A/N: To the previous anon, please forgive me! That must have been much more angst than you’d expected. Hopefully this one will have what was wanted.

The evening is bustling with energy as classes have finished and the students return to the dormitories.

Knight prattles off the tasks he’s accomplished today while we walk together. I fight off the exhaustion to listen, taking mental notes on this and that.

And then I see you.

In a corner beneath the staircase, the one with extraordinary powers is faced by a student. As we approach, Knight’s voice fades, and I hear instead the young man.

“You’re so amazing. I look for you everywhere I go.” He chuckles, rubbing a hand through his hair. “I want to go out with you. What do you say?”

My breath freezes in my chest. A creeping dread seizes me all at once.

Knight stops beside me. “O-oi! Toa?”

You stare back at the student with wide eyes, clearly surprised. A fetching blush tints your cheeks.

Something in me crystallises along with half ignored thoughts.

How did it come to this? How did such a bizarre person from another world steal into my every day, my mind, my formerly empty heart?

My feet are moving before I realize it.

Your eyes flick to me as I come to stand behind the student flirting with you.

“Prince Toa?” The Luxurean turns to me, his smirk wavering only slightly. “Ah, looking to share, are you? They’re a prize, aren’t they?”

My eyes can’t leave you. My feet are frozen to the spot.

“No. I can not share them. You… You are extraordinary. You are resilient and fascinating and vibrant. My mind is ever wondering after you. My eyes seek you out constantly. I want you near me; I want your strength buoying me up. I need you with me. I need to protect you.”

My breath runs out, and we all stand there in stunned silence.

At last, the Luxurean chuckles and raises his hands. “Well then. I suppose I’m back seat to that passion.” He steps back, but smiles at you once more. “But if you dislike the pressure of dating royalty, please, come find me.”

Much to my satisfaction, you hardly even respond. Your eyes are on me, and me alone.

So I step forward, claiming the space between us.

Swallowing hard, my mind catches up with my tongue.

“Prince Toa…” Your voice is small, nearly shaky. “Do you… do you really feel these things for me?”

I nod firmly, coming one step closer. “Yes. I would not toy with you. You are not a prize to me, but like the air I need to breathe. I want you with me not because it would be pleasant, but because I can no longer picture my life without you in it.”

A slight gasp escapes me. “Not that time with you is unpleasant. I did not mean-“

You, merciful angel that you are, stop me. Closing the remaining space between us, I let you take my hands. “I had no idea you felt like this. Do I really… do that much for you? Do I really make you happy?”

A smile naturally comes to my lips, and I squeeze your hands. “Yes. You do.”

By now, every visible inch of your skin is tinged with rouge. “I like you too, Toa. So much. You’re everything I never knew I needed.”

I bring one hand up to my lips to tenderly kiss your knuckle. “Then, will you step out with me? I am eager to spend time with you away from our obligations.”

No word has ever sent such a flood of emotions through me.

No smile has ever filled me with such indescribable joy.

“Yes.”

Sorry if this is long-

I’m a generally nice person who really cares about friends and always willing to listen to their problems and help comfort them in the best of my ability(I’ve actually been told I’m really good at knowing what to say lol). Although I have a few hiccups with my emotions(and having a little bit of difficulty controlling them), I try and keep myself calm and collected. I’m also guilty in talking really(REALLY) fast when I’m exited to the point people can’t understand me🧍🏼‍♀️

I’m energetic when I’m with friends I really like(which are few) and can be really clingy with them too, other people not so much haha. I’m also a good person to just chill with as well. I’m also pretty quiet when I’m overwhelmed and feel overstimulated by sounds and just being around people but after a while I’m back to normal, still pretty quiet though. I’m also a little sarcastic and rude when people are rude to me-

I enjoy scaring(and getting scared) people every now and then(it’s completely unplanned 90% of the time lol) and I’m really good at being quiet and walking/running quietly so it normally causes people to get a little spooked when I show up out of nowhere lmao

I can get pretty tired after a while(7+ hours) of hanging out with people but I try and keep my energy up and keep myself smiling

I enjoy sweets, fluffy things, and watching kids(kids love me as well), I also doing enjoy small pranks!

I get distracted semi easily but once I notice I get back to what I was working on even if it’s something really boring(no matter now much I want to fall asleep). It’s also slightly common for me to procrastinate but I end up finishing it in time at some point haha(even if I have to stay up late just to finish it)

I think that’s all of it, again, I’m sorry if this is long 😶

Oh, creator, this man has gone through a LOT, and you seem like the breath of fresh air he needs. The fact that you listen to your friends' problems and that you seem to know just what to say fascinates him to no end. He'd definitely talk to you to vent once he realizes he can let his fortress of a guard down. I feel like Toa would be a sucker and a half for people who are good with kids, and if he sees you interacting with kids, he would melt

Your energy may catch him off guard at first, but he does appreciate it, especially considering the fact that he lived in really uptight conditions. Whenever you do feel overwhelmed, he'll be sure to get you to a calmer place and then make sure you're okay. I feel like reading emotions and moods is also a skill he picked up while growing up. Your tendency to procrastinate may make him a bit iffy, but seeing that you still get the job done, he can overlook it.

Court of Darkness Fan Fiction - “Event” Story

Epilogue

Rating: Teen and Up

Main Characters: MC, Toa, Fenn

Event story description: Toa seems to be hiding something, but you have no idea what it could be! The next day in class, you hear a classmate talk about being cheated on by her paramour. You try to brush it off but then you realize that the behaviors she described seem awfully similar to how your own paramour has been behaving lately...No way, could Toa be...?!

Toa: Ahem.

Toa: I do not tolerate sleeping during lectures.

MC: Zzzz…

Toa: This is a place for learning, not slumber.

MC: Mmm...Robin...no...you can't...eat that...zzzz...

I sigh at her lack of response and roll up the papers in my hand to gently bop her on the head.

MC: Wah!!! What'd you do that for??

Toa: As I stated, I do not tolerate sleeping during lectures.

Toa: Now, let's continue our lesson on the political relationship between Avari and Invidia...

After class...

MC: Hey! That was mean earlier!

MC: Why’d you have to whack me in the head like that?

MC: You know I didn't get much sleep last night!

She's pouting.

(Really, how does she manage to be so cute at all times?)

Toa: Are you implying that I am the reason for your lack of sleep?

MC: You know you are!!

Toa: I believe it was you who decided to visit my chambers in the middle of the night, was it not?

MC: W-well yes, but!! It was important! And you're the one who kept me there so late!

Toa: I fail to see how I am at fault. You stayed of your own volition. I was not preventing you from leaving.

MC: But you weren’t being fair…!

Toa: How so?

MC: You know how weak I am to your k-...k-ki….

Her cheeks are now turning a lovely shade of pink.

Toa: Hm, my what now?

Her: Your k-ki...kisses...

Toa: Heh, I see.

The bell rings.

Her: Oh crap I was supposed to be meeting up with somebody right now!!!

I watch, amused, as she runs off and think back to the events of the previous night.

I hear a knock on the door and check the clock.

It's already 2AM.

(There's only one person who would think to come to my chambers this late at night.)

(...Well, perhaps two.)

(Fenn does tend to appear whenever he likes.)

Sighing, I go to check who my late night visitor is.

As expected, it's her.

I remind her of the current hour, but she insists that she has a question about my writing that must be answered immediately.

(What kind of question about a story could possibly warrant a 2AM visit to my chambers?)

(She’s not going to leave until she gets an answer, is she?)

Deciding to humor her, I invite her inside.

Toa: Now what is this so-very-urgent question that has required you to come to my chambers in the middle of the night to ask?

MC: Well, it's about this part here…

Toa: Hm? Which part?

She hands me some folded papers that I immediately recognize too well.

(...)

I had thought I destroyed those pages shortly after they came into existence, but it seems I was mistaken.

(At least I can prevent them from falling further into the wrong hands.)

I set the pages ablaze, much to her dismay.

(What else were you expecting I do with these?)

She opens her mouth to ask a question, but what she asks is not quite what I had expected.

MC: Those, um, things…on those pages you just burned…

Toa: Did I not just tell you to-

MC: Did you write them from, like…personal experience…?

(Personal experience? Is she trying to inquire about my romantic and sexual history?)

(If so, there’s not much to speak of.)

Prior to developing feelings for her, the idea of losing myself in the story of a well-written romance novel has always been far more appealing than losing myself in the arms of another.

Even if I were to have desired to do so, as the crown prince of Qelsum, participating in any type of promiscuous behavior has been strictly forbidden.

Nor have I been allowed to date freely, lest I be involved in a relationship scandal.

As such, outside of a few strategized outings with the daughters of noble families or businesses for political purposes, I’ve never pursued any sort of romantic affection or relationship from another.

She looks around the room awkwardly as she waits for me to answer.

(This seems like a wonderful opportunity to tease her.)

Toa: Why do you ask?

MC: Just...wondering…

Toa: Hmm, so if it is?

MC: Uh, that's great I guess!

Toa: Great?

MC: Err, not like a “that's so great! I'm happy for you!” way, but, you know!

(How adorable.)

Watching her stammer awkwardly in response, it appears I made the correct decision in messing with her.

I am not certain what I had expected she would say next, but her next question also catches me slightly off guard.

(My own personal fantasies…?)

(Is that where her mind went?)

(It's not as if I had never entertained the thought or imagined her and I in...certain situations…)

(However, that particular piece of writing was not a on product of that. I was just imitating content from the books I've read in the past.)

(That said, given the shade of red her cheeks have become, I believe I shall continue to tease her for a bit longer.)

(Yes, I had never intended for her to discover those pages, though I suppose I cannot complain since the outcome it produced was rather entertaining.)

(Truthfully, I had never intended for her to find any of the manuscript.)

(It seems that I am never fully able to hide anything from her.)

(She managed to pick up on slight changes in my behavior yesterday and during our date, somehow.)

(I don't think my thoughts or actions were particularly out of the ordinary at the time.)

(Ah, this is the same candy mentioned in the book, isn’t it?)

(The favorite candy of the main female love interest.)

(This would make for a cute confession, I’d imagine.)

I picture a scene where the female love interest is given a box of candy, and inside the box a love letter expressing all the feelings that the main character was unable to tell her in person.

(Yes, I quite like that idea.)

(Perhaps I should do that too.)

Of course, since we have the status of paramours, I have already expressed my feelings.

(Even so, it would be a cute gesture.)

I picture her smiling as she reads the love letter, and feel myself beginning to grin as well.

(Hmm, this candy, though…)

(I believe we’ve sampled this during one of our tea times before, but I'm pretty sure she was not fond of it.)

(I'll need to find another candy to give her later.)

I look up to see her in another aisle looking at a bag of candy.

(She’s so cute…)

(Surely there must be some rule in the magical realm preventing someone from looking so lovely while simply looking at candy?)

(Ah, the confession scene.)

Suddenly remembering what I was doing, I look at the box of candy in my hands again.

(I vaguely do remember the flavors, but for accuracy's sake…)

I decide to buy another box to ensure I describe everything as accurately as possible in my writing.

(This seems like a nice setting for the main characters to go on a first date.)

I look across the table at my smiling paramour who’s currently excitedly taking in all the surroundings.

We make eye contact and I feel my heartbeat quicken.

(Why are you looking at me like that…?)

(Actual magical power and ability aside, the power she has over my heart and the ability to affect my emotions the way she does is tremendous.)

(There is nobody else like her, in this realm or the human realm; she is by far the most special person alive. This, I am certain of.)

(Hmm, the female love interest is not nearly as excitable as my own paramour…)

(Even so...I think the new couple would still enjoy this as a first date spot.)

I make a mental note and then focus my attention on enjoying my time trying new desserts with my beloved paramour.

My impatience to begin reading slowly grows throughout our date, leading me to keep a close eye on my pocket watch to ensure there is enough time to read before bed.

(I do not wish to cut our date short…)

(But I do have a lesson plan to review before I can begin reading, and if I stay up too late reading Knight will likely tell me off again.)

I glance over next to me and see her smiling brightly, the sun setting behind her seeming dim in comparison.

(...just a little longer should be okay.)

(I can deal with Knight scolding me if it means a few more moments with her.)

That night, I ended up reading late into the night, and going through my entire stash of caramels within the first half of the book, much to Knight’s displeasure.

Due to running out of caramels, the lack of sleep, and the book not ending the way I had expected, I find myself in a rather irritated mood the next morning.

(I can't believe the author! Do they hate their readers?)

(Are they getting some sort of sick pleasure out of dragging this out at a torturous pace?)

(Why will the characters not just tell each other of their feelings already???)

I grumble to myself as I walk down the hallways.

(But why does the author have to write so well?)

(This would be so much easier if they were not so talented at making their reader invested in the story…)

(It’s almost as if the author somehow knows exactly how to provoke me on a personal level.)

(That’s not possible, of course. But still nonetheless...)

(Knight is busy, so I have to pick up a package later today, and some more caramels…)

(But I should still have a little while before then...maybe if I write those scenes I planned out yesterday it will make me feel better.)

I decide to return to my room in order to help soothe my irritation by distracting myself with self indulgent writing when I get stopped by somebody.

(Can you not see that I am not in the mood for conversation?)

(I am clearly headed somewhere! Do not inter-)

(Oh, it's her.)

Being able to see her face improves my mood somewhat--until she asks what I thought of the novel, and then the rage I felt towards the novel comes rushing back.

Despite my ranting, she seemed to have enjoyed our conversation nonetheless, since she invites me to lunch, completely forgetting that she has a lecture.

Reminding her of this, we decide to make plans for later that night before parting ways.

(This is fine. I'm not angry at the book at all.)

(Candy confessions. Cafe first dates. Tea time tonight. Positive thoughts.)

(Never did I think that she would take that behavior as reason to suspect unfaithfulness on my part.)

(Although we did agree to put the matter behind us, I cannot deny that it still stings slightly to think that she so easily doubted me.)

(Perhaps it stems from her own insecurities, rather than my actions.)

(But there is nothing I want more than to make her feel loved and secure in our relationship, to protect her smile.)

(I’m not sure what else there is I can do to reassure her, though…)

I ponder this as I walk to the S-rank lounge and find the woman in question speaking to Fenn while they appear to be reading something.

Fenn is peering over her shoulder as she holds what appears to be a manuscript.

(That’s a rather intimate position to be in…)

I feel myself getting mildly irritated but quickly suppress it.

(He’s probably helping her with study materials or something.)

(Then again, if this is Fenn we’re talking about, the likelihood is much higher that he’s up to something no good…)

Toa: What are you two doing?

MC: Ah! Toa!

She yelps in surprise and quickly tries to hide the manuscript behind her back.

Fenn, on the other hand, seems perfectly calm.

Fenn: Oh, hello Toa~!

Toa: What were you reading?

MC: Umm...nothing! Nothing at all!

(Why are you blushing so fiercely?)

Fenn: Curious, are you?

Fenn pulls what is likely a copy of the manuscript out of a bag and hands it to me.

Fenn: Here you are!

MC: Fenn, what are you doing??

I sigh in annoyance.

Toa: What stupidity are you dragging me into this time?

I look down to read whatever nonsense Fenn has handed me.

I quickly skim the page and--

(“I’m not made of glass, Avari, please…” whimpered Toa pleadingly, the blue haired man reaching out to-)

(WHAT?!?!)

(Avari and I are-)

(Absolutely not!!)

Despite being thoroughly disturbed and disgusted, for some reason I find myself unable to tear my eyes away and continue reading the page.

Certainly not my wisest decision of the day.

(Huh? Why do we suddenly have a bottle of chocolate syru-)

Toa: NOO!!

Fenn appears to be enjoying an absolutely marvelous time laughing at my distress, meanwhile I am questioning whether it’s possible to use one’s ancient magic on oneself.

MC: Do you think he got to the part with the choco-

Fenn: Oh he DEFINITELY got to the part with the chocolate syrup!

Fenn: Hahaha, this is the best!

I look at my paramour and it seems she’s struggling to keep herself from laughing.

(To think, I’ve been forced to picture such atrocities with my own imagination…What did I do to deserve this?)

Toa: Fenn, I have overlooked your flippant, promiscuous behavior on a daily basis, but this?

Toa: You have truly gone too far this time.

Toa: As a professor at this academy, to be distributing such obscene material??

Toa: You should be ashamed!!

Guy: Qelsum, why are you howling about so noisily?

(Could this get any worse?)

(Avari is the absolute last person I want to see right now.)

(I never particularly wish to see him, but especially not now.)

(Not with the horrifying and revolting images that have been freshly burnt into my mind.)

Fenn: Ah, hello Guy~ Wonderful timing~!

Fenn: Here, look!

Fenn pulls another copy of the accursed text out of his bag and hands it to Avari.

MC: Just how many copies of that do you have??

Guy: Tch. What is this useless drivel?

Looking entirely uninterested, Avari’s eyes lazily scan the page.

Guy: !!!

Before Fenn could even laugh at Avari’s reaction, the papers are immediately turned to ash.

Fenn: Hey! That was rather rude!

Fenn: Well, at least I have plenty more copies with me~

Avari follows Fenn’s line of sight to the bag containing the abominations that are being passed off as ‘stories’.

Guy: …

Avari attempts to destroy the bag by shooting fire at it, but nothing happens.

Fenn: Did you think I don't know you well enough to know what your reaction would be, Guy? I'm hurt!

Fenn feigns tears and Avari rolls his eyes in response.

Fenn: But it is quite rude to destroy other people’s things, you know!

Guy: Tch.

Roy: Hello everybody.

Fenn: Royyyy! Wonderful of you to join us~

Fenn: I have the perfect story for you as well!

Fenn hands Roy a manuscript, presumably something about Avari and the Invidian prince himself.

The shock is evident on Invidia’s face at first, but soon his expression changes into one resembling that of an awkward smile.

Roy: While I am not suggesting that I approve of this sort of material…

Roy: It would be unfair to both our fans and our students to put a ban on certain content simply because we ourselves do not agree with it, would it not...?

(What is this man saying?)

Toa: It is our role as professors to moderate what is spread around this academy on school grounds.

Roy: Yes, but is it not important that we encourage the creativity of students? Even if it may manifest itself in...unseemly forms.

Toa & Guy: ...

Both Avari and I look at him skeptically.

Roy: Now then…um, I'm afraid an urgent matter has come up that I must tend to immediately…

Roy: Good day, everyone.

Fenn reaches to take back the manuscript, but the Invidian prince is already halfway out the door.

Fenn: Oh. He took it.

MC: What was he in such a rush for?

Toa: More importantly…

Avari and I share a look; it seems we have found the one sole matter in which we agree on.

Toa & Guy: Fenn.

Fenn: Yes~?

Guy: Hand over the bag.

Toa: I do not wish to have to report this to the headmaster, but I will if necessary.

Fenn gasps dramatically.

Fenn: Whoa…!

Fenn: Have you two finally found common ground?

Fenn: Is this the start of a forbidden romance just like the story?!

Toa: Fenn, I repeat, I WILL report this to the headmaster.

Fenn: Oh by all means, Toa, please do!

Fenn: I would certainly not mind a little scolding from the headmaster~

I sigh at Fenn’s reaction.

Toa: You are truly incorrigible.

Toa: Unfortunately I have a class I must teach, but do not think this means I am allowing you to distribute such material. I will be back.

However...despite both the attempts of Avari and I that day, neither of us were successful in confiscating the abhorrent texts.

Fenn has left me no choice but to report to the headmaster.

Headmaster: Come in.

Toa: Excuse me.

Toa: Headmaster, it has come to my attention that there is various inappropriate material involving myself and the other S ranks being circulated among the students of this academy. It also seems that Fenn is the primary circulator of this material.

Headmaster: Inappropriate material you say? In what manner?

Toa: Fictional stories, perhaps better labeled as ‘fan fiction’, written by other students, or possibly Fenn himself, containing obscene content including sexually explicit scenes and...romantic entanglements...between the different S ranks.

Toa: Based on my research it appears that there are currently a total of five ongoing series, each containing a various number of volumes.

Truly at a loss for words, I stand up, open the door, and silently walk out of the Headmaster's office.

The door closes behind me, drowning out his voice.

I slowly walk down the hallway as I return to my chambers, suddenly questioning my understanding of this academy and the people who reside in it.

And then, I totally was not planning on Toa to have been thinking such cute thoughts about MC during those scenes, it just sorta happened...which means an extra big Fuck You to MC for thinking he was cheating because of those scenes!!
