got my physical copies of the TTLOTFK comics, both california and national anthem. i am so normal about them. ugh the art styles, especially national anthem. i want to pick these books apart. i will be studying them for the next two weeks. that's not even to mention the stories themselves. incredible. and the queerness of and in both of them. fuck val velocity tho. i can't bring myself to hate korse tho. i love jamie and his relationship with mike. i love mike as a dad. i want to kill val velocity myself. the nonbinary slay of vaya and vamos. the message of the girl only getting a new look on her own terms, not when others tried to change her. kara. the coloring of national anthem. blue bleeding and bleeding red. the worldbuilding. destroya. cola's grey streak. the ring mike held onto, even after. the ring he never gave her. fuck i love these comics

Killjoy Day of the Dead where the ‘joys spray paint paths of their friends’ favorite colors to help lead them home. Where the Mailboxes are flooded with letters and gifts to loved ones. Where killjoys remember their loved ones and celebrate their lives. Where they give offerings to the dead and to the Witch in hopes that their friends will be able to visit them that night. Where the Witch guides the dead along the painted paths to the people they called home, so they’re not alone reading their letters and opening their gifts. Sometimes the Witch brings them all of the way back for that night, sometimes not. There is always next year, and the knowledge that your friends are there, even if you can’t see them.

I can't stop thinking about how much the killjoys would love zines as they're a relatively low-tech way of sharing both art and information across the desert. I'm imagining killjoys from different zones trading zines when they cross paths in the desert, and Dr Death Defying promoting them on the radio. Photos taken on film and old gas stations kitted out to develop them. Zines sharing tips on everything from scavenging food in the desert to changing a spark plug, with detailed illustrations. Cherri Cola's poetry becoming popular in zines first before he got on the radio. Art is the weapon. Witness accounts of firefights, an archive of obituaries, issues treasured because the killjoys who put them together got ghosted not long after. How to reduce turbo lag, how to make Power Pup taste less like dog food, how to do liberty spikes. Zines by battery city escapees, zines by recovering waveheads, zines by 'joys injured in combat. Art depicting the "neverending party" at the Nest, the harsh beauty of the desert and the bright colours of the killjoys. There are really so many possibilities.

what IM really thinking about might be superficial but the cars of the Fabulous Killjoys (national anthem) is the same car that the Fabulous Four end up driving (danger days).

how did they get that car??? did mike just ditch it somewhere in california and the fab4 just find it and say “hell yeah CAR”

this is my best guess because in the last few pages of the last issue of national anthem, mike is seen in his content life and goes home in a normal car.

Maybe he knew The Girl’s mother since the analog wars were mentioned and let her have it and then the fab4 gets it…..,, food for thought,,,,,
