APRIL LOVES
Tumblr media
Above: Image from The Scout Guide’s April events post, what is going on in our network this month? Find out here!
Tumblr media
For us here in Savannah, spring is here, April is my favorite month, its warm but not too warm, its cool but not cool, its rainy but not stormy, its got its fair share of bugs but its not terrible. Oh, and also its my birthday! Naturally your birth month is always your favorite right?  Well, this month I am also bringing some other loves to the table too!
HONEY : love this as a color for this month, warm and golden, inviting and instantly mood boosting.
DAFFODILS : could a flower be any more Spring? I think not!
GIMLETS : a classic cocktail with gin and lime, easy sipping for spring!
LETTER WRITING : each April I make a commitment to writing a letter a day for National Letter Writing month, this month is no exception!
HORN : love the look of horns in decor and also faux horn finishes on glasses, bags, etc.
ROSEMARY : one of my favorite herbs that is incredibly easy to pilfer around town as well! Wonderful to add to sweeter things to add a savory note!
SMOOTH SKIN : we are coming up on shorts, dresses, skirts and swimsuit season, now is as good a time as any to get things silky smooth!
What is your favorite thing about April?

Scout is out, and we could not be more grateful to everyone who joined us in celebrating The Scout Guide Austin Volume 7! After a year of scouting and a sweaty summer of shooting, cocktails and canapés at The Wayback Cafe & Cottages was the perfect way to celebrate.
While, it might’ve been the hottest summer yet (don’t fact check us on this one), that didn’t stop our Volume 7 members, friends and family from shooting oysters, sipping on drinks from The Aero Bar Austin and playing croquet - armed with fans, of course! Thank you so much to our Volume 7 members that make last Sunday so perfect!

The Wayback’s menu was a real crowd pleaser! New Brunswick oysters on the half shell with mignonette sauce, caprese skewers with tomato and basil from the garden, cajun spiced shrimp & homemade buttermilk biscuits with golden crisp fried chicken.

Nothing like a classic Manhattan for February. We kept it classic and went with the traditional recipe, save for the orange twist, just a little different garnish!
Cheers!

AUGUST LOVES
Tumblr media
“August brings into sharp focus and a furious boil everything I've been listening to in the late spring and summer.” - Henry Rollins
Tumblr media
August: hot hot heat, rain showers every afternoon and me personally, in hibernation. But there are still some things to love!
1. BLUEBERRIES : i’ve been eating blueberry pancakes from The Sentient Bean sunday brunch, blueberry muffins from Back in the Day and raw blueberries from Forsyth Farmer’s Market. YUMMMMMY!
2. SANGRIA : chilled wine with fruit, can’t be beat for summer time drinking pleasure.
3. SUNFLOWERS: one of my favorite wild flowers and they never fail to make you feel happy and sunny.
4. OLIVE GREEN: love the army green as we start to think about fall wardrobe. It is also a great neutral with bright neons and tropical colors too!
5. FROZEN CUSTARD : super creamy and delicious, there is nothing better than a cold dessert for the hottest temps of the year.
6. TROPICAL NAILS  : love to use bright colors on my nails this time of the year, with a little tan on the skin, bright colors POP!
7. AIR CONDITIONING : see above, i am in hibernation!
What do you love about August?

JULY LOVES : PALM FRONDS
Tumblr media
Palm Frond Party with fun bio shots of founder Caty Cote, from Flourish Collaborative. This diptych of encaustics from Christina Edwards transports us to summer time in Miami, where Christina splits her time. Another great palm shot from Flourish, and a peek into the queen of spiky foliage, Alison Seeger’s home, where she has stuck a few fronds into that gorgeous vase on her buffet.
Tumblr media
Another great shot of Caty, from Flourish Collaborative and those amazing brows with a perfect frond. The queen strikes again with this shot!  Alison’s kitchen which is perfect with the simple color scheme and a fun shot of a handmade bracelet from Lettees.
Tumblr media
And Casey Schivera’s spread in volume three features tons of great greenery but those palm fronds right beyond the gate are super beautiful, don’t you think?

JULY LOVES: TOMATOES
Tumblr media
One of my favorite foods to eat in the summer is tomatoes. Fresh, ripe and delicious, they are great on sandwiches, alone with some salt, or part of a delicious caprese!
This tomato jam recipe from Mark Bittman is one of my favorites and it is great way to use the bounty from your garden and spread it on toast or crackers!
INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 pounds good ripe tomatoes (Roma are best), cored and coarsely chopped
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
1 tablespoon fresh grated or minced ginger
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon salt
1 jalapeño or other peppers, stemmed, seeded and minced, or red pepper flakes or cayenne to taste.
PREPARATION
1.  Combine all ingredients in a heavy medium saucepan, Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring often.
2. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until mixture has consistency of thick jam, about 1 hour 15 minutes. Taste and adjust seasoning, then cool and refrigerate until ready to use; this will keep at least a week.
Yield: About 1 pint.

JULY LOVES
Tumblr media
“My life, I realize suddenly, is July. Childhood is June, and old age is August, but here it is, July, and my life, this year, is July inside of July. “ -Rick Bass
Tumblr media
1. TOMATOES : sweet and delicious right out of the garden, nothing is better than that!
2. GRILLING : cooking inside during these hot hot days is a no no nope! Nice to get the grill going and then just throw all the meats and veggies on it!
3.PALM FRONDS : clean and crisp, perfect for summer, nothing fussy, long lasting and interesting as a centerpiece.
4.BRIGHT LIPS : the heat makes me gravitate to brighter and brighter colors. I guess because the sun gets brighter and brighter, the colors can be bolder!
5. SPARKLING WINE ; chilled, bubbles, rose: need i say more?
6. NAVY : crisp navy has nautical vibes too which always feel apopro for this time for year.
7. STRIPES : see above, that little nautical vibe, boating, et al.
What do you love about July?

JUNE LOVES
Tumblr media
“Now Summer's fervour rages round, The sun darts fierce his burning rays; The flocks now seek the covert ground, And Nature pants beneath the blaze; But when cool Ev'ning's moist'ning dews, Full grateful on the plains descend; Who can the pleasing walk refuse To share the converse of a friend? Where the rapt soul may genuine truths impart, Nor dare to speak what's foreign to the heart.“ -Excerpt from Ode to June by Charles Graham
Tumblr media
June, with its days changing from spring to summer and flowers are still blooming and greenery is lush and plentiful, providing shade from the bright, bright sun.  The things I love about June are here and I’m happy to share them with you!
1. OPTIC WHITE : bright white is the perfect counterpart to other bright summer colors.
2. S’MORES : yummy melty marshmallow and chocolate with crunchy graham cracker crunch!
3. OUTDOOR LIVING : hanging by the pool, under the shade of an beach umbrella or at the picnic table, living outside is still feasible in June.
4. HYDRANGEA : blooming and happy, hydrangea are such pretty puff balls!
5. MOJITOS : refreshing mint and bright lime are keys to this summer time favorite, best served ice cold.

TSG LOVES YOU WORKSHOP
Tumblr media
Above: Invites went out to member businesses in January, and the USPS knocked it out of the park with these stamps, they are soooo cute! And perfect for our Valentine’s Day workshop!
The day of the workshop quickly approached. Snacks and breakfast was secured with Beetnix. They brought a new recipe for a breakfast bar with almond butter and then one of my favorite cold pressed juices from  their regular line up, Good Karma. That seemed fitting considering we were there to collaborate, communicate and cultivate relationships.
Tumblr media
Above: the EAT MEAT wall at Smith Brothers Butcher Shop served our needs well for presentations and visual interest. Tables were set with  printed placemats from a work by Sarah Brich, notebooks hand wax stamped with the TSG seal, Le Pens and Work Hard engraved pencils from Lily Bay Studio + Bazaar.  Small beaker glass bud vases were filled with flowers from Flower General.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Above: Erica and Caty from Flourish Collaborative share their GOLDEN CIRCLE worksheet with the group. This exercise helps you to define your WHY and provides you a statement that clearly and concisely lets people engage with you and your business.
Tumblr media
We finished the day with a wholesale panel with Mary Liz from M Liz Jewelry, Emily from Mamie Ruth and Elizabeth from Satchel. These three shared their best practices, tips and tricks for those looking to get into the wholesale market.
We then enjoyed a wonderful lunch from Smith Brothers, chosen for each attendee and finished with Smith Brothers signature bacon chocolate chip cookie from A Squad Bake Shop! We had a WONDERFUL day and I can’t wait to do it again!
Thanks for all who made it possible and informative for everyone!

JANUARY LOVES
Tumblr media
“Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year. Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right. Hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come, whispering, 'It will be happier.' The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. “ -Ralph Waldo Emerson
Tumblr media
With January we get crisp cool weather, sunny days and a chance to set some intentions, wipe clean the slate and reset! The holidays are over and past us, time with family & friends was cherished. Now it’s time to see our resolutions through and on to become habits. I’m loving these things for January and can’t wait to share more with you on them throughout the month.
1. DRIED FLOWERS : since fresh flowers aren’t in season much this time of year, dried flower arrangements or using dried foliage can be a welcome change and challenge!
2. BLOOD ORANGES : sweeter and deeper in flavor, these fruits add a little sophistication to your mimosa blend!
3. VISION BOARDS : an easy way to have a visual reminder of your intentions and goals for the year. My best tip: use the board to have inspiring images that capture the feeling you want for the year ahead. For example, no need to make a strict impossible to succeed at fitness goal if really what you want is to feel strong and capable.
4. DIY WITH IMPACT : time is our most valuable asset. When you take on a DIY project you want it to REALLY pack a punch, we’ll talk with a few people about their ideas for DIY projects with BIG impact!
4. OLD FASHIONED COCKTAIL : warm and cozy for chilly nights by the fire!
6. HAZELNUT : deep and rich, this color provides feelings of home and shelter. Also pairs well with Pantone’s 2017 color of the year : Greenery!
7. DE-CLUTTERING : whether you subscribe to the MonKari method or you just like to go through and pitch things into a trash can willy-nilly, it ALWAYS feel good to clean out our cluttered areas this month!
What do you love about January?
