The fact that Vanessa is clearly terrified of her father but still showed up to help and even fired a shot at him is some powerful shit. That small whimper of "dad' and William's stunned expression almost as if he hasn't fully registered he just drove a knife through his daughter. I swear to God Elizabeth Lail and Matthew Lillard nailed that scene so magnificently.

THIS. THIS SCENE RIGHT HERE IS WHAT BREAKS ME
Willy watches as he reunites one of his closest friends with her mother. He’s finally shared chocolate to the world, able to say farewell to his own mother. But he’s still not magically over his own grief, all he wants still to have what he managed to give to noodle

After watching Nimona I've been in love with it but I've never seen anyone talk about the fact that the eye shines are different shapes?? Like from what I've seen Ballister has square eye shines, Ambrosius has diamond ones and the squire has hexagons. Its such a small detail but I love it so much

Can we talk about the significance of pictures in Top Gun: Maverick please?
Each of the photos (old and new) has so much story and emotion attached to it and I love how they used them to convey the characters’ thoughts and feelings so clearly but without words (like how Mav’s garage is so full of photographs because he has trouble letting go of the past, how he sadly stares at Rooster’s Navy portraits and we viewers know exactly where we’re at, or at the end when Rooster fist bumps Goose’s photo in the garage). Such an elegant and effective way of showing so much with so little.
First, take the old nostalgia pic: Mav and Ice’s graduation portrait. Used so many times (wall of Top Gun, Ice’s house, Mav’s garage) and for good reason - they’re so young and joyful, and it reminds us of how their relationship in TG1, even if it started off rocky, undeniably ended on a good note.
After that comes the current photo of Ice as Admiral, visibly older and more serious, but also obviously more distinguished in the Navy. Mav and Ice probably chose different paths pretty early on but they still stayed in close contact.
Then we have all of Mav’s old photos with Goose. It’s been 30 years and he’s still not over it. God, he loved flying with you Maverick indeed, and that was true in both directions. No other wingman came close after Goose.
The love and sense of family Mav had for Goose naturally extended to his wife and son as well, and the picture of Goose with Carole and baby Bradley absolutely confirms that - they were Mav’s family after Goose died and they definitely stayed very close.
That baseball hat pic was the last photo Mav had of Bradley that was more personal, and Bradley looks pretty young here. From then on, all he had were his official Navy portraits that let us know that he still cared and tried to stay caught up with the boy’s life, even if they stopped talking directly somewhere along the way.
And the best for last: Mav and Rooster’s post-mission reunion photo, a direct parallel to Mav and Ice’s pic from the end of the first movie, and my absolute favourite. The boys are back together, overjoyed that they survived the mission but also that they found a way to get past their issues and become family again. No more words needed, just look at them.
+ Thank you @pohjanneito for the photos!
