Work In Progress Wednesday
So technically this is part of a bigger story featuring Hangman (shocking I know- he's the only one I ever write lol) as Maverick's son who is pushed aside in Pete's efforts to win back the love of Rooster... BUT I thought this was a fun little emotional moment between Bradley and Mav. Enjoy
"Bradley wait please" Maverick begged, and Jake watched as his father finally managed to catch the other man by the arm. "Please, I just- I just wanted to say a few things before you go."
Rooster narrowed his eyes but complied, though he did shake his arm out of his Captain's grip, "what is it?"
Maverick struggled to compose himself for a moment, clearly surprised to be given this opportunity, no doubt expecting his usually aggressively angry godson to have shoved him away. "I'm sorry to do this now, I know this isn't the best moment but I can't- I need to get this out" he explained thinking about how uncertain a future chance might be. "I need you to know that everything I did, it wasn't because I didn't believe in you."
The taller man paused for a moment, eyes assessing before he cleared his throat, "Then why-" Bradley pressed, "-did you do it? Why did you pull my papers?"
"I had to" Captain Mitchell shook his head, "You- it wasn't that the Navy was too good for you, but you were- you are- too good for the Navy. You don’t deserve to be used as their pawn, you’re worth so much more than that, your life is worth so much more than that. I know I shouldn’t have pulled your papers, I know I set you back those years but you are still here, the top of the top, the best of the best, because of your talent and your skills. Even with me trying to hold you back” he inhaled emotionally, “you are still where you belong, in the sky, like your father.”
"Mav" the brunette swallowed roughly, "this doesn't fix-"
"I know it doesn't" Pete cut in, "and I understand that. I just need you to hear it now. I believe in you, I always have, I always will. I love you Bradley and I need you to come home okay? Don't think up there. Don't hesitate. Don't doubt yourself. You belong out there. Don't think, just do."
Bradley’s face crumbled for a minute, emotion clear on his face. He offered the man in front of him a nod before he sniffled back a sob, “I- I just wanted to make you proud-"
"And you have" his godfather confirmed gently, "I am so proud of you Baby Goose, I always have been. And these past few weeks, getting to fly with you, it's been the greatest honor of my life."
"Flying with you has always been my dream-"
Maverick gave a watery smile, "mine too kid."
So what do we think?

I love your interpretation of Mav and Ice. I love how realistic they both feel because well, they're white men in the Navy starting in the 80s. What it does make me wonder about Carole? I know you don't write for her but your analysis of Top Gun itself just made me wonder about her. Like whether she was a traditional military wife or just kinda met Goose and fell into it. Did Goose's death and the period between his death and her's change anything? Did it make her more skeptical of the military because of the cause of Goose's death or was her asking Mav to not let Bradley fly purely out of her hurt for Goose's death and not a moral/political thing also. PS. I read your Slider fic and absolutely adored it
well… i think any attempt to flesh out Carole’s character is gonna be completely based on conjecture, because we’re not given more than “slightly naive Christian woman who doesn’t always say exactly the right thing.”
But I think it’s helpful to remember where she fits into the narrative at large, and why: Carole Bradshaw is the villain of the Top Gun franchise. Top Gun is her villain origin story.
The rhetorical purpose of the top gun franchise is: to make money, obv, AND to get people to join the navy. (to what extent it’s successful at achieving that latter goal is the topic of a different post… im certainly not the first to say it’s pretty easy to find an antimilitary reading of TG.) but if top gun is aiming to portray the navy as someplace you want to be, and someplace where you have to earn a spot to be (as I keep repeating over the last couple weeks, it’s all about honor), then Carole Bradshaw becomes the villain of the recruiting story of Top Gun: Maverick, because she (momentarily) prevented her son from joining the navy with the honor he thought he deserved, and she is to blame for the emotional through line of the entire movie. Thank God! we don’t have to blame maverick for fucking up and preventing Bradley from achieving his Dream Of Working As A US Military Contractor! we can blame his dead mom instead, so that maverick is still a good guy whom we, a moderately-conservative pro-navy target audience (🤑), can still root for & pay money to see.
so yeah narratively speaking she’s just a scapegoat. She has no agency in the story whatsoever, she’s only an object to receive blame. any backstory/reasoning/character we invent for her doesn’t really matter. It doesn’t really matter WHY she does it—whether she hates the military or not, narratively speaking we have to blame her just the same either way—it just matters that she does it. and then she has to immediately die so she can’t explain herself and maverick has to self-sacrificially take the blame. Because otherwise the plot of TGM wouldn’t happen, which would not achieve the rhetorical goals of making a bunch of money and getting kids to sign up for the navy.

Villainous Theory: Dr Flug and GoldHeart Foreshadowing and Lore in Codigo Guajolote (Code Turkey)
Initially I thought that Flug's favorite show: Codigo Guajaloto was the Villainous version of Top Gun or Top Gun Maverick. But rewatching Episode 4 again, there might have been some possible foreshadowing and lore.
The gist I got from the show was that is basically about Micias, call-sign Turkey, (the guy covering his head with a turkey-mask) who was a loose cannon pilot, his girlfriend died, everyone blames him. He lost his arm and his plane crashed and there was a war which turns out to be a dream.
But looking back I think that Micias might symbolise Flug. I mean he is a loose canon (which can be used to describe to a villain) pilot, covering his face with a headgear. Sounds kinda familiar right?
So I think most of the foreshadowing and lore will point to Flug’s past, current events, and possible future prediction of what will happen in the show.
Micias has no arm (V.I.R.U.S Spoilers)
In the same episode, it is shown that Airlock's right arm is robotic or it could refer to her detaching her robotic arm, thinking that being lost in space is better than to be in the same room as these Crazy Villains.
He crashes his plane (V.I.R.U.S Spoilers)
This is a reference to Flug crashing his plane in Black Hat Mannor.
She’s gone because of you!
This might imply that Flug blames himself or thinks this that it was somehow his fault that Cecelia left Black Hat Academy.
(This was before he found out the truth that she stole his Thesis to become a hero.)
Or the grey-haired guy might represent GoldHeart facing off Flug in a future confrontation after Flug put a wrench in his plans by indirectly sending Miss Heed to jail. (Will explain more in below posts.)
Everyone blames Micias for the death of his girlfriend (V.I.R.U.S Spoilers)
This is a possible foreshadowing for Episode 6, that the media indirectly blames Flug for Miss Heed's arrest.
You’re a stray bullet, Turkey!
An angry GoldHeart confronting Flug with Villainy. Giving his hero speeches.
You can see in the "She's gone because of you" post shows the turkey-guy looking bored of the grey-haired guy. So that's what Flug's reaction probably is. 😂
The 10-year war turned out to be a dream (V.I.R.U.S Spoilers)
This one is a bit complicated.
Initially, I thought the 10-year war part was about Flug’s 10 years working in Black Hat Organization fighting against Heroes.
According to Flug's Research Book and Dem's Diary Flug mentioned that he can't remember when exactly he worked for Black Hat and estimated his working time as around 8 - 10 years. (Source)
[Google Translation of Source]
I have been working as the chief scientist of the Black Hat Organization for approximately 8-10 years.
But…
This does not explain the dream part. So I came up with another theory.
My theory for the 10-year war is that before Flug joined Black Hat Organisation, Flug had a Arch-Nemesis conflict with GoldHeart that has been going on for 10-years. (Flug might be a few years older than the show actually says because of the cryo-bed freezing his age, will explain this in another theory)
The dream I believe means that Flug and GoldHeart's relationship is different from the Flug's dream in Episode 1.
Let us look back at Flug's Interpretation of GoldHeart in his Dream vs Real GoldHeart:
The Dream!GoldHeart seems to taunt Flug calling him a failure and saying he will never succeed no matter what he tries.
When I first saw that, I imagined that the Real GoldHeart would be extremely angry and boiling with rage that Flug, his Arch-Nemesis succeeded in putting a wrench in his plans to end Villainy forever, in Episode 6.
But, the Real GoldHeart just disappointed and frustrated. Like, he's annoyed but it's not that big of a deal…
From Flug's Research Book and Dem's Diary it was mentioned that Flug believes that hatred between the 2 parties is mutual. So in Flug's dream GoldHeart appears to hate Flug, because from Flug’s POV, he believes that GoldHeart truly hates him. But that might not be the case as shown in Real GoldHeart’s POV.
There also some other examples that their relationship is much more complicated as shoewn in Flug’s POV, like Flug’s reaction to seeing GoldHeart on television or when Flug reminiscent about their past as he goes through his stuff, Flug’s reaction of possibly facing off GoldHeart as shown in Episode 4 and Episode 6 respectively. (I might make another post about this, I ran out off space to add photos, haha)
So, I believe that their relationship is much more complicated and more layers that what appears in Flug's dream.
Villainous Show Headcanon
As mentioned earlier, I believe that the Turkey-Mask guy, Micias, represents Flug and grey-haired guy represents GoldHeart.
In the future, as Flug continues to interfere with GoldHeart's plan to end Villainy forever, GoldHeart will retaliate by coming up with a plan using the heroes in order to stop Flug.
My theory is that everytime Flug and the gang is hired by a client to do their Hero Extermination Service, GoldHeart will use strategic and tactical methods, involving the Heroes or whatever resources that he has, in order to capture Flug.
Flug in return will try to counter and predict GoldHeart's moves and retaliate with his own plan, and GoldHeart will do the same. And so on…
As shown in one scene in Codigo Guajolote, it's like similar to a game of chess...
