jack of all trades ;
tsukishima kei x reader
reader is tsukki’s gf and wants to find something he’s not naturally talented at <3
Your boyfriend was annoying.
He wasn’t annoying in the way that he spoke, or annoying in the way that he treated those around him— he was annoyingly above average. He was a jack of all trades, and it was infuriating.
You originally thought that he had a natural gift for volleyball. He never seemed to devote much time to the sport, but he was a natural on the court, only getting better with practice and passion. It was only when you began going on dates that you started to realize that he was able to do anything he tried with ease.
On your trip to an arcade, he watched you struggle to complete a game, only to land third place on the leaderboard when he attempted it himself. When you dragged him to a pottery class, the bowl that you had fashioned for yourself turned out lopsided with many kinks, while the mug that he made was simple but beautiful and now held a permanent place in your kitchen cabinet.
When you first caught on, you started to treat it like a game– there had to be something that he couldn’t do. He thought you were making something out of nothing; he had no significant interest in most things that you made him try, so to make you happy he would downplay his abilities. You could tell when he was doing it though, and continued to watch for the moment when you finally found something he really couldn’t do.
You began to curate the most random itineraries for outings that you possibly could, just for the chance of catching him off guard. Bowling, painting, basketball, beginners guitar– with a little practise he could grasp anything you threw at him.
When the day finally came where you discovered his weakness, you never expected his kryptonite would be something so… mundane.
Ice skating.
You were nearing the point of giving up on the experiment, dragging him to go ice skating on a completely unrelated endeavour. After the holiday season the air was cold, perfect for ice skating, and you just wanted a day to spend with your boyfriend drinking hot drinks and visiting the local rink just like you did as a child. You didn’t expect for Tsukishima Kei, who was above-average at everything he tried, to be the worst ice skater you had witnessed in your life.
You had grown up skating casually, taking lessons as a child and visiting the outdoor rink with your friends from time to time. Subconsciously, you assumed he had done the same, or at least would figure it out quickly as he did with all other things. When he first stumbled with his transfer onto the ice, gripping your arm for balance, you brushed it off as the initial beginner hurdle he needed to get over, thinking he would be smooth sailing within half an hour. When he fell for the first time, you helped him up with a laugh, helping him brush the snow off of his coat as you gave him pointers on how to focus his centre of gravity. He held your hand as he made small kicks across the ice, and you continued to think nothing of it.
Only an hour in, did you begin to realize that he was not improving. The second he let go of you for support, he would collapse onto the ice, and while you held onto him, he was easily the slowest one on the rink.
“Kei, honey.” you paused, trying to stifle the laughs and taunts that were about to escape you.
He turned his head to look at you, slowing to a stop, seemingly as he couldn’t do both at the same time.
You continued your thought, a smile creeping onto your face. “You do realize that there are two year olds passing us right now, right?”
Surely enough, as you said it, a toddler stumbled past the two of you. Not very gracefully and sliding across the ice on his stomach shortly after, but there was no doubt that the child out-paced you both. You could see Tsukki’s cheeks turning slightly red as he let out a small laugh himself.
“This is harder than I expected,” he commented, arm still linked with yours as he stepped out with his right foot.
You tried to give him more pointers to seem supportive, but inside you felt smug– there was finally something that he wasn’t good at and this was your moment to gloat. “Rather than just stepping forward, kick your foot back like you’re pushing yourself forward. Like this.” You let go of his arm to try and demonstrate the different approach, kicking off with one foot as you instructed. When you turned back to join the tall boy again, he had somehow already found himself sprawled across the ice, his face void of any visible emotion.
You skated back towards him, taking a moment to look down at him with a smile very clearly plastered across your face. Holding your hand out to offer him help standing up again, you couldn’t help the string of smug comments that came out as you heaved him up.
“I could get you one of those skating aids that they give little kids. Although, you might be a bit too tall for one… I can stack two on top of each other, that will be more your speed– your height. Your speed is far less than 1 kilometre per hour.” You giggled, knowing that you were being slightly unfair. He remained composed every time he bested you at some task, but you let the thought go. This was your moment for mockery.
As he finally held his balance, you skated a circle around him.
“Oh glorious day– I can say that I’ve lived to see the day where THE jack of all trades, Kei Tsukishima has been bested by an activity. Ice skating of all things too.”
“Unlike you, I never saw a need to aimlessly glide around in circles on the ice as a child.”
You looked up at him, his mocking glare leading you to respond with nothing but a “Tsk.”
“Okay, if I can’t get far skating like this, why don’t you show me how real skaters do it,” he laughed, urging you forward to go off without him.
You gave him a puzzled look. “Why would I do that? We’re supposed to be skating together.”
He shook his head, gesturing for you to go ahead.
“At least one of us should make the most of the money we’re spending renting these skates. Maybe I’ll learn better from watching you skate without pretending you’re teaching a small child. I’ll be onto the Olympics after one watch.”
You gave him a small smile, before shrugging and going ahead at a much faster speed. You glided away with ease, skating two quick laps around the ice. The boy couldn’t help but smile as he watched your hair flow in the air behind you and the peace that seemed to overcome you as you skated.
When you met back up with him, he requested that you try some tricks you hadn’t attempted since childhood, loud laughs escaping him as it was your turn to go sprawling across the ice after trying to do a full spin. After half an hour of more skating, you decided to call it a day and return your skates.
As you finally decided to head off the ice and grab some hot chocolate with your boyfriend, you found yourself glowing with the excitement of your self-declared victory. You could finally stop trying to catch Tsukki off guard with a challenging date, and go back to simply enjoying your time together. You had to admit, you were a little sad that your trials had come to an end.
So preoccupied with the many emotions running through your head, you didn’t seem to notice that while you had your back turned when getting off the ice, the “bad at skating” Kei Tsukishima kicked off easily with his left foot, making his way to the edge of the skating rink right behind you, a loving smile on his face as he looked down at your celebrations. He loved more than anything to see you happy, so despite the aches he would be having the next day from falling repeatedly, he would consider this date a success.
He grabbed your hand as you walked from the rink towards the café, holding you grounded since you seemed like you were going to bounce away from pure happiness. While you remained overjoyed that skating was now number one on the list of skills that your boyfriend could not excel at in one go, Kei Tsukishima on the other hand, was adding a new skill to the list of trades he could accomplish with ease:
Acting.

merry-go-round of life ;
noya & tanaka & reader
reader goes to an amusement park with noya and tanaka only to realize that they bought tickets to the opening of the children’s wing instead of the adult rides. they spent too much money and have to stay anyways. platonic !
You had marked your calendar in joy - July 7th was the opening of the superhero theme park. The ads on the television had gotten everyone buzzing with anticipation; the largest rollercoasters in the country, a water park, drop towers, booths to win action figures… nothing was going to stop you from attending the opening day festivities.
You and your two best friends had barely been able to sleep in the week leading up to opening day, days being frantically checked off of your calendar and daily countdowns leading up to the event.
When July 7th rolled around, the three of you woke up at 6 am, scarfed down your breakfasts, and were each waiting at the train station ready to depart at 6:22 am. The entire train ride you sat with legs swinging, eagerly chatting about what you were most excited to see, bags clutched to your chests.
When the train finally arrived, you all but jumped out of your seats, walking as fast as you possibly could to the location. Your eyes shone with glee- the ads were not lying, the rollercoasters in front of you were the most magical sights you had laid your eyes on. The cars were fashioned to look like things from your favourite movies, drop towers meant to look like buildings from your favourite comics, and the massive archway in front of you had all your favourite characters painted on it.
As you arrived at the entrance gate to present your tickets, you slowly began to realize that you had made three mistakes.
Your first mistake was that though there were three of you, not one of you did nearly enough research. Noya and Tanaka had made the assumption that you would have at least double checked the website before buying your tickets, and you… you didn’t have an excuse. You probably should have read the website.
Your second mistake was that you were willing to pay anything to attend the opening of the new amusement park. Frankly, none of you should have spent that much on tickets considering the balances of your bank accounts, but it was the opening of the new superhero theme park, and the original superheroes themselves were scheduled to attend. None of you could miss that.
Your third mistake was not catching onto the sheer number of children as you arrived at the park. Eyes glued to the rollercoasters and attractions looming in front of you, excitedly chattering away, you simply didn’t notice that the majority of the crowd around you did not rise above your waist. They all appeared Noya-sized to you.
When the ticket collector scanned your tickets, and responded with only “to the right,” the three of you stood confused. The rollercoaster you had decided to ride first was to the left. To the right was… a merry-go-round.
“Is there a way to get to the stun coaster from that direction?” Noya asked the collector, sure that there was a mistake. You peered down at the tickets in your hands, finally reading what was printed on them in smaller letters.
General Admission – Super Children’s Wing.
The only thing you could register was shock as Noya and Tanaka tried to reason with the ticket collector.
“Guys… today is the opening of the Children’s Wing. I accidentally bought tickets to the kids park.” You said plainly, head facing up at the sky in sorrow.
“Yes, the general park opens two days from now, the children’s wing was opened early so not to overwhelm the children, now please move ahead if you intend to still visit.” the ticket collector calmly stated, gently ushering the three of you forward.
Noya and Tanaka stared ahead blankly as the three of you walked into the park, faces void of emotion apart from the dramatic tears beginning to pool in their eyes.
“How could this happen?”
“How could we be such fools?”
“Y/N, did you not check the tickets when you purchased them?”
“We spent so much money, there has to be something at the least that we can still do.”
The two boys walked slightly ahead of you, blubbering as they tried to cope with the new information presented to you. Children, all around you laughing with their parents, as if taunting you for your careless mistake. Your eyes scanned the rides around you, hoping for at least a few events that would make the trip worthwhile. As you walked, you paused in front of a map outlining the children’s wing of the park.
“We’re going to do them all,” you announced suddenly, halting the two boys in their tracks. Noya and Tanaka looked back at you, confused.
“Going to do all… of what?” Tanaka asked, genuinely not understanding what you were saying. Noya stood next to him, a matching look of puzzlement on his face as he peered at the map in front of you.
“All the rides, all the activities,” you stated matter-of-factly once again. “We spent so much money on those tickets, we are going to swallow our prides, embrace our inner children, and get on those kiddie coasters.”
You began to walk off to the first ride that you saw on the map, the two boys forced to follow behind you, whispering to each other about the likelihood that you had gone mad.
Your first endeavour was a small ride, fashioned to look like you were riding on the backs of various superheroes. It did nothing but rotate you around a central figure, allowing you to ‘fly up and down on your superhero,’ but you had set your mind to it, and dragged your two nervous-looking comrades into the line with you.
As you approached the front of the line, the worker paused before you boarded.
“You need a child with you to board this ride,” he stated, holding out a hand to stop you from moving forward.
You paused for a moment, not realizing that could be a potential requirement. You thought for a second before stepping to the side to reveal Noya, who had been blocked from the workers view by your height.
“I’m here with my little brother, he’s 9 years old,” you commented, placing your hand on Noya’s shoulder. You were met with a scowl from your ‘little brother,’ while Tanaka tried his hardest to stifle his laughs from behind the two of you.
The worker took a moment to consider, before moving his hand, allowing the two of you on the ride. As you boarded your superhero of choice, you looked back at the line to see Tanaka, a terrified look on his face, being let through with a child that he most definitely did not know.
You laughed the whole ride as Noya sulked, arms crossed as you brought the superhero up and down along the ride. When you were allowed off, the two of you met with Tanaka, who let out a sigh of relief as the child ran past the exit gate.
“What was that?” you questioned, as the spiker exasperatedly brought his hands to his head.
“The child’s parent gets motion sickness and was very grateful to send her child on the ride with me instead,” he shivered, before his mood flipped excitedly looking towards your next destination, “Little brother, why don’t we go try winning you a villain toy! It’s bigger than you!”
If it was possible, the libero’s scowl deepened, as he kicked the other boy in the shins before angrily chasing him towards the row of games slightly before you, curses filling the air as they ran.
“Watch your language, there are lots of actual children here!” you called, meeting them at the first game booth. The boys had chosen the stall with toss the ring on the bottle, multiple massive villain plushies lining the walls— various colours and almost taller than both you and Noya.
“I bet I can win first go,” Tanaka stated as he was handed his set of rings from the worker.
“I bet I can get it in less tries than you,” Noya countered, gripping his set of rings tightly, ready to toss his first.
As you were handed your box of rings last, you couldn’t help but laugh at the other two’s confident remarks. “If neither of you win, you have to go on the spinny ride with me.”
With two sulking high schoolers, you were sure enough soon in line to board the spinning ride.
“At least, losing this early means we don’t have to lug around a massive toy all day,” you reasoned, patting both of them on the back. That seemed to put them in a slightly better mood, as they did understand that carrying around a giant toy all day would be more tiring than fun.
You took on ride after ride— at least 3 kiddie coasters, bumper cars, some racing ride that Noya was very adamant on riding and yet became very sick from shortly after. You stopped for lunch, sharing pizza with the pepperonis in the shape of Tanaka’s favourite superhero, corn dogs designed to look like your favourite sidekick, and popsicles fashioned after Noya’s favourite villain. You adventured through immersive shows, and all three of you won a game near the end of your trip.
As your trio trudged towards the end of your tour of the park, churros, figurines and plushies in hand, your eyes were drawn to your final ride.
“We’ve come so far boys,” you began, to which Tanaka and Noya lethargically raised their churros as if in a mock toast, ready to leave.
“I have to make sure my sister doesn’t see me come home or I will never hear the end of this,” the taller boy commented.
“No one needs to know about this,” the other agreed.
“It’s time for our final ride.”
You looked up at the merry go round that greeted you when you first entered the park. The three of you nodding to each other, you set off for the line, eventually boarding and sitting atop your favourite sculptures on the ride.
As you spun around, carnival music playing as the kids near you babbled happily with their parents, the three of you couldn’t help but laugh at the ridiculousness of the day you had just experienced.
After a short silence, Tanaka spoke up.
“So we’re coming back for the opening of the actual park right?”
“We’d better,” Noya spoke, lightly banging his head on the pole attaching his ride to the merry-go-round, “We need to salvage our pride and actually ride the stun coaster, and the drop tower, and— Y/N you have to make sure you buy the right tickets this time.”
You looked over in shock. “This isn’t just on me, I managed to salvage our day and you two should have been responsible enough to buy your own tickets if you were so sure it opened today.” You scoffed, placing one hand on your hips, “Consider today a test run, in two days we’ll be back on the correct side of the park.”
The merry-go-round slowed to a stop, children being helped down by their parents. You and your two friends shared a look as you watched the others disembark.
“Do you want to go around again?”
“Just one more time.”
