So Darius is an interesting guy.
He has a history with the previous golden guards and may even know the true nature of Hunter’s existence as a Grimwalker. That baggage is likely why he was so cold with Hunter previously. He knows that Belos sees Hunter as a tool, so the fact that Hunter himself has always acted like one is disappointing, especially in the face of Darius’s memories of Hunter’s predecessors.
The last Golden Guard was a mentor to Darius, someone he could look up to. Hunter’s only ever seen himself as a servant of the Emperor. But now that Hunter is starting to get his own sense of self, Darius actually sees someone who he can be a mentor to. It brings his relationship to the previous Golden Guard full circle, and gives Hunter a much needed positive role model.

Darius’s Penstagram feed is cracking me up.
Raine is making lame jokes about their violins. Lily can’t take a picture without getting her thumb in the frame. And Alador is embarrassing his kids on social media (while also showing off a new miniboss that Luz is absolutely gonna have to fight, but let’s not worry about that now).
You can also see that Eda is still trying to get through to Raine on social media, which is kinda funny to think about. We have this big dramatic confrontation between them, and meanwhile Eda is still trying to call them on her cellphone offscreen, just like anybody else would.
