Wishing a happy 80th birthday to the one and only Britt Allcroft.
Without her, a lot of our childhoods wouldn't have been the same.
So, thank you for all your work on Thomas and giving us a series that is something truly magical. We're all here together because of you, Wilbert, David, and everyone else~

🚂 I had moments of childhood nostalgia while working on these new drawings. I based these versions of Thomas, Edward, and James on CGI test renders for the cancelled movie “The Adventures of Thomas”. “The Adventures of Thomas” was in the works in the early 2010s, but the movie’s intended release date was pushed back multiple times after Mattel acquired the rights to HIT Entertainment. The story was to have taken place in London during World War II revolving around a preteen boy at odds with his father. Eventually, the father and son bond upon arrival on the Island of Sodor. Much like the 2005 “Thomas & Friends” special “Calling All Engines!”, there would have been a conflict between the steam engines and the diesels. As of 2020, a Thomas movie is in the works and is to be directed by the same director as Disney’s “Christopher Robin”. Anyway, I wanted to challenge myself with my take on three popular “Thomas & Friends” characters. #ThomasandFriends #latenightdrawing

<3
Somehow fell into the TTTE fandom and came across your blog. I love your art (actually have a few that are a personal favorite) and the head-canons you have on such classic characters. Plus some of your art for the TUGS fandom have made me curious about the show. So, here's to you always being inspired to create and/or write, regardless if you share it with the fandom! <3 Got a question for you; how come Stepney the 'Bluebell' engine isn't with the Skarloey Railway Crew?
Tumblr media
Oh my DAYS!!! 🥹🥹🥹
Thank you so much for your lovely, beautiful words! I've had a few DMs telling me they like my blog, but this is the first ASK I ever had, and I woke up to find it waiting for me!! I truly never thought that my little blog would get one, so thank you for making me grin like a Cheshire cat all the way to work!
Welcome to the TTTE Fandom (I hope you didn't hurt yourself when you fell in!). I hope you're enjoying yourself? You should absolutely watch the TUGS series - it is such a treasure of a show, and maybe if it gets enough interest, we'll get a DVD release!
Now...onto your question about Stepney the Bluebell Engine:
Stepney will never be part of the Skarloey railway team in my AU for two reasons:
1. Stepney, when I get around to introducing him, will be based on his Railway Series rendition, which was about the very real engine and his very real Bluebell Railway. As he has his little railway to run on the mainland, he only came to visit, like in the book, the Sudrian engines.
2. Stepney had no interaction with Rusty (that was concocted to get around Britt Allcroft's allergy to using real engines in her tenure) or the Skarloey railway in the book and wouldn't be able to do much if he had, given that he is standard gauge (No idea how Rusty could, though it does justify me making him a magical engine).
I hope that helps answer your question, and thank you for asking!

Yesterday I played Really Loud Librarians and suddenly realized that I have a near encyclopedic knowledge of Thomas the Tank Engine characters
I used to say I have no special interests but now I’m not so sure because how do you explain knowing this stuff since I was 2?

An intriguing new discovery was made during a thorough exploration through old and abandoned projects made by the now defunct Clearwater Features, the company behind the classic "Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends" series.
What could be recovered so far were screenshots of what seem to be an old version of the first ever TTTE episode, "Thomas & Gordon".
Tumblr media
The episode itself plays out just like the one that aired back in the 80s, but instead of being done with model renditions of the characters and backgrounds, the entire episode animation style is full-on cel animation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The entire episode was likely an animation style that Britt Allcroft and the team considered before ultimately sticking to models.
(This ain't real btw, just in case anyone may think it is. I just thought I'd try doing redraws of scenes from TTTE with a more 80s cartoon style.)

The Great Race Part 1
Narrator: It was a beautiful summer day on the Island of Sodor. Everyone works on their delivering their trains on time. Gordon especially, takes great pride in making sure the Express arrives on time.
(We see Gordon waiting at a red signal. Suddenly Thomas blows his whistle.)
Gordon: Gahh!
Thomas (laughing): Wake up lazy wheels! The Express can't be stopped all day you know. Some of us have work to do. I bet I can make it to Vicarstown faster than you.
(Gordon moans. The signal turns green and Gordon speeds away.)
Annie: That wasn't very nice, Thomas.
Clarabel: You know that Gordon's a very fast engine. He'll make you look very silly.
(Thomas calms down.)
Thomas: Relax, ladies. I'm just teasing him. And besides, the Express always has the right of way. Everyone knows that.
(We follow Gordon through his journey on the Main Line until he stops at the station in Vicarstown.)
Gordon: Oh yes. Right on time. Of course that isn't a surprise if you're me.
(Donald who's pulling a freight train to the Mainland just rolls his eyes.)
Narrator: As he waits for his departure time, Gordon hears Thomas' whistle.
Gordon: Well, well, well little Thomas. Looks like I beat you to Vicarstown after all.
(Thomas pulls up to the platform right next to Gordon's.)
Thomas: Oh come on, Gordon. It's not like we were really racing.
(Gordon is about to say something when he hears a whistle he hasn't heard in a long time.)
Gordon: No. It couldn't be.
(Thomas looks in the direction Gordon's looking in.)
Thomas: Wow. Is that who I think it is?
Narrator: A large green engine with two tenders backs into Vicarstown station next to Thomas.
Thomas: Hello there. I'm Thomas. Are you who I think you are?
(Before he can speak, Gordon cuts in.)
Gordon: Yes Thomas, you should know who this is. This is my brother, the Flying Scotsman.
Flying Scotsman: Oh! Hello, Gordon. Haven't seen you in a while. Don't tell me your run has been shorted to Vicarstown already.
Gordon (scoffing): Oh please. Like my controller would ever shorten my run. I always run my trains on time and provide reliable services.
Thomas: You don't even travel 100 miles on a one way trip, Gordon. I'm sure the Flying Scotsman works way harder than you do.
(He laughs.)
Flying Scotsman: Oh I wouldn't be so formal, Thomas. You can just call me, Scott. Why calling me the Flying Scotsman almost makes me sound famous.
(Gordon rolls his eyes.)
Gordon: Just say what you wanted to say, Scott. Some of us actually have work to do.
Scott: Ah yes. I wanted to tell you some news. Now I don't know if you heard this yet, but on the Mainland there is to be an international steam exhibition show. Many competitions will be held and I will be racing.
(Gordon makes an exasperated gasp.)
Thomas: Wow. I didn't even know engines could race.
Scott: Of course we can race. I might not be able to hit my 100 mph record, but I can still win a race or two. I wouldn't be the pride of the LNER if I wasn't fast.
Gordon (huffing): If that's all you came here to say, you wasted your breath. I wouldn’t want to be part of such foolishness anyway. I'm not a show off like you, Scott. Some of us have class.
Scott: Oh I wouldn't be so quick to blow it off, Gordon. This could be your chance to show the world what you Sodor engines are made of.
Thomas: I definitely want to go to the Mainland and show what I'm made of.
Scott (chuckling): Well Thomas, you my friend have a lot of heart. Who knows, maybe I'll see you all at the show.
(The conductor blows his whistle.)
Scott: Flying Scotsman coming through!
(The title "Hit Entertainment presents" appears.)
Flying Scotsman: Flying Scotsman, coming through!
(The subtitle "Created by Britt Allcroft" appears.)
Gordon: Ooh!
(The Flying Scotsman drives off screen with his train as the subtitle "Based on The Railway Series by the Rev W Awdry" appears. Thomas looks surprised as the subtitle "Written by Andrew Brenner" appears. We cut to a birds eye view of the track to the Mainland as the subtitles "Told by Mark Moraghan" and "Executive Producer Christopher Keenan" appear.)
Thomas: Wow. I can't believe the Great Railway Show's only a month away.
(He sees a man gluing a poster about the show saying it will take place on August 1st, 1965.)
Sir Topham Hatt: That's right, Thomas. I haven't decided if we would even be competing in the event yet. We still have a railway to run.
Thomas (a little dejected): Yes sir.
Narrator: Thomas makes his way back to the shunting yard. Gordon meanwhile, is still grumbling about seeing his brother.
Gordon: Unbelievable. My brother didn't even write to me in so long. Now out of nowhere he wants to act as if nothing happened. Typical.
(Time passes and Gordon grumbles all the way back to Tidmouth Sheds.)

Duke and Smudger are basically the train versions of Batman and Joker in my opinion.

Nia & The Mystery Woods
An original tale by gritsandbrits Based on the television program created by Britt Allcroft and David Mitton
Based on  The Railway Series by the Rev. W Awdry
Original characters belong to me everything else to their respective owners (Mattel)
Note: mix of the show & Shining Time/TATMR
Since her arrival to Sodor, Nia the Orange Engine grew to love her new home. One landmark that fascinated her was Henry's Forest. While she thought a heavily wooded area was an odd choice to put a branch-line in, she couldn't deny she loved seeing such gorgeous greenery and sparkling springs up close.
One afternoon, Nia was on her regular run (trying her best to bear with the stench of raw fish) when she arrived in the forest. A sign told all engines to reduce their speed. Nia didn't mind slowing down, it gave her the chance to embrace the serenity Mother Nature had to offer.
"I wish I could stay here," she sighed. "If not for being an engine I could walk deeper into the woods and see more of it."
"Perhaps another time when we're free," her driver replied.
Wistfully Nia continued on her slow journey when suddenly, she heard nearby bushes rustle loudly. Before she could process it something darted out in front of her. She jerked to a stop!
"What in the world was that?!" She yelped.
"Must've been a deer," her frazzled driver said as they checked to make sure she was alright.
"Whoo! At least nothing spilled out. The last thing we need is sturgeon juice all over the rails," the orange engine grumbled. Her eyes then noticed something was on the rails. Faint shimmer.
Once there was no sign of any more deer, the little crew went on their merry way. But Nia couldn't help but feel uneasy.
That night at Tidmouth she relayed the encounter to her shedmates.
"It could've been a deer like your driver said," Rebecca mused.
"What kind of deer shimmers?" Nia retorted.
"It could be a fairy!" Percy exclaimed. "One of the delivery girls at the mail station always talks about them!"
"A fairy? Percy you know magic doesn't exist," huffed Gordon.
Everyone stared at Gordon with blank expressions on their faces. Then he remembered, "oh yeah that's right Lady," he muttered in embarrassment.
"We could ask her but she's all the way on the other side of the world," Thomas sighed sadly.
"You could ask Edward," Emily suggested. "He should know all about the weird things that go on in Sodor; he's been here longer than any of us!"
If she had a neck Nia could've shaken her head yes. "I will tomorrow." Deep down she was nervous about speaking with Edward. She never could muster up the courage to, she felt bad for replacing him. But if she was to get a concrete answer she would have to hide her fears.
The next morning Nia spotted Edward lounging in the yard.
"Good morning Edward," she greeted quietly.
"Nia! What a surprise," the blue engine exclaimed. "Uh, how have you been this morning?"
"Fine. And you?"
"Well I'm just taking the day off. I ain't as active as I used to."
A brief silence passed between them. Then Nia asked, "Um, Edward, do you know anything about fairies?"
"Fairies?"
Nia explained her encounter to Edward. Afterwards he mused.
"If I'll be honest I think you saw a nymph.
"A nymph?"
"It's a different kind of fairy one that roams the forests and lives in trees," Edward continued. "They protect the forest, you know. I haven't seen it myself, but it is said they're the reasons why this island still has its natural habitats."
"I see."
"Perhaps we should test our hypothesis," said Edward. "I'll go with you to Henry's Forest and see it for myself."
"Oh! You don't have to, I don't want to take up too much of your time," Nia began.
"Nonsense, it'll do me some good to work out my wheels," assured Edward.
Later that day the two engines made their way to Henry's Forest. During the trip they didn't talk. Not out of rudeness but because both were too nervous to talk to each other.
When they arrived they stopped. "Alright," said Edward. "Show me where it happened."
Nia gestured with her eyes. "I think when I passed by those patches of blackberries when I saw them."
The engines trudged along the shaded path. Listening out for their magical friend. After a while they had found nothing.
"Hm, maybe it was a deer after all," she said. "Still doesn't explain the shimmer."
"Perhaps some naughty children," said Edward. "People can be disrespectful to wildlife, unfortunately."
Just as they were about to leave, Edward felt something soft whip past him. "What on earth?" He could make out some dust faintly shimmering in the sunlight. His nose started to itch…
"ACHOO!"
Steam whizzed from his underbelly as he let out a huge sneeze. His whistle squealed, jolting Nia to attention.
"Bless you!"
The blue engine sniffed. "Thank you, just some pollen."
"We ought to get back, it's getting late," said Edward's driver. When he reached inside his pocket he groaned. "Oi! My pocket-watch! It's gone!"
"Maybe you left it back at the station?" The fireman asked.
"No, I could've sworn I had it on me!"
Edward was confused.
Nia's crew were preparing her too. When her fireman reached to fix her hat she felt nothing but her own hair. "Hey my hat is missing!"
The humans looked around for the article of clothing but found nothing.
"Maybe it's been blown off by the wind?" Asked her partner.
"Darn! I really liked that hat!" The driver crossed her arms and pouted.
The pair left, but as they did, a melodious laugh rang out from the trees.
The next couple of days were tizzy for the NWR. Crewmen reported missing their hats and tools. More engines were sneezing. It wasn't enough to delay routes. But soon everyone was getting annoyed by the invisible pranks.
Every day Nia's curiosity grew. But so did her anxiety. After that brief time with Edward she didn't speak to him. Only hurrying off whenever he stopped by to visit Tidmoth. She felt bad for ditching but she didn't want to remind him of being his replacement either.
A couple weeks later, Nia was running her goods (thankfully no fish this time) when she went through Henry's Forest again. This time she was determined to catch a glimpse of the nymph.
"Alright you rascal where are you?" She looked around only to be greeted by trees and the large pool on the other side of the curve ahead of her.
Feeling a bit bitter she huffed and went on. So maybe it wasn't a nymph? But that still didn't explain the random pranks.
Suddenly she heard a loud rustling. Once again something large darted in front of her!
"Oh dear!" Nia screeched.
"Shoot!" The driver applied the brakes as a great buck lept out in front of them!
Nia squeezed her eyes shut expecting the impact. Suddenly felt her wheels lifting off the tracks. Then the unfamiliar tingle of grass. Finally careening to a stop...into the very sparkling springs she admired so much.
"Somebody...help me???" Was her gargled request.
Edward was sent to her aid. When he arrived with the breakdown train he gasped.
"Enjoying some cool down time I see?" Edward jokes in hopes to lighten the mood.
"Gleb! mhhee owa hee!" Nia sputtered drearfully.
"I take that as a yes."
It didn't take long for Nia to get put back on the rails. She sputtered out, "It was a real deer this time!"
"I guess this means we have to be extra careful," replied Edward. "By the way I'm curious. Why do you keep avoiding me?"
Nia's blushed. She didn't want to tell Edward she felt bad for replacing him in the shed. He seemed quite a good sport but she didn't want to instigate possible jealousy.
"Well I-I've been busy," she replied quickly.
Before Edward could say anything else, their drivers returned with some items in their hands.
"I see what caused it, someone put a bunch of rocks and sticks on the line!" Exclaimed Edward's driver.
"Whoever could have done that?" Edward wondered suspicious.
"Maybe we should wait and find out," Nia murmured. Then she noticed a trail of sparkles streaking back behind the trees. She had a feeling there was more than just deer that lived in the forest.
