Wow.

I can't leave to enjoy a few days vacation without the world falling apart?

Hybe vs. Min HeeJin. Not on anyone's bingo card this year. I have not caught up on everything but who tipped off Hybe about her dastardly plans? The timing of it all... and her little extemporaneous skit she did for a press conference was perhaps part of her plan to turn public opinion in her favor? She claims to have invented kpop or at least made it what it is today but out the other side of her mouth says she hates idol culture?

Hybe's not here to play, they will not be nice. I see no benefit to her for showing us the not so pretty side of the idol industry. Maybe that's her problem, she can't see what she's doing because she's too far into it. Thirty years in the business will make you lose your objectivity. She has no idea she is coming across as a greedy, spoiled, entitled, manipulative, narcissistic, emotional female in a male dominated industry. Basically a nut case.

The lady had a tremendous opportunity to perhaps take ownership of her company in due time, become a great example for female leadership in a country where corporate culture is steeped in chaebolism. Instead she squandered that and thinks she will come out on top. Did she miss the Hybe vs. SM Entertainment episode from last year?

In other news. I went to Las Vegas. This is what I saw:

The Bellagio Fountains. They're huge. The Bellagio is SWANK. I looked for Jimin in Dior and Tiffany, Hobi in the Louis Vuitton store, Namjoon in the Bottega Veneta store, but none of them were in there. There was no Calvin Klein store.

When Hobi, JK and Tae were there watching the fountains dance to Dynamite, they were standing here:

Passed by Allegiant Stadium a few times. It's huge.

Drove out to Seven Magic Mountains. I am happy to report the lowest boulders had no writing or graffiti. They were amazingly huge as you can see.

Went to AREA 15 and it was HUGE and amazing! It's impossible to show everything that its about, there are multiple buildings and installations and activities, gift shops, bars, etc. We went into the Omega Mart (mega art) experience which led to a maze of fantastically created chambers, each different from the last one, all pulsing with animated lights, texture walls, ceilings and floors.

And ate at Hobak Korean BBQ. We couldn't find out which tables the members of BTS sat at but I got a pic of the Butter album they all signed. There were other autographs from other famous Korean celebs but the BTS signatures were displayed in a more prominent place on the wall.

We also scoped out The Sphere. Also HUGE. The concert space is arena sized. I don't know who was playing there that night but the parking lot was filling up.

We also walked the Strip.

The Fremont Street Experience. That's an animated video screen overhead with ziplines running through the length of it. It's two blocks of casinos, restaurants and gift shops. People are also doing busking and shows at street level.

Hoover Dam, view of the dam from the highway bridge and view of the highway bridge from the dam. Spent a few minutes on the Arizona side.

Hiked in the desert. Saw cactus and wildlife. Drank a lot of water.

Drove to the Mojave Desert Preserve in California just to say we did.

We hated leaving. It was a fun trip. But damn, I have so much stuff to catch up on now. Hiatus my ass.

If Vegas is on the BTS comeback tour I promise I will be there this time.

We gambled at the airport on our way out. The slot machines were next to our gate. And in the baggage claim area. But as you can see, its not just about gambling there.

In case you didn't get it, everything in Vegas is HUUUGGE and FARRRR. Walk a lot, spend a lot of money.

Overall, Las Vegas was clean, the people were extremely friendly and welcoming of course, they might be teaching hospitality as a school subject there, I don't know.

Hotter than everyone seems to think, take 2: this might just be that I haven't sought out a ton of fic about Calamity but it remains my personal belief that while the Coramar-Seelies are in their divorced era and Cerrit's paralleling Laerryn in his single-minded focus on work to the point his wife left him and Zerxus is in mourning and spiralling and Patia focused on her work so hard she didn't even make it to Laerryn or Cerrit's married stage, Nydas Okiro is almost certainly the most desired man in Avalir and the lynchpin in like, three or perhaps seven loose polycules. Like the entire Ring of Brass is all hot people but we need to talk about how Nydas is the full package.

Which character is not as hot as everyone else seems to think, take 2: I made a post relatively early on in C3 just being amused that Marisha played two extremely hot characters whose charisma scores didn't crack 12 in the past campaigns and now, playing an actively decaying dead woman, she's charisma based, and a lot of people were like "Laudna's hot though" and look, hotness is subjective, your kink is not my kink and that's okay but the traits of Laudna's specific Hollow One scenario (deathly pale, cold to the touch, hair and nails sometimes falling off especially) are really off-putting to me and yeah man I gotta admit it's kind of weird how many people don't find that a turn off. She might have been lovely in her original life! But I'm not attracted to the corpse-like aesthetic, which Marisha actively leans into (deliberately! it's a valid choice! It's really unsexy to me! This is fine because characters do not need to be sexy and issues I have with Laudna are not related to not finding her sexy; I also don't personally find Caduceus sexy and I think he's a great character) and again, if you are, cool, but also, I think a lot of people are conflating the realities of the character with their personal perception of Marisha, who does not look like Laudna at all.

I have a big google doc thing where I keep track of media and stuff (putting everything in loosely ranked categories), which is mostly just for my own reference so I know what tv shows I've already seen before, etc. and I never really look back through it, typically just a quick "okay, watched two movie in the past 8 months, need to quickly slap them somewhere in the lists. okay. done. save document. exit". But today I was actually reading through some of the old notes and there are like... MULTIPLE places where my comment is basically "It would have been good if it were about elves" or "I wish there was a fantasy show made in this same style" or "It's well made, but I just keep thinking about how I would like it more if everyone was an elf or was in old 1700s costumes" or etc like...... lol.... Most biased media ranking system on earth blatantly made by someone with an extremely hyperspecific range of narrow interests. It'd be like if a food reviewer only had 5 foods they actually liked, so they'd just go to a pizza place and be like "eh, the pizza was okay, but I just think it would be better if it was cereal instead. :/ ...2 out of 10"

I'm sorry I need to be a hater for a second though it goes against my nature but hh has some of the absolute worst character and scenery design I have ever seen in my entire life and you have been tricked into thinking it is cool because it uses bright colours and bombastic shapes to cover the fact it's actually boring.

It's not bland, but it is boring.

Every single screenshot or gif I have seen makes me go crosseye'd, the characters blur into the background because there is no fucking proper saturation difference. I thought the new white and red cheeked character was literally just the first character but with a haircut and style change. Every single character has a copy-pasted shape there is no actual variation in body type or face shape outside of superficial changes. You have Triangle or Triangle with Tits.

You would have to tie me down clockwork orange style to get me to actually watch it. Maybe the story is good and the characters are cool or whatever! I don't know! I haven't watched it and you can't make me!

The characters apparently have aesthetics and theming but I honestly couldn't tell you what it was because there is so much going on in the designs that it's impossible to tell. One of the first rules of character design is that you should be able to get a feel for a character from the silhouette alone! But you can't do that here because their silhouette's are all so similar! The shape language for everyone is the fucking same! It's infuriating!!

I understand stylisation and personal choice but if you cannot draw diverse designs because it doesn't fit "your style" it is your failing as an artist and you are putting a limitation on yourself, it's like shooting your own foot!

I honestly think V would benefit from going back to basics and re-learning figure drawing and colour theory but from everything I've heard she can't handle any form of constructive criticism, which is once again like shooting yourself in the foot. Artists need to be able to take criticism and advice from other artists in order to grow, an artist that believes themselves above criticism is incapable of growth and will stagnate.

If you are an artist and have gotten this far I am begging you, remember to practice your silhouettes and don't blow off colour theory. Please... please learn about values [colour edition] if you don't your art will become a muddy messy and unless that is what you're going for you really don't want it to be like that

i got to thinking again about an aspect of a book which had troubled me, and which remains the pea in the otherwise heaped-high bed of my enjoyment,* and decided to actually investigate a question i'd originally posed only rhetorically, namely: had any of my fellow tumblrinxs voiced similar objections? having gone back through the main tag with some care, i now feel reasonably confident saying that (1) no, they did not, and in fact (2) very, very few people who posted about the book in a searchable way expressed anything other than squee. which—entirely possible all critical discussion has been relegated to the fan discord that apparently exists, which would be depressing; but the alternative is that it's not happening at all, which would be even worse. has a fannish mode of (un)critical engagement been so thoroughly drummed into readers that even when they're reading original, professional fiction, they still feel compelled not to say anything at all, if what they have to say isn't wholly, insipidly Nice?

like, i fully understand, and have ultimately been convinced by, the arguments as to why it's generally inappropriate to post unsolicited critique of identifiable fanworks in spaces where their authors might potentially stumble on said critique and be wounded by it; but if we're getting to a point—or maybe we arrived there ages ago, and i'm only just noticing—where some combination of fannish training and authorial mingling on social media is discouraging public debate about even professional work... oof. i'd love to have ready an eloquent defense of the importance of unfettered public reaction to, and thoughtful analysis of, art, but it's late and i'm tired and honestly all i've got rn is: fml. f all of our increasingly-milquetoast ls, tbh.

That is a good question anon.

If they do, it is not for fear of judgement in my opinion. The sexual openness of the entirety of adults in the junkyard would mean most things would not get a negative reception. Plus, I do not think any of the queens have a kink or fetish that could be deemed taboo or proverbially extreme in any capacity.

Reagardless, please see a non-exhaustive post about what sort of kinks the queens have, and one about things they would want to try for some information that correlates. Even with these, there is still so much information in the hundreds of posts on the blog before or since those linked posts that could apply too, but they are more or less the best immediate resource.

If they are keeping a kink closely held, perhaps they are merely waiting for an opportune time to bring it up as a suggestion with their partner. Relationships and sex are always developing and progressing, so something that would have seemed further off can always become an option down the road. Introducing small tastes of a kink works to slowly allow for a queen go all out with them too.

I think most of what is related to specific kinks the queens are still hush about would be tied to things they want to explore in the future, whether they get to or not. With some of these, they would eventually profess their desire, so it would not be a secret anymore. That is a best case scenario in my opinion. They get to dream and then reap the rewards when it comes to fruition.

Though, it is of course possible that whatever specific kink they have will never be divulged. Sometimes holding onto something is the best way to foster or explore it, particularly from a personal standpoint. Maybe another person would not quite have the same perspective of how a kink should be done. That would certainly lead to disappointment.

Anyway, let us discuss what kinks are locked away for the future or forever. Here it is by queen, so lend an ear:

Vic is not wildly kinky at all, and much of what she would want to explore is so vanilla that she has done it with Plato when they experiment with new positions or something. Hey about your cartoon vs Real life Animals post, can you elaborate on the lenght of frog tongues? This is the one that shocked me, i study in a Field closely related to zoology and never heard that their tongues are human-like short, unless you were trying to make a point about their shape and not lenght, then Please disregard my inquiry :p

When I say their tongues are "more human-like" than chameleon-like, I mean, this is a chameleon's tongue:

And this is a frog's tongue:

A chameleon has an astonishingly long, thin tongue that launches like a grappling hook, and almost all media thinks this is also true of frogs and toads.

The tongues of frogs and toads DO come out farther than ours, especially because they attach at the front of their mouth, rather than the back, and "flip" outward to grab prey:

But yes, between the two, their tongues are nowhere near like those of chameleons, but broad and flat like ours. The very farthest they can stretch is like this:

When you google frog or toad tongues, unfortunately, you get many more fakes than the real thing, to the point that even science articles have been known to use them

And, the first time I ever posted about this subject, someone retrieved exactly this fake photo to try and prove that I was making all this up. Frogs have never done this! Cartoons simply exaggerated it for fun at first, and then I guess confusion with chameleon tongues lead people to believe they worked similarly!

It's such a pervasive misunderstanding that I didn't know about until my teens, and I was a biology nerd well before that too. It felt like a betrayal. I was never made to believe in Santa Claus but finding out frogs Don't Do That felt how I imagine that feels. Frog tongues were my Santa Isn't Real moment.

But, frog tongues are in my opinion just as interesting as chameleon tongues. Besides the weird flip-out structure they are extremely adhesive and also so soft and membranous that they practically "shrink wrap" to the prey! Terrifying!!! Getting got by a giant frog would be like getting wrapped up in a giant stretchy sheet of cellophane covered in glue!
