This lovely plant from Late Night even looks more elegant in a glass vase. The vase is still recolorable with a single CASt channel, costs §175, and found in Decor > Plants. Requires Late Night as I cloned it from the original version..

Showtime Crystal Ball Stand as a Functional Lamp

I never paid attention to the stage props category, and when I did this pretty thing caught my attention, so I made this one as a functional lamp because why not? Two CAStable channels, costs §175, and found in Lighting > Floor Lamps. Base game compatible.

Supernatural Collector's Plates Emptied

Yep, another decluttered decor item from yours truly. And this time it's this plate rack from Supernatural that would be even more useful as a working surface. Has five slots, three CAStable channels, costs §100, and found in Surfaces > Displays, Misc. Also base game compatible.

All items have the same or reduced polycounts as their original counterparts.

1to3 Wicker Breeze End Table (Original TS1 to TS2 by Ogularama)

I have a LOT of things I missed from the original Sims, and thankfully Ogularama converted this end table to TS2, so that I could do them for TS3. Has two CAStable channels and 7 slots, found in Surfaces > End Tables. Costs §50 and contains the original catalog description from TS1. Best recolored with solid colors as some parts will become blurry when textured patterns are used. Credits to Ogularama for the mesh. Polycount: 1165 (hLOD)/748 (mLOD).

4to3 Antique Metal Milk Jug with Branch

A little something to spookify your homes from the TS4 base game. Three CAStable channels with only one preset. Also comes with a smaller version to fit on smaller surfaces. Costs §445 and §345 for the smaller version, found in Decor > Plants. Also contains the original catalog description from TS4. Polycount: 800 (hLOD)/724 (mLOD)

In which I put my own spin on an old favorite: 1t2 Barrett's Boardwalk from Hot Date

I've just gone home for the holidays, so this will be my last update until the New Year. I didn't build much in 2023 - if I didn't have complete inspiration in a project I just couldn't bring myself to spend many hours going back and forth on something. But as I continue to build out my beach front shopping district, I felt like bringing back a classic Hot Date lot to serve as the main shopping district. And I'm happy with the results so far!

This is loaded with CC (including as much 1t2 content as I can find on the internet) so I will not be sharing it, but it has been a lot of fun to bring the TS1 shops to life in this game. I think my favorite is the ice cream parlor (if I could just get the darn barista to spawn...). That floor is not CC, btw.

I'm not done with it but have started to playtest. The beach needs to be completed, and although the front is very faithful to the original, I feel like its missing something. Maybe I need to dress up the port hole windows more? It just feels naked. I am also considering extending the roof over the restaurant patio.

Also, in referencing @philosimy's TS1 database, I learned that this lot had a very different look if you installed House Party before Hot Date??? Story for another time, but Hot Date was probably the second EP I ever owned, so I'd only ever seen the Downtown lots as they would ship without other EP objects. Wild!

I was gonna make a point how I love old games because I can stuff it full of mods and it'll still load in seconds (The Sims 1 at least), but then I realized I only have like 7,200 downloads for TS1 - And I have 32,200 for TS2......

Wait that is a lot lol

Although TS2 loads in 2-5 minutes for me with 7.6 GBs of CC.

But tbh I attribute pretty much all of that to the fact that 4/5ths of my CC is either CAS, mods, hood deco, walls/floors, or an EAxis recolor, and only 1/5th of that is meshes adding to the object limit.

I finally managed to finish rewriting the Regional Differences page for TS1 on TCRF.

I made a few new discoveries, documented a few that were known but weren't up there, and had a few brought to my attention by a few friends of mine. But most importantly it's been completely rewritten from the ground up to make it much for a much more streamlined reading experience.

Summer Vibes at the Beach Lots

Personally, I enjoy beach lots. The swimming, the sandcastles, sunburn and all of the things that the creators put into the game to make it as true to life as possible was great. EAxis really made this game so worth playing, which is why will still do years after it stopped being supported.

This lot is 46 Lagoon Moon Road, the boardwalk lot in the Sims 1 Vacation EP with good eats and fun! This is the reclaimed Public Beach lot. This lot is CC rich as there are many things on a boardwalk that do not exist in the game. Happy Swimming!

Next up we have 47 Lagoon Moon Road. Sunset Beach is one of the locations where tourists can stop in and have an awesome time. Even though there is an open beach, I still included the pool. Enjoy the parties, the water, fires and music, and other amenities Pets welcome.

Last, but certainly not least, we have the beach hotel. This is my first crack at making a hotel. I tried to include as much as I could, but space and elevation was limiting, However There is rooming for singles as well as family size rooms that can accommodate many different situations. The rooms range from $632-1229 per night. Very appropriate for family vacations and honeymoons.

This is all for now on the TS1 Vacation lots but there will be more. There are three more for the Volcano Way area. I can’t wait to get to those. I don’t have anything built yet but I will get started on it soon. The farming and creole community of Old Town has a lot of my attention as there are a lot of properties to renovate.

3. Early Days - The Goths

So you might be wondering why Mercer was so bad, what happened to Cecilia and how did the Sororah sisters end up with one dad apiece.  It all started in October 2004.  I managed to get a whole lot of play in in Little Carping, before the release of University in March 2005 when, finally, I brought in some new characters so the following stories are about the early residents of Little Carping.  The Goths, Vaughans and Phoebe Sororah all moved on quite considerably during that very brief time just after the game released and the arrival of the University expansion.  It’s kind of strange writing up these stories more fully after so much time.  The original events were much more fragmented of course, and I kind of melded the sims responses into a story for each family based on my interpretation of what they did.  When I talk about Randolph’s response to Cecelia’s boredom and frustration below, for instance, he did actually have the gall to lecture her one evening.  If I had been Cecelia I would have punched him but she just apologised at the time.  Still, Cecelia’s frustration stuck at home looking after Gunther, as a knowledge sim, was very apparent at the time.

-------------------- The senior Goths quickly settled into a large square house (based on their house in TS1) on the most exclusive road (Buckingham Road) in Little Carping.  They had almost no money left after the purchase of the house and grounds and much of the interior was not even furnished but they still just managed to buy it.  Randolph though thought that it was important for them to live in a property commensurate with his social standing and Cecelia’s for that matter – Randolph had married in Cecelia, a scion of the Crumplebottom family of course.

The house has an impressive entry with two story windows and a double stairway to the upper level.  To the right is a large dining room at the front and a kitchen behind.  The kitchen had some furnishing (in blue!) but the dining room was unfurnished at first.  To the left of the hallway is the lounge (or drawing room probably for the Goths), furnished in red and cream.  This was also unfurnished at first.  Behind that is Randolph’s study and then across the back of the ground floor is a music room (nothing in there at first, LOL) and the downstairs bathroom.  Just in front of that is a set of stairs which lead to the cellars.  Going upstairs, there is also a large landing space with five bedrooms to the sides.  The master bedroom is at the front of the house to the right with an en-suite bathroom.  There is another large bedroom on the left frontage.  Three smaller bedrooms are at the back of the house.  Only two rooms had beds at first – there was nothing else up there apart from bare wooden floors and one small wall light on the landing – they couldn’t even afford to decorate the walls.  Randolph and Cecelia got depressed just going to bed.   I’ve always liked having sims earn absolutely everything they have – I don’t use money cheats all that often.  In buying the plot of land and building the shell of the house, the Goths were practically broke.  They had one toilet and a fridge, counter and sink downstairs and a bed and crib upstairs.  There were several rooms where the windows had not been put in and the upstairs landing had no bannisters (so watch your step in the one light dark up there – sadly sims don’t fall off edges).  So although Randolph had a place to live that was sufficiently impressive and reflective of his status as a representative of the Goth family, they were flat broke and he had to get to work pretty quickly. 

Randolph naturally went to see his father

“I need a job, father”, he said, “or Cecelia and I won’t be able to manage.”

“You will need to learn the ropes my boy, if you’re to be any use to the firm” said his father

and so Randolph started at the very bottom in the mailroom at the family firm and started bringing home a small salary with which to keep the family afloat.  For the first few years, they were living hand to mouth buying food and paying bills and occasionally buying some décor or furniture to open up a bit more of the house to use.  Most evenings were spent studying for the skills and knowledge Randolph needed for work leaving little time for his wife and son.  After that, he also had to spend quite a bit of time socialising and pressing flesh to develop the necessary friendship network in order to advance.  And advance he did, as time passed, Randolph was a success at work, earning several promotions in rapid succession.

In the meantime, Cecelia stayed at home.  She spent most of her time reading cookery books with the aim of not incinerating her entire family at dinner time.  She did wonder why she had spent all that time at school studying hard and doing well when what she ended up with was caring for a small child all day, doing the housework and not a lot else.  Little Carping offered her little in the way of distraction and entertainment.  The only community spaces at that time were a grocery, a clothes shop and a – albeit nice – little park.  “There only so much shopping and strolling I can do,” she complained to Randolph one evening, “and you can’t have an intelligent conversation with a small child.” 

“I really think, as my wife, you need to remember what I am trying to do for our family,” Randolph responded pompously, “I need to come home to a quiet well-ordered house and to be able to get on with preparing for work.” 

Cecelia then became pregnant again and barfed all over the place – apparently Randolph didn’t need to spend absolutely all his time pursuing knowledge and skills.  The physical toll of the pregnancy, her constant hunger and tiredness, plus looking after Gunther’s needs, meant she hadn’t time to get round to everything and much of the housework got left undone.  Randolph was often doing his studying surrounded by dirty pots from breakfast which meant the socialising he had to do was done outside the house since it was not a pleasant place to invite people over.  Cecelia was miserable and found herself thinking back to when she was at school.  “I was such a good student,” she thought, “I enjoyed it so much.” 

Poor Gunther was stuck between a bored and increasingly fractious mother and a father who had no time to spend with him. 

On the other hand, Randolph’s success meant more money coming into the house in wages and a series of bonus payments.  This meant that completing the build by inserting windows and the occasional door and decorating and furnishing more spaces was possible.  They furnished the lounge (in the aforementioned red and cream) and bought a TV so Cecelia had at least something to watch and pass the time.  They bought an easel to stick in the study though that appealed more to Randolph than Cecelia.  He needed the creativity points.  They were even able to afford a new bed for Gunther when he aged up which was fortunate as Marianne arrived shortly after.  She was a brown haired, grey-eyed baby like her mother.

Then, while partially furnished (they may have had the piano by then), they invited the Headmaster of the local public school (one Vince Walter*) over and Cecelia gave him Mac n Cheese for dinner (not burnt).  Both Randolph and Cecelia schmoozed for all they were worth and Gunther showed Mr Walter the piano.  Gunther got into the local public** school – probably more on the Goth name than how impressive the Goth residence was at the time I should imagine.  The Mac n Cheese was probably good though – Cecelia is pretty clever and practical after all and she had several points in cooking by this point.

So Cecelia was bored and being lectured to by her ambitious distant husband with a small baby to look after, Randolph was out most of the time with work concerns and Gunther went off every morning in his natty school uniform.  Randolph tried not to show disappointment in Gunther’s slow academic progress.  Because he was a bit slow.  Poor Gunther. * This is the early days of the game remember, so I still had all the regular Pleasantview townies in the game.  I got rid of them all later ** yeah, I know private school in America but I’m British so I’ll call it public school.  Actual schools for the public are called state schools here.

How do you build/design your sims’ homes? Back in the TS1. I build square houses with in every corner a room....that hasn't really changed haha. Except now the rooms are elsewhere. It's challenging for me not to use square shapes for houses, but that's fun! What is your least favorite sim age? I only play with teens and (young) adults. Ever since yesterday's SimTuber's live stream, I'm trying to find the dog that could be downloaded to The Sims 1 game way before The Sims: Unleashed came out.

It had no walk animation whatsover, with the dog in question just gliding on the floor. It was a dark brown sighthound and occationally it was the big pool of greenish substance that was probably supposed to its poop.

I can't find it anywhere. The google shows me only the stupid actual dogs in TS1.

LuLu Lounge Maxis Remodel

Inspired by Studio Town’s very own 82 Sunrise Boulevard (aka Fairchild Film Studios), I bring you my latest Maxis Remodel...LuLu Lounge! I first teased this back in September but I never quite happy with the interior (it is a huge footprint) so I kept trying different ideas and tweaking things. Nonetheless, I finally have declared it “done” and ready to share!

As usual, I did make some architectural changes. The whole building has been extended by one tile, mainly so I could dress up the entrance with two-story doors and a new marquee. The original description said LuLu Lounge offers velvet couches and ambient music, but as I leaned into the Studio Town aesthetic, I wanted something more “old Hollywood.” That meant lots of wood and a little art nouveau styling. The second floor is accessible but largely decorative, but there is a small office above the bathrooms if you want to run it as a business. Everything has been tested in a copy. The uploaded file has never been played. 

There is some CC included in the file, which is outlined below. Because this makeover was inspired by Studio Town, downloading the 1t2 conversions is vital to the lot appearing as shown. Please note that Argon’s seasonal topiares are bundled, so you’ll be getting the set of 5 (Egg, Skyscraper, Pyramid, Llama, and Dolphin). Thank you to the CC creators!

There's no penalty for repeating interactions there. There's a way to hack this, though: the corner booth introduced in Hot Date. If they're tired it's a moot point, just send them home instead.Īs I said, you need to watch out for mood.

Make sure you either feed them or watch TV with them. Often times when you invite someone over their needs are crashing. Socializing in this game is a bit more finnicky: both Sims need to be in a good mood and you need to keep cycling through the options. So your couple will be fine, they won't grow apart. Also, I only had full meals because with Max cooking skills they will completely fill the hunger bar which is super nice. Since money isn't a problem because of gnomes, snacks are non-issue. You could argue it kills the fun, though. Getting into the magic system is a bit time consuming, though. There's also rain of riches in Makin' Magic which isn't that hard to create once you master all the games and whatnot. You can make about 21-25 in a day from max mood which is more than the highest paying salary (which I think was Hacker and it's 1450 a day.) For that reason, jobs in this game are unnecessary. With level 10 mechanical they sell for 100 a pop. Screw painting, it's gnomes where it's at (woodworking table from Livin' Large.) You should start by training mechanical for this reason. It's a chore but you're better off doing it sooner than later. I usually maxed all skills right away in a new household. They need all the basic skills so it's best to get it out of the way. Alternatively you can cook up a perfect garden charm with Makin' Magic and it'll make all your plants bloom. Gardens are indeed hell and a gardener is a MUST. It's not that hard once you get down the basics but you have to learn the ropes. I love TS1 and have spent more time playing it than I maybe care to admit. I'm on day 5 of trying to befriend this absolute b*tch Cornelia Goth. And patience.Įdit: I just got a phone call that said, "Congratulations, your before and after pictures will be featured in "Pecks and Glutes." Your award is 1200 simoleons." Lol what the hell?Įdit 2: My Sim is level 8 creativity now and making about 100 simoleons per painting.Įdit 3: Unfriendly Sims are REALLY difficult to befriend. I am on a journey to achieve what I could never achieve as a child: getting an actual rich family in TS1. I got a random phone call saying I earned $2000 from my recent stock investments! Wohoo! And you can actually get a full night's sleep by sleeping on the couch. That said, the game has some fun surprises. And there is no eye dropper tool (seriously?) I find myself squinting at the menu trying to make out which tiles are carpet or wood. Floor tiles and wallpaper not being categorized is also a huge pain. Sometimes you find something you kinda like, but you wanna see if you can find something better.if you don't find something better, you have to keep clicking to find that outfit you liked. This is especially a problem with all the expansions because there are so many options. Tapping through the clothing options is pretty irritating. My Sim's "room" need stayed on red the entire work day because there was a puddle of cat pee in the corner of my lot when they left for work in the morning. An eternity of going to school, doing homework, rinse, repeat.no weekends, no fun.never growing up.and if your grades drop, well, say goodbye to your family. I think Hell might be being reincarnated as a child in the Sims 1. My Sim kept trying to kiss his crush autonomously and kept getting rejected. If you don't keep an eye on your Sims they will muck up their relationships autonomously. Relationships in general are harder to maintain. Forget to interact with your spouse for a few days because you're busy going to work, building skills, and maintaining the work friend requirement? Well your spouse no longer loves you. If your Sim is low-level in their career, you might spend half the day's wages on food. And the hilarious part is this happy music starts playing and my Sim does a happy dance when they sell their painting for 5 simoleons. My Sim is level 5 creativity and selling their paintings for 5 simoleons. I thought I'd make my unemployed Sim make some extra cash by painting. So either read up on cooking, or your Sims will be starting a raging inferno on a regular basis (and even then they probably will.) Your Sims don't gain any cooking skill from cooking. You gotta water all plants, or they die. There are so many challenging aspects to this game that I forgot about. After ages of trying I finally got The Sims 1: Complete Collection to work on my computer.
