Eddie kisses Steve first.

They’re getting high in the living room of his and Wayne’s new trailer, and Steve is turned partly towards him on the couch. Their knees are touching and the air is thick, and Steve is giving Eddie an insane amount of eye contact as he talks. He’s holding the joint out to him when Steve’s eyes dip from Eddie’s to his mouth, and Eddie never thinks twice about it.

It’s just a little peak on the lips and Eddie pulls back immediately.

Steve’s got eyes like dinner plates and Eddie asks with a voice steadier than he feels, “Is that okay?”

Steve says, “Y-yeah. Yeah, it is.”

At this point, Eddie has been pretty settled in his sexuality.

He knows that he has had a crush on Steve since the first time he saw him. He knows that for many years that he was annoyed and embarrassed by it, and that it only got worse when he learned that Steve Harrington was not only a good guy, but a badass monster slayer.

Steve sat at Eddie’s bedside the entire time he was in the hospital. He drove Eddie to physical therapy and told lame jokes, and he made Eddie feel better about not being about to cope with the Upside Down shit, and no one ever asked him too. Eddie knows that he has feelings for Steve, and he thinks that Steve has feelings for him too.

It takes Steve a bit longer to realize what he’s feeling because he won’t know for few more months that he’s even allowed to like both girls and guys. He knows that he likes Eddie and he knows that it’s in a different way than how he likes Robin or Dustin. Steve’s kissed boys before. He’s made out with Tommy before so the part of him that’s not ready to confront his sexuality tells him that this a normal friend thing to do, but he’s never wanted to do more. He wants to do more with Eddie.

He wants to do everything with Eddie.

So yeah, they were hooking up before they admitted they had feeling for each other but the feelings were there.

Growing up as a Buddhist kid in America, Aang was the first of very few characters I felt represented by in tv. The first of very few characters who held strong in his belief of gentleness and compassion for all living creatures.

So to disregard Aang's beliefs - and struggle with those beliefs in an imperialist war torn world - it makes me a little sick to my stomach. To say Aang isn't a compelling character, that he doesn't have a deep and touching arc... I don't think you know how to interpret media beyond the typical Shonen cookie cutter.

Aang's faith is what makes him the one, what makes him special. Aang's faith is the reason the universe kept him safe from the attack on the air temple. Aang's faith is the reason it was him to end the war.

He was faced with obstacle after obstacle and pressured by everyone (including his own soul) to give up his culture and faith, but he doesn't.

If it had been Kuruk, Kyoshi, Roku, or even Korra, they would have killed Ozai. They would have continued the cycle of pain, and I believe, continued the war.

100 years of war and violence, murder, and disregard for human life wasn't what brought peace back to the world. Peace itself was. Compassion and gentleness were.

The only way to truly defeat imperialism, colonialism, fire nation supremacy is to END the cycle. To embrace your own culture, your own faith, to refuse to give in to their methods of violence and hate. To stand strong in your own beliefs.

THAT is Aang's character arc.
