I was gonna make this post way way earlier but I forgot lol but Uhm

I have played through the splatoon 2 story fully and am replaying it (for a future post bc a lot of the dialogue is rlly funny) and honestly while I absolutely loved it it makes me even sadder that splat 2’s story mode was kinda tossed aside (for valid reasons ofc) because it’s so Cool.

Excluding the gameplay, I think they did marie so well, because she sells the desperation of someone who’s got nobody she knows by her side. While she of course keeps the sassy attitude of sneak dissing her best friends (agent 3) and also telekinetically telling you to fuck off if you talk to her too much it’s very clear she genuinely cares so much about agent 4 and is so grateful they’re doing what they do.

these are only two screenshots of 8(?) of Marie randomly being really sentimental to 4 because this stranger chose to help her in her time of need rather than just ignore this GROWN WOMAN hanging out on a sewer drain

It’s like heavily emphasized multiple times that Marie could not be more grateful for 4’s help in retrieving not just the zapfish but also her cousin.

But then revealing that 4 knew about Callie the WHOLE TIME (I have a lot to say about this part but it’s mostly hc so) which is so KIND OF THEM???? this random woman recruits them into a secret military agency and hides the fact she rlly misses her cousin but they help anyway bc they WANT TO. (They didn’t even know either of them were famous btw) Marie shows a lot of gratitude toward 4 ESPECIALLY after the big reveal.

(You could make arguments for 3 being similar bc an old kook made them do it but this isn’t about them..)

And it’s not just being grateful for the one time, she genuinely enjoys 4’s company and wants to be better friends with them and chat after the zapfish and Callie are saved 😭😭😭

It’s so cute too, because 100%ing the game and even just being a little nosy is something that Marie picks up on, and remembers way later in the game. (More abt this later)

god I love this socially inept squid woman and her adopted child soldier that likes finding pieces of paper

Speaking of said soldier! I think the way they characterized 4 via the actual gameplay rather than art/statements/whatever is so cool

4 doesn’t have many illustrations besides the chaos splatfest and that one group photo where they’re being funky in the corner (and the apartment) but I feel like the reason for that is the fact that a lot of Marie’s dialogue as well as how splatoon 2’s hero mode is structured/designed speaks a lot about how they wanted to represent 4.

From a realistic standpoint, of course splatoon 2’s story mode has to be more creative both prompt wise and secret wise. But it feels like the reason its that way is because both 4 and Marie are separate types of people from Craig and 3.

The bosses help a lot with this too, being more gimmicky and weird (subtracting stamp.) Octo shower and samurai being bosses where you have to either react well or change your positioning to effectively beat them. (Octo shower is my fave btw I loved fighting it the first time)

The level design also shines in this aspect because if I’m honest I remember none of the splat 1 levels significantly besides the few octoling ones. Splatoon 2’s levels are very detailed (and also insanely pretty) and have some rlly fun puzzles in a handful of them and even the more fast ones are a blast to play through

And then all the little extras (sardiniums and scrolls alike) are hidden so well and you usually have to go out of your way to find them and even the secrets that aren’t either of those things have substance

Small note, a lot of extras are also made so that it flows well with the levels design (like the first dualie request mission) which is also extremely fucking cool.

the way marie touches on those little discoveries is so smart too because it (as I said before) characterizes 4 as someone who loves to look for things even if it’s on a whim especially since the sunken scrolls in the game are so much harder to find than in splat1.

And the fact that unlike splat 1, you can (technically) 800% the game by playing EVERY SINGLE LEVEL WITH EVER SINGLE WEAPON TYPE. to me it feels like it deepens the fact that 4 likes to be really thorough. marie goes “you have a problem.” When you break like two hidden egg crates in this one level and it’s so great.

I love what they’ve done with 4, whether it was intentional or I’m over-analytical.

Nothing gets past them, looking in every nook and cranny whether or not there’s secrets to be found. They’re too nosy and thorough and they like to be around marie after completing missions, they don’t know who the squid sisters are, hate balloons, may or may not be ok, have impulsive secret finding, partake in many extracurriculars, can be needy at times, go with the flow and they apparently smell better than agent 3.

Actually not much!!! I haven’t thought a lot about headcanons, but I have about ships.. 😭

Although I’ve posted ? like ONCE. About it before but Shigaraki is a HUGE gamer nerd. He also enjoys splatoon & fortnite (Only when playing with spinner and toga obviously) He hates playing those games by himself because he finds it boring.

He’s too good at the games too. He plays alone but he’s been playing long enough to where he can (Thinking about fortnite) play similar to pro players, such as building n aiming n all that. Spinner is his duo btw they play like every other day.

Also I feel like shigaraki sometimes streams when he plays with spinner or alone. He’ll be muted and not have a face cam, but he’ll unmute himself rarely. He does it to make sure nobody knows it’s him (despite how much he’d like the attention and the fact he has only like 20 or 50 viewers LMAAAOO) The rare occasions are just random times but he mostly unmutes when he’s with spinner.

I mentioned toga up there, and just wanted to say she DEFINITELY loves playing roblox and splatoon. She’s all into octolings. (She has ochako added on roblox without ochako knowing its even her 😭😭😭 i love them)

Anyway, Shigaraki also probably has the most greasy hair ever. I just KNOW that bar aint have a correctly working shower 💀 That or its too hot / cold. Shigaraki likes cold showers btw, helps him with his itch.

AGAIN TALKINF ABT SPINNER AND SHIGARAKI CUZ I CANT KEEP MY MIND OFF OF THEM, Spinner and shigaraki are that typa “we dont care about the game, we just wanna have fun” duo 😭 They’ll lock in at times, but otherwise they’re causing chaos. They squidbag people in splatoon and run away from them or hide in ridiculous areas and stalk other players.. They definitely match as that stupid fucking fish outfit. The definition of “those splatoon players..”

AND IN FORTNITE THEYRE WORSE. Spinner is more of the talker, while shigaraki is the do-er, if that makes sense!! Shigaraki would box some poor player in and spinner would laugh and make fun of them 😭… They’d chase people in the cars or kill others in SUCH A DISRESPECTFUL WAY… Shigaraki definitely emotes on people after he knocks them, especially if they were good.

Dabi sometimes joins in when bored and bullies the both of them, but hes not as good as them at any of the games 😭 He’ll say something stupid and shigaraki would reply w a 200 pump LOL. They rarely play trios because dabi isnt much of a gamer and couldn’t care less.

ok so this is based on friendship is magic bc that's the only one I've seen and it's like... if the mane six were in splatoon? specifically splatoon 3 bc that's the one I had on my mind lol anyways. freshness is magic

Twilight is an octarian soldier (like, the only one left for some reason) sent by Octavio to investigate the Splatlands about the disappearances of the other Octarians while he says he "won't be too far behind" (foreshadowing)

on the way there she meets spike. he's the "little buddy" smallfry of this. no he will not tell her what spike is short for or why he was in the middle of the desert when he met her

Oh yeah and only twilight can understand him bc she speaks salmonid. he just sounds like gurgles to the rest of the gang

twilight gets a transmission from Octavio basically telling her to go to Splatsville specifically, "blend in, make friends, keep a low profile, whatever"

just outside of splatsville they run into fluttershy (her name is probably different but I can't think of a good one so she's just fluttershy for now). she's a sea slug (kinda like flow) bc look at this image.

it's literally just her. come on

she's heading into town too and it basically goes like the show where she's like "omg is that a salmonid... wowie......."

MEANWHILE in Splatsville:

Pinkie (inkling), Dash (octoling who grew up in the Splatlands), and Jack (inkling) are all friends but they're in a bit of a pickle. they wanna do turf wars but they need a 4th person and the random people they keep getting matched with just don't vibe very well :(

enter twilight. (and fluttershy) (and spike)

Pinkie goes "GAAAAASP HEY HEY WANNA JOIN OUR TURF WAR TEAM"

at first twilight's like "Ugh no" but then spike is like "heyyyyy part of your missionnnn was making friiiiiends rememeberrrrr?"

so she joins the team. fine sure whatever I'm not gonna get attached (she gets attached)

Twilight is a charger main. e-liter menace

Dash is a dualies main because of course

Pinkie is good with all weapons tbh but her favorites are rollers and blasters

Jack mains N-Zap 64 and she is a tacticooler mvp

At one point they're like "Hey twi love the military drip but like you gotta get some drip"

enter rarity. i don't really have a clear mental image of her yet but she is crab. probably hermit crab? tamatoa ass back I know that for sure

she moved to the splatlands from Inkopolis and started a boutique there

she's a brush main btw "hey Earnest you dipshit only inklings and octolings do turf war" nuh uh big man canonically plays turf war AND salmon run so there

(fluttershy doesn't like doing turf war and doesn't have a main for obvious reasons) (but she does cheer them on) (spike does too bc he's not allowed in the Turf War building :( )

anyways. twilight and the gang are now besties. enter cuttlefish.

Dash: hey is it just me or is that old guy staring at us from the sewers

Pinkie: I'm gonna go follow him lol

this action has consequences.

they're all agent 3 now (3.1-3.7) but cuttlefish only has one set of hero gear. "sorry guys you're all shit out of luck" (of course twilight gets it bc protag disorder) and rarity's all "well Fine I can make hero gear for the rest of us"

crater proceeds as normal with twilight, pinkie, dash, and jack each taking one level. twilight is... *unnerved* by the current status of the octarian troops

enter octavio. hes fucking pissed. this is his natural state of being tho

he calls out twilight for being a TRAITOR and she feels bad blah blah blah they kick his ass

again it proceeds as normal but when twilight wakes up. she's alone (except for spike). as it turns out all of her besties landed on different islands somehow bc this might as well happen

Twilight is island 1, jack is island 2, pinkie is island 3, fluttershy is island 4, dash is island 5, and rarity is island 6 working on everyone's agent outfits all along so they got their group swag by the end of it

again story is pretty much the same from there. kill that bear

and so the world is saved with the power of friendship :)

unfortunately celestia and luna don't really exist by virtue of octavio kind of taking celestia's role? rip queens we loved you so much but you were replaced by old men unfortunately. sad

how did the splat2 campaign go for alex/how'd she get picked up as an agent in the first place? assuming you haven't answered something like this yet i mean. thank you for squidposting btw it makes my day

OK! so like. alex had already been living in inkopolis for abouuut a year or so yeah. Worked at some store. was doing the manager's job at this point even though she sure as hell didnt have the manager's pay.. she let sooo many people steal tho. Anyway. Spends the rest of her time. Being online, drawing n posting dumb shit on her socials, Turfin babey !!! got to keep that x rank!! Checking out new speedcore releases at the music shop. Living in an absolute mess of an apartment cus hey whos going to ever see it *eight moves in almost immediately post octo ex* uh oh.

One day shes late asf to work so she runs but she catches sight of marie and shes like "yo whats up with that mysterious looking lady is she lost🤔 ill go help her i guess". Anyway blablabla balblabla marie is like " help me pls wow clueless looking much" blablbalbla marie is shocked that alex has 0 clue on who she is lol... like you have internet no ?? "Yes but i only look at cool stuff !" Oh uh ok...

Anyway with the new found responsibility of being An Agent alex dedicates her whole time to it. Which made her very very fired cus she legit didnt do anything but missions etc. She slept in the cabin lol

She didnt really become friends with marie like she hoped to bc marie , ultimately was too worried about the situation at hand. Not the same sense of humor made it a bit difficult, alex had trouble understanding when marie said something sincere or not 2.alex was mostly agent 4 the tool to fix the problem at hand rather than. Funny girl alex who is nice and a being.

Also alex answered to some of marie s thoughts sometimes like the "i wonder if agent four has a lot of friends" she thought these out loud

Alex s answer: a bit weird to ask but no i do not!

Also eventually alex had to mute marie . Funny sometimes but like too distracting .esp w bosses... unless she needs advice or to talk abt smth then she unmutes

Also marie had to patch up alex's agent jacket cus. Way too small so she used some of her old tshirts for that cus no way shed bother buying another jacket.

The campaign went sort of almost like the canon one id say...

There was one mission were the spawn points stopped working so she had to . Not get splatted cus otherwise uhhh. It be a bit of a Problem. Quite stressful

Alex wanted to leave the squidbeak splatoon after splat2 story mode but then ripley and eight showed up eventually and it switched to "oh shit new buddies !?!?"
