unused doll
"Hey, I got the file trace from the 100% playthru. Every asset the game ever loaded."
"Fuck yes. I'm so bad, Sierra, I can't get past the second to last chapter, you're a lifesaver. So we just run this against the archive manifests and…"
"Not too much, huh."
"Guess not. That's all the leftovers. A a bunch of sounds, voice codec compressed, a few textures, just one mesh."
"Bones with it?"
"Yep. Usual format, I think, looking at the headers; not the one from the beta. Must have been cut pretty late. Lemme search for the mesh name, maybe there's a… yep, there's character data too. All commented out."
"That whole character data file gets loaded every scene, either from cache or disk, so that's probably why we missed it. So I think we just need to uncomment it and add it back to the model viewer on the extras menu? Yeah."
"Repacking and restarting. One sec."
"Oh, there she is! Aww, she's kinda cute. I wonder why they cut her. Play her voice lines."
"This one is pleased to serve."
"You think she was one of the companion characters?"
"Or a summon."
"Start a screen recording, let's get this up before someone else does."
"Started."
"I'm your doll. Use me as you see fit."
"Companion, definitely."
"We do not bleed as you do, but we still serve the same cause."
"Her VA's really good. Hard to sell a line like that."
"Spin her around, let's get the full model."
"This one is… afraid, Guardian. It doesn't know what it did to deserve this."
"Wonder what that scene that's from."
"No idea. Is that the last voice line?"
"Dunno. Click it again."
"Please, Guardian. Please don't put me back in the box."
"Please, Guardian. Please don't put me back in the box."
"Please, Guardian. Please don't put me back in the box."
"Guess that's all of them… Dani?"
"Sorry. Having a moment. Look. This is going to sound weird."
"What is?"
"Leave the model viewer open a little longer."
"Why?"
"Just do it, Sierra." □

Working on extracting more textures in Beautiful Katamari. Unfortunately, I have encountered an obstacle: Xenia and Xbox Live are incompatible. This means that I cannot use Renderdoc to capture textures like the goal boards. It’s really a shame, but I am figuring out other ways of extracting the textures from Xbox 360 games.
Tumblr media
It seems that I may have found an unused/placeholder sprite? This was found in a capture of the King’s Royal Rainbow.
Tumblr media
And here I captured the results screen and the King has some strange expressions. I am not sure when or if he makes these faces, but one of my friends discovered that they literally made up a pogchamp King.
Tumblr media
With that being said, if anyone ever has any texture rip requests, either RB or comment with your request. Thanks!

Will Wright was passionate about rallying and how it was shown in The Sims 2
While researching the development history of the original The Sims on TCRF, I came across a link to a fan site about Will Wright in the sources:
This is a very interesting site. There's a biography of him. And one of the chapters describes that Will Wright was into rallying and even participated in one of them:
https://web.archive.org/web/20200119021426/http://will-wright.com/willshistory1.php
Will Wright also used to be into Rally, before he was into computers. "It's very small in the States. The American version of Rally was in fact a little more hardcore than the European. It wasn't as competitive but they didn't allow pace notes and so when you're going down the road you don't know what's around the corner. I still love following the WRC".
He plotted a route through the southern states that was hundreds of miles longer than the more popular path. It avoided the northern roads likely to attract more contestants and police. He and a partner, the race organizer, zoomed across the country in a Mazda RX-7 outfitted with a souped-up engine, a roll cage, an extra fuel tank, a night-vision scope, two police radar detectors and a prototype of a radar jammer. The team got one speeding ticket near Indianapolis and Mr. Wright talked his way out of two others, once by pretending to be a lost local resident and once he convinced an Indiana state trooper he was a writer for an automobile magazine test-driving a car when he was pulled over for doing 104 mph.He actually won that race with a time of 33 hours, 39 minutes.".

How it was shown in The Sims 2?
And this hobby of Will Wright was shown in the game. For example, in the form of this collection of objects:
And the tire table was posted by EA for the download as far back as the turn of 2004-2005. But there's also the sports car from the base game.
It was supposed to be an aspiration reward. But it was also, at the same time, a CAREER reward for the career of a "car racer", the costumes for which are available in the base game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But it's not that simple. After digging around in the car code, at the level of, I must say, my shabby knowledge, I came to the conclusion that there should be two career rewards for each career. The first is something given out at early career levels, like a punching bag, purely to pump up skills faster. But the SECOND award should have been... cars - and not at all "decorative" or working as a "personal cab", aka house - community lot - other community lot - house with the additional option of going to visit other sims.
Suppose your sim works in the police. At the beginning of his career he can get a scanner, and at later stages he can get his own, real, personal police car. When he selects the "Drive to Work" option in this car, he will not go to the unknown, but, for example, to a community lot where thieves, robbers, pickpockets like the Unsavory Charlatan, drug dealers and pimps will show up. Sim can arrest all these criminals, take them to the police station, and interrogate them "with intensity".
Pretty cool, huh? About the AUTORACING... Take a look at this ancient "kind of mod"...
Swimming competition!!! (Note - part of it, namely the lane dividers in the pools, "went" to Nightlife EP). And the dog competitions are in The Sims Pet Stories! On that basis, then why wouldn't there be car racing in the game as well? Especially since the motion animation is in Nightlife EP.
But everything is not so simple with the racers. Something is missing... Maybe THIS... (helmet)

Please pay attention to this creator's work in general. If it is something from the game, you get a "good and quality" thing. However, when you start to "unselect", there are problems with textures and with a lot of polygons, which leads to a bad result.
Link to the content:
I also noticed that the helmets matched the colors of the suits. So there had to be a green suit, a yellow suit, and a pink suit.
На русском языке (and how to make races suits available in sport category of clothes):

THE most insane detail in the files from the p1 alpha is these portraits of oyun, vlad jr and maria labeled as the healers, with the same filename format as the "injured" portraits of dankovsky that are actually used in the game. implying there might have been some point in the game where the healers looked like this

Bummer when you have two prototype roms (Aladdin SNES, Jurassic Park SNES) that have been around forever, go to check TCRF to see if anyone's found anything, and discover they do not even have pages to document them
One of those times where I'm like "I guess I could document them myself" but I am not tech savvy enough to do anything more than a surface level look, and even then, I might not have the time to do that right now
I did at least play Proto-Aladdin up to about halfway through the game a few weeks ago and did not notice anything different at all. On the other hand, even five minutes with Jurassic Park and it's obvious that the position of items has shifted around, enemy AI and collision detection isn't complete, the prototype is stuck in PAL mode, etc.
Jurassic Park was reportedly cobbled together in as little as six months, so I imagine it probably changed a lot very quickly. Who knows what could be lurking in this ROM. But it's a big game and the back half runs out of steam, growing pretty tedious...
Oh well. Somebody will get around to it eventually, I suppose. The SNES version of Jurassic Park has been gaining more and more attention lately, thanks to patches that add save file support and even a randomizer.
(But not my video. Never my video.)

Tales of Symphonia (gamecube) had a set of development discs uncovered and dumped a few years ago, and it bugs me that a lot of it still remains completely undocumented even on The Cutting Room Floor. Unfortunately because it's a 60-70 hour JRPG and many of the debug menus/areas are in Japanese with missing kanji, exploring and documenting it in any detail would be a huge effort.
It's hard to explain the scope of what is missing in documentation. TCRF only includes some of the known US testing/debug areas, when the development discs has a whole collection of original japanese test rooms, unfinished localization and area layouts, and eerie placeholder dialogue that would remind you of haunted ps1 demo discs EVERYWHERE. It's in a perfect sweetspot for a dev build where it has most of the game's content in it, but still has the rough edges and test-objects that usually get removed before launch.
I want to do some of it myself when I get some time on my hands, though I'm not sure when that will be LOL

I finally managed to finish rewriting the Regional Differences page for TS1 on TCRF.
I made a few new discoveries, documented a few that were known but weren't up there, and had a few brought to my attention by a few friends of mine. But most importantly it's been completely rewritten from the ground up to make it much for a much more streamlined reading experience.
