Thursday Doors - Florence Court - Part 1
I’ve been meaning to feature Florence Court House on Thursday Doors for a long time now but there is so much to see that I’ve divided it into two parts, so welcome to part 1. Above is a view of the back of this 18th century Georgian property which is set in a large estate and has the Benaughlin and Cuilcagh Mountains for a backdrop. It’s located about eight miles from the town of Enniskillen in…

History of Castlemartyr Resort in Cork, Ireland
Tumblr media
Castlemartyr Resort provides a unique combination of luxury, history and grandeur for an unforgettable experience in County Cork. Nestled amid the woodlands of Ireland’s southern coast, this historic destination provides guests with a spectacular location for unforgettable events and gatherings.
The remains of this medieval castle have been in existence since 1210, making it one of the oldest castles on the island. It was originally built by The Knights Templar in 1210, and they were one of the most famous of Christian military orders under the leadership of Richard Earl de Clare, better known as Strongbow.
In the centuries that followed, the lands changed hands many times, among its owners were Sir Walter Raleigh and Richard Boyle, the first Earl of Cork. It was under Boyle’s stewardship that the construction of the magnificent Manor House took place in the 17th century. Painstakingly restored to its original grandeur, the Manor House now forms the centerpiece of the Castlemartyr Resort.
Tumblr media
Other historical features include the unique Templar Cross, which composes the centerpiece of the Castlemartyr’s Golf Club coat of arms. Following a rebellion in 1578, the Earl of Desmond James Fitzgerald had his estates forfeited to the Crown and awarded to Sir Walter Raleigh.
Prior to Sir Walter Raleigh’s departure from Youghal on historic voyage to South American Richard Boyle, the first Earl of Cork acquired Raleigh’s Estates.
The Tomb of the third Earl of Cork can be found on the Estate.
Tumblr media
From Strongbow and the Knight’s Templar to Sir Walter Raleigh and the Earl of Cork, Castlemartyr Resort and village have their own fascinating history to tell. The ‘Manor House Experience’ at Castlemartyr Resort captures some of that rich history for our guests, with historically titled Manor House guest rooms, complete with plaques giving further insight into our history.⠀

Long Room at Trinity College Considered one of the most beautiful libraries in the world, the ceiling is a striking 213 foot vaulted chamber, making it hard to photograph, as a tourist. The library houses the Book of Kells as well as thousands of rare books. It's a breathtaking environment, and reminded us of Harry Potter (though apparently it was not in the movie). -- Dublin, Ireland May 2023 . . . #TravelIreland #DiscoverIreland #IrishAdventures #IrishExplorer #VisitIreland #IrishTravel #IrishScenery #fujifilm #xt3 #MyFujifilmLegacy #dublin #trinitycollege #trinity #harrypotter — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/Gd3TeOl

Welcome To WandÉire
We are two students who share a passion for the beauty and wonders of Ireland and we found it disappointing that tourists tend to only see certain areas and attractions that Ireland has to offer while there are so many hidden and not so hidden gems to be explored in other areas of the country.
To combat this we have created WandÉire, a concept that promotes and encourages tourists to travel to areas of Ireland that are steeped in heritage, culture, scenery and other attractive aspects so that tourists can gain a more immersive experience while they explore and navigate through the lesser-known gems that our country has to offer.
Thank you and happy travels!

Thursday Doors - Moira
Thursday Doors – Moira
This Thursday Doors post comes from the Northern Ireland town of Moira. I took the photos as we drove through and really like the mix of stone and brick in this first one. A little further up the street we find Jackson’s hardware and cookware store. Apparantly they sell some lovely garden furniture too, judging by the items on display in the above image. Another Jackson’s store, with similar…
