Indochina on the left, Belgium on the right.

Our Indochinese riflemen return! Though they wore many uniforms, they are back here with the most characteristic one of WW1, borrowed from the African army and its mustard colour. They however kept their salacco hat, protected by a beige fabric to cover its colours and bearing the metallic anchor of the colonial troops. They wear the standard leather equipment set of the French army and carry the special M1902 'Indochinese' rifle which was made shorter than the standard issues, as Indochinese soldiers were on average shorter than a metropolitan Frenchman.

Cue the Belgian Askari, this time in a more standard uniform as well, and making them look quite like their German rivals. Wearing British web equipment, he also sports a cloth badge on his fez cover which corresponded to different units but unfortunately, History lost its particular assignation.

Currently Reading:

I am slow reader and not good at carving reading time for myself so I’m still reading Mrs Dalloway but I’ll be finished soon, I’m thinking of re-reading Derek Jarman’s Chroma next

I Don’t Care What the People Say by Silver Apples, I’m mostly relistening to the stuff I was in spring 2020 (i.e. Romeo Void and Silver Apples albums, and also Combat Rock, Dancing With Myself and Love Shack for some reason)

📯 Currently Working On (Sims wise):

I have a bunch of WIPs : other than the football recolour, the main thing I have in the works is a big set of 1870′s/1880′s clothes (and maybe some accessories we’ll see), I’m also in the midst of converting the clogs from the Victorian Laborer set for children and toddlers, I want to make a chamber pot (or maybe just recolor the one from @zx-ta) and I have more WW1 uniforms (doughboys, indian army soldiers, senegalese and annamite tirailleurs) that are halfway done but I needed a break from the military stuff especially currently

🤫Real Life:

I’m applying for university because the career path I was previously heading into didn’t fit me great, but it’s the first time I have to do it since I’ve only been to art school which is quite different so it’s stressing me out and I have to fight the procrastination hard...

Other then that I’ve been volunteering a lot at an early middle ages historical park near me which is part building construction and sewing, part reenacting and informing visitors, it’s quite fun I’m currently sewing an outfit for myself to not have to borrow one anymore (and slowly learning to use a sewing machine)

Also I’m trying to learn italian again and I have a long way to go !

(by the way if anybody has any recommandations for either italian short stories/novels or youtube channels which are good but not too complex that would be amazing)

Lính Khố Xanh & Khố Đỏ

* Đây là loạt bài về lính thú thời xưa, bao gồm từ thời các vua Nguyễn cho đến thời Pháp thuộc. Việt Nam trong thời Pháp thuộc được chia thành “ba kỳ”: Tonkin (Bắc kỳ), Cochinchine (Nam kỳ) và Annam (Trung kỳ).***Trong thời Pháp thuộc, danh từ “lính tập” (tirailleurs) được sử dụng để chỉ những người lính Việt Nam do các sĩ quan người Pháp huấn luyện và chỉ huy. Ngoài ra, còn có các từ ngữ “Lính Khố Xanh” và “Lính Khố Đỏ” để chỉ hai loại lính thú trong thời kỳ Việt Nam chịu thuộc quyền đô hộ của chính quyền Đông Dương (Indochine), bao gồm Việt Nam – Cao Miên và Lào.

Lính khố đỏ canh gác tại Dinh Toàn Quyền, Sài Gòn“Lính khố đỏ” (tirailleurs indochinois hoặc milicien à ceinture rouge) là lực lượng vũ trang chính của chính quyền thuộc địa Pháp ở Đông Dương dùng người bản xứ làm quân đội chính quy. Lính khố đỏ có ba loại:1. Lính khố đỏ Nam Kỳ (tirailleurs annamites, tirailleurs cochinchinois hay tirailleurs saigonnais);2. Lính khố đỏ Bắc Kỳ (tirailleurs tonkinois) và3. Lính khố đỏ Cao Miên (tirailleurs cambodgiens).

Lính tuyển từ các thành phần dân tộc thiểu số ở Lào CaiDanh từ “Lính khổ đỏ” xuất phát từ quân phục của nhóm này gồm quần áo chẽn, nón dẹp (sau đổi nón chóp), và giải thắt lưng màu đỏ buộc ở bụng, đầu giải buông thõng ở bẹn giống như cái khố nên người dân Việt mới gọi là “khố đỏ” tuy đúng ra người lính mặc quần chứ không phải khố.Ngoài lính khố đỏ còn có “Lính khố xanh” (milicien à ceinture blue, garde provincial) đồn trú tại các tỉnh, canh gác ở các phủ và huyện. Riêng “Lính khố vàng” (milicien à ceinture jaune, garde royal à Hué) đóng ở kinh đô Huế, bảo vệ triều đình và hoàng tộc nhà Nguyễn.
