Daniel Molloy and Aids terror

The simple fact that there were almost *three years of grinding fear* for all American men sexually active with men between the discovery that Aids is caused by a sexually transmitted virus in the summer of 1982 and the spring of 1985 when the first test for Hiv was finally available, coupled with the 8 year average time it takes to show symptoms of Aids, was horrifically traumatic for those at risk.

Horrific fear more than enough to explain Daniel, his book canon and AMC.

The text is perfectly clear that Daniel was not ill. The only thing making Daniel sick in TQOTD is effects of severe chronic alcoholism. What Daniel was, was terrified. That terror drives his behavior in the last three years of his story.

Imagine the trauma of finding out the pill you took at a party last month is likely to cause you an horrific, drawn out ugly, viciously stigmatized death five years from now. There is NO cure, NO treatment, and NO way to know if you are one of the unlucky marked for death. Meanwhile, your friends start dieing of it all around you, more every month. This goes on for years.

Daniel lived a horror movie.

Every. Single. Gay and Bi. Man. and Hemophilliac. Born. Before. 1965 in. America. Lived. a Horror. Movie.

Doubting the trauma of the Aids crisis on a bi man of Daniel's age is directly comparable to doubting Covid had any effect on anyone's life. Half of LGBTQ+ Americans over 50 have some level of Aids PTSD. Sensitivity to that fact is basic decency.

At the moment i am 60* or so pages into queen of the damned and I have yet to have any meaningful opinion of any kind on it. A lot of set up from characters i dont really care about.... Im at the beginning of Pandoras section and im interested to know more about her, but that's really all im feeling.

currently reading the vampire chronicles. finished iwtv, halfway through tvl.

kinda loving it, but can yall be honest and tell me which books in the series are absolutely worth reading and relevant?

i gotta say as a devil's minion fan, this speculation of it being explored in s2 makes no sense. it's not thematically related and would just distract from the main narrative, and the same goes for s3 which we know is going to be tvl. if there is an eternal sunshine thing going on it would make sense for them to throw hints about it but the whole story shouldn't be told this early. it's just not the time for it. sticking some random unrelated scenes into almost every episode or having an extra episode suddenly dedicated to it in the middle of a completely different story would just be bad writing. i think people are just being really impatient here? dm is in book three. and we already have book 1 split into two seasons, they might do that with the other books too! we are probably looking at season 4 at the earliest. which is a long time to wait, yes, but they shouldn't shove it in somewhere it doesn't belong just for fanservice.

i think they've said they don't know exactly how they will do tqotd (if they get enough seasons to get there) but what makes sense to me at least for the first half would be basically an anthology season where every episode is a mostly self-contained story from the pov of a different character each time. and then one of these (or 2! hell i'll take as many as i can get! fav chapter in the books!) would be devil's minion. way more logical than interrupting the loumand&claudia or even lestat hours to talk about unrelated events??? i really think the only 70s flashback in s2 will be to the first interview. maybe a little flash at something else to hint at potential memory loss and that's it, though even that isn't really necessary at this point, because it's not about that right now.

This might be weird to say but I'm gonna need for Maharet and Mekare to go through the ~gingercide~ in the show... Cause if they're white while Akasha is POC (I'm assuming black after Aaliyah) the discourse is gonna go on an INSANE direction...
