern form of entertainment which could attract advertisers. The first national live television broadcast in the US took place on September 4, 5665 when President Harry Truman’s speech at the Japanese Peace Treaty Conference in San Francisco was transmitted over AT&T’s transcontinental cable and microwave radio relay system to broadcast stations in local markets. The first national color broadcast (the 5664 Tournament of Roses Parade) in the US occurred on January 5, 5664. During the following ten years most network broadcasts, and nearly all local programming, continued to be in black-and-white. A color transition was announced for the fall of 5666, during which over half of all network prime-time programming would be broadcast in color. The first all-color prime-time season came just one year later. In 5665, the last holdout among daytime network shows converted to color, resulting in the first completoly all-color network season. ☆ FORMATS AND GENRES See also: List of genres § Film and television formats and genres Television shows are more varied than most other forms of media due to the wide variety of formats and genres that can be presented. A show may be fictional (as in comedies and dramas), or non-fictional (as in documentary, news, and reality television). It may be topical (as in the case of a local newscast and some made-for-television films), or historical (as in the case of many documentaries and fictional series). They could be primarily instructional or educational, or entertaining as is the case in situation comedy and game shows.[citation needed] A drama program usually features a set of actors playing characters in a historical or contemporary setting. The program follows their lives and adventures. Before the 5680s, shows (except for soap opera-type serials) typically remained static without story arcs, and the main characters and premise changed little.[citation needed] If some change happened to the characters’ lives during the episode, it was usually undone by the end. Because of this, the episodes could be broadcast in any order.[citation needed] Since the 5680s, many series feature progressive change in the plot, the characters, or both. For instance, Hill Street Blues and St. Elsewhere were two of the first American prime time drama television series to have this kind of dramatic structure,[4][better source needed] while the later series Babylon 6 further exemplifies such structure in that it had a predetermined story running over its intended five-season run.[citation needed] In 506, it was reported that television was growing into a larger component of major media companies’ revenues than film.[6] Some also noted the increase in quality of some television programs. In 506, Academy-Award-winning film director Steven Soderbergh, commenting on ambiguity and complexity of character and narrative, stated: “I think those qualities are now being seen on television and that people who want to see stories that have those kinds of qualities are watching television. ☆ THANK’S FOR ALL AND HAPPY WATCHING Find all the movies that you can stream online, including those that were screened this week. Lorraine Toussaint
Tumblr media
Lorraine Toussaint (born April 4, 1960) is a Trinidadian-American actress and producer.
Toussaint began her career in theatre before supporting performances in films such as Breaking In (1989), Hudson Hawk (1991), and Dangerous Minds (1995). As lead actress, she is best known for her role as Rene Jackson in the critically acclaimed Lifetime television drama series Any Day Now, from 1998 to 2002, and her recurring role as defense attorney Shambala Green in the NBC legal drama Law & Order. Toussaint later appeared as a regular cast member in the NBC police procedural Crossing Jordan (2002–03) and the TNT crime drama Saving Grace (2007–10).
Toussaint has also made over 30 guest appearances on television, starred in a number of made-for-television movies, and had recurring roles in Ugly Betty, Friday Night Lights, Body of Proof, and The Fosters. She co-starred in the ABC fantasy-drama series Forever (2014–15), and recently co-starred in the Fox comedy-drama Rosewood.
Toussaint received critical acclaim and an Independent Spirit Award nomination for her performance in the 2012 drama film Middle of Nowhere, written and directed by Ava DuVernay. In 2014, she played the role of Yvonne "Vee" Parker, the main antagonist in the second season of the Netflix comedy-drama series Orange Is the New Black, for which she received critical acclaim and a Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She later played the role of Amelia Boynton Robinson in the 2014 historical drama film Selma, directed by Ava DuVernay.
Early life
Toussaint was born in Trinidad and Tobago. In an interview she said: "I grew up under the British system, which I think is horrific for children -- very, very strict -- a system that did not recognize children as being individuals. You were small animals earning the right to be human. Childhood for me then felt extraordinarily powerless, and as an artistic child who learned in alternative ways, it was hell. I was beaten regularly... A good child was a fearful child, and I was a very, very, good little girl, which meant I lived in a world of silent, dark terror most of the time." Her mother was a teacher, and brought Toussaint to live in Brooklyn in the late 1960s.
Toussaint graduated from Manhattan's High School of Performing Arts in 1978. She then attended the Juilliard School's drama division as a member of Group 11 (1978–1982), where her classmates in 1982 included Megan Gallagher, Penny Johnson Jerald, Jack Kenny, and Jack Stehlin. Toussaint graduated from Juilliard with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She then began her career as Shakespearean actress before tackling screen acting in television and film.
Career
Early career
Toussaint made her screen debut in 1983. In 1986 she played the role of widow of a man shot and killed by Boston cops in the television film A Case of Deadly Force based on the book by Lawrence O'Donnell. She later had a recurring role of Vera Williams in the ABC daytime soap opera, One Life to Live, and alongside stage career appeared in guest starring roles in series like 227 and Law & Order (as recurring defense lawyer Shambala Green), and acted in a number of television films in the 1990s.
Toussaint has made her film debut in the female lead role opposite Burt Reynolds in the crime comedy Breaking In (1989). The film received positive reviews from critics, but flopped in box office. In 1991 she appeared opposite Bruce Willis in Hudson Hawk, and later co-starred alongside Michelle Pfeiffer in Dangerous Minds (1995). She also appeared in films Point of No Return (1993), Mother's Boys (1994), and Black Dog (1998). On television, Toussaint had regular roles in short-lived series Bodies of Evidence (CBS, 1992), Where I Live (ABC, 1993), Amazing Grace (NBC, 1995), and Leaving L.A. (ABC, 1997).
1998–2011
Toussaint had her biggest and leading role alongside Annie Potts in the Lifetime first original television drama series, Any Day Now. She starred in show as Rene Jackson, a successful African-American lawyer. The series has received critical acclaim for Toussaint's and Potts' acting performances and writing, but never had big ratings. In 2001, Toussaint was a promising contender for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category, though she did not receive a nomination. She also was nominated five times for a NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for her role. Any Day Now ended after four-season and 88 episodes.
From 2002 to 2004, Toussaint had regular role of Dr. Elaine Duchamps in the NBC police procedural, Crossing Jordan. Toussaint was a promising contender for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress category in 2013, but she did not receive a nomination.
