Tagged by @thatblondeperson which means..oh god. My terrible music taste. Oh boy. I’ll link to (f)mv’s which I either have been watching on repeat with the song or the music video, whichever I’ve been watching more of and my favourite lyrics in italics.

Rules are: list ten songs you’ve been listening to a lot lately and tag ten people (i’m sorry).

1) Last Hurrah - Bebe Rexa. Oh my god. Oh my god. I love this song. I know it’s actually about eating a hunk of chocolate cake but I in general love Bebe’s self destructive ooft this isn’t good for me and yet here I am songs and this one is annoyingly short but also my fave. Last hurrah I won’t stop until I go too far Last hurrah but it’s okay maybe tomorrow I won’t feel this pain

2) Dumb Litty - Kard. I lost my mind at Jiwoo as Athena. Wearing a golden crown with a big sword and then that red outfit OOOft. RIP Abbie. Also We go Dumb? ABSOLUTELY with this one lads.

3) Twit - Hwasa. Calling out martyrdom in a relationship, first at the boy for allowing himself to be treated in that manner and then at yourself for being so dysfunctional. It’s been so long that I’ve heard twit used as a genuine insult and the line I’m the bitch who made you sick and Hwasa’s vocals...mmm. Yup. Good song.

4) Antisocial - Ed Sheeran and Travis Scott. (What the actual hell is that music video) purely because of the chorus. Don't touch me, I came to vibe on something, I wanna riot, don't touch me, I came to vibe, won't let nothing come in between me and the night

5) Chica - Chung Ha. My most loved song of 2019 and I still love it because it’s self esteem in a happy song about trying and doing and yeah you’ll fuck up sometimes and get overwhelmed but keep going. I listened to this non stop on the beach last summer. It doesn’t matter how many times you fall so long as you try.

6) All for Us - Zendaya and Labrinth. I mean...c’mon. Being under intense amount of pressure from a broken family and cracking under it all and being so desperate for affection you get a bizarre understanding of what love is where you get it and what you have to do for it. Just for your love, yeah, I'll give you the world, Mona Lisa's smile. Hey, Hell, I'll do twenty-five to life, if it makes me your king, a star in your eyes.

7) Aristocrat - Poppy. Look I don’t know what goes on in this girls head but... songs are catchy dude. They never even know that I got here from the gutter. C’mon and do it like only a poor kid can.

8) Noir - Sunmi. She is so flipping good. Authenticity which gets filtered out of life and all that is left is depression and doing more and more extreme things to feel something. I love how she takes traditional femininity and then shows how performative it can be and it makes it off kilter and weird and wrong and she will stare you dead in the eye whilst she shoots herself in the head but be sure to like and subscribe guys. It’s all bullshit.

9) Come Back To Us - Thomas Newman. No lyrics here just a the main theme from 1917 and a song about a very broken man who bought 1600 men a few more weeks at most. Hopeful but intensely miserable. He will not return to his family the way he left.

10) Doom Days - Bastille. We’ll be the proud remainers, here til the morning breaks us. Man the world is fucked ain’t it? I love Dan’s voice. Good lad he is.

I realise most of these songs are about dysfunctional people and their dysfunctional relationships... make of that what you will. I like melodrama.

15 kpop songs released in the first quarter of 2019

Unlike last year I’ve been procastinating a lot when it comes to this blog. Since I didn’t do it monthly I thought I should share what I thought it was the kpop stand outs for the first quarter of this year.

1. Taemin-WANT. This disco-pop song was for me the highlight of february in kpop. It goes so well with Taemin’s vocals and performance style. His mini album is a must listen.

2. iKON- I'm ok. This song was released in early January and has a really simple beat and an interesting melody. Hanbin’s vocals and rapping really stands out in this song. The lyrics are relatable.

3. Epik High ft Crush-Lovedrunk. Amazing quality MV starring IU. As usual with Epik High the lyrics are so good. The song is about parting ways with someone. Crush's voice provides the melody. The album sleepless in is so good. In Seoul and Eternal Sunshine are the highlights for me.

4. Park Bom ft. Sandara Park-Spring. This marked the comeback of Park Bom and she did it with a dramatic ballad which I actually was not expecting although maybe I should’ve. The song is pretty and of course Park Bom’s vocals have always been on point. I wish Sandara Park’s part was a bit stronger but I guess since it was Park Bom’s release it makes sense it wasn’t.

5. 10cm_however. As always 10cm’s vocalist really destroyed me with his high notes. The song talks about being unable to forget someone.

6. Sungwoon-Bird. This song is nice and for me Sungwoon's voice was the highlight of Wanna One so I did enjoyed it. I felt it was something I already heard tho. The video is very reminescent of Zico's quorky style. I guess that aesthetic has become popular between former Wanna One members since Jisung did something similar as well.

7. Jang Jane-EunbongGyo. I can't even get my head around the fact this MV has so little views when the song is just amazing. Even though the instrumental is very simple, Jang Jane makes sure the melody and her unique vocals make this quite a dynamic song. The way she bends her voice on this one reminds me a bit of canadian folk singer Joni Mitchell.

8. TXT-Crown. For me this new group is like another NCT dream. The song is fun for sure but it does sound like a lot of songs in kpop so even if I liked the song I'll probably not be adding it to my kpop playlist.

9. Colde-Loss. Colde released this song through SM’s STATION and it’s just so relaxing even if the lyrics are bittersweet.

10. Hwasa-Twit. I really like Mamamoo but somehow I hadn’t been a huge fan of Hwasa’s solo stuff until now. This song is such a bop. I really like how strong the MV and the lyrics are. Something different is always welcomed in kpop.

11. Taeyeon-Four seasons. This song has such a nice vibe even if it’s a break up song. Love that Taeyeon did something a bit different from what she’s done lately and as expected her vocals are so nice.

12. Heize-She's fine. This song is just so groovy and cool. Heize came back with a full album and it’s definitely another must listen. She just seems to do no wrong from the strong title Dispatch to the quorky No Reason there’s no bad tune on her album. She also collabed with several artists: Simon Dominic, Colde, sunwoojunga, Davii, Naftla and Jooyoung.

13. KARD-Bomb Bomb. It's just a bop. A different vibe than what they've done in the past, more electronic.

14. Sohlhee ft. Taeil-Purple. Solhee debuted with this collab with NCT's Taeil. Honestly I checked it out only because it was on the SMTOWN youtube channel and I'm so glad I did because it's so good. The playful piano and strong beat really set the tone from the beginning and it makes an statement. It does remind a bit of something Heize would do but I can definitely see it is its own thing. Taeil lends his beautiful vocals to make this even more interesting.

15. Mia ft. PENOMECO- Dear. I found about Mia watching Breakers and I really liked her voice. This song is such a great listen, very chill and Penomeco lends his vocals to give this ballad a twist with a really interesting beat a break from Mia's vulnerable tone. Just like with Jang Jane’s MV I wish this one had more views. It’s so my kind of thing.

P.S. I just posted this 10 minutes ago and realized I totally forgot Sunmi’s Noir, how did I even managed to forget that one? Anyway it’s a really interesting song about social media. Check DKDKTV’s explenation it’s really interesting for non-korean speakers.
