Stalker del castello, Loch Laich. Si crede che Castle Stalker – in gaelico Stalcaire, che significa cacciatore o falconiere – fosse originariamente il sito di un Fortalice (un piccolo edificio fortificato) appartenente ai MacDougall quando erano signori di Lorn, e costruito intorno al 1320. I MacDougalls persero il loro titolo dopo la loro sconfitta da parte di re Bruce a Brander Pass nel 1308, ma lo riconquistò per un periodo dopo il 1328. Intorno al 1388 la Signoria di Lorn passò agli Stewart, le terre tra cui Castle Stalker. Intorno al 1620 il castello passò nelle mani dei Campbell di Airds a seguito di una scommessa da ubriaco del settimo capo Stewart, Duncan, in cambio di un wherry a otto remi. Gli Stewart di Appin, sotto Stewart di Ardsheal, riconquistarono il castello nel 1689 quando uscirono con re Giacomo VII (altrimenti Giacomo II) contro re Guglielmo, ma dopo la sconfitta nella battaglia di Dunkeld il castello fu nuovamente incamerato dai Campbell. Gli Stewart sotto Ardsheal si rifiutarono di consegnarlo quando fu poi assediato dai Campbell per diversi mesi fino a quando Ardsheal non ottenne una resa onorevole nel 1690. Al tempo del 1745 Rising Castle Stalker era tenuto dai Campbell con una guarnigione di circa 59 truppe governative. Dopo la battaglia di Culloden nel 1746 il castello fu utilizzato dalle forze governative come centro locale dove i membri del clan dovevano cedere le armi. Melrose Abbey, Scottish Borders. .

David I founded Scotland’s first Cistercian monastery in 1136. Being so close to the border, Melrose Abbey suffered at English hands during the Middle Ages. Melrose’s location put it on the front line of conflict with England during the later Middle Ages.

Melrose was attacked by Edward I (1300 and 1307) and Edward II (1322) required major repairs. Also Richard II’s attacked Melrose in 1385 led to a complete rebuilding of the abbey church.

The Abbey suffered from the Protestant Reformation in 1560. Afterwards, the existing monks were allowed to stay on: the last died in 1590.

Craigievar Castle or the „Pink Castle“ near Alford, Aberdeenshire.

Craigievar Castle was built in the Scottish Baronial style in the 16th century. This iconic tower house is one of the best preserved and the most loved castles in Scotland. Its exterior remains virtually unchanged since William Forbes completed it in 1626.

Craigievar was the Forbes family home until the 1960s. National Trust for Scotland is now responsible for the castle.

Thikse Gompa or Thikse Monastery is a gompa (Tibetan-style monastery) affiliated with the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It is located on top of a hill in Thiksey approximately 19 kilometres (12 mi) east of Leh in Ladakh, India. Castle Fraser, Aberdeenshire. Castle Fraser was started in the mid-fourteenth century as a three storey rectangular Tower House. The surrounding lands, known as Muchall, were originally the property of Alexander Stewart, Earl of Mar. However, when he died in 1435 without a legitimate heir, the estates passed to the Crown. It was James II (1437-60) who granted both Muchall and Stoneywood to Thomas Fraser in the mid-fifteenth century. It was most probably Thomas who built the Tower House on the site which became known as Muchall-in-Mar Castle. The castle was substantially upgraded in the sixteenth century by Michael Fraser, Sixth Laird of Fraser. He built two new towers on diagonally opposite corners of the existing Tower House to form a Z-plan castle. Work started on the project in 1575 but progress was slow and it was still incomplete when he died in 1588 leaving his son, Andrew Fraser, to complete the build in 1636. Andrew was elevated to Lord Fraser in 1633. In 1897 Frederick Mackenzie Fraser died childless and his widow, faced with the extensive costs of maintaining the property, sold it in 1921 to Weetman Pearson, Viscount Cowdray. In the 1950s some work was undertaken to remove sections of the nineteenth century modifications. The castle was gifted to the National Trust for Scotland in 1976. Cawdor Castle near Nairn.

Cawdor Castle dates from the late 14th century, built as a private fortress by the Thanes of Cawdor. An ancient medieval tower built around the legendary holly tree.

The name of Cawdor still connects the castle to Shakespeare's play Macbeth. The truth is, Cawdor Castle was not built until the late 14th century, making it impossible for King Duncan to have lost any blood or indeed Lady Macbeth much sleep in this particular house.
