“Hey, Mr. C, why do you look so tired? Is it because I’m red? Diesel says red is a very tiring color! But Mr. C- red looks so nice against the snow! It’s not me, is it? :((“
Anyway that line from tatmr always made me laugh bc how did that even go down?? I like to think something like this (but make it human for pizzazz)

someone old, someone new
EDIT: yeah the Luxtorpeda design changed since then 💀 I realized she didn't fit RWS lore so she's a single character named Luxtorpeda, and the driver names are non-canon now (they're still the Polish driver and the other driver)

Hello hello hello! How are you? I’ve looked through you posts and I gotta say, you are very talented when it comes to drawing engines I AM JEALOUS.
I’m wondering tho, what would Alice look like as a human? You’re TTTE humanizations are very faithful to their source material so I’m wondering how would you handle her
Oh I have been WAITING for someone to ask this!
First off, thank you! It's definitely not easy to draw locomotives lol, but I'm still learning and happy with how well they've come out since I started! But anyway, onto Alice... she's come a long way, but this is the human design I've settled on for her:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's Alice "Duchess" Stanier! (She got the nickname because of how often she drove Duchesses on the LMS.) Now, Alice is a big engine. Naturally then, she MUST be a big lady! She's top heavy with large forearms, wide shoulders, and long legs. And I don't need to say that she's incredibly strong for a woman (working on a railway for 20 years does that to you). She's also rather tall and heavy for one. (Don't ask her weight. Most people can't handle the truth.) Here's a height comparison between her, Gordon, and Henry. (Gordon is about 6'6.) She doesn't wear jewelry at work, but I couldn't help including a big pair of earrings to represent her smoke deflectors.
Tumblr media
She wears her hair in a pixie cut because she used to be a Karen to make her job easier, and because it represents Alice regaining confidence in herself after an ex-fianceé left her for a more "traditionally beautiful" woman. She may like red lipstick and makin' men blush, but she's a tomboy through and through! (Just ask her little cousin, Henry...) In fact, it was that very breakup that pushed Alice as a young lady to start completely new and do something drastic- work on a railway as a cleaner. Except, oops, she fell in love again- with railway life! She got so good at her job, that by the time she was 45 she had reached top link at the LMS!
At first, the tomboy thing didn't exist for Alice. I was modeling her more after Peggy Carter in a femme fatale thing. She had an hourglass shape and a still-short but girlier bob.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But I was just never happy with it! (Which is why I never finished this masterpiece 🤣) But after I learned about those 60s pixies that some women wore, I came up with this sketch and LOVED it. (They are besties, your honor)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was the old attempt (plus my super helpful notes) at drawing this design, but it felt too boring and flat. I tried jazzing up the shape language a bit, but still wasn't happy with the proportions. But I took that sketch and turned it into the above, and I love the way it looks now! But anyway, that's what I have to say about human Alice. I've been wanting to infodump this for a while lol, thanks @thatcasualgamergirl for the ask!!

@verypsbfan019 gotta love it when two people ruin not only each other’s lives in some sort of twisted codependency but also everyone else’s
(a bit of comment under the cut)
now that I’ve caught up with the last part of the hawin lake saga, I must say that woah! despite its (minor) flaws this could be the best ttte horror fanfilm I’ve ever watched....! I’d like to give a few comments
I’ve watched the first four parts of the saga months ago so seeing this hour-long finale not only tell a story but also tie everything together - from dane and hawin’s relationship to the accidents in series 5 - is quite satisfying. part I-III built up the feeling of something amiss, part IV introduced the main antagonist, and part V revealed every single important thing the audience needs to know.
we get to see dane and hawin’s backstory when dane was still alive, the reveal that hawin isn’t as innocent as he is and that dane isn’t "purely evil”. the author did a good job giving dane and hawin depth and making certain characters in the story die not just for shock value, but also show how much of a force dane is. there’s always this feeling of unease whenever he’s around instead of making you go “oh great, not this guy again”
I also like to note that at the beginning of part V, dane was revealed to be 1020 without an exposition of some sort, but by using the camera angle to show the number on his tender just as he’s leaving his shed. it’s also worth noting that the paintwork on dane is rather more shoddy and jaded compared to that of hawin’s, putting in more weight to their conversation later on about how dane feels jaded and believed that hawin was merely there just to replace him.
also technically dane gets to talk in part IV but I like how the direction the voice acting of dane went. most villains in ttte fan films are either full on demonic sounding with gurgling sounds or edgily maniacal and full of laughter. but dane's voice is soft, tender, yet I can feel the absolute vitriol and sadness he has for hawin. dane, especially when talking to hawin, sounds so heartbroken and betrayed, so angry and vengeful. in a way, his voice humanizes him yet makes him feel more threatening. a person who is calm is harder to read compared to a person who is very open about their emotions. it also fits him very very well. he has always been a soft spoken individual when he was still alive, so it makes sense that he still talks like that even when he’s angry.
though I must say that the end scene where hawin sacrifices himself to calm dane down is a tiny bit anticlimatic and some parts like the jumpscares are questionable in terms of whether they’re really necessary.
it's been a while since I genuinely liked a ttte fanfilm villain. overall, it’s a great series, and part V, railspin splitspace, is a great end to a saga. 8.7/10

Gordon H. Gresley
Hold up Is that another Gordon?! Yes but he’s not related to my other Gordon. This Gordon with the fancy stache is basically if Gordon could project a human version of himself into the world. Giving him all the benefits of a human. For these designs I double down on the fact that I love history and give them outfits that were common during the decade they were built. Hence why this Gordon looks like a distinguished gentleman and not like a grumpy office sitter.
I also his away two nods to his builder Sir Nigel Gresley and other aspects of his character. You’ll soon why I designed this version of Gordon.

So the other night my brother and I started brainstorming a somewhat Choo Choo Charles inspired Thomas & Friends AU where almost everything is the same, except the trains have legs...
And I've done a bit of concept drawing
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The point of these sketches were basically just to flesh out the proportions/structure of a handful of the character's hypothetical legs
I've also decided to give each type of vehicle legs that match a general species group, such as: The mainline steam engines will have mammalian legs akin to big cats or dogs (e.g, lions, wolves, foxes, etc), diesel engines will have somewhat bug-like legs, narrow gauge engines will have hoofed goat-like legs since they generally traverse mountainous areas, flying vehicles will have avian (bird-like) legs, water traversing vehicles will have fins or flippers, and road vehicles' legs will likely fall into a more ambiguous species category
There are a few exceptions to this rule, such as Duck having avian legs (I couldn't resist taking his name literally) or Salty having reptilian legs with webbed feet, but for the most part the characters will follow this species category rule
As for the amount of legs the engines will have, that will differ depending on the engine's size. Tank engines and standard diesels would have 6 legs each, bigger mainline engines would have up to 8 legs (12 with a tender coupled), and narrow gauge engines would typically have 4 legs.
The biggest exception to this rule would be Mighty Mac. Since they're conjoined twins they have a set of legs each, making them the only narrow gauge engine to possess 8 legs. Plus all of their limbs are front legs with opposeable thumbs, another anomaly among engines in general.
Since this has been an unusually text heavy post for my blog, I shall leave you with two bonus (very rough) sketches:

Here we have James in a pinup-style pose (my brother's suggestion) as well as Thomas and Percy hanging out on a shed roof after somehow fining a way up there

The engines answers: “where do babies come from?”
Thomas: uh….
Edward: from the mom’s stomach, I don’t know how they get in there though,
Henry: I think they just pop into existence??
Gordon: they fall from the sky
Percy: I’m pretty sure you order one by mail and they come on the mail train. Why else would they say “delivering a baby” if it’s not by mail?
James: um
Toby: they come from the same place as lambs
Duck: I don’t know, ask Oliver
Donald: eggs, they hatch from eggs like a duck.
Douglas: where do babies come from?
Oliver: ask Duck.
Emily: (Actually knows but isn’t telling)
Diesel: you buy a special kit from the hospital and build them
Toad: the stork delivers it.

An idea that’s been rattling around in my head:
Flying Scotsman is on his tour of the U.S. While in New England, he stops in a little town called Greenfield.
There, waiting at the station, is an old red boxcar with four young adults that greet him.
The boxcar introduces themselves once the hubub and pageantry dies down, admitting they spend their time on the front lawn of the childhood home of these young adults. But they’d heard about Scotsman’s exploits and decided it was too special an occasion to miss.
Flattered but baffled, Scotsman asks how a boxcar came to sit in a front lawn.
And so the red boxcar, surrounded by knowing smiles and laughter, tells the story of the four runaway children who climbed into them for shelter one evening.
I don’t know how many TTTE / RWS folks know or care about The Boxcar Children books, but I loved the series as a child and I liked the thought of this crossover.
(The boxcar isn’t sentient in those books, to be clear. But in a RWS-esque world? I can see it!)
