Tsukuyomaru
If Tsukuyomaru had never met her, he could have guarded the barrier like his father and his grandfather. If he had not fallen in love, he would still be amongst his kin. But then he would not have Shiori, and he would not have known love. And THOSE were worth his life.

Hello everyone! Fleet Week 2023 is just around the corner, so every day this week, the mods at @inu-mothership will be bringing you special sets of fic recs: one per day, featuring the fics that were posted as part of Fleet Week 2022!
Today we begin with Day 1: May 22, 2022. That day was New (to You) Ship Day, or a day where people wrote ships that they had never written before! Stories are listed below the cut, in alphabetical order. Sango has been hopelessly in love with her best friend Kagome since the day they met. And while Kagome has talked about nothing but boys, she's never had a boyfriend, and never made a move on a boy (or anyone else, for that matter), and so, Sango has been content to keep their relationship status quo.
That is, until Kagome bemoans the fact that prom is coming, and they don't have boyfriends, so wouldn't it be amazing for them to practice dating...with each other?

I'm actually getting ready to write about Shiori, and her parents in How Does Your Garden Grow? soon and I'm looking forward to the challenge. Tsukuyomaru and Shizu, like Touga and Izayoi, don't get much backstory or screen time in the anime/manga so they're kind of wide open for writing their personalities and their relationship. Granted, this is an AU, but I want to try to make them true to their originals if possible.

I just read that new Sumisawa interview, and I can't. He tried to excuse Sesshomaru for being such a bad father by saying that demons only raise the strongest children. Like, WTF? This man never watched Inuyasha, because in the OG series there are many examples of demon parents raising their children without making them go through some rite of strength.
We have Kanta's father teaching him how to fish, taking care of him, saving him when he falls into the water and gently drying him with a towel while giving him advice and being an excellent father.
And what about Shippo and his father? Shippo's father was raising him very well and he was only absent from his son's life when he died.
And then we have Shiori's father. Please do not tell me that this man was not going to be present in the life of his daughter. Sumisawa wants me to believe that Tsukuyomaru was going to abandon her daughter until she became strong? please. He would have loved to be able to raise her, the only thing that stopped him from it was his death.
Inu no Taisho who, even being about to die, was doing his job as a father talking to his son and trying to guide him. Sumisawa is telling me that Toga didn't do his best to teach Sesshomaru and raise him in the best possible way?
This Toga who died saving his family? really? Because I'm sure he would have been immensely happy raising his son.
Even in the fourth movie we can see demon parents taking care of their children:
Sesshomaru himself protecting, caring for and being a parent figure to Rin and Kohaku, even though they are not his biological children. Sesshomaru was being a better father figure to those two children than Pedomaru is to his own biological daughters and one of the reasons is that they never understood his character (nor the demonic father figures in Inuyasha).
Don't tell me demons don't raise their children. Don't tell me they only raise the strongest children, because that is not true.They should at least have the decency to clarify that something like that only happens in the shi**y fanfic they created called Yashahime.

Tsukuyomaru and Shizu Are the Best
I revisited Shiori’s brief arc in InuYasha since she is coming back in Yashahime, and Tsukuyomaru and Shizu are two of the best parents in InuYasha! I mean Tsukuyomaru genuinely loved his wife and daughter; so much so that he died protecting them. And Shizu fought and fought to protect Shiori from her horrid grandfather and the humans who hurt them. Honestly one of my favorite arcs in the show!

Shizu noticed Tsukyomaru preparing her favourite curry at the distance. “Hey…”
A disgruntled “hey” echoed in her lips, and of course she is drenched with the bodily fluids of the recent creature she killed, and of course the money is little to support what is to come, but she knew that smile would brighten her day.
“Say Shizu…” Tsukyomaru gladly poured a huge glass of red wine. “Shall we forget about what happened, and recount a much happier time….”
“Anything…” Shizu started sipping the wine. “Just speak my love…”
“One of my biggest regrets that I have, is well I supposed to sign up for volunteering a day to do face painting for a kids’ home, but instead I have to…you know…”
Shizu laughed at Tsukyomaru, as she sipped the wine. “I bet it was the community development that mess our schedules, which is bad, because I wanted to take that assignment but yeah, in the weirdest of circumstances, there is one scary demon disguising itself to suck the souls of the animals….”
Tsukyomaru shuddered a little. “…Not the most ideal time to meet, when I am scrambling my hands on these cute kittens and whining puppies while you are throwing bombs out of your bra, and slicing its throat with craft scissors….”
I nearly have a heart attack just thinking of that.
“But I saved your ass…”
Tsukyomaru found himself taking another wine glass, and poured himself that red bottle. “Perhaps, but I wish that it should be how our meeting goes…”
“You know, out of movies, not us strewed in the fluids of the demons and kittens staring at us blankly.”
Shizu cannot help but to smile again. “Perhaps it is mere coincidence…” as she happily scooped the curry. “You know what I wanted after a warm bowl of curry?”
“More drinks?”
Shizu shook her head. “Do you still have that tub of Ben and Jerry’s chunky monkey as I so want that…”
Tsukyomaru did a small bow to Shizu.
“Well at your service madam…”
Shizu gave a sly grin. “Loyal as any puppy, want to please its master, better than my bosses themselves… “ she is indeed very very drunk.
“Come and sleep my love, and forget about today, because another would come soon…”
Shizu slurred at Tsukyomaru, as he carried her up bridal style to her bed. “I wonder if a kitten just fell into my lap…”
“Maybe…”
Next day
Tsukyomaru smiled pensively as he looked over a couple walking their sheltie puppy constantly barking at that unusual sight.
What the hell?
A handsome young man picking up a stray grey kitten and its sibling- a beautiful tortoise shell kitten, passing it to Tsukyomaru’s arms. “Hey…can you bring them in…they seems lost….”
“Oh…”
An idea is planted in his mind.
I think Shizu would like that, and plus this is an inside joke that both of us would know.
Immediately he thought of the names of these kittens. For the tortie, it should be Aila, and the grey one- I think Earl Grey would be funny for Shizu.
He quickly give a sniff on them, only to give a sulk.
“Shit they need a bath”
Perhaps coincidence could brighten someone’s day, but now they need to be cleaned before presenting to his exhausted wife.

Hello everyone! We here at the Inu-Mothership are excited to bring you this week's Spotlight Saturday. For our second character-focused fic rec list, we bring you another of the series' hanyou: Shiori!
Shiori was an easy choice for our members; like Inuyasha, she has a tragic backstory, and is incredibly powerful. Her arc in the series is one that mirrors Inuyasha's in so many ways, and we loved having the opportunity to delve more deeply into the fandom's various depictions of her.
