I was re-reading your Snippets on Ao3 and I got to "Acorn" (Ripped my heart out with that one, by the way) and have to ask. Is this:

Why Ava doesn't like to swim?

(For those who haven't read the fic or that chapter, this is where this line of text comes from, for context.)

"A child who lost everything sat on the doorstep of a house that is no longer there. Surrounded by the skeletal remains of the buildings and trees that had once been the lifeforce of her small remote village.

Warmth still glowed from the forest around her, even if there were no longer any flames. Those had died out hours earlier. Before the night had come to render the waterhole her Uncle had stashed her in even colder than before, but she didn’t care to climb out while the heat from the fires still touched her face.

Getting herself out had been difficult, normally the trees would have sent their roots to help her, but there were no trees left alive to help. She had known even then that she was the last of her village to survive, so there was no point in calling for help. "

But you're right! This is why she doesn't like water in general but especially hates swimming. Baths are better because at least they're warm and she knows she can get out whenever she wants to. But they're still not her FAVORITE thing in the world, she'll often get people to come and keep her company while she bathes so that she isn't alone with her flashbacks thoughts for too long.

Ava is the firstborn child of the rich Isogawa family in Sydney, Australia. Ever since she could remember, her parents had very high expectations of her. She was homeschooled, had a generally very strict upbringing and despite her very creative and dreamy nature, she was expected to become the heir of the business. She struggled with focusing on subjects like maths and economy, constantly being punished for zoning out or daydreaming, when such things were to be expected from a child.

Hoping to somehow sate her creative needs, when she was 6 years old, her parents signed her up for ballet classes. Ava hated every second of it, not only because it was incredibly boring to her, but also because she was forced to have a very strict diet, causing her to become dangerously thin. She was constantly tired, which made it even harder for her to concentrate on studying.

At the age of 12, however, she found a new passion: books, more specifically of the fantasy genre. Tolkien quickly became her favorite author, and as she got more and more consumed by the fantasy world, she grew enamored by the image of a strong, powerful warrior woman. Often she would stand in front of her mirror, studying her frail features. This wasn’t who she wanted to be. Becoming a businesswoman was not her calling, and she would rather die than get stuck in an office staring at a computer five days a week.

As her other 2 siblings were born, she could feel her parents’ attention on her slipping. She began to have more freedom, more space to get away with things. She used that to her advantage and started skipping ballet classes. With the help of her closest friend, her maid, she instead started going to the gym, took up martial arts and gained some weight. She also got a secret job, and finally by the age of 22 she had enough money to escape her family.

She moved to a small, friendly town named Morioh Cho in Japan. Thanks to half of her family speaking Japanese, there was no language barrier, and she could fit right in. The small town was perfect for her - somewhat quiet, or at least on the surface. One day while she was people watching at a park, gathering some material for her possible future book, she was shot with an arrow. Yet to her surprise, she didn’t die. Quite the opposite, something within her awoke and she soon stood face to face with a strange being, her Stand. A blonde man named Nijimura Keicho and his younger brother Okuyasu approached her and tried to persuade her into using her Stand on their sick father, but she refused to and even won a fight with them, quickly learning how to use her new powers.

She soon got to meet Kishibe Rohan, another creative soul like hers, though he was very different and very unbearable. He used Heaven’s Door on her and she took away his sight in return, making him swear not to do that again. Their relationship is somewhat neutral now, though she doesn’t really hang out with him unless she has to. Thanks to Rohan she met Josuke and Jotaro, who were much more likeable, and she even grew some sort of admiration for Jotaro.

Currently she works at a bakery.

Well, since music is super important to slaeyrs, & they’re a big part of the story, probably a musical!

Alinora would have old accounts she deleted or abandoned long ago, before eventually conceding to a Twitter account.

Elaena would have Instagram, Twitter, and Tumblr and be highly active on all three, but in different ways.

Lyr would have an Instagram, Snapchat, and a Twitter.

Ava would have a really nice blog, an Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter.

Talitha would have a blog where she hosted her own articles and research for free, as well as posted answers & such to people’s questions. She would have two Twitter accounts--one for her pseudonym and the other for her personal life; as well as an Instagram and Snapchat. And probably Tumblr.

Aishlynn would have a Twitter and an Instagram account.

9. Why do you write the genre you write?

I grew up with fantasy. Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, the Hobbit, Disney... Also had a lot of Sci-Fi in there too (Star Wars, mainly, but my parents both enjoyed Star Trek as well). So that’s part of it. But when I was about, I dunno, 8 or 9? I saw the Eragon movie, & the only part of it I really remembered was the baby dragon. I wanted to read the book something awful, & then I did, & I found out the author was pretty young when he wrote it & that made me realize that I could be an author one day & I wanted to write about dragons & cool adventures &...

Thus fantasy is my main genre.

In the chap3 of No Other Choice, it begins with Thranduil and Ferdan arguing. Is there a specific reason why they are arguing, and so constantly as a matter of fact? Thank youu :))

There is a specific reason they were fighting ALL OF THE TIME! They were fighting about at what age they should let the Legolas, Farlen, Avaleina, and to a certain extent Eloissa and Tern join Greenwoods Military. They had so many arguments since the elfling's coming of Age Ceremonies were all fast approaching and everybody knew the second they were considered an 'adult' by elvish standards that they'd all want to join the fight for their people and their home.

Thranduil would let them join younger than Ferdan wanted because Thranduil thinks that if they DONT let them join (close) to when they want to, they will channel their energy, skills, and determination to do something to help into less constructive channels. He thinks that if they let them join the military, they'll be able to keep them in the lower ranks and close to home until they're older.

Ferdan's almost positive that if they let the elflings join when they want to, it wont matter WHAT Thranduil and Ferdan want, they wont give them a choice to do anything but move them higher up in the ranks. Maybe at first they could stop it, but not for long. They're too good. They could have already graduated from their training years ago but weren't simply due to their ages. He wants them to join later, when they're older, so that they can be 'kids' longer. He thinks the second they join the miliary they'll be gone. That they'll do everything and anything possible so be anything and everything that the world needs them to be, with little (if any) thought about what they need from themselves.

In hindsight, Ferdan was right.

Is the new Queen Ava??? Did Thranduil appoint her to take the throne when he left?? I HAVE TO KNOW

Hahah yes, the new Queen of Greenwood is Avaleina but the only thing that Thranduil had to do with it was leave and give the remaining Silvan elves a reason to elect a new monarch.

Hi Hi Hi Hi!! I was just wondering who has more magic, Legolas or Ava?

Hello! Hello! Hello!

(for the purpose of this answer, I’m using the word “magic” to mean the ability to affect somebody's external environment with an unseen internal force)

The answer to this question depends on what you mean by “more” magic.

Because of how powerful (magically and otherwise) Thranduil and Oropher were, Legolas TECHNICALLY has more inherent magic he gained through genetics. He gets a lot more ‘passive’ benefits of his magic, including feeling a lot more intimidating to those who can sense one’s inner powers & finding it slightly easier to resist the effects of and recover from dark magic. However, for various reasons he doesn't have nearly as much direct and purposeful control over it as Avaleina does.

When Avaleina was still younger and the war had not become an all consuming aspect of most of their lives, through great determination and even greater amounts of work she managed to become one of the highest trained dancers in all of Greenwood. Due to this I headcanon that she was able to learn how to channel her magical abilities through dance, kind of like how Luthien was able to put Melkor to sleep by dancing but significantly less dramatic than that.

Initially Ava was only able to channel her magic through dance, but as she grew more comfortable / accustomed to the process of controlling her magic and her skills in combat increased, she was able to figure out how to channel magic during battle as well. After she had gotten a good grasp on using her magic in battle, she was able to control her magic through most forms of fluid movements. Could be walking, skipping, dancing, tapping, writing, doesn't matter. It's why Avaleina has always been one of the best scouts and is capable of sneaking up on most elves; because she’s able magically make herself quieter and harder to see/detect.

Then, after already having the basic ability of consciously and successfully using/channeling her magic it was much easier for Ava to pick up on or be directly taught other elves' own magical tips and tricks.

It’s extremely important to her to be knowledgeable about as many of the traditional cultural practices and traditions of the Silvans that she possibly can. The older or more obscure the practice the more important it is to her to learn it, master it, and continue to practice it in order to preserve it then share it with others. A good portion of these practices involve magic of some kind, such as the Moving Tattoo’s she’s learned to do.

To summarize: Legolas is theoretically quite a bit stronger than Avaleina in terms of the amount of actual power they possess and could use to do magic, but magic is a very passive thing for him. His body knows what to do when to do it, and he fully trusts it to do its thing without him needing to be a knowledgeable participant in it. To be honest, most of the time he genuinely doesn't know when he’s done something ‘magical.’

But, Ava’s the one who knows and actively practices dozens of different ways of consciously ‘doing magic.’ It's why Legolas is known to (on occasion) burst out laughing if somebody insinuates that he’s the scarier one out of the duo.

Ava and eowyn’s friendship is very important to me, the only thing holding me together tbh. Do you have any specific headcanons about how they met and became friends?

I’m not sure how many of you are aware of this aspect of my personal headcanons, but I believe that Legolas and Eowyn would have become really good friends basically from the moment what was left of the Fellowship got to Rohan. One of the main reasons I think this would happen is because Legolas is from a Kingdom that allows any member of the realm (regardless of gender) to join their military as long as they prove their skill. So when Eowyn figured out that Legolas was EQUALLY confused about her not being able to serve, even though she was more than capable of doing so, it was the literal definition of refreshing.

When Eowyn pressed him for even the slightest details about why he agreed with her so wholeheartedly, the first two people Legolas brought up were Avaleina and Eloissa. Without revealing him as the Prince of Greenwood the Great, Legolas told her about how Eloissa had served tirelessly as the Prince’s Second In Command and nearly all patrols since he had been put in charge of his own patrols.

Next he told her about Avaleina, who had against all odds and expectations had climbed both political and military ladders with such raw determination that she was the only other member of the Greenwood Kingdom who could travel as a dignitary with equal power to the King aside from the Prince himself.

Legolas told her about how both Elleths parted crowds like a boulder cut through a river without even a thought or a glance. He told her about how each of them commanded the battlefield and their people with such precision and accuracy that even the darkest powers of the world had begun to fear their names.

With every word that he spoke, Eowyn became more and more eager to know and see every inch of this wonderful world.

On Legolas’s behalf, he had like one single interaction with Eowyn and was like: “Oh yeah, this human… this human I like. This is the one.” And Aragorn just sort of pats her on the shoulder and is like, “If any of us survive this war, you’re going to have one HELL of an adventure in store for you.”

And Eowyns like, “What how do you know that?”

And Aragorn says, “Just trust me on this one. No mortal can be chosen by an elf and hope to live a normal life. Just wait. You’ll see.”

Then the second interaction between Legolas and Eowyn he was like: “Yo Aragorn, wait until this war is over and I introduce her to Avaleina.”

When it comes to the two of them actually meeting….

I think that it would have happened when Thranduil came to Gondor for Arwen and Aragorn large wedding celebration, since Avaleina would have traveled as part of the Kings Escort. Because if they had not let her do so, she would have traveled the distance by herself and showed up anyways.

I think that Eowyn would have been drawn to Avaleina even before they were formally introduced after just one glimpse of her walking into the courtyard where Aragorn waited. She never would have seen a women at the head of ‘war party’ before, especially not one that was clearly there due to rank and ability rather than born or married power.

I think that Ava would seek Eowyn out (probably with Aragorns help) and walked up to her and was like, “I heard that you snuck onto a battlefield in disguise as a man because the wouldn’t let you fight and ended up being the one who kill the Witch King.”

And Eowyn's like “.....y-yes,” while trying not to stare at any of Avalein’s obvious scars even though it seems everywhere she looks there's another one even worse than the last.

And Ava’s like, “That's so great, I think that’s the coolest thing any mortal has done next to Beorn intercepting the Silmaril after it had been stolen from Doriath.”

After the two of them are introduced to one another formally, Eowyns like "HEY WAIT A SECOND-"

Then the most BEAUTIFUL of friendships is born.

Since Legolas spends so much time with Gimli exploring Middle Earth and just generally making the most of Gimli’s ‘limited’ mortal life, I think that Ava and Eowyn would spend a ridiculous amount of time together since both of them would live in Ilithien after Legolas and Faramir officially settled it. (Their time together definitely including their own fair bit of exploring as the pleased, occiasly joining Gimli and Legolas and their adventures or purposeful planning to meet up with them part way through.)

I think that they would each teach eachother one major thing through their friendship:

Eowyn taught Avaleina the power of letting go of past situations and their associated emotions that you really truly could not have done any different or better no matter how much you wish you could have.

Avaleina taught Eowyn that you can be both powerful and feminie, that the two things can co-exist within the same person without contradicting one another.

Similarly to how Legolas refuses to leave Middle Earth until Aragorn has passed to the halls, Avaleina won’t leave until long after Eowyn has joined her ancestors beneath the grass and flower covered tombs.

In my universe Avaleina is basically the very very very very VERY last of the elves who plan to sail west before Mandos comes to collect them and take them there. After Legolas sails west, she returns to live in Eryn Lasgalen with Thranduil and Ferdan and the rest of her people, basically just helping everybody get things organized to eventually leave Arda too.

Once everything is ready, Thranduil, Ferdan, and Galion sail west with the bulk of their people along with Celeborn and his people. Avaleina stays behind to rule Greenwood for an extended but undetermined amount of time to give those struggling with the decision more time to say goodbye to their lives in Aman.

She told them that she would follow in around a decade (probably.) But that is not the case.

Meanwhile, Legolas is left waiting for her on the shores of the Blessed Lands.

When he sailed away, in his mind, the worst outcome was that he and Ava would be separated from one another for perhaps a century. Maybe even a century and a half. But that is not the case.

There are many that try to gently persuade him, as the bump into him on his daily morning strolls to the beach, that “I don't not think she will come to these shores by boat..”

To which he always cheerfully corrects, “Yes, she will. Give her time.”

Like a different, worse kind of sea longing his mind is constantly wondering what Ava is doing, if she's okay, if there’s enough people helping her. He wonders what the world she’s living in is like, and if it is being kind to her.

Eventually, a few clusters of ships begin to arrive, but she is never on any of those boats. But stories of her are, paintings, records, news. “The Queen of Eryn Lasgalen was alive and well when we left.” The arriving elves would tell him.

“There is no creature left on Aman with enough power to contest her.” Another would often quickly add.

Legolas could not help but weep the moment a trembling hand reached out and touched one, as his body recognized the varying aspects of her magic, soul, and heart that the natural components of the crown had absorbed from its time upon her head.

The Greenwood Royal family buried each and every one of the crowns themselves, and called that spot of land “The Queen’s Grove.”

It became the place that Legolas would spend every evening in, wandering through the growing branches telling his wife whom he loved and missed so dearly all of the ridiculous things that popped into his mind.

It was not near the same as having her there with him, but at least the cold ach in his chest did not grow. On the days he felt particularly loney, he would sleep among the branches of the tree’s, or try to practice some of her favorite dances beneath their leaves.

Legolas knew the minute her feet had touched the shore of Valinor, because the tree’s within the grove that had grown nothing but leaves up until the point, all spontaneously bloomed with huge yellow flowers.

And finally Legolas knew that the Queen of Eryn Lasgalen was home.

Ferdan spends all of his spare time fixing Avaleinas hair. It drives him nuts. The curls and waves in her hair make it nearly impossible for them to stay inside any sort of braid or ponytail. 0.08 seconds after he was done, at least 8 hairs at the front had spring free.

No matter how much time Ferdan spent doing her hair for her in the morning when she was young, ine like, ten minutes it looked like she had never seen a brush in her life was raised feral in the wood by badgers.

He does something to her hair almost every single time he sees her, even if its just tucking some behind her ear, unless she wears it down. Which happens very rarely, usually only after she has washed it or during celebrations. He could probably have built an entire human village with the mound of twigs, bark, vines, and other natural things he had wrestled from the depths of her hair.

Everybody in greenwood is soooooooooooooooo used to it they don’t notice anymore if Ferdan randomly starts to re-braid and fix her hair in the middle of the day or dinner.

The first time that Elonrd saw Ferdan spend, like, 4 hours on her hair for a yule celebration INCLUDING painstakingly braiding 300 individual flowers in her hair, he died for just like 2 seconds.

This is actually such a common occurrence now that it appears in many many paintings/drawings/carvings and just general cultural knowledge.

Similar to the Silvan makes in jokes about Thranduil never knowing when his begetting day is, they make jokes that "they'll clean the stables the day Ferdan isn't insulted by Ava's hair."
