Hello there robocar poli fandoms today i want to talk about a Mecha anime that i recently watch these day and Its rarely talk to and also it had English dub- that you didn't know

This anime called zettai mutteki raijin oh or invicible matchless raijin oh in translate sorry if i misscorect

The summary of the story is an evil organisation which was named the Evil Empire (ジャーク帝国, Jāku Teikoku) comes to Earth with the intent to conquer and despoil it. From their fortress they launch a missile that will flood the world with (Akudamas (アークダーマ, Ākudama)), eggs of darkness which hatch into evil monsters called (Evil Beasts (邪悪獣, Jāku Jyū)) based on things that annoy or frustrate humans.

The "guardian of light" Eldran appears, an Ultraman-like entity who is sworn to protect the universe and Earth in particular then appears. Using the heroic robot Raijin-Oh, Eldran attempts to thwart the Evil Empire by preventing a missile from striking Earth. What happens instead is that the missile detonated against Eldran, throwing Raijin-Oh down to Earth. The robot crashes into Japan's Hinobori city(日昇町 (Hinobori Chō)) a neighboring town to Aozora and Harukaze, elementary school Hinobori Academy.

Eldran must leave to continue protecting the Earth, so he leaves the duty of defeating the Evil Beasts to a 5th grade classroom full of children, Earth Defense Class (地球防衛組, Chikyuu Bouei Gumi) in the school where he crashed. He entrusts the children with Raijin-Oh, granting each child a different role to perform in either operating or supporting Raijin-Oh. Eldran also transforms their school itself, so it can transform into a command center when Raijin-Oh is needed. Jin, Asuka and Kouji are chosen to lead Raijin-oh, but every day they have many amusing experiences in the school. Jin does not want to study, while his friends do and force him to do it by tickling him. (Based on Wikipedia)

Honestly i was really suprised that this anime is a bit forgotten media..and it had English dub- tho only in DVD..but you can watch the sub version on YouTube including the ova(yes this anime is on YouTube)

And also this is the first series that was part of the eldran series and there is two more series that were part of the eldran series such as:

"Genki bakuhatsu ganbaruger" or energestic explosion ganbaruger in translate and this is the second franchise of the eldran series...

The summary of the story' were take place after the event of raijin oh series (yes the eldran series is same timeline but the rest of the character of the raijin oh never appeard on ganbaruger except for eldran)

The summary of the story' is Ever since God Raijin-Oh had defeated the Evil Empire, peace has returned to Hinobori. In Aozora City (a neighboring town to Hinobori City where Jin and his friends lived), Toubei is trying to train his son Kotaro in the art of the ninja, but a bomb accidentally releases Gokuark, a great demon king of The Demon World (大魔界, Daimakai) that Eldran had been keeping contained. Eldran manages to contain him, but one of his servants manages to escape as well, and now attempts to free his master.

Eldran grants Raijin-oh's (mainly Ken-Oh, Hou-Oh, Juu-Oh) three new successor mechas named Go Tiger, King Elephant, and Mach Eagle to Kotaro and his two friends, Yosuke and Rikiya, as well as pilot suits that grant each of them a superpower. However, there are also cursed and each of them can turn into a dog when their identity is known to others by a dark wizard, Yaminorius so they kinda be like Hero in secret and other crazy shenanigans (based on Wikipedia)

This second series is had also had English dub but i can't find it anywhere from what Been searching that this anime is also aired in Malaysian but yeah lack of information about this anime is pretty hard and also this is forgotten media of course...

And here is the third series that were part of the eldran franchise:

Nekketsu saikyo go saurer or hot blooded strongest go saurer on translate and ITS the third series of eldran franchise

This series is take place after ganbaruger and the robot of this anime is dinosaur for some reason (i love it lol)

The summary of the story were The Mechanization Empire has succeeded in mechanizing the entire Solar System, with the exception of planet Earth. They had been targeting the Earth in both the present and the past (64 million years prior) at the same time, but their attempts to add it to their ever-growing empire are thwarted by Eldran, who entrusts the protection of Earth in the present to a group of elementary school children in the 6th grade from Harukaze City, the Saurers, who with the giant dinosaur-like mecha that were given to them by Eldran, Go-Saurer, battle against the Mechanization Empire and halt their quest to turn the Earth into another part of their dominion in space. And but sadly this series is never Been dubbed before...and the series is almost simillar to raijin oh using same element like using the school as. A base for the robots..but i like the launch sequense of the robots on the school i know this is 90 anime but man! I love it its like IM watching Gundam and a lot of details when the launch sequense had happened and also this series is on YouTube including ganbaruger but its sub only if you want to watch it..

And also the character from go saurer never EVER met the other character from the previous eldran series such as jin and Kotaro from prespective series (raijin oh and ganbaruger)

And THE ONLY character that were appeard in all of the three series of eldran franchise is..this old guy:

His name is general Takeda he was the chief of Japan earth defence force he was the Only character that appeard in raijin oh, ganbaruger and also go saurer at the same time and also he had a daughter name katsuya from ganbaruger series and suprisingly he was really usefull in raijin oh,ganbaruger and go saurer not just like typhical military that wasn't even doing ANYTHING like most of the Ultraman series (sorry Ultraman fans)

I kinda like this guys he was stern and stubborn old man that opposed the children in the prespective series but in the end he always trust the children to defending the earth and he Will always help whatever he can

Oh i almost forget turn out the eldran franchise is had ITS fourth and final instaltment of the series that you guys never heard of and it was on magazine only and never EVER make into a series what is it call again? Ah yes

This is the fourth and final instaltment of the eldran franchise that people never EVER heard about or should i say forgotten media

Its name is Kanzen no shouri daiteh oh or perfect victory daiteh oh in translate

Honestly i didn't have much information about this series because it was Made in manga or magazine to celebrate 10th anniversary of the eldran series

But i had the summary of the story' based on Wikipedia this is take place after raijin oh ganbaruger and go saurer:

A year after the defeat of the Kikaika's boss Kikaijin, Eldran, the spirit of the Earth is guarding the planet peacefully from the evil villain organizations that came from space or another dimension, while giving several groups of kids special mechas which let them protect the Earth for years. It was only a matter of time when this very peaceful day suddenly changed when a very new evil organization known as the Onigashima attacked Earth. The Earth Defense Force, now in the 2nd year of middle school, the Ganba Team now in the sixth grade and the Saurers now in middle school quickly rush to the attack and started fighting this new evil organization. However, the Onigashima managed to easily defeat the Eldran Robots with the pilots inside, which results in them turning into a giant golden sword. The golden sword appears from the sky and turn Gokuraku Elementary School into a base for Daiteioh. Tarou Oomomo is a very brash 5th grader of Class 5-3 along with Kakeru and Mai. The three students accepted Eldran's mission. Now with Asuka's cousin, Hiryu, they are able to fight side by side with each other. Now, riding in their battleship, the Gokuracruiser, the Dankettsu Team children from Class 5-3 are ready to help Jin and the others to fight against the Onigashima.

And suprisingly this time the three of the series of the eldran series finally meet each other first person to protect the earth with daiteh oh and also it was Made in ova only and can find on YouTube if you want to search it and sadly it was never EVER to Made into a series again lack of information

My opinion on the eldran series is ok but i kinda wish that sunrise continue this series more and i kinda wanted the other character from prespective series meet and also connected to each other and my Rating of this series ? Is 7,9/10 pretty good anime,best animation but i wish they continue this series! This series is a hidden gem and i was. Surprise that nobody talk about this series i like them! 👍👍👍👍

I've such conflicting (but mostly) negative opinions about dubbed anime. If so much of it wasn't just "strong American accents trying so hard not to sound like they're reading from a script but they clearly are" then it'd be great.

I'm not an elitist, about anything really (not that I can think of, but maybe there's something idk I'm tired), but I will always pick sub over dub. Am I able to properly analyse subbed anime and the voice work done on it? No. That'd be ignorant. The way a character says "nande? nande da yo!?" in Japanese vs a character saying "what? what?!" in American English is obviously going to sound different. And I can't find flaws when I hear Japanese voices. But maybe people who speak Japanese can. Because if I'm listening to that "what?" in English and it sounds forced, scripted, not passionate enough, bland, too angry, etc then I'll know its bad. Cause its my first language. And maybe Japanese people can tell when voice acting is bad in Japanese. Idk. Sometimes I've been able to. I can tell when a Japanese VA does not want to be there but wants a paycheck.

But for the most part, I'm pretty much sold on Japanese voice work. They're passionate about their job. It FEELS like they're there to try their best. And after having only watched subs since, idk, 2010? I'll be quite harsh on dubs. But here's the thing. I'm biased. Any dubs I seen pre-2010 I vouch for being good. Why? Because I originally watched them dubbed. Inuyasha and Death Note being the main ones. And due to that, I constantly re-watch them dubbed. Its actually hard for me to connect them to their Japanese VA's. Now, to give Inuyasha some credit, when you watch the first good few eps, they're not... the greatest. Just some voices trying to match their mouths to the characters and it sounds so off. But then... then they get the hang of it. And they get better at it.

Death Note I believe is the overall best dub.

YGO... ok. How do I even talk about YGO...

Removing Kaiba bc people have literally said no other dub voice could ever replace his and be able to portray that asshole more perfectly, I think the YGO dub is decent. I don't fault anyone for saying its bad. I think the overall consensus is that its a good dub with terrible (but classic) dialogue. If they'd had the same script as the Japanese version, it'd be brilliant.

People can argue about Joey's accent, Bakura's accent, and say "why give them those accents tho", but Joey speaking in that accent is better than literally 99% of Americans giving generic American voices to characters to the point that they all sound the same. PLUS, Wayne Grayson portrays Joey's emotions brilliantly. And its a personal thing to me, but I like Bakura being British. If others dont, that's fine. I know he can sorta come across as Stereotypical British Villain as Deadpool calls it, but I think he's sassy and I like it. Some voices are a NO. The actor that portrays Noah is the most famous actor (not even VA, he's in movies and shit), but his voice is awful. Same for Marik, and Yami Marik, and Weevil. But then Pegasus comes in perfectly. And Anzu doesn't sound forced. And then some are just ok, like Tristan and Ishizu. Dan Green is debatable.

Like I said, I can only vouch for two good dubs. Maybe if I'd seen Kuroshitsuji dubbed I wouldn't think its so terrible and gave it more of a chance than one episode. But I don't know...

Because as of now, I've seen 10 Attack on Titan dub episodes and fuck me......... they sound like Power Rangers every time they talk. In the Japanese, I feel... inspired? In the dub I'm like "could they have not said this line as a normal human being would???????"

Why u should watch tokyo mew mew: the extremely abridged version (because I could talk for a Long Long time about why it’s my favorite series ever and why I think everyone who is interested in magical girl stuff should check it out. this post is already very long tho)

some things I couldnt fit on the slides or forgot to add:

-the series really lends itself to making ocs/self inserts which is fun!! both the mews and aliens designs have common elements in common that makes it easy to make your own character just by taking a food + animal + color!

-All the characters have variations of their name’s spellings across various translations, so you’ll hear a lot of versions of their names ( Zakuro sometimes being Zacro, Kisshu being Quiche or Kish, Bu-Ling/Pudding and her last name being Fong or Huang, Mint/Minto, Tart/Taruto, Pai/Pie, etc...)

-there IS a dub. by 4kids. called mew mew power. it’s...uh, interesting. It only got dubbed up to ep 26/52, and they made some bizarre name changes and even changed the episode order and censored some things that def didn’t need censoring (zakuro’s weapon being a cross was Scandalous) It’s kinda infamous for being bad, but it’s honestly funny and I’m attached to it since I grew up watching it first... I’d recommend checking it out after watching the subs, or just watching a compilation vid of it because it’s genuinely really funny

-I haven’t actually READ tmm: Ole! yet beyond like, 1-2 chapters, so I can’t really vouch for if its as a good as the og series! I just wanted to mention it exists :)

Fansub Translation Quality of Fukou-kun wa Kiss suru shika nai Episode 1

Since I got asked about that one. Technically I was meaning to look at episodes beyond just the first (I did watch up to episode 4), but later on it got incredibly hard to actually still pay attention to the subs at all. Even with rewinding a few times for the purpose I still wound up not to be watching out for them too attentively. The reason?

......... I completely forgot this was the penguin show I was planning to avoid for the time being. And then it even comes to serve up a penguin plush dakimura on the regular? Argh!!

... anyway, that was supposed to be about translations.

The TL;DR: They are very solidly competent.

I wouldn't say they are god tier or master class translations, because they clearly still feel like translations (brilliant translations for me are those that make you forget that you are reading a translation). But that's perfectly fair here, since this isn't professional nor official translation and there is also a disclaimer on their site already informing you beforehand of what is to be expected. Punctually, there were a few lines I liked better from the Viki version of episode 1, but on the whole these subs win by a landslide.

Some things that picked my attention in order of appearance:

Much more English sounding English. The phrasings in general read much more rounded. There are still some spots that felt awkward to me, but they weren't far less numerous than the Viki version. In some cases, it ditches some nuances of the source in favor of it. Knowing when to how best cut your losses to preserve a smoother, natural reading flow is a skill in translation I very much respect. (As that's also the department I'm worst in myself.)

Sign translations: Not only are there more than Viki had, they are ON the signs. I've heard this is very much a headache to actually sub, which is why official streams in anime ditch it on the regular. That's a nice to have since the show does have a few plays with typography and showing line chat convos. It does cut costs by not subbing signs when they are being read out loud. That might be a bit confusing potentially, but is also nice to not overplaster the actual frames unnecessarily.

I liked the Viki translation better for the register change of boku->ore in episode 1 ("Dropping the sweet act, here’s my actual introduction") directly after the fake more as a localization. The fansubs goes the route of simply dodging it altogether. ("I... no my real profile) Which reads a little bit awkward, but still not as awkward as the weirdest the Viki offered far more often.

It uses last name usages as spoken and honorifics. Personally I don't rank the preservation of these as highly as many (since they detract from the invisibility of the translation itself), but if you don't have the skills to replace the flavors with local means, I do like preservation more than a clusterfuck of an inconsistent mess. Here, unlike Viki person references are consistent.

Otherwise, register changes in speech (specifically mostly Kouta's pronouns and rude/polite speech) are generally dodged or ignored. The loss here seems not huge to me, tho, since almost all talks are among same age peers and is mostly marking a difference for Kouta. This show is full of overacting, so the shifts of his modes are very obvious with the actor's grimaces and voice intonation, even without the grammar.

One that is also ditched are the anglicisms within Japanese (like how the Professor uses some of them for the introduction game) which make him kinda try sound more hip). But Viki didn't do that either, it's just more noticeable here because it attempts more in terms of preserving. It's pretty minor nuance and not plot relevant, so whatever.

The puppy/whiny (?) speeches that stretch vowels get preserved by getting translated with the ~ to indicate the prolongation. This is usually not something you ever learn in school to use, so it usually won't show up in any more official translations. It (I think) stems mostly from comics/manga, but using it here is pretty clever. (The show is a manga adaption to begin with, audacious enough to even have them literally read about themselves in the drama and the show style itself is also very cartoonish.)

"Keeping my interactions shallow" (fansub) vs. "I don't get close to people" (Viki), the fansubs are more literal here. But also manage to put the phrasing still sound rounded English.

"It's not laughing matter" nicely English sounding localization of that very Japanese expression (シャレにならない). The Viki one went more a dodging route that is okay, but this one is definitely more pretty and displays knowledge about local witty expressions.

what a drag (Viki), vs. boring (fansubs) about the party. A bit nitpicking, but Kouta sounds annoyed and rude/condescending in his intonation and even dropping the i of 怠い (tarui, dull, bothersome, pain in the ass) so I prefer the Viki one.

Just make some small talk and bounce (Viki) vs. get through it safely (fansubs), the latter is more accurate to the meaning and focuses on the safety aspect, the more free take of Viki's preserves more of the rude way of Kouta looking at other people, so both are kind of nice. Take your preferred flavor.

It feels like as if the fansub translator does not like the わけない (wake nai) expression. It gets dodgy in both cases that show up in episode 1 (right after the fake intro implodes and before the girl comes to sap him for being a presumed stalker), and I think the Viki's "Yeah as if" and "Of course, I still got it" are more pointed in how it's preserving this sarcastic salty tone. (This is more in the nitpicking realm, tho, the fansubs versions lose nothing essentially important.)

how well you anull my bad luck (Viki) vs. testing the effectiveness of your misfortune wards (fansub), the latter is more literal and sounds a bit more like a mouthful, so I like the Viki one better.

This guy is unaware of his own nature is decidedly better than Viki's ladykiller that just sounds weird for Kouta being in a BL to say that with effects to himself. It does lose out on the triple serving nuance of the deprecating tone, but this is where you better cut your loses before it becomes something just weird. (I still think it's just a compromise though, since it's such a mouthful and in a later episode the term gets mentions again and there the sentence sounds awkward. But I don't really have any better idea either. If it was a pedestrian shoujo "obtuse ladykiller" would have actually worked pretty great.)

This one also went for formidable for osoroshii like Viki. Now I'm kind of low key starting to question my own English. (osoroshii literally means dreadful. In this context. You say that when somebody is way too good in something, and you are expressing that you have to be very much on alert around them. The word formidable in English struck me more like a showcase of respect?)

I want you to go out with me~ screws even attempting the ambiguity of the Japanese expression and goes straight for the kill. (Also additional ~ for the girlyness.) I was actually surprised how well that works even being that clear. The camera angle for that line is in PoV from Naoya, so just going for what he's perceiving at that moment works out perfectly fine.

If you're his lover, you'd kiss him right? sounds a bit awkward third person. I liked the more concise factual sounding "Couples normally kiss, right?" from Viki better.

On a side note, in case somebody's interested. (Because PENGUINS, damn it.)

ペンギン (pengin)

is the Japanese word for them. The pen usually gets pronounced like the English pen (as in pen and paper). Kouta stresses the e more like as in PENG-gin (peng as in like the sound of a gunshoot peng), which is his puppy bubbly overly too happy kinda girlish mode.

And also since it has come to penguins, me feels very much compelled to point any penguin-inclined reader that can stomach anime over to Mawaru Penguindrum with its absolute overload of penguins. (And the origin of penguins being able to make me this silly.)

(Am I whining that I am back to waiting for the upcoming Re:Cycle movies I had successfully pushed out of my mind so far? I probably am.)

i want to get into mdzs, but i have no idea where to start or in what order or even where! help?

ur asking the most chaotic mdzs consumer because i did everything out of order 😭 after watching cql i read the last 20 chapters of the novel, and then season 3 of the audio drama and THEN went back to read/listen from the start gfhdjfhdjshf.

there’s pros and cons of every adaption and ppl have different tastes depending on if you prefer written, audio, or visual media so i’ll make an overly simplified list of pros and cons/where to access them (i’m guessing you’ve watched cql but in case you haven’t i’ll still include it in this list :3)

i’m not galaxy brained enough to write intricate meta about the differences of each adaption so bare with me 😭

novel pros: the original material so it’s the truest form of mdzs, complete, very complex and enthralling plot about morality, not censored, covers really dark themes extremely well cons: the only complete english translation is occasionally a bit uncomfy to read (ignore the author’s notes lol), the author writes terrible sex scenes </3 where to read it: full english translation can be read here

donghua pros: IT’S SO PRETTY, like the animation studio’s style is breathtaking, also closely follows novel canon with some minor alterations due to censorship and time constraints, lwj’s voice actor is the same as cql! cons: it’s still incomplete, it can be a bit hard to follow in the beginning if u haven’t read the novel where to watch it: for free on the wetv app or on youtube

donghua q pros: it’s currently airing!!, it’s the cutest thing u will ever watch, they’re all 5 minute bonus stories, it’s adorable cons: there are none where to watch it: for free on the wetv app or on youtube

manhua pros: follows the novel almost identically except for the few times when censorship struck (the artist still gave us the kiss tho, bless them), weekly updates every monday morning!!, the chibi panels r always so cute cons: still ongoing and probably won’t be finished for a year or so, can be hard to follow if u haven’t read the novel, the official english translation is a bit awkward (fan translations r better but idk if there’s any up to date ones) where to read it: the original can be read here (only first 25 chaps r free), the official english translation can be read here for free but there’s also a paywall (as of rn chapters 1-99 r free)

audio drama pros: complete!!, follows the novel plot, extremely well produced!!, wwx’s voice actor is the same as cql!, has heaps of extras, everything about the production quality is just *chefs kiss*, the audio drama is so underrated as an adaption and idk why bc it’s so well done cons: it can be a bit strange at first to listen while reading subs (if u don’t understand chinese) but u get used to it, the fansubs can get a bit annoying during certain scenes where to listen to it: the official version can be found on the missevan app (no subs and gotta pay), and all the fansubs can be found in this discord!, heaps of the extras r also on youtube bonus bc i love the audio drama: listen to this and also this extra.... it’s domestic asmr and what convinced me to listen to the ad properly 🥺

drama pros: completed very easy to get into, very pretty, probably the easiest version to get into for someone who hasn’t read cnovels before cons: it’s the adaption with the biggest plot changes (due to various forms of censorship) where to watch it: netflix (paid), wetv, viki, youtube (all free)

drama ~special edition~ pros: occasionally contains extra shots that didn’t make the original cut, the ending is edited differently just to spice things up cons: they condensed 50 episodes into 20, i still don’t understand the purpose of why it exists ???? where to watch it: wetv and youtube

is this list helpful in the slightest? probably not 😅 tldr; there’s a version for everyone no matter what your favourite medium is

The Bear’s Famous Invasion of Sicily

Movie, 2019, Italian/French

9/10, a delightful little movie with amazing visuals. It feels like an animated picture book.

One of those “plot is in the title” media! I had never heard of this before but was heavily recommended it by my family members, who all loved it! It’s a sweet story, nothing groundbreaking but the unique colorful visual style alone makes it worth it.

The Castle of Cagliostro

Movie, 1979, Japanese

10/10. Reminded me of all the books i loved reading as a child

I assume its because it’s so old and the art style and themes are so different that it gets little to no love compared to other Ghibli movies, which is a shame! It’s fun with an endearing cast and as always, great animation and music

Mushishi

Series, 2006, Japanese

10/10 three episodes in I knew it was going to be my favorite series ever

6/10 Dissapointing adaptation of a classic story

I read the manga for this when I was in middle school and remembered loving it. The animated version does an ok job of presenting the characters and worldbuilding and has some nice action scenes but overall looks really damn cheap and just. Not very good. Seeing I already knew most of the plot I did not have the element of discovery that made me marvel so much reading the original. It’s still a nice series but I really recommend reading it instead.

Code Lyoko (s1+2)

3/10. 1.5 being for the opening song alone

This show sucks ass if I hadn’t been watching this with my bestie I would have dropped it two episodes in. The art style is ugly the stories are always the same and the first season has a (later removed thank fucking god) LITERAL “erase any consequences” button as a plot device in every episode. If you watch it for one thing let it be the nostalgia factor of early 00s Vidya Game Plot

The Legend of Hei

7/10. Impressive visuals and a poor story

I finally watched this, peer pressured by the load of gifsets on my dashboard! It’s a sweet movie with really impressive animation, sometimes a bit too flashy for my taste (the action sequences go so ham they become not very readable...) but the story was just ok? The setting is barely explained and you are instead bombarded with vague epicspeech about powers and stuff that made me fondly remember Kingdom Hearts lol but that asides it’s a really good time! I need to watch more Chinese movies the few I know are just delightfully off the shits in how they approach action and I love that

Hunter x Hunter

Series, 1999, Japanese

9/10. Superior to the recent one!

I first got introduced to the series via the 2011 one. Comparatively, the 99 series focuses way less on action and way more on the characters, which I love because that fits my personal preferences! Despite mediocre filler episodes and some weird slight pointless plot changes, what it changes from the original manga doesn’t have much of an impact on the characters. The animation quality isn’t always consistent including a huge art style change for an arc (???) but it’s overall pretty nice. The series really shines in the last arc it adapts.

Oban Star-racers

Series, 2006, Japanese/french

9/10 a lovely surprise

This series is completly obscure despite having been created by people famous for their other series (Cowboy Bebop, Code Lyoko that i can name) and it’s a crime! It’s a kids show but without being stupid about it who tells the story of an inter-planetary race. If you liked that one scene in the star wars prequels you know what I mean. It’s got surprisingly nice animation for a TV series, and some truly great character design. The art style is a bit unique in a not for everyone sense, but I didn’t mind it much. It’s also THE most offensively 2000s series i’ve seen in terms of visuals. y2k kids assemble

Movie, 1963, japanese

8/10. Classic fairytale format with incredible visuals

Watched this for the art style because I know it inspired Samurai Jack, and it delievered! I dont’ have much to say about this one, it’s a very simply film but it’s sweet. For my pirates out there if you want to find it in good quality with english subtitles it’s VERY hard to find. If you just want to see the looks of it, it’s on Youtube with portugese subs.

Watched this fully blind for the first time in an animated festival and rewatched it with friends. It’s a crime I never see anyone talking about it given the amount of whining I see about the lack of both adult animation and 2D movies? This film is a unique love letter to art in the form of a weird mix of charming crime story and psychological horror with amazing visuals. I recommend watching it blind and also buying it to show appreciation for how nice it is!!! WATCH THIS MOVIE...

10/10 Visual/storytelling masterpiece in the weird shit departement

If you can stomach intense stuff watch this. The visuals are incredibly unique and beautiful and under the jewel tones and art direction high takes it’s a really cool horror series. My only obstacle to enjoying it the first time I saw it was how dense it is - simply put, it’s so...culturally Japanese it’s not very accessible to me who doesn’t know anything about the culture? Watching it for the second time helped understanding the stories more!

9/10 but really close to ten. A great adaptation!

I’m a huge fan of the original comic so I entered this a biiiittttt suspicious it would suck but it was a really pleasant surprise! It has all the wonder and charm of the original and the animation was surprisingly good for the little budget. If you’re not familiar with the series, it’s a sort of geopolitical action/adventure movie but with it’s own really poetic vibe to it. It’s almost impossible to find online but happens to be fully on YouTube so go ham I guess?

Every review of this movie i’ve seen gives it five stars and starts by talking about how immensly stupid it is. I’m no different. It’s a masterpiece of escalating energy with the depth of a puddle and it fucking rules. It’s free on YouTube too so there really is no excuse to not watch it. Watched it for the first time on a huge cinema screen and despite this my second rewatch on my small laptop was as/even more enjoyable. If you watch this stoned with friends you might travel to another dimension

I tend to hate american cinema and this includes that era of animation I have no nostalgia for. Sinbad is in a weird place because I love adventure stories and the visuals of the movie absolutely deliver but it’s very predictable and TANKED by the addition of the female character, pushed in your face as “look we have woman!!!” despite her writing being misogynistic as hell lol. The evil goddess rules tho. This movie would have been a solid 9 if instead of the girl the two dudes had kissed

ITS A REALLY GREAT ANIME AND IT HAS SOME OF THE BEST CHARACTER WRITING I HAVE EVER SEEN. IT IS ABSOLUTELY ONE OF MY TOP FAVE ANIMES EVER

HOWEVER

idk how old you are (or the age of anyone possibly reading this) so i feel i should say Osomatsu-san has a lot of mature themes and is CLEARLY meant for a more mature audience of the adult/college age/MAYBE later teen variety

all the main and most important side characters in the show are at least in their 20′s.

im not recommending this show to kids is what im saying haha

its nowhere near as wholesome as hero aca

ANYWAY ONTO YOUR QUESTIONS

1. Sub or Dub?

as of right now there is no dub Viz Media, who most recently did the redub of sailor moon (AND ITS FANTASTIC BTW SO IT GIVES ME HIGH HOPES FOR MATSUS), had sent out a tweet saying that the dub was going to be released some time in October of this year but …nothing happened?? my buddy @arr-jim-lad even contacted them about it, and they responded that there were no updates to mention. ://///SO right now sub is all we got haha

ITS REALLY GOOD THO SO ITS NOT LIKE A NEGATIVE OR ANYTHING BC THESE VOICE ACTORS ARE AMAZINGdef my fave voice actors of any sub ive watched (and ive watched quite a few)

2. How do I know who’s who? I already know some of the easy ones, thanks to you.

one of my fave aspects of this show is that after a few eps, despite them all having the same face, it becomes VERY EASY to tell them apart haha this is part of why the character writing is so strong imo!

but here’s a few tips and tricks to look for just in case you cant tell right away!

the easiest thing to get the hang of first when it comes to noticing the matsus is def their designated colors! Even when theyre not in their trademark hoodies they can usually be seen wearing their colors somewhere on themselves so if you cant tell who’s who right away LOOK FOR THE COLORS!!

if theyre all wearing matching outfits you can look at their hair shinies bc they’ll usually be their color when nothing else is! (tho those are a bit more subtle in coloring bc ..well..shinies haha)

each of the bros has a standard neutral expression, and some of them have fun quirks that make it very easy to tell who’s who! lets start backwards this time \(ouo)/ (mostly bc from the start the youngest bros are def easiest to recognize…besides karamatsu ofc)

he’s the designated “cute” boy, and the worst/best self-centered millennial stereotype. actually a total mean girl in disguise, and (according to his bros) a “vile monster”. i love him and he’s a cute demon. not the worst bro but pretty darn close.

💛Jyushimatsu (YELLOW SUNSHINE LIGHT OF MY LIFE)💛

the hyper-active, forever smiling, incredibly powerful, baseball boy! if something weird and crazy is going on jyushimatsu is either directly involved or about to be. he’s always laughing, smiling and making weird jokes/noises. a very sweet boy who is entirely too powerful. He often dresses as animals, and is used as an “attack dog” to torture whichever brother he’s commanded to (usually oso). A very unpredictable boy to say the least. Its hard to imagine an ooc version of him bc there isnt much he would not do or say.HE IS MY FAVE BEST SUNSHINE BOY

neutral expression: 8Dvoice: lowest pitch of the bros but also the loudest, often making weird/nonsensical sounds/noises such as: BBBBOEHBA!! 8Dquirks: - often goes cross eyed - is incredibly strong, can lift and throw his adult brothers like nbd - never has eye shinies in the anime unless he’s about to cry - wears shorts when everyone else is wearing pants, also some times wears a traffic cone on his head- wiggly arms and sleeves too long (even when its not the hoodie, usually his sleeves are always too long haha)- only one hair sticking out on the top of his head

💜Ichimatsu (purple cat man)💜

the designated darkmatsu, ichi is the slow moving, constantly slouching, quietest boy who thinks cats are way better than people. the least motivated matsu, even going out to do fun things (like drinking or gambling) is some times too much trouble. for him a good time is laying on the floor and thinking about death (and also cats). a fan of torture, if the situation calls for causing trauma he’s suddenly very talkative and plays w his voice a lot. he is the second brother (after my boy jyushi) that is often called upon when one of the other brothers (or anyone) needs to be tortured. i love this boy and he is good to my fave boy god bless suujimatsu

neutral expression: B(voice: usually very low, slow and monotone quirks: - eyes always half lidded, no shinies - always slouched- messy hair (some times w cat ears)- only bro to wear track pants (w the line on the side)- has a diff cat in his lap almost every ep, but does not actually own one- two hairs sticking out on the top of his head

💚Choromatsu (green frog weeb man)💚

the resident brother mom and a total idol otaku, choromatsu isnt concerned w much else besides his idol obsession and proving he’s way more responsible than his brothers. he often walks todomatsu to the bathroom at night and waits for him to finish since youngest bro is scared of the dark (reminder theyre both grown men in their 20′s). he thinks he’s better suited to be the oldest brother and leader rather than osomatsu and even points it out once, with agreements from both todomatsu and ichimatsu.if anything crazy happens choro is the first to scream about it not being ok. he’s got the strongest will of all the brothers and can never be persuaded to change his mind about a situation. he’s not a fighter at all and usually chooses to stay on the sidelines even if he agrees w whatever the bros are fighting about (killing god for instance).he’s under constant stress bc he’s pretending to do his best while his brothers are terrible i love him give this poor green man a vacation

neutral expression: :voice: higher pitched, not as high as todo but still higher among the bros, and usually using it to yell @ brosquirks: - smallest pupils, no shinies (in the anime)- usually has a worried expression- wears plaid a lot- is irritated almost all the time - wont look for a job bc he’s determined to be an idol manager- no hairs sticking out on top of his head

karamatsu is EASILY the most recognizable matsu. w those amazing eyebrows, constant use and abuse of anime eyes, wild variety of glittery, revealing, and leather clothing its no wonder he’s called painful oh my god i love this man DID I MENTION HE SPEAKS RANDOM ENGLISH FOR NO REASON AND ITS GREATalso he’s probably the most caring brother who genuinely wants his brothers to be happy and know theyre loved very much by him ;;

THERE HE IS!!!! THE TRASH KING BROTHER!!!!i kid, i kid sort ofimplying that the matsus are not all trash boys is just a joke tbqhfor me osomatsu was absolutely the hardest bro to recognize when i first watched the show, and i think the biggest tip i can give for him is just to look for the red boy scratching under his nose. also the boy who looks like he would buy and sell you. he’s a pretty brilliant con man and a good fighter too, but his laziness outweighs anything that he could possibly achieve in. he’s absolute trash but in a way still lovable?? OH ACTUALLY if youre familiar w the anime Lupin the Third just look for the brother that makes the most Lupin-esque faces he’s got that classic-anime-comedy-male-lead look more than any of the other bros so that might help you recognize him!

neutral expression: its like a stretched version of this :3 w teeth showingvoice: higher pitched, he plays w his voice almost as much as jyushimatsu, very playful and teasing, hardly ever serious sounding quirks: - scratching under his noise- obsessed w money and women (and never has either)- the most addicted to gambling of all the bros (this is sounding less like quirks and more like serious problems omg), favors horse races and pachinko- the “leader”, usually the one telling the others what to do (even if they rarely listen)- calls no one “niisan” since he’s the oldest - two hairs sticking out on top of his head

For no reason out of nowhere, I’m gonna ramble headcanons/how to combine the dub and sub into a better dub ideas for the second digimon movie, Hurricane Touchdown! Aka the one that was awkwardly stitched on as part of the first movie in english, aka ‘that one where lopmon is fuckin terrifying and also american’ (oh and I know its a nitpick, but to me it makes sense to call it the second movie instead of the third?? the greymon/parrotmon fight bit wasnt a ‘movie’, it was the pilot episode for Adventure in japan. its more like an ova I think, but i dunno if the company ever gave it an official status in the movie listings...)

ANYWAY WHATEVER WHERE WAS I oh yeah Bunni Really Liked This Dumb Movie And Wished It Was Its Own Season And Kinda Wants To Make A Dumb Rpgmaker Game Of It So, ideas!

* Well... couldnt it have worked as its own season...? One of the only flaws I can agree was a significant problem was that ‘willis steals the spotlight’, tho i dont really think thats totally bad since I liked him a lot more than the 02 protagonists. But yeah, honestly you could kinda have the same movie if all the 02 characters were written out, or if Willis met with literally any group of digidestined from any series, or even completely new ones. The dub made it worse by writing out all of the scenes with the Adventure digidestined, thus writing out the 02 kids’s entire motivation for the whole plot :P And i think honestly this plot could have been a whole season if it was stretched out, and if it had original characters replacing the 02 ones. It would be unique and odd to have our protagonist be a super loner sassy asshole tamer who outright refuses to team up with anyone, fearing they’d just get vanished away by this giant terrifying digimon that’s stalking him. If the backstory was revealed slowly throughout the season it could be a very good mystery to keep us all hooked! And if there were more scenes about the other kids breaking past willis’s shell and becoming a team, rather than just ‘davis cries a joke, suddenly everything is over’. plus there’d naturally be stuff to pad out the season length if we had to be introduced to these characters and give them all their own amount of screentime and development. Or, seriously, if this was just like... a longer movie, or a mini season like Tri... Maybe we could have had the 02 kids in it and not had them feel overshadowed and useless? Maybe everyone aside from Davis could get some screentime too :P

* Maybe it could be an excuse to show off all the armor and jogress digivolutions that this series canonically has yet never used? I think it was budget constraints or not enough time in the season or something, but there was a HUGE amount of unused designs for every potential combination of crests! And all they ever got was to be trading cards and occasionally enemies in miscellanous videogames. (Oh and Lynxmon got to be an enemy in Tamers and Frontier, probably cos its the one that looks coolest animated lol!) Oh and it was odd how Cyber Sleuth seemed to retcon some previously-unrelated digimon into the Imperialdramon of Silphymon. Now Valkyrmon is something Silphymon can digivolve into, and shares the same character model even. Odd! But man it would be cool if it did get officially added to the 02 version of the evo line!

* Potential for giving Yolei and Cody a bigger plot role in the whole thing, maybe Yolei is trying to research into the mystery digimon cos she’s the computer expert? they almost never let her actually do computer stuff compared to how much izzy got to do in the first season :P It could also help thread the plot together a bit! Like, have various scenes of the different kids finding out that the Adventure kids have gone missing in different ways- Yolei could be freaking out cos she cant contact izzy, maybe Cody had a study session with joe and arrived to find his entire house empty. And maybe have a lil plot of Yolei being like ‘oh god how can we do this without izzy’ and being able to prove herself and gain confidence instead of just living in his shadow. Also she’d just be useful in finding out stuff about mysterious dissappearances that happened in the past, via the internet, and maybe the gang could encounter willis in less of an accidental way and more like they were actively trying to track down wendigomon and THEN bump into him by accident? I dunno, just make them actually DO more. Do more to save their own damn friends. Not just the willis and davis road trip show where davis only exists to tell willis how to do various digivolution stuff :P

* I feel bad that my brain kinda defaults to calling him Willis, even though I still have no clue why they changed it from Wallace. ‘Hey this american name could be a different american name!’ I think its just stuck in my head cos i watched the dub version so much... So lol I dunno, smash them both into canon! Make him wallace but kokomon calls him willis since they’re this child-minded monster thing. (Could also keep calling terriermon gummymon and maybe even mistake the 02 kids for various people wallace used to know as a kid?)

* Dub-added stuff to keep and to toss out! I like the idea of Willis being the person izzy talked to on the internet in the previous movie. I dont like the idea that he somehow created diaboromon! You could write that out and still keep the scene, maybe even still have willis saying ‘its all my fault’ because he’s just recently lost his digimon partner to a mysterious virus and he thinks maybe the same thing is happening here/that kokomon is causing the chaos rather than diaboromon. Oh, and I like the idea of it being stated to be a virus corrupting a digimon, rather than just being... never explained wtf happened. A virus that’s the remnants of diaboromon would even make sense, though the continuity order in the dub kinda makes it impossible. (SO MANY PLOT HOLES lol)

* PLAYABLE FLASHBACKS YO and/or maybe an omake type epilogue thing after the ending like srsly give us a chance to play as willis with both his digimon and how not dead and not evil they are An epilogue would be good as a way to add some more fanon-y headcanons and ideas for what happened after kokomon came back. (or if he even did) I feel like a lot of people complain that the dub ‘changed too much’ by confirming that kokomon came back, and that somehow a happy ending is worse than an ambiguous bittersweet one. Which we didnt even have in the first place cos we saw kokomon’s digiegg in the sub anyway, even if we didnt see it hatching. BUT ANYWAY My idea for keeping that bittersweet element even if we have Happy Kokomon Is Alive Time! Its.... the dub! Or rather taking literally something that was actually just a shameless footage-chopping lazyness XD Cos the dub just showed kokomon in endigomon form in the added scene where he totally came back. Making it rather obvious even to kid-bunni that it was a dub edit, lol! BUT WHAT IF THAT! What if the bittersweet aspect is that kokomon is forever changed by the whole experience? Still having aftereffects of being corrupted, even though he isnt evil anymore. So his evolution line is still a super scary virusized one and he’s stuck unable to de-digivolve from champion level. So we could have funny/cute/sad scenes of Willis trying to live with this very large very destructive digimon, kinda like that one episode of tamers. How do I hide a seven foot tall cyborg rabbit man from my mom?? And it could also be bittersweet because kokomon’s spent so long frozen at the time when he was taken away, and now he has to cope with his two best friends having grown up without him. He’s still this childlike personality stuck in a scary body, even if he’s not dangerous anymore. And it could be very stressful for everyone involved, but also heartwarming! I mean imagine giant scary kokomon being all shy and holding his tiny big brother’s hand while crossing the street! Imagine him hugging willis and squishing him! XD So it could just be a short epilogue episode of willis and partners fighting some sort of villain of the week, and showing slice-of-life antics with them. Just establishing that their problems arent all over yet, but also that they’ll probably be strong enough to deal with it, after all they’ve managed to survive so far. And maybe some cute mini scenes of them still keeping in touch with the 02 kids as pen pals! And maybe even something like an emotional scene of willis finally introducing his digimon partners to his parents, after failing at keeping them secret? Itd be nice to see his parents tbh, i always wondered what they were like! (or does he have a single mother? since he was only talking about her during the movie)

* Random but: personality headcanons for terriermon and lopmon/kokomon! We honestly dont really get much of a personality for terriermon in this movie, he just seems like a sort of generic nice cute partner compared to the Tamers terriermon’s snarky personality. And, naturally, we dont really learn anything about kokomon’s real personality, considering the circumstances :P So! Headcanons! I always headcanoned kokomon as being a really sweet, kind and shy lil babbu before all this tragedy happened. Someone who always relied on his brother and his human friend, so being separated from them hit him extra hard. I feel like if terriermon was the one who was infected he would have had his eldritch horror take a very different form, whatever the virus is its something that feeds on the personal anxieties of the digimon it infected. Also, yeah, it’d just be cuter this way in my hypothetical epilogue fanfic ideas! Scaredy-cat wendigomon!! :3 And I kinda feel that maybe terriermon could stand out more from tamers-terriermon if he wasnt just the more level-headed equivelant, but if he was MORE OF THAT! Like... a more grumpy loner matt-type personality. After all the tragedy that happened to him ans willis he’s become quite toughened and determined to protect his tamer even though he’s too small to make an impact against his giant infected brother. And maybe like how willis has stopped having human friends, terriermon has become more cold too, and they could perhaps have more conflicts together because of it? And like.. the reason terriermon never digivolved to champion could be because of this rift between them, rather than just ‘literally the only reason the 02 kids are here is so that they can tell willis how to use his digivice’. Like seriously HOW DID GUMMYMON DIGIVOLVE TO TERRIERMON THEN?? Plus it’d just have more dynamic to their friendship and flesh the story out more. It could prove how absolutely fire-forged their friendship is, that these two grumpy sassmasters that even sass at each other still care so deeply even if they suck at showing it. Also the idea of a badass tiny terriermon is just aweome to me. Imagine him with a cape flowing in the wind, and sunglasses at night, and then imagine someone who feels like that even when theyre not wearing them. Thats how movie-terriermon always felt to me during the scenes of him fighting wendigomon! And I cheered a whole load at him digivolving and being able to fight toe-to-toe with wendigomon in the BEST FIGHT SCENE IN THE SERIES with the running up walls and GUN PUNCH TO THE FACE and just EVERYTHINGGGG the animation in this movie was too strong
