#thinking of that fight where gon and killua and kite are each fighting ants and killuas ant thinks hes won

hxh is really like the best anime of all time
#nerd alert#the vast variety of character designs#the personalities....the dynamics.....#we're just about to wrap up the chimera ants arc and like. ok its going excruciatingly slow#the last idk 4 episodes or so have spanned literally like 20 seconds of action. its actually kinda painful#but the narration is actually really well written and valuable i think. knowing what exactly these characters are feeling and thinking#in what would be a very fast-paced and intense situation is really interesting#kinda makes me think that this arc wouldve made a pretty good novel at points#though there are some shots that would be difficult to describe in words with the same impact#thinking of that fight where gon and killua and kite are each fighting ants and killuas ant thinks hes won#so he looks over to watch gon and then suddenly the camera flips upside down bc killua broke his fucking neck#shit like that is so cool tbh. the cinnamon topography#and im glad that they picked it up more in this part bc tbh? we watched a bit of the 2011 version instead of the original#during the auction arc and it felt like such a severe downgrade#the original was so fucking good!! the artstyle felt a lot nicer and the way everything was presented was really cool#so when we watched part of the auction arc in the remake it was like. well. its telling the story but everything feels...#the way i think of it is 'all polish and no soul'#the lines and colors were oh so clean. but design-wise the characters felt...more cookie-cutter and simplified (in a bad way)#the color palettes werent cohesive it felt like everything in a well-lit shot was under bright flourescent lights. too stark and pale#the exposition was lengthier and felt heavy-handed. a lot of telling over showing#but the chimera ant arc has been a LOT better i think#plus no matter what i will always appreciate the massive amount of diversity in character designs#not just in the ants but the humans too#people with different face shapes and eye shapes and styles and different NOSE SHAPES#a few of the designs ... havent aged well. but most of them are pretty cool#(and a couple were fixed a bit in the remake. not all tho! that one girl with kites crew needed some DRASTIC work done that was not!!)

Yandere!Brother!Killua X Sister!Reader
Tw ; literally gore, yandere shit, Spoilers for Season 5 & maybe season 6 (mentions of alluka.)
this is fully Platonic relationship between killua and reader, i will not add romanticism in any of my stories/one-shots of where its siblings.
You didn’t even know what could off happened, you were just following Killua and Gon and their new friend kite, well you think new friend into the NGL. you really didn’t get why they were fighting these creatures yet you didn’t mind, it was fun watching. You get to learn kite’s ability and Kite seemed fun as well! You watched Killua and Gon fight, maybe or not admiring them as they fought.. but it was fun watching them and fighting them yourself as well! Well kinda fighting them, it seemed like Killua kept complaining about it sorta and he seemed a bit pissed off at anything that actually put a hand to you really which honestly seemed weird to you but you didn’t question it as he was your brother! You wouldnt dare question your brother..
The cool new scythe weapon that kite could spawn was cool! Like really cool, you admired his abilities and found him nice.. Kite was really cool as well! Now knowing he will be helping gon find his dad more faster which is always super cool!! Well at least you found it cool, you don’t know about your brother but Killua seemed fine with kite and you trusted his judgement, you always do. You followed gon and killua, kite in front until he stopped and everything went down.. there was another chimera ant, this one seemed more power than each other one.. which concerned you three but when you saw kite’s arm flying you knew to get ready to fight or at least get ready to run off until you saw killua hit gon in the back of the neck and.. you? Killua grabbed gon and you.. and.. and ran.
When you woke up, you were leaning against a tree where you had your head on killua’s shoulder.. You saw gon still knocked out, you looked at killua as he looked at his lap and kept thinking without even realizing you were awake, you didn’t blame him. After literally what you guys just saw, it would.. be sorta hard to take it as Kite just got hurt and you knew Killua would be worrying about making the right decision but you kinda thought it was as literally kite said to leave him behind if anything happens as he would do the same to you three so it was the right decision right? You sighed as you leaned against the tree again and looking up into the sky until you heard a car which you and killua looked ahead to the chairmen and two other guys?… You seemed confused as they talked to killua but you didn’t really seem to pay attention to it until Killua finally noticed that you were awake and grabbed gon.
“{N/N}(Nickname), come.. come on.”
Killua muttered, his own voice shaky. He didn’t know why exactly but it was and you didn’t even question it one bit, You stood up and walked to the car and got in the back and so did he. He laid gon down gently as he watched you also sit down on the ground, close to gon and he almost eyed you like a hawk for no real reason other than he was worried really.. Killua sat down a bit and tried to relax as his mood got a bit too sour for him, he sighed quietly. Mainly not to make any noises that could bother you as well which he didn’t really wanna bother you after what you both just saw, Killua still can’t just believe he ran off like that but the aura around that creature.. it just.. made his skin crawl. He didn’t know why either but he doesn’t wanna think about it at all as it would sour his mood even more. He tried to think about you and alluka, but mainly about you as you were with him right now.. he just felt off about it. Until gon woke up of course..
He looked at gon as Gon looked around and got confused. Before Gon looked upset, he hated seeing his best friend upset but he bit his tongue to keep quiet as Gon looked at him and you. Before the lady with the gum in her mouth and pink hair spoke..
“Kite wouldn’t want you guys to be upset about this you know.”
She was right, like really right, You didn’t know why she was but she was honestly. From little you know about kite and his group, they seem all nice as well.. but from what you know about kite which is not much but he wouldn’t want you three just to be upset about this. He would wanted you guys to at least try to find him or just fight, You looked at your brother, Killua and gon and smiled as you watched gon’s upset look fade away as quickly as it come to exist.. You liked it when Gon was okay, you liked it when killua was okay. You loved it when they were both happy and okay, which always made you smile as you knew that they aren’t hurt in the slightest way really but Maybe. Just maybe gon was.. emotionally hurt, you don’t know really but it seemed like that honestly ..
Tumblr media

Protect Each Other
Kite X Reader
Word Count: 1214
Warning: Spoilers past this point for the Chimera ant arc, Cannon divergent
Requested: Anon
Request: Hello, I hope you're doing well. Recently I just got past the part in HxH where Kite died (bullshit imo), so I was wondering if you could write a oneshot of Kite having a s/o whose a werewolf and more powerful than the chimera ants so she saves him (and maybe heals his arm somehow?) but he didn't know until she shows him?
Tumblr media
You and Kite had been together for a long while when Gon and Killua found him. You had met him when he first started out, you guys clicked immediately and saved each other's life on many different occasions. You made surveying a little easier because you were able to blend in with most predator creatures given your nen energy, even if you didn’t look like an animal, you nen gave them the impression that you were one.
You were back at the base with the others when Kite called “Hello?” You asked holding the phone between your shoulder and ear as you continued to type up the findings from the last expedition. “(Y/N) are you able to pick me up?” He asked. “You're done already?” You asked. “Mmm.” He hummed. “There’s been a new development.” “Are you okay?” You asked. “Yes, I’m fine.” He answered. “Alright, we’ll come get you.” You answered as you stood from where you were sitting gesturing to a few of the others to follow you as you headed towards the door.
When you got to the agreed location to pick him up you were lounging in the back of the large car, you watched as he directed 2 kids to climb into the seats in front of you, one of them glancing back at you quickly as if sensing that you were different, his blue eyes scanned over you for a second before the door closing behind him caused him to turn back around, the door opened by your feet as Kite ducked down tapping your ankle prompting you to lift them before he settled in the seat where you rested to legs again. “So who are your new friends?” You asked. “I’m Gon Freecss.” One of them turned to look at you, his smile bright and brown eyes reminding you of a man that quite frankly got on your nerves. “Freecss?” You asked. “Like Ging?” “You know my Dad?” Gon asked. “I really wish I didn’t.” You shrugged. “Who’s your friend?” “Killua Zoldyck.” The other kid answered. “That makes sense, that’s why you noticed my nen.” You smirked. “It felt like an animal.” He mumbled. “Thank you.” You winked as Monta started the van and headed back.
You should have known the moment that the kids insisted on coming with you that there was going to be some kind of problem, not because of them but because of the enemies that you were fighting but as you stared down the Chimera Ant in front of you, you knew the only way to get out of the situation was to get the kids out first. “Kite, get them out of here.” You ordered, your body moving into a low defensive position, much like a wolf as you let your nen ability activate, teeth and nails elongating creating sharp dangerous weapons. “I’m not leaving you here.” He answered as the creature laughed and dove forward heading straight for Kite, you blocked the attack and dragged your claws across it’s chest, the skin was tougher than you had thought and the wound was barely there. “You need to go, I can hold it off for at least 15 minutes, you can get out of range in that time, then I can pull back.” You explained, the creature pressed it’s hand to it’s chest before pulling away. “You cut me.” It said. “You didn’t think I could do that did you?” You asked. “I want to play with you.” It cheered as it moved forward again. “Go, send me a signal when you are safe!” You ordered as you dove forward to meet it, you easily wrestled it to the ground and pulled your arm back landing a punch square in her chest. The creature lashed out scratching you across your check and neck as you pulled back to dodge, it would have one straight across your neck, it was attempting to kill you. “You are dangerous.” “Thank you.” It gave what you assumed was a smile as it’s tail moved behind it. “You ants are really a problem.” You mumbled as it shot forward again you crossed your arms in order to block before side stepping and hitting it in the back of the neck hoping that you used enough strength to keep it’s attention on you. “I heard about this thing called Nen, is that what you’re using?” It asked as it looked at you. “How did you find out about that?” You asked. “There was a human that we caught, I played around with his brain and he told me everything. I think you humans call it a Lobotomy.” It explained. “Who did you take?” You asked. “I don’t know his name, I never asked, he was supposed to be food for the Queen but he ran and I was the one that found him.” It answered. “You know one day someone will kill you, it probably won’t be me but I hope that they torment you as deeply as you did that poor soul.” You growled, it seemed to stop for as a second, almost reassessing its plan of attack but before either of you could move there was a loud unmistakable sound, your signal, they were safe. “That’s your signal.” It smirked, it moved so quickly that you almost couldn’t track it dodging at the last second and earning a gash across the side, you wouldn’t have been able to keep this up for much longer, you channeled most of your nen into your legs using it to propel yourself away from your attacker and into the forest where you attempted to lose it. Your legs taking most of the hits as it tried to slow you down, when nothing seemed to work it started to fall back, you assumed you’d finally reached the end of it’s own safe zone, slowing slightly as you headed back towards the edge of the forest, running into a few of the weaker ants and dispatching them on the way.
As you broke out of the forest and into the bright sun you breathed a sigh of relief outside of the forest. You knew that you were safe at least for now, given their ability to fight it won’t be long before they venture out and a plan was needed immediately “(Y/N)!” Kite yelled, meeting you as you stumbled out “your hurt.” He observed easily lifting you, his eyes casting over your legs and body. “They’ll heal.” You said as your eyes searched around the clearing before falling on Gon and Killua who were both safe and unharmed. “Come on, let's get back to the other side of the border. We need to start contacting people.” Kite answered “and get you treated.” “They know about Nen.” You explained “when we get to the border we have to ask them what other hunters were here, they took one of them, maybe more, but they tortured one of them and got all the information that they needed, they know a lot we have to stop them now.” “Come on you two, we have work to do.” Kite said as he looked at the two kids before leading them back to the border where you’d be able to contact someone for help.

For me killua is one of the most well written characters in hxh. His whole journey of escaping his home because he didn't want to be an assassin like his family, it was still difficult to stop old beahviors. Killua making his first friend and having a healthy relationship for the first time cause his family was so manipulative, his older brother even putting a needle in him to control him. Although the needle was real, it was still a nice concept of his fears and trauma
And the chimera ant arc was so GOOD for his development, because he was able to finally let go of the thing holding him back from trying, the fear of fighting monsters who seemed stronger than him, of course just taking the needle off wouldn't wash his problems away, they're still there, but he's not afraid of them anymore, not after this arc
And there's one detail that was very important to me, his second best friend, Ikalgo.
Gon is and will always be his best friend, but in the chimera arc gon was so angry with kite's death, he was so mad he yelled at killua, saying he didn't care. And I felt killua's pain hearing that deep inside me
Gon has always been killua's light, we all know that, but right now he needed someone else to light his path for a little bit, and I'm so proud of him for making a new friend.
All scenes with killua in this arc made me cry, especially in episode 124, the one he had a breakdown. He had to cry and beg Palm to come back, he knew he couldn't stop Gon from almost destroying himself even if he wanted, he was from an abusive family after all, he didn't know what he was supposed to do. For him, Gon was a bright person, someone who was always positive, he was supposed to be the one who was a little broken, and then his friend changes so much and he has no idea what to do, he didn't want to say what his friend was doing would destroy him.
As much as I feel sad about them parting ways, I think it would be good for them some time alone for themselves. Some time to process all that happened, they were all the time fighting for their own lives to survive that I doubt they even had time to think about what was going on. They need time to think what they have been doing, think about what they want to do nowa and they need to see how life will be without each other after changing each others lives so much.
Of course, we can't forget about alluka. She is killua's dear little sister after all. After rescuing her from their home, even if it was just to save gon at the time, he cares about her, now he has another motivation besides following gon where ever he goes, and that's what he needed. You can't just be your friend's shadow forever. Ever since the start killua was the one without a motivation, no one can't take that from him, not even his best friend.
And when they're ready, they'll meet again. They'll talk about the old days and the things they've been through. And after all that trauma this arc has been for them, they'll heal little by little with each others help
Because that's what friends do

My Fave NL HxH Ships
This post is dedicated to my NL/Het HxH Ships. I think NL Ships deserves more love as I have received and seen many replies/posts bashing on het ships(not only from HxH but other series as well), claiming shipping X is homophobic, toxic and such. Maybe those posts are just joke, but I don’t think it’s nice to shame others for having different taste. In the end, fiction is just fiction.
I myself is an avid BL/GL shippers and made many arts of them, but I love my NL ships just as much. Let’s check my list and see if you ship them as well even in different interpretations!
1. Kurapika x Neon
Best hateslash. Kurapika changed his original upon seeing Neon and ended taking care of her family. He could’ve left and find better employer, but he didn’t. HE CHOSE EXTRA WORK INSTEAD. Imagine the potential of Kuraneon dehumanizing each other as objects of lust and taking care of each other in the same time. Also, the chance of Kurapika isolating Neon cause he was so paranoid after Chrollo stole her power. That is just so toxic, so good.
Truely gruesome couple, made for each other.
2. Chrollo x Neon
Also best hateslash. Imagine sleeping with the person who manipulated and ruined your life because he wanted to OWN you! He wanted to tell the world that you belong to him and a part of you is forever with him. And you love him very much cause no other person can play you like a piano and worship you like this. Well I wouldn’t wish such relationship on myself. But this ship really tickles my sexual sadism brrrrRR I wanna do this to Neon ...sorry babygirl.
[Here is Pitou x Kai, but I ship them as BL so let’s skip it]
3. Gon x Kite
Gon promised to protect Kite and that’s the most romantic thing Gon ever said to a girl(???). Not to mention Kite literally made Gon and Gon-san. Kite is the first person we see with Gon. He taught him important lessons, inspired him to be a hunter and Gon’s anger for Kite forced Gon to release his full potential as Gon-san. That’s how important Kite is in Gon’s life. Anyway... did I just type he...? Welp I ship Gon x Kite as BL too but he’s a girl now.
4. Killua x Machi
When Killua hit Machi, I immediatelly shipped them.... no other explanation just me and my..taste.
5.  Hisoka x Machi
Honestly I’ve always supported them but they’re not really my top favorite until... Hisoka killed all Machi’s friends.... Finally, things are starting to get interesting. Go ruin your girl’s life and make her chase you, that’s the trick!
6. Killua x Canary
They are just so cute. He looked like he wanted to impress her in 2011 anime adaption by showing off his skill.
7. Basho x Melody
Honestly they act like Kurapika’s parents. They are always together and keep in touch with each other even after leaving Nostrade family employment. Also, Basho acts like Neon is the daughter-in-law he kind of question.
8. Komugi x Mereum
They just want to spend time with each other till the end of their lives :(
9. Hanzo x Menchi
Did anyone remember 1999 scenes where they bickered and Menchi dressed up then Hanzo took a picture or something??? I hope they meet again as Hanzo is getting more screentime now!
10. Shizuku x Phinks
Shizuku ruined her clothes when fighting ants in Meteor City.... and Phinks gave her his clothes!! OMG THE CHIVALRY.

The double loss of a childhood - a not-so-brief analysis through Gon and Kite
WARNING: MAJOR CHIMERA ANT ARC SPOILERS //
.
First of all, this is kinda messy because I was writing and power went off </3. I wouldn’t even call it a meta, more of a psychological analysis.
It's so complex the way Togashi works through symbolisms. Gon and Killua had to let go of their childhood and childish behaviors. Had to make challenging choices. While two of the few grown ups who cared about them and gave proper attention to their relationship, are the perfect imagery of children: new Kite and Bisky.
These two are the greatest and overall positive influences within Gon and Killua lives in terms of adult Hunters, always looking out for the boys. Both of them are experienced, opposing the appearance of a child.
The irony is that, while Bisky and post-CAA Kite look like children (Kite is a child now, to be honest), Gon and Killua are, actually, real children facing painful and forced coming of age, enduring conflicts that even adults can fail to cope with properly - and this has been acknowledged by Knov and Shoot, also two experienced Hunters that got mesmerized by how those two kids could still fight, despite everything they saw and been through.
Anyways, Gon and Killua got their emotional development and their lack of experience put under extreme conditions, forcing them to break their dynamic without proper thinking, basically facing the war, the complexity of morals and relationships like adults.
That said, I’ll won’t be deeply working some points that I’m assuming you are all familiar with, like Gon’s reaction because Kite has been the fuel of his search for approval and being valued, or like how difficult it is for Gon not to handle things alone.
First of all, Kite is indeed Gon’s fuel for his journey. For the first time, someone cared to tell him the truth about Ging, and made him feel a little bit important. Noticed. Someone stayed by his side, for a short moment, and gave him a reason.
Tumblr media
And if you take into account that he died two times before Gon’s eyes, it makes everything more shocking for the kid.
“Huh, what do you mean?”
Pitou has killed the physical adult Kite, but the rebirth itself “killed” the father figure imagery that Gon saw in Kite. Resembling now a girl of similar age as Gon's, Kite can not be kept as a replacement for the mentor and father Gon didn't have. And this is a heavy loss, because it took Gon’s goal away from him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's also a very smart and symbolic way to end this desperate journey around the urge of becoming deserving of proud, especially from Kite, the one who gave his life a purpose. Because Gon has stated, back in chapter 7, that “Kite seemed to be prouder of him (Ging) than he was of himself”, so he wants to walk the same steps as his biological father to make someone proud of him the same way. He can't project his goals around others anymore - and like the Koala Man said, the heart must be fed, or you’ll end up doing the same things again and never getting satisfied with the outcome. What you seek must be found in yourself.
Tumblr media
But what Kite sees, in this chapter called Repentance (337) is that Gon is probably not ready for the amount of reflection waiting for him. Kite then sees no good in weighting his shoulders any more. The moment where he asks Gon “sorry about what?” is important, because it’s where Kite and the readers get to understand that Gon needs a break before realizing it.
Tumblr media
Kite, then, avoid this subject. Gon is not ready.
Instead of throwing the truth about what was the real issue here, Kite first gives Gon craved the most: he praises him for being able to defeat a stronger enemy that Kite himself could not.
Tumblr media
The boy’s reaction, though, it’s not what we would’ve expect from Gon.
Gon shows no trace of excitement over the fact he has accomplished his first goal - he was able to impress Kite. But, why is this so important? Because this is a breaking point for his journey. Gon doesn’t feel like he cares about this anymore. If Kite is not the same, he shouldn’t be either. If being approved doesn’t mean the same, meeting Ging is pointless. His past self has died, alongside with Kite  - figuratively and directly speaking.
Tumblr media
The troubled boy acknowledges that "if it wasn't for Killua (name separated from the rest ‘cause he has his special spot) and everybody else, I wouldn't be here". This means a lot for Gon’s development and grief, because the moments where he feels he’s messed up or must redeem himself, he doesn’t mind getting hurt or overcoming fear in order to handle “his mess” all alone. If he proves himself and protect the ones he loves, he will do it. But he needed help, and this is something he doesn’t feel proud of.
Tumblr media
That’s when Kite shifts the engine once more.
It’s useless to make Gon feel better addressing old desires. Like Kite himself, Gon also got a second chance. They are both letting go from their past.
With a sweet tone, Kite breaks the cycle of the strong father figure: it's the same for him. Kite, the major inspiration for Gon, says that he didn't make it alone, too - and that doesn't make him less strong. He can’t be this parental figure anymore, maybe he didn’t even know he was. The only thing he knows, is that there are different types of strength. They are not weak for having friends and needing help.
With this, Kite closes the curtains. A strong and admirable Hunter, that wasn’t any less powerful for needing help. Gon shouldn’t be ashamed of this kind of strength: the power of making others wanting to be with him. Something that could not coexist with following Ging steps - Gon must belong to himself and separate him from others’ expectations.
That’s the final act of the mentor Kite, where he dies as a projection. Funny is, this moment with Kite holds some good parallels with the next chapter, where Killua and Gon part ways. Though I don’t think they’ve meant 100% the same, there are some hints that Killua also kept the soil fertile for Gon - but this is yet to be addressed in a future post.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back to the story, Kite’s not a parent, not even an grown man anymore. He pushes Gon forward to meet Ging, because that’s the one thing that will end this cycle, definitively. No one to look up to, to pursue admiration from, and getting blind from fear of being weak and left behind. He must face change. This desire to be approved even if it costs his life has reached an end. This part of his journey must be accomplished - and left behind.
Tumblr media
Gon can now center his journey around developing his self-esteem, thoughts on himself after knowing his own worth. He has a lot to make up for with Killua, but he had been forgiven. The soil is fertile once again, the seed of self forgiveness can grow. He can come up with a goal that centers around love with proper growth and responsibility, without others having to make up for self-esteem he lacks. He’s a traumatized child, that probably never put much thought on how lonely and scared he felt before he acted, and his coping mechanisms mimics his lack of experience.
He can now be free of the thought that, if he sacrifices this "undeserving being" he is on his mind, people will choose not to leave. Because giving up on his life wasn’t the right way to let them feel safe around him. They’ve left anyway. Everyone thanked him and look like they’re not mad, and he has found his father, but why things still look... unsatisfying? What meaning Ging even holds for him, still?
Tumblr media
Losing his first goal is like losing his past self, and his childhood. Gon can’t walk backwards, though he comes back to Whale Island, things are not the same anymore, just like him. Losing the imagery and the person Kite is a twist of cycle, losing the urge of meeting Ging is cutting ties with this past self and this mad search for his own value in wrong sources, and now he has to understand what he wants and can do the way he is.
Tumblr media
He must figure it out on his own, how he can grow from this and how to fix things before he finds a new goal. He has found something more important than the thing he was once hunting. Or better saying, someone. Someone that should’ve, yes, shared his feelings instead of creating distance - but he knows this certain someone left him with a smile because he cared. Killua will never overbear him, but can’t be the one to analyze everything for him anymore.
Gon has been forced to slow down and think, because in loneliness, there’s no one to impress. There, is where his identity will be found.
Tumblr media
When you care about yourself, you learn how to take care of others. True, changing hurts. Losing childhood hurts. Losing strong beliefs and having to reconstruct yourself is a process. Bereaving children mostly don’t get proper attention because their anger, isolation and dismissive attitudes are often scolded than embraced, because they’re expected to endure loss like adults.
The dead don’t come back to life. Last minute, saved by the most important person in his life. But changing is the only inevitable thing while living. Kite was that important, but he must go away from the responsibility Gon has, unconsciously, put him through. Now, his journey consists of a blank page, waiting to be written once again with this new self, in order to learn how to fix his relationship with the one he loves the most. Killua wasn’t planned to exist in Gon’s life. They didn’t expect to run into each other, but as soon as they did, they’ve slowly changed their goals. Things seem off right now, but there is no room for replacements or masks.
Gon might have not noticed, but his goal wasn’t the same already. Meeting Ging brings not the same feeling anymore, especially because Killua was the first thing running Gon’s mind when thinking about this meeting, a major indicative that Killua was, already, his top priority over his father - and maybe he never put a second thought on that, the way Gon is single-minded.
But now there is room for a lot of thinking, and there’s something we must remember, an optimistic hint that I’m saving its analysis for the separation meta:
“Gon is not the type to break a promise twice”, Killua has once said.

6, 16, & 23 for the fandom asks!
I’ll answer for HxH, but if you want a different fandom just let me know <3
6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?
I'll read anything as long as it's well-written, so there's definitely pairings that fandom has shown me the potential in that I wouldn't have considered just from the canon, like Hisoka/Illumi and Pariston/Ging for example.
Actually I like the fandom interpretation of HisoIllu more than the canon one, because in canon you feel sorry for Illumi but he's still definitely a villain (and to the main characters, specifically), while Hisoka is this predatory psychopath who drives the plot forward and adds a feeling of danger to all the scenes he's in. Whereas I think the fandom focuses on Hisoka as like this chaos force and Illumi as a sad robot who needs to loosen up, so they complement each other XD.
There's also @princessoftrance's Kurapika/Illumi fanart which is a pairing I would have never in a million years even thought about, in canon it doesn't make sense but in fanon it's kind of endearingly awkward. Oh and Senket is writing Leorio/Illumi for HxH Big Bang and that story rules too... also @hxhhasmysoul keeps writing these oddball side pairings that work like Alluka/Canary and Kurapika/Canary and Leorio/Senritsu and you know what, headcanon accepted.
BUT ACTUALLY, I'll say Pariston/Ging for this one, because while I appreciate these other pairings when other people do them I'm writing a Pariging fic for HxH Big Bang right now. Haha.
16. If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?
The part of the manga where Gon and Killua first come to NGL and are killing Chimera Ants and it's treated as a kind of training arc for them goes on way too long. Especially the part where they're training to defeat Knuckle and Shoot, it just goes on forever? I think Gon's fight with Owl and Bat is probably the lowest point of the whole series, it feels like forced shounen battle conventions when the manga at this point has some larger points to make. I believe Togashi was in very poor health at the time though, so it feels gauche to complain too much. Also some of the stuff in this section is just set up, which will pay off later on.
More importantly, the final parting scene with Killua and Gon is too short.   10 pages!!!!  Not even a full chapter!!!!   Gon apologizing to Kite was 5 pages all on its own.  I don’t need them to have a fanfic style tearful confession where they embarrassingly talk about their feelings and spell absolutely everything out for the audience (though it would reduce the amount of angst in fandom surrounding their separation, probably XD), and anyway, that would probably be out of character for both of them - especially Killua, even though he grew enough to say he WOULD confront Gon about how he was hurt, but also Gon bc Gon is considerate of Killua’s feelings and wouldn’t push for more, or feel he deserved more after what happened, probably.  But cmon, this is the central relationship for the whole manga, we could get some wordless shots at least.  Fellas is it gay to let your best guy friend know you are sad about being apart from him.
23. Unpopular character you love?
Listen my tastes are very basic, I like the main characters and the characters who get the most screentime :P I'll say Ging for this one though, I really love Ging??? He's so interesting???? If Hunter x Hunter was a seinen manga, for adults, and not a shounen manga, for teens, Ging would be the protagonist.

You probably hear this a lot, I’m really sorry, but I just had to ask and express my appreciation for the hxh Miraculous Ladybug au, will you ever consider continuing the series? Or maybe release the outline of the story since from some replies it sounds like you know where you wanted to go. I really enjoyed it and will respect your decision either way. Just had to ask for myself and say if one day you have some inspiration I’ll be there to read it! Sorry for the almost certainly repeat question
It’s no problem! I know Miraculous x Hunter is a favorite for many people so I understand why you’d want to know more ^-^
The Miraculous x Hunter series actually belongs to @emthimofnight, I didn’t come up with the plot I just wrote small scenes that I could picture happening in the universe. And all my inspiration for writing those scenes came from talking about the au with emthim but emthim isn’t involved in hxh or online in general anymore. So I don’t have the urge to write those stories and doubt I ever will, unfortunately. I’m sorry :(
From what I remember about the story..........Gon started to like Killua before either of them knew each other’s identities. Gon asks (aka blurts lol) out that he wants to take Killua on a date one random day at school during lunch and Killua has to pull him aside to make sure he’s not joking. Their first date is to an amusement park.
Sometime after that, Gon and Killua meet Kite who is peacock in this universe. Kite becomes their mentor. But Meruem (aka Hawk Moth) sends out an akuma who turns Pitou (a local doctor) into a monster. Pitou kills Kite, Gon goes into a rage just like during the Chimera Ant arc and becomes obsessive with taking Pitou down before Pitou can hurt anyone else (like Killua).
While fighting Pitou one time, Chat (Killua) has to save Ladybug (Gon) after Ladybug gets injured. But Ladybug detransforms before Chat can get him to safety. This is how Killua finds out about Ladybug’s identity.
Killua doesn’t say anything to Gon because Gon has enough stress on him as is. But eventually the guilt gets to him and Killua tells Gon the truth. Gon is esctatic of course.
They defeat Pitou at some point, idk when or how that happens though.
When Gon and Killua graduate high school, Killua’s family sends him far away to college in the hopes of separating the two. Gon stays home to either work for Aunt Mito at her baker or go to a local college I forgot which. But sometimes he transforms into Ladybug to visit Killua~
After college they get married, buy a house, adopt a kid. They teach the kid to become a hero like them andddddddd.........yeah I think that’s it?
I suggest checking out my miraculous ladybug au tag for more details. There’s some additional drabbles and asks in there that have more information on the plot that you’d enjoy!
Thank you though for your interest, I really appreciate your ask <3

Hey, I just discovered your HxH metas and they're wonderful. I'd love to hear your thoughts on how Gon and Killua treat favors & why. Gon obsesses over paying people back and not accepting charity; his fight with Knuckle even has him literally burdened with a debt he can't pay back (like his debt to the dead Kite). OTOH, Killua tells Ikalgo "It's nothing special to help your friends; don't say thanks" and saves Gon with his uniquely *debt-free* wishes. Do the thank-yous in c.338 make Killua sad?
Ah, thank you Anony!
So I discussed this with @aspoonofsugar a little (because I love this ask!), and so will incorporate elements of her answer too if that’s okay?
Tumblr media
I think the development is slightly different. Meaning, I think Killua also sees favors as an exchange too at first--he was, of course, an assassin for hire, and can’t believe Gon is his friend despite the way they’ve been helping each other. He, like the other Zoldycks, struggles to see relationships and love in ways that do not require payment. Gon, on the other hand, at the start of his arc, shows that he sees friendship and love and loyalty as things to be happily given away.
However, as they go about their adventures, this starts to change. By the time we’re at the Chimera Ant Arc, Killua has grown as a person in some ways--literally removing the needle, a symbol of Illumi’s manipulative sort of love, from his skull--and hence is able to treat both Ikalgo and Palm without manipulation by the end. In fact, Killua goes on a journey with Palm in terms of the codependent aspects of their relationships with Gon to coming to a place where both of them understand healthy relationships far better. It is only then that Killua remembers Alluka and is able to return, stand up to his father, and take his sister away. But his journey isn’t over yet, especially with Nanika.
Gon, however, is more than happy to see himself as someone giving friendship freely. By the time we get to CAA, though, Gon is the one who is struggling to believe in a relationship and love that isn’t guided by manipulation, that doesn’t have to be earned. In this respect Gon and Killua’s arcs are inversed. See: Ging. Ging manipulates Gon, makes him try to earn the right to meet him, etc. The idea of Kite sacrificing his life for Gon is something Gon can never pay back, but his father has taught him he has to earn everything, even the basic right to be loved by a parent.
Gon doesn’t want to see himself as the sort who is weak in any way, because he hasn’t ever been able to be weak, but HxH’s whole shtick is that connection is where we find the most joy and where we grow the most as people. If you are ultimately so strong you don’t need to connect, you are actually just going to grow up too fast and your own ‘strength’ will break you. Hence, Gon-san.
Tumblr media
You could get into how Killua is able to save Gon because he can see elements of himself in Gon’s behavior (I mean, he was a full assassin by the time he was twelve and presumably far younger) and how Gon did not actually want to be like Killua at the beginning (no I don’t think he *literally* thought this, but I do think there’s an element of this in the unconscious behaviors Gon displays throughout the entire series). But it’s also through each other--as well as others!--that they’re able to get to places where they need to be to grow, and to connect with the people who can help them grow as people right now.
For Killua this is Alluka, who can on the one hand, give him favors he can’t ever repay, and on the other hand, he ironically has earned the right to protect (according to his manipulative parents). For Gon this is Mito, the woman who fought to adopt him when she was only thirteen herself (yes, really), whom he cannot ever pay back and whom he doesn’t need to.
Because kids should not have to earn their lives from their parents.

hxh movie....2!
ruth and i watched the second hxh movie and that certainly was a movie
the title is already cracking me up lmao ‘the last mission’ THATS SO DRAMATIC.
the first like 3 scenes feel totally disconnected like theyre from different movies vnjskdfnsdkflk
‘many decades ago’ vbhjdsfbajsdf that phrasing is hilarious somehow
damn young netero just killed jeb bush
ah look its our movie villains, starting their villain stuff
so i guess this is set around where we are in the series now - like, somewhere in this beginning part of the chimera ant arc where gon and killua are hanging w/kite. which is kinda funny bc they dont explain AT ALL how and why gon and killua are in this city suddenly hvbajdsfjskdjan
killua skateboarding makes me smile :’) love it
IS THAT ZUSHI??????? AHHHHHHH MY BOY!!!!!!!!!! BABY BOY!!!!!!!!!!! LOOK AT HIMMMM HES A LIL BUFF 7 YR OLD NOW OUGHHHH HES GROWN SO MUCH...POWERFUL BABY....IM SO PROUD
omg wing and bisky are here too!!! nen fam
im so proud of zushi being a floor master omg....i love how the side characters progress and grow offscreen, separate of the protags, kinda like seeing pokkle again (rip tho, i think)
LEORIOOOOO MY MAN!!!!!!! he really showed up for like 3 seconds then gets KOd and dumped in a sewer....STOP DOING MY MAN SO DIRTY GIVE HIM SCREENTIME..
ohhh so we’re doing anime die hard. kinda like the first macadamia movie
that lady rlly just stabbed herself huh.
these antags look like theyre from naruto. main antag dude looks like about 7 different anime guys fused
oh man netero got dunked on immediately Ls. gotta take him out so the protags can do the fighting
gon and killua are so good. and also in love. epic 12 yr old romance
KURAPIKA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lookin sharp in a suit. also just looking depressed as hell in general. KURAPIKA ARE YOU...GOOD....ARE YOU STAYING HYDRATED??? TAKING UR VITAMINS?? I DONT THINK YOU ARE.
also i still cant believe kp is working for neon still...it rlly feels like they just gave up on life and just figured that staying there was fine or w/e
now the 3 protags are goin full die hard thru the tower...WHERE is leorio i cant believe they rlly threw my mans in a sewer like that smh
these guys r rlly called ‘the shadow’ thats so edgy
also i watched this like a few hours ago but im a dumb bitch so im reading thru the wiki article for the movie to remind me what happened, and apparently The Shadow(tm) was the black ops division of the hunter association, and they were later rekkt once they started w/the On...i so didnt get that while actually watching the movie vhdakjfhbskdfn thanks hunterpedia for explaining that one to me
wooowww so the HA rlly just committed massive, morally reprehensible war crimes and then just sealed it all in a book or st and moved on. yikes id be mad too, generic anime dude villain
so these three rlly just resurrected a dude by going into the desert and saying ‘hey we r emo can you give us some power and maybe anime jeb bush’ and that Worked
now kurapika is fighting the dude in the control room and gon&killua are fighting Big Dude WHO BEAT UP ZUSHI!!!!!!!!! get his ass boys
LEORIOOOOOO MMY MAN IS BACK FROM HIS SEWER ADVENTURE!!!!!!!!! ILY SIRRRRR
and then he immediately gets yoinked by hisoka, who is for some reason in this movie. i feel like they were like oh yeah hisoka is like, the 5th main character/antagonistic force of the story so i guess he should be here. its hilarious tho bc he spends 90% of his already limited screentime in this movie just playing w/his playing cards and smirking. bastard man you just gooo awayyyyy
seeing beans again omggggg green dude u r great
also who the FUCK is that smarmy looking blonde at the HA HQ...i hate him already based on 1) his atrocious pattern-clashing fashion sense, and 2) his smarmy aura. he looks like hes never thought a thought in his life. ruth says he might be buddies w/ging which makes me hate him even more
gon and killua....r dating. ty
when gon and the bad guy start fighting in the elevator shaft and killua just kinda watches hvbajddfhbsjf hes like ‘oh the narrative demands that gon fights solo for a bit so i guess ill stay here’ lmao
but then he saves gon with his physics-heavy electromagnet elevator clamp plan....smart baby
then after they defeat the guy they just start chatting lol i love them
ohhh shit the guy exploded, thats fucked up
poor gon :( more trauma for the poor kid
meanwhile kurapika fights an evil clone of themself. wow
tbh kurapika could totally one-up these guys by being like ‘well ok at least you have each other, im the VERY LAST kurta’
its strange to see kurapika fighting w/the sticks instead of the chains tbh
WHO THREW THAT KNIFE AT THE GUY IT HAS TO BE LEORIO HHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
LEORIO AND KURAPIKA REUNION HHHHH THEYYYYY
they are married tyvm
kurapika is soooo not doin well like...please get some rest
kurapika referring to their ‘new friends’ hmmmm thats probably an actual canon reference since this doesnt get brought up again in the movie. probs referring to w/e kp is doing in canon at this point
LEORIO USING NEN LMAOOO hes like pshhhh that was easy but internally hes like owww....sir ily sm
damn kurapika rlly stabbed that guy w/a stick huh. rip dude
ohhh shit its those drug capsule things
KURAPIKA RLLY TOOK A BULLET FOR LEORIO HUH. I HATE IT HEREEEEEE
leorio best dude
wow so kp has to make an On covenant OR DIE...yeah i think theyll choose the die option
squad reunion :’) even tho kp is like, dying
gon is such a good boy :( ily baby
leorio and kurapika are str8 up married ty
final battle timeee
love how at this point in the story gon only has one attack so he has no choice but to keep doing that same attack (well, the 3 variations) over and over til st happens lmao
lmao gon and kurapika are rlly on the opposite ends of the ‘On’ scale here w/kp willing to die rather than accept using On, and gon seeking out On for POWER and also VENGEANCE
the themes of gon’s righteous anger on behalf of others continues...
the boys are rlly getting tossed around a lot this movie geez
hh boy gon is now...PURPLE-BLUE
oooh killua convincing the lady to chill out was cool - tho ngl i didnt realize she was still alive
now netero can go ham. i wonder if he’ll finish the fight or if gon will
uh oh gon is Extra Feral now
gon: IM EVIL NOW
killua: NOT ON MY FUCKING WATCH
oughhh they love each other so much bro. fuck this
gon banging his head on the ground and then killua jumping in between him and the ground....true love bro
gon snapped out of it WITH THE POWER OF LOVE!!!!!!!!!! im emo and gay. thanks
love how even when netero was younger he was still like, an old guy lmao
and then the next day theyre all just back in heavans arena hbvhdahdfbjsakf who cares that the building just got hijacked? whatevs
kurapika smiling a little and melody then smiling knowingly....melody is like Bitch I Know Youre In Love
still kurapika seems like. not Right. pls get some therepy
im glad zushi got to fight that guy like he was supposed to....and w/the nen fam cheering him on :’)
THOUGHTS
its wild how they didnt really delve into the whole ‘war crimes’ thing w/the hunter association lmao. idk if this movie is canon so that might be why....they just brushed over the fact that the HA was like, running concentration camps and murdering entire groups of people. wild
this movie was fun!! it felt more like hxh than the last movie, which v much felt like a generic anime movie. this one felt more in character. it did fall into typical anime movie tropes sometimes but the characters felt more like themselves here, espec w/the point of the story this seems to be set at
like gons anger and all that - while it obvs comes from a place of love and kindness, he can get carried away sometimes...i feel like we’re gonna rlly delve into the negative impact of this in the CA arc and i am both so ready and not ready at all
this movie was hella gay which i appreciate. love the gays
all in all this was fun!! i wish there were more hxh movies lmao i love anime movies. well at least theres the musical LMAOOO im gonna watch that soon

My Hero Academia, Hunter x Hunter.
My Hero Academia:
haven’t heard of it | absolutely never watching| might watch | currently watching| dropped| hated it | meh| a positive okay| liked it| liked it a lot!| loved it| a favorite
don’t watch period| drop if not interested within 2-3 episodes| give it a go, could be your thing| 5 star recommendation
fav characters: I really like Midoriya. He’s just so likable, endearing and sympathetic. I really like Todoroki’s character development. Iida has had some really cool moments too. Uraraka is just so sweet and upbeat. Eri is a new favorite as well.
least fav characters: It might be a cliche at this point, but that would easily be Mineta. He is indeed the worst and the only good thing about him is that he gets little screentime to do the whole gross pervert gag. I’m not a huge fan of Kaminari either since he tends to hang around Mineta, but at least he can be funny and got a good chance to shine during the Provisional License Exam arc.
fav relationship: I really love Midoriya’s student-mentor relationship with All Might. They truly care about each other and I love seeing All Might basically go from this idealized hero to a friend and father figure for Midoriya. I also like Midoriya’s friendships with Todoroki and Iidya. He was able to help both of them through difficult situations and it was nice to see them become closer with each other over the course of the series. Bakugo and Kirishima’s friendship became much more endearing than I expected as well, especially when I initially thought it was going to be one-sided.
fav moment: There are a lot of great moments, but a new favorite moment for me is Eri choosing to be saved. Honestly, episode seventy-six is easily one of the best episodes of the series to date. The insert song was beautiful, I loved how determined Midoriya was to save Eri and Midoriya vs. Overhaul was terrific. But I started crying the moment Eri broke through Overhaul’s emotional manipulation to grab Togeta’s cape. She is a traumatized child, been treated like a monster her whole life because of her Quirk, has been abused both physically and mentally by Overhaul and thought that the only way to stop people from dying around her was to stay with Overhaul. Seeing Midoriya chase after them and then Togeta’s cape gave her the courage to break through years of trauma enough to realize that she needed to let them save her. It was a beautiful moment that made me instantly love Eri.
I also really love the lunchroom scene with Midoriya, Iida and Todoroki. It was a short scene, but it really showed off their friendship so well and how they all support each other. I also loved that Iida said the same lines that Midoriya did before they left for their internship. He saw that Midoriya was bottling up his feelings just like he was before and wanted to at least offer some reassurance.
headcanons/theories: I don’t really have any theories or headcanons for this series.
unpopular opinion: I’m still not a huge fan of the Midoriya and Bakugo pairing. Their relationship has improved, but their dynamic for the first couple of seasons bothered me too much. Season one Bakugo reminded me way too much of bullies I had to deal with, so that stung a bit.
how’d you find it: I didn’t watch it until it started airing on Toonami. I watched the first season there, binged watched season two and the bulk of the third season within a week and I’m currently watching season four on Funimation’s website.
random thoughts: My Hero Academia is one of the few shows that lives up to the hype for me. It is a shonen series to its core, but it’s shonen done extremely well in my book and I look forward to pretty much every episode. It’s a solid series that is worth at least checking out.
Hunter x Hunter:
haven’t heard of it | absolutely never watching| might watch | currently watching| dropped| hated it | meh| a positive okay| liked it| liked it a lot!| loved it| a favorite
don’t watch period| drop if not interested within 2-3 episodes| give it a go, could be your thing| 5 star recommendation
fav characters: I really like Gon and Killua. They work so well together, but they’re also really good characters individually. Leorio turned out to be more likable than I thought he would, although I think he needed more screentime. Meruem is easily the most interesting villain in the series. Biscuit is such a fun character and easily the best female character in the cast.
least fav characters: I don’t really like Hisoka. He’s strong and intimidating, but I find him too creepy for my tastes, especially during his fight with Gon in the Heavens Arena arc.
fav relationship: Gon and Killua’s friendship is the heart of the series. It provides so much growth for Killua in particular and I honestly don’t know how the series functions without having the two of them traveling together. Mereum and Komugi’s relationship turned out to be sweeter than I expected. Meruem found a genuine connection with another person, which gave him more humanity than he initially thought he had. It was also strange for me to become a fan of their pairing in the same episode where they both die.
fav moment: I really like Gon’s emotional breakdown over Kite’s death. While the anime not including Kite prior to the Chimera Ant arc weakened the impact to a degree, it still worked because Gon’s main focus throughout the bulk of the arc was to save Kite. He was so sure that Kite was alive and they just needed Pitou to heal him. But then he was hit with the reality that Kite was long dead and it crushed him. The emotions were so raw and intense with Gon going back and forth between anger and sadness. The way he defeated Pitou was so harsh and brutal, but matched with those emotions. It didn’t feel cheap either since Gon nearly died from using that much power and as far as I’m aware, still can’t use Nen in the manga. It was an intense moment that really felt like a natural progression for Gon’s character during the arc.
I also love Leorio punching Ging right in face. Even with knowing that Ging allowed Leorio to do that, it was still immensely satisfying and made up for Leorio’s minimal screentime.
headcanons/theories: I don’t really have too many theories or headcanons for this series either.
unpopular opinion: I still think it was a massive mistake to bring Kite back to life. He still is technically a different person and just has the original Kite’s memories, but it felt like a cop out way for Gon to not really have to deal with Kite’s death. Maybe it will be better depending on whatever role Kite has in later arcs, but I think it would have been better if he hadn’t been reborn as a Chimera Ant. I’m not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but I have no idea why Colt had so much screentime during the first half of the Chimera Ant arc if he wasn’t going to be involved in the second half. I’m still disappointed that he doesn’t get to be reunited with his sister or his birth mother, so that could have been resolved if the last Chimera Ant was Colt’s human sister reborn like I initially thought it was going to be instead of somehow Kite.
how’d you find it: I watched the dub on Toonami. I could have gone through the series faster with the subs, which might have helped with the pacing a bit, but I like the dub voices, so I was okay with that.
random thoughts: Hunter x Hunter is a really good series. It has really solid battles, the powers are unique and the expansions on Nen feel pretty natural. I also think that it tackles training arcs really well. We get to see enough of Gon and Killua’s progress to where their increased powers feel believable and earned, but they don’t feel like they’re dragging this out either. It might be more intense or violent than people would expect from a shonen series, but it’s worth checking out at least.
Thank you for asking. ^_^

On Knov and his characterisation
Alright, I’m nearly done with hxh and I’ve been wanting to talk about Knov for quite a while now.
Knov was first introduced as your typical know-it-all, self proclaimed smartass character. He didn’t think much of Gon and Killua either. Which is why when they told him about how terrifying Pitou’s aura was, he dismissed them.
Ofcourse this was a really rude, almost cruel thing to do. They’re just kids after all. But that’s precisely why he said it. They’re only twelve years old, he hasn’t even seen them in action yet, neither does he know how mature they are for their age. Moreover, at that point, he hadn’t felt their aura. Morel and Knov only stood at a distance, while Netero was fighting the ants in Knov’s nen space. In other words, none of them actually knew how frightening Pitou’s aura was up close.
Besides, isn’t it perfectly natural for an adult (and experienced) person to underestimate what a child goes through? It’s not even like it’s just a trope for writing, it’s a real thing that happens. There are only a few rare occasions where an adult actually sees a child and understands what they’re capable of. Case in point in this context: Netero. But that in no way should be an argument for Knov’s standing, because that’s just human nature, which again is a widely explored topic in this arc.
Up until Knov had to actually infiltrate the palace, he was shown to be calm and cool-headed. Even when he was with Morel at NGL keeping watch on the chimera ant nest, he didn’t outright display any signs of distress. In fact, he spent most of his time reading.
It’s very easy for us to label him as a “condescending dickhead” because unlike him, we have all of the information. We know exactly what’s going on in the chimera ant nest, we know what Gon and Killua actually underwent in their brief exchange with Pitou, we know about their relatiionship with Kite, and so on. When a pair of kids come and tell you about how frightening someone else’s aura is (also: someone who you haven’t even met yet), you’re bound to think they’re exaggerating, or that they’re just not experienced enough to understand the situation. And that’s exactly what happened.
Knov willingly undertook the task of setting up the portals within East Gorto. Of course he was anxious, but determined nonetheless, because this was something only he could do. And it was absolutely imperative for him to succeed, otherwise the plan would not follow through. As he progressed with his infiltration, he got more and more tense. Honestly, it’s a marvel that his own heartbeat didn’t deter him.
Knov’s thought process was laid bare in this episode. He critically analyses his surroundings and each situation. This isn’t a product of experience alone, but of reading all of that literature as well. When he actually did confront a subordinate ant, he immediately reacted in the quietest way possible, and ensured that the body would not be left in sight. He even noticed the blood on his shoes and abandoned them in order to finish what he had come there for.
And then came the moment when he was hidden by the staircase, and witnessed Pouf’s En. He was stricken with panic. If it were Gon or Killua, they would obviously be terrified, but they would also know that it wasn’t as powerful as Pitou’s aura. Knov on the other hand thought it was Pitou’s to begin with.
Here’s the thing: Knov was already considerably panicked, having almost been found out, even if just by a subordinate. And he knew that something was off when he noticed that there was no En surrounding the Palace like usual. Therefore the pressure was much higher; this chance was not going to present itself again and if he didn’t succeed, the whole team would pretty much be doomed.
He was already breaking on the inside when he was creating the last exit. We need to give him credit for being able to create it at all, anyone else would have simply fled. Even in that dire state of panic and hopelessness, he finished his job and escaped.
It’s only when he’s well out of reach does he actually have a proper breakdown. And god, it was so brilliantly done. I have to mention Shinichiro Miki for delivering these lines so incredibly. I could feel Knov’s complete despair as he sat there and tried to grasp at anything that would help him pull through. I was moved to tears. It’s only now that he fully realises what Gon and Killua must have gone through, and he’s in absolute disbelief because these two kids, who aren’t even half his age, have gone through this much in the short time they’ve become hunters and are actually able to cope with it.
The difference between Knov and the kids is resolve. I’m not saying that Knov was spineless, but that Gon and Killua have a very real, concrete reason for standing up even after going through that much terror. They were directly impacted by it and saw themselves as hindrances to Kite in that situation, which is what spurred them on to save him. Knov on the other hand was of course well aware of the level of destruction the chimera ants were going to unleash, but he was not directly impacted by it. Of course a hero’s first thought should be to save people, but it is entirely human to want to save oneself. While Gon and Killua had a tangible motivator in order to fight, Knov did not.
Knov progressively becomes worse as the arc continues, immediately being afflicted with Marie Antoinette syndrome. As much as he wants to run, he still helps them out when necessary. It’s not like he has entirely abandoned the mission, he just no longer has the mental fortitude for it, which is entirely understandable! Instead of just retiring from the mission, he stayed on to support them, especially when it came to their fatal injuries during battle.
Which brings me to the matter of how Knov originally developed his ability. He does not actively involve himself in fighting, he lends his comrades support by using his Nen spaces. In other words, he leans more to the side of trickery when facing opponents. So even if he is battle hardened, it’s not in the same manner as the others. The fact that he is the first to have a mental breakdown is attributed to this.
Instead of taking his character at face value, I think it’s more appropriate to actually understand what happened to him. Even if hunters are much more advanced, they are still human. It’s important to keep that in mind when trying to evaluate their character.

⋯✰⋯
Chapter 3—
"Don't they have anything at least a LITTLE flattering? I get they're like hippie-extremists, but not all of us want to look like a sack of potatoes," you complained, swiping through their clothing racks that screamed no-potential-whatsoever.
You'd finally arrived at NGL headquarters, only for them to make the three of you throw out your phones and clothes. It's like they were still living in the 18th century.
"It's only clothes. Just pick whatever," Killua replied while browsing through the selection, though he looked equally as aggravated and bored. He did have at least some style that he wanted to upkeep.
Gon on the other hand didn't seem to care.
"You think they have anything green?" He wondered out loud.
You pulled out a set of white pants with a blue long sleeves top.
"Hey Killua."
"Yeah?"
You shoved the set into his arms, giving him a bright smile.
"Try this on, I think it would match your eyes well."
"Idiot. The Chimera Ants won't be looking at my eyes when we're fighting them." Pink dusted his cheeks as he looked to the side, avoiding eye contact.
He bought the outfit without even trying it on.
Gon pouted. "Wait, what about me?"
You pulled out two more similar sets. One was a pair of green pants and a white tank top, while the other was burgundy pants with a black top. That one was yours.
"We can all match!" You grinned, relieved you finally found something that wouldn't make you all look like homeless children. "Well, sort of." The sets were still different colors, but they retained the same general style.
"Oh, great idea Y/N! I'll go change into it now," Gon beamed, nearly skipping all the way to the changing room with his brand new green pants. It was about time he put on something different for a change, you inwardly joked.
Killua was already walking back from the stalls when Gon ran past him.
"Wow Killua, look at that drip~" You whistled, checking out his new outfit.
"You're so hopeless," he sighed, bonking the top of your head.
You rubbed where he had hit and stuck out your tongue, pretending to be hurt. It was the truth though, he looked really good in the outfit you had picked out. Peeking at him while he wasn't looking, you discovered that the tight-skinned long sleeves accentuated his arms in a way you'd never noticed before, hugging his lean muscles. You were right about the royal-colored shirt bringing out his pretty blue eyes. And the way his pale skin and white hair contrasted them even looked a little heavenly...
God, what were you thinking? If Killua heard you right now he'd hit you over the head another 20 times over. You looked to the floor, hoping he wouldn't see your growing blush.
After all three of you had changed into your new clothes, the hunt for the Chimera Ants began. Kite was on his own horse, while the rest of you fit on the second one due to your small frames. You were holding onto Gon's torso as he took control of the reins.
He was like a natural, his whole body moving in sync with the horse in strong determination. You trusted him, knowing that wouldn't just let you topple over. You weren't really used to horses, as they weren't typically found roaming around the jungle.
Then there was Killua, who was standing stick-straight on the horse like it was nothing.
"How do you even do that?!" You called out over the sound of galloping hooves.
"Huh, Do what? You mean this?" Killua smirked, doing a handstand.
You couldn't believe him. The boy had no fear at all.
"You're crazy," you stated, turning around to face Killua and leisurely leaning your back against Gon.
You had finally mastered balancing on the horse without having to hold onto him— but you had nowhere as near the skill Killua did.
"Maybe I am, but you love it," he teased, still upside-down. Temptingly enough, his white locks of hair were hanging upside-down too.
Slowly, you leaned forward on the palm of your hands, steadily closing in the distance between you two.
"Sure, I do. You got me there," you cooed, catching him off guard.
"Huh.." He sweatdropped, turning bright red. Killua's balance was starting to wobble.
Then, exploiting his moment of weakness, you tugged on his hair knocking him over.
Satisfied, you rested against Gon again. Thankfully the boy didn't seem to mind.
"Show off," You said, sticking your nose in the air.
"Man, that was so unfair!" Killua whined, sitting back down on the horse and dragging his hands down his face.
You crossed your arms, ready to deliver some witty comeback, when you noticed some bees in the distance that looked like they were carrying something. Squinting your eyes, you saw that they were flying in closer.
"Hey guys, look at that," you pointed out. The horses stopped as one of the bees dropped the paper in Kite's hand.
Help!!
Chimera Ant Nest, Rocky Area
Notify Hunter Association!!
An SOS? And it appeared to be written in blood.
You cast a worried glance at Gon, who looked disturbed.
"It's Ponzu..."
Ponzu...? The name wasn't familiar to you at all. That must be somebody Killua and Gon knew from before you had met them.
The bee fluttered defeatedly around you before making its landing on your ring finger. Kite made the decision to leave the horses, with a message for the Hunter Association.
Even though they ran faster on foot, it didn't take much time until you came across an unsettling scene.
Or, what was left of Ponzu.
Blood soaked the ground. Articles of ripped-up clothing scattered the dirt, and there was not even a bone in sight. The putrid smell of iron overwhelmed your nostrils.
It was fresh blood.
If you had arrived even 15 minutes earlier, maybe Gon and Killua's friend would not have so barbarically killed. You felt sick to your stomach.
'This wasn't done by a human'
"This was done by a Chimera Ant," Kite finished your thought.
The look on Gon's face scared you. Most of the time, Gon was a sweet boy on a journey to find his father. But sometimes, you could spot a festering darkness threatening to take over his very being. You knew he would never tolerate his friends getting hurt, but you couldn't help but wonder if Gon was self-sacrificing, or perhaps selfish?
"I hate to consider the possibility, but it's possible that NGL's underground rulers have already been fed to the queen. What will happen if Chimera Ants are born with their genes..?" Kite trailed off, studying one of the bullet casings in the murder scene.
An unprecedented biohazard never seen before in human history, is what that meant. The worst-case scenario had just happened.
⋯✰⋯
That wasn't the last disturbing scene the four of you came across. In front of you now were three decaying horses, each speared through the stomach by its own tree. They resembled grilled chicken and steak kebabs.
The scent was even worse than the last incident. This time, they were rotting. Killua and you both covered your noses, in an attempt to block out the stench.
"It's like a morning sacrifice," Gon stated.
You remembered what that was. Back at home, sometimes birds would impale their prey on sharp objects like branches. It wasn't a pretty sight, but it was the circle of life. What kind of monster could do this to not just one, but three 1,000 ton horses?
Your question was answered quicker than you had hoped.
"Trash. Those are mine!" The monster in question growled as he stepped foot out of the dense forest.
He looked like an overgrown bunny, with wings of a bird, thick-ass thighs, and seaweed green hair. And as for the vibe he gave off? You could safely assume he was just a stupid man-child.
"Wow. You're ugly," you deadpanned.
"You wanna say that again little brat?" He snarled, making the first move and charging right after you.
You quickly dodged his attack, but not before he came in contact with your arm. That was gonna leave a bruise.
Kite activated his aura, temporarily distracting the bunny-monster. It seemed to have noticed the change in atmosphere.
No way...was it possible? Had it already learned about the power of nen?
"Y/N, Gon, Killua... You three must deal with him yourselves. We'll be encountering more Chimera Ant soldiers like him. I won't be able to help you during combat, so if you can't defeat him, you will have to leave." Kite stepped back from the fight.
You nodded, Gon and Killua mirroring you. The three of you understood what hung in the fate of this fight.
"We told you before Kite, we're pros, not just kids!"
In sync, you all activated your nen together.
"Did you hear that bunny? I'm about to blow off those weird speedos of yours into the next dimension." You raised your hand in front of you, manipulating the wind to blow him away with every step that you advanced.
Killua was already in the air, prepared to test his thunder-bolt. In a flash of blue, dozens of lightning strikes were being zapped into the ant, immobilizing him. Gon's charged punch was enough to send him flying across the sky.
You saw his tail-puff shrink and sparkle in the distance as he was about to disappear, until something fast and unidentifiable swept him away.
Someone had been watching.
"He let his soldier do the fighting so that he could learn our abilities," Kite explained while walking towards the three of you again.
Gon and Killua looked disappointed. You hadn't even gotten a chance to use much of your powers during that fight. If you had finished it off, would that have been enough to prove yourselves?
"Are you coming?"
You looked up at Kite.
"There's no need to feel down, your attacks weren't that bad. You just need experience now. If you wish to become stronger, this is a perfect opportunity... But if you aren't prepared, you won't be able to endure it. Whether we win or lose, hell lies ahead of us." Kite finished off, looking at each one of you in the eye with a resolute stare.
You knew that. Gon and Killua knew that also.
Even so, all three of you were prepared and eager to do whatever it takes to strengthen yourselves and help Kite save NGL.
⋯✰⋯
Kite looked serene as the light of the small campfire lit up his features. He and Gon had caught some fish for dinner earlier, while Killua and you set up camp. Now, you sat brushing arms with Killua, who was sitting next to Gon, who was huddled up close to Kite. The night was quiet, except for the cicadas singing in the trees and the thoughts running through you and your friend's minds.
There was a lot to think about.
Gon and Killua hadn't even been given the time to grieve over the loss of their past acquaintance, before being hit with the hard-hitting truth that the Ants were already evolving at a nightmarish rate. Nobody knew how many had gone missing or even more so been eaten. Yet everyone knew that the death count had already surpassed comprehensible numbers. Most likely, not everybody here would make it out alive.
But, the three of you consistently have proven the odds wrong. You held onto that fact like you held onto your pendant.
It reassured you.
It was obvious that the three of you had become inseparable over the past two years.
After you met Gon and Killua at Heaven's Arena, you'd never left each other's side.
Nobody would be going home without the other, because you had all found home within each other.
"Hey, Kite? What was your dad like?" Gon asked.
Kite looked up at the boy, surprised by the sudden question. Turning his eyes to the starry night sky, he exhaled a breath of cold air.
"I didn't know him. He disappeared when I was a child."
Gon hummed, waiting for Kite to continue. He knew that feeling too. It was an icy and empty feeling, not having a father figure in your life to guide you, praise you.
"I have very few memories of him, but they've all muddled together by now. Sometimes I can't tell if they're real or if I've convinced myself they are."
"....I think Ging would thank you."
This brought Kite's attention back to Gon.
"Thank me for what?"
"Well... You've been like a sort of mentor for me ever since we met, back on Whale Island. If it weren't for you, I would never have even become a hunter. Maybe I'm just a kid, but the past month it felt like I.. like I had a dad."
Your heart ached for Gon, who had been searching this whole time for his father in everyone he met and everything he saw. Gently, you placed your hand over his and squeezed it, wishing you could be of more comfort to him. Wishing you could turn back time and bring Ging back to his home, to Gon.
Kite's eyes softened as he looked at the boy, who offered a wobbly smile.
"Ging would be proud of you," he said, ruffling Gon's spiky hair.
That night, the glimmering moonlight had brought out your most vulnerable selves. You felt a honey-like warmth grow inside of you— a new member had just been added to your family. Killua seemed content, happy that his friend was smiling. And Gon's eyes matched the twinkling stars as he looked up to Kite like he was the most wonderful thing.
It was a special night. You knew deep down that you would treasure it, for a long time to come.

The Top 10 Anime Villains Who Just Won't Die!
Editor's Note: This is a republication of a feature by Nicole Mejias that originally appeared on Crunchyroll News on 5/21/18.
---
It’s often said that a good hero needs an equally good villain, and certainly there are many infamous villains to choose from. Rivalries are made, evil plans are thwarted, and the heroes celebrate their hard earned victories with the vanquishing of their foes. However, not every villain is so easy to get rid of, and some linger on long after they’re dead to cause even more problems!
In this list, let's take a look at the top 10 villains who just refused to stay dead, gone, and buried! And as a warning, this article contains a LOT of spoilers, so read with caution!
  10. Neferpitou (Hunter x Hunter)
Anime fans can at least celebrate that the vanquishing of Neferpitou didn’t take the quite literal decade that it did in the manga, but the Chimera Ant villain certainly haunted Gon for a long time! Neferpitou had easily killed Gon’s mentor and hero Kite, and reanimated his corpse to use a training toy. Gon, unaware that he was dead, refused to give up on the chance to save his mentor and defeat this extremely powerful enemy. Unfortunately for Gon, Neferpitou vastly outclassed him, as to be expected of one of the Chimera Ant King’s Royal Guards! Neferpitou’s loyalty to the king leads to their undoing, but not before a protracted battle of wits with Gon over the life of Komugi.
Once Neferpitou reveals to Gon that Kite is long dead and unable to be restored, Gon flies into a rage, leading to the iconic scenes where Gon’s Nen ages him, growing his power (and his hair!) to legendary proportions. Outclassed, Neferpitou dies happy, knowing that Gon is unable to get to the king, but even in death Neferpitou haunts Gon further, as their Nen ability Terpsichora activates, seemingly reviving the fallen foe! Distracted and enraged, Gon mercilessly beats his enemy’s corpse until Killua stops him… and falls into a coma, his body nearly destroyed and his life almost snuffed out from the battle! It takes a literal miracle to revive Gon much later, and it’s safe to safe Neferpitou won’t be forgotten by Gon or us any time soon!
  9. Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti (Re:ZERO)
Petelgeuse is surely a memorable villain from an aesthetic point of view with his distinct looks and voice, but the way in which he easily defeats Subaru, causing the protagonist to despair that there may be no good outcome against this foe, is one of the defining storylines of Re:ZERO. Petelgeuse seems to have Subaru figured out, and no matter how many times Subaru resets the timeline, he always seems to come up short against the foe, watching his friends suffer and die in various awful ways each time he tries to find a new route to victory.
Not only that, but Petelgeuse almost seems able to guess Subaru’s special ‘reset’ ability, and nearly succeeds in possessing him and ending the story for good! It isn’t until numerous deaths and resets that Subaru develops a working plan, and even then Petelgeuse nearly destroys Subaru. As Subaru writes “The End” in Petelgeuse’s gospel in his own blood, the deranged priest is finally killed after his body is crushed and torn to pieces! We’ll have to wait and see what type of impact Petelgeuse really left on Subaru, but to be sure he was the most difficult foe so far, and on that certainly left Subaru a changed man!
  8. Junko Enoshima (Dangan Ronpa)
We warned you about spoilers above, so if you’re still reading and are interested in checking out Dangan Ronpa unspoiled, we suggest you turn back now! In the Dangan Ronpa series (both anime and games) there’s no one quite as twisted and evil as Junko Enoshima, the mastermind behind the initial murder game, as well as the leader of a cult dedicated to bringing her twisted sense of despair to the world! Junko seemingly dies right away in Dangan Ronpa, only for it to be later revealed that it was her own sister who she happily murdered! Junko reveals herself as the mastermind behind Monokuma, having lead the students to murdering each other and laughing all the way!
Despite being killed at the end of the first Dangan Ronpa, the second game (which didn’t have an anime, sadly!) reveals that Junko lives on as Junko Alter, a computer virus seeking to continue her twisted legacy! In the second anime series, Danganon Ronpa 3, Junko appears in both the Despair and Hope routes, showing us how she gained her position of power and set up the initial game. And in the Hope route, Junko’s ghost seems bewildered to watch the antics of the cast’s struggle, before fading away, hopefully forever. Junko may not be the most ‘hands on’ villain, but she’s certainly a troublesome one who caused a literal world of despair, and whose legacy seems poised to last long after she’s dead.
  7. Tao Pai Pai  (Dragon Ball / Dragon Ball Z)
Usually, a returning villain is a major hindrance to the protagonist, presenting them with constant roadblocks to success. That’s not quite the case for Tao Pai Pai, who goes from being one of the deadliest foes Goku ever met to a comically inept weakling. First appearing during Goku’s attempts to gather the Dragon Balls at the employ of Commander Red, Tao Pai Pai is one of Goku’s first truly dangerous opponents. Tao is shown to be cunning, cold, and murderous, killing numerous people simply because he wants to, and almost kills Goku! Goku eventually defeats Tao, and if not for the assassin’s cowardly attempts to get the last laugh, might have lived unscathed; instead, Goku deflects his grenade back to him, leaving Tao for dead.
Later, however, it turns out Tao Pai Pai is far from dead, re-appearing with cybernetic upgrades and bent on killing Tien and Goku! Vastly outclassed by the powerful Tien, he doesn’t show up again until the Cell Games in Dragon Ball Z as little more than comic relief, but still as evil and conniving as usual!
6. Toguro Brothers  (Yu Yu Hakusho)
There probably isn’t a more iconic villain in Yu Yu Hakusho than Younger Toguro and his demonically powered muscled form, but even without that recognition, these two Toguros are a thorn in Yusuke and company’s side for the entire series, with Elder Toguro being the longest recurring villain in the show! First showing up during the Spirit Detective arc of the show, the Toguros are a formidable pair of bodyguards to the despicable Tarukane. In a fierce battle against Yusuke and Kuwabara, the pair of heroes are barely victorious against the powerful brothers, and it seems as if Kuwabara has killed Younger Toguro with a sword to the chest.
Shortly after, however, we learn that really wasn’t the case, and sure enough the Toguros re-emerge, forcing Yusuke and the others to fight in the Dark Tournament! Toguro constantly pushes Yusuke to become more powerful, and seems to get his wish, eventually dying to Yusuke’s powered up form. However, the Elder Toguro survives after being presumed dead, reappearing from inside the body of Gourmet during the Chapter Black saga! While his brother only seemed impossible to defeat, Elder Toguro truly seems to be immortal, and it takes a cunning attack by Kurama to sentence the Elder Toguro to a life of never ending punishment, where he can’t hurt anyone again!
5. Orochimaru (Naruto / Naruto Shippuden / Boruto)
When we think of returning villains, Orochimaru is certainly pretty high on that list, perhaps redeemed by the fact that he seems to make amends for his villainy by the end of the series, appearing in Boruto as a neutral character (so far). Still, many anime fans probably can’t forget the first time Orochimaru slithered into the story, and his constant meddling and capture of Sasuke lead to one of the most iconic moments in the entire series: Naruto vs. Sasuke. Orochimaru certainly made himself known throughout the series, utilizing his ability to body hop and revive himself numerous times before being seemingly sealed away and defeated by Itachi.
That sense of victory was short lived, however, as Sasuke himself releases Orochimaru to get answers. This proves to be a turning point for the snake ninja, as he realizes Sasuke is now far too powerful to possess, and instead the once head villain of the series begins his path to something resembling redemption. That said, who knows where Boruto will go, so Orochimaru might end up going back to his old tricks once again...
4. Shou Tucker (Fullmetal Alchemist [2003])
Now if this list were the Top 10 Worst Human Beings Ever, Shou Tucker would certainly be #1 with a bullet (or an alchemically powered hand through the face). However, Shou’s return in the original Fullmetal Alchemist anime was a total (and unwanted) surprise, as the series deviated from the manga quite a bit. While Scar had the pleasure of killing Shou in the manga, in the anime Shou vanishes into ‘military custody’... until he suddenly re-emerges as a chimera!
Shou’s mind is more gone than it was the first time, obsessed with trying to revive his daughter… the same one he turned into a chimera. Shou doesn’t meet his maker this time either, being left in the anime an obsessed failure trying to regain what he lost. We won’t really spend time trying to rationalize this despicable man’s actions, but suffice to say fans at the time were thoroughly shocked to see this terrible man-thing appear again!
  3. Char Aznable  (Mobile Suit Gundam)
It wouldn’t be far to claim that without Char, Mobile Suit Gundam may not have been as successful as it was. Amuro was an amazing, if flawed, protagonist, and he desperately needed an equally flawed and interesting rival. Char Aznable was easily able to take that position, and the Zeon pilot wreaked havoc on Amuro, pushing the Newtype to defeat him. Char is last seen giving Kycilla Zabi a unique one bazooka salute, before himself disappearing in the impending explosion. However, during the events of Zeta Gundam, a mysterious and charismatic man by the name of Quattro Bajeena shows up. Char’s alias is almost too heroic, coming across as one of the most helpful and good characters in the series, but as with most things dealing with Char, his motives are never that easy to discern.
Char re-emerges as himself during the events of Char’s Counterattack, and he and Amuro resume their rivalry, this time seemingly finishing each other off as their Psycoframe equipped suits overload, leaving both men MIA and presumed dead at the end. However, as of Gundam Unicorn, it seems part of Char is still around, emerging as Full Frontal. The conclusion of Unicorn sees the original Gundam Newtypes are reunited in spirit form, and Char, Lalah, and Amuro seemingly reconcile, ready to finally fade away.
2. Frieza (Dragon Ball Z / Dragon Ball Super)
While Goku had faced numerous powerful foes in both Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, Frieza may be the most iconic and infamous foe, cementing the series as a fan favorite and introducing fans to Super Saiyan Goku, having pushed the fighter to his limits. Frieza is one of the deadliest foes Goku ever meets, and a truly despicable and selfish person, concerned only with achieving immortality and taking over the universe, or killing everyone in it! Goku eventually defeats Frieza, leaving him to potentially survive, until the selfish alien seemingly kills himself with his own desperate final attack. However, when things seem to have calmed down on Earth, Frieza (now cybernetically enhanced!) returns… only to be quickly cut down by Trunks!
Frieza appears a few times during the Majin Buu saga, but mostly as a commentator on the fight against Buu, and has been seemingly finally vanquished… until the movie Resurrection of F! Having escaped Hell, Frieza re-appears on Earth, and his new Golden Frieza form once again makes him an imposing foe. However, his usual failings cost him again, and is this time defeated by Vegeta and Goku. However, this would still not be the end for him, as the Universe Survival Saga sees Frieza return… as a good guy?! That’s right, sort of! Frieza agrees to help Goku in the Universe Survival Tournament on the condition that he get revived. In true Frieza fashion, it becomes hard to figure out what his intentions really are, but in the end he and Goku make an odd couple pairing that, with the help of Android 17, save the day (Frieza even sacrifices himself!). But, as of the closing scenes of Dragon Ball Super, Frieza probably hasn’t learned much, so it’s likely we’ll see him clashing with our heroes once again!
1. Dio  (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)
If you already guessed the #1 spot on this list, congratulations! If you not, well, we won’t make that joke, but you probably know the one we mean! Sometimes a villain truly makes a series, and Dio is definitely that villain. While the heroes of JoJo’s various arcs are all great, they wouldn’t be half as compelling without the truly awful Dio to stand against. And even when Dio isn’t the central villain, his influence is lingering in the background. From his initial rise to immortality against Jonathan Joestar to eventually stealing the body of his hated rival to the revival of the Pillar Men brought on by people’s fascination with the Stone Masks to the return of Dio in Stardust Crusaders, Dio and the Joestars are forever linked in combat.
But even when the spotlight drifts from Dio in Diamond is Unbreakable, his machinations with the nature of Stands leads to the Arrow finding its way to Morioh-Cho and wreaking havoc as new stand users emerge! And, while they haven’t been animated yet, we’ll just simply say that Dio’s influence in the future JoJo storylines is not to be underestimated… When you least expect it, Dio might just strike again!
Do you have any favorite seemingly immortal villains that heroes just can’t seem to get rid of? Let us know in the comments!

What are your thoughts about everything that just happened, give it to us
What just happened? I witnessed hatred. I felt the hatred. I have never seen a display of hatred in anime that comes close to the level of hatred I saw last Saturday night. That was a personal vendetta that exceeded any level I thought was even possible in the entire world of Hunter x Hunter.
Tumblr media
You know how in school, when that one kid was clearly fuming (school analogy because Gon is 12? btw or is he anymore that’s another fucking topic for another section of this), absolutely nothing anyone said would change their mood from friends to teachers to disciplinary figures, etc. They would ignore everything everyone said, and everyone knew they wanted to fight. They wanted to fight more than anything else in their life. That was Gon for the entirety of this arc. I said this for weeks.
I could tell he was not listening to anything anyone was saying. He was so angry from the murder of his lifelong mentor that he was not going to be moved from his decisions. This was obvious when things that would normally elevate Gon’s mood no longer did so. Killua (bless his soul) had the agony of witnessing this first hand. They would go on recon missions, and Killua would try to make small-talk with Gon, only to find that Gon was not listening or did not care. That shit hurts, especially when Killua knows damn well that Gon is already upset, and he’s doing his best to try to make his friend feel better. I also said this for weeks.
However, even at this point, things are still not as bad as what I witnessed last Saturday night. At this point, things are still salvageable. This is obvious when Morel (bless his soul) asked Gon to prepare an attack imagining his opponent as if they were Neferpitou. Gon starts to get that fucking look in his eyes and invests his emotional power into his Nen. Killua steps in to calm him down, and it works.
They plan their attack on the palace in a Nen-dimension Knov (bless his soul) created, and Gon shows signs of not paying attention to anything that doesn’t have to do with Neferpitou. For weeks, the only things that fuel his desire to listen to what others have to say is whether or not he thinks it will “help Kite”. This is past the point of unhealthy, and others are noticing it. No one knows how bad things really are. I have an idea of how bad things are in the form of a pit in my stomach that was getting denser and denser for weeks. I was naive. If the worst-case scenario in my mind at this point in the series played out last Saturday night, it would’ve been a miracle. Meleoron was right. Meleoron was underestimating.
As soon as they get inside the palace, literally within seconds (emphasis on seconds), Gon already deviates from the plan. Sure in the strategy of the attack, his deviation saved the lives of his teammates and helped preserve the plan’s future steps, but I guarantee you that whatever sliver of strategy managed to form in his mind would not have happened if Neferpitou was also in the room. Gon wanted to find Neferpitou as soon as he entered that palace. Youpi was the most significant lead he had on figuring anything out about Neferpitou’s location, and that is 100% why he attacked Youpi immediately. It’s very likely that if Neferpitou was also in that stair room that the entire plan would have crumbled because of Gon. If Gon ran towards Neferpitou, it would’ve allowed Youpi to gain the advantage of attacking the team first and likely claiming lives very quickly. I remember in this episode how happy I was that Neferpitou wasn’t in the stair room because of what might’ve happened. After witnessing what I saw last Saturday night, there would’ve been a better outcome if they were on the stairs too.
Komugi (bless her soul) is now involved, and this is where things get much worse than I expected. This isn’t the worst case scenario yet, but it’s a disaster and a series of events that I know within this ever-growing pit in my stomach that they will never get closure. Meurem (bless his Komugi-loving soul) is already distraught that Komugi got injured from a bird attack, and he assigns Neferpitou to take care of Komugi’s injuries immediately since she got injured on their watch. Neferpitou wants to play with the new Nen power that has just entered their radius, and Netero sends them far away while Dragon Dive falls. Neferpitou hurtles themselves back to the palace to find Meurem holding an unconscious and bleeding Komugi in his arms. Neferpitou is now immensely sorry that they let their selfish attitude interfere with the duties the king assigned to them. You can see it in their eyes. You can see it in everyone’s eyes. The king silently but desperately is asking for help, one of the most human things he has ever done. (This is another topic that I could go on forever about I love the two of them so much.) These are the first tears that fall from Neferpitou’s eyes. My eyes are sobbing. The king has to take care of the intruders, but he knows if Neferpitou stays to help Komugi, he’ll be at a disadvantage without the information that Neferpitou’s En provides. Okay I’m actually done talking about this because I love Meurem. Point is, things are worse now. Still, they are not as bad as what’s to come.
Now Neferpitou is fixed to one spot basically guaranteeing that Gon will be the one to find them because Neferpitou is not searching/hunting/detecting at all. Neferpitou is not a fearsome Chimera Ant Royal Guard using their En to detect, intimidate, and emit pressure to their enemy. Neferpitou is now a protective mother.
Gon finds out where they are, and things immediately get worse again. Worse than anything I’d feared. I said for weeks that Gon was going to do villainous things when he found Neferpitou again. I could even begin to expect what happened. Gon’s hatred explodes exponentially at the exact moment Neferpitou turns around. He’s enraged. He’s in hysterics. He’s not himself. At this moment I’m in more fear than I’ve ever been in because Neferpitou shows 0 sign of aggression or even curiosity about fighting Gon. This goes against every note I ever had about this arc. Neferpitou shows signs of submission at increasingly extreme levels to no avail (crying now btw remembering this scene because I still hear that sound in my head) while Gon exceeds his levels of hatred with each sentence that comes out of his mouth. Neferpitou is exuding desperation because they want to try their hardest to help the king after messing up. They acted on a selfish impulse at the very beginning of the invasion, and now they are completely and utterly selfless, shown through the act of bringing harm to their own body. Alright I’m done talking about this part ;_;
Nobody is okay with things at this point. Nobody should be okay with things at this point. Killua is the reminder for this. Even Killua, who has no clue about the context or the meaning behind what’s going on unlike us, can tell that things are not like how they were during their first encounter with Neferpitou. Killua is the reminder that if you’re not already disturbed and emotionally turned by what has happened, you fucking should be now. The closing sentences and closing images of this episode show you just how long things have been not well inside Gon. He just told Killua, his best friend and partner in his entire adventure as a Hunter, that this fight has nothing to do him. In this moment, Killua isn’t in the picture, and hasn’t been in the picture for who knows how long. It’s very likely now that his hatred is manifesting and warping his entire psychological makeup. He thinks this entire thing was a personal attack on him, and it’s the mantra he’s been telling himself like lines on a chalkboard over and over and over again. To him, in this moment, Killua is irrelevant. Shoutout to Killua for being there even though he was heartbroken because he still prevented Gon from killing Neferpitou (a defenseless healing mother) and probably also Komugi. Gon still has some grip on reality here.
Now things are worse, and I’m agonized by how worse things are getting still. Gon is making demands and using Komugi as leverage to get what he wants while also holding her hostage. He’s on a thin wire. He’s within 5 feet of Neferpitou, literally breathing down their neck, and his hatred is brewing still. He’s in conflict right now. Those lines on the chalkboard that he repeated to himself have been contradicted. This Neferpitou is not villainous in any way. This Neferpitou would never kill Kite. His conflict creates more hatred because he’s confused. His empathy is completely gone. Everything turns into generating more hatred. Everything is Neferpitou’s fault to him. At this point, I thought he was thinking these thoughts, but that was going to become painfully clear at a later point.
Komugi is “healed” now, and if you thought Komugi was in danger because of Gon, Hunter x Hunter is here to remind you weekly that in this arc, whatever your worst case scenario is, things can always be worse. Now Shaiapouf is involved. I tried my hardest to avoid bringing this piece of shit up if I could help it, but if I’m going to go through the painful memories of recounting exactly what I thought about last Saturday night’s episode (which by the way, yes this is all important to know if you want to truly understand how I felt last Saturday night, so if you’ve legitimately read this far, thank you.), then I have to mention Shaiapouf because his petty jealousy of Komugi plays a role in Neferpitou’s death which fucking sucks. Neferpitou needs someone to deliver Komugi to the king. Neferpitou desperately needs the king to know that they performed their duty to the best of their ability given the circumstances to show their love for the king. Neferpitou needs the king to know Komugi will be okay. The only person who would even viably be capable of doing this would be Pouf. Of course that isn’t going to happen. Pouf is playing his own games. Pouf has his own agenda. Pouf is creating more chaos within this already tumultuous situation. Not only is Pouf not going to help Neferpitou, but now that Pouf understands the consequences of going against Gon’s demands, he actively instigates to gain the upper hand himself. I hate Pouf.
Komugi is in Killua’s handling now, and she’s terrified. (I’m not going into this detail because it’s another topic I could go on forever about just know I love Komugi she is precious and deserves the world and her dear leader). In this situation, Killua is probably the best person she could be with because she will be safest with him even though she’s being manipulated by Pouf and being taken advantage of because of her blindness and unconsciousness to believe otherwise. With Komugi out in the open (wow a lot of this shit happened in one terrible stressful bad horrible anxious room), Neferpitou and Gon make the most somber walk to go “help Kite”. Neferpitou “gets a call from Komugi” saying that she’s okay and that she’s going to go be with the king. Neferpitou is content at this point. They have “completed their task”. They can confidently break the truth to Gon, repair their arm, and kill him knowing that the king recognized their deed. In hindsight, this is a double-edged sword.
Because Pouf tricked Neferpitou into thinking Komugi was safe, regardless of his motives, he gave Neferpitou the catalyst they needed to transition back into “Chimera Ant Royal Guard”. I think this phone call contributed to the direct events that led to Neferpitou’s death, no matter how inevitable it was. What do I think would’ve happened if Neferpitou never received that call? I think they would’ve told Gon the truth about Kite, repaired their arm, and then gone back to the palace immediately to rescue and continue aiding Komugi however possible in their fully-restore condition. Everything I saw about Neferpitou’s character in that room motivates me to say that. But that did not happen. As far as Neferpitou is concerned, Komugi is safe, and at the very least, they died happy knowing they were able to help Komugi for the king. So I never thought I’d be thanking Shaiapouf for anything, but I’d like to think Neferpitou was happy in their dying moments for that reason.
There’s one final thing that needs to be discussed before last Saturday night can be talked about. (Yes, this is all prefacing how I feel about Episode 131, so again, thank you to anyone that has legitimately read THIS far. I appreciate it.) While Gon sees Kite in his current state, limp on the floor, he’s breaking down. He’s coming to terms with reality.* He realizes that Kite cannot be saved.* He acknowledges that Kite has been killed.* He owns up to his own irresponsibility that led to Kite’s death.* He’s finally on the same page as the rest of us.* Through his tears, he sees Neferpitou is going to fix Kite.* Wait.
* - Psyche btw because these things literally did not happen.
And now it’s over. Now I have accepted the thing I have feared for weeks. For months. Now I embrace and wait for the inevitable. I have nightmares about it. I dread it. I try my best not to think about it even though the possibilities consume my thoughts. And let me make this explicitly clear…
Even at this point up until I saw the events with my own eyes, I could not have dreamed, imagined, or thought of a more brutal death if I wanted to.
Like I said in the beginning, I witnessed surreal hatred. Seven days later, it still doesn’t fucking feel real. It’s not that it’s unrealistic, I just now completely understand the exact depth of Gon’s hatred for Neferpitou, and I realize I never even fathomed how much he hated them despite me talking about it for months. Neferpitou was willing to put their own life on the line to help Komugi. Gon was willing to put his own life on the line to kill. Kill is putting what I saw lightly. The worst version of Gon I could think of was tame compared to what I saw. The moment all that energy came swirling into the room to manifest into that monster I saw Gon become before he transformed, I knew I would not blame Neferpitou for anything they decided to do from that moment on. I knew they would do whatever they could to take his life… I knew they would fail… I knew what I saw Gon transform into was not only powerful enough to overtake Neferpitou, it was overkill. Gon didn’t think about how much power he needed to kill Neferpitou. He just needed to obtain power to kill Neferpitou. There was no upper limit. He hated Neferpitou so much that he shortened his own life just to ensure that they would die. As far as what happened afterwards, I know I remember thinking how beautiful every frame of their eyes was. I knew there would come a point where I wouldn’t be able to say that anymore. It was gruesome :( I was upset at every moment of the murder, and every direct action caused my sadness to intensify. The knee, the blast, the impact, the image of their face… After that, it was all out, I just knew I might as well cry in full because what was happening wasn’t going to stop anytime soon. It didn’t stop when it should have. That’s the part I cried at the most. Tears are forming as I remember it. It wasn’t just a symbolic and ironic beheading. It was blood-lust. It was as brutal as watching two animals fight to the death. Neither of those two were human. Even after Neferpitou lost their head, they still fought. I cried for them, knowing that even after consciousness left their body, it was still being attacked. Terpsichora manifesting into its strongest form after being released from the limitations of Neferpitou’s power just made it more tragic. They truly loved the king. They really put their life on the line for the king - to protect the king.
With the final moment of Gon impaling his severed arm into Neferpitou’s beheaded body, that’s all I have to say. I could talk about Neferpitou forever. I tried my best to restrict my comments about Neferpitou to the most important ones, but to be honest, I thought about their entire life last Saturday night. We were there when they were born. We knew everything there was to know about Neferpitou, and the sad part is that’s it. I probably omitted some things too, but this is probably more than what you were even asking for.
I love Neferpitou, and I love Hunter x Hunter.

How do you think the narrative handled Ging's character? I still can't get over the fact that he just believed Gon could overcome every challenge and survive with his friends' help. He didn't seem to care about his mental health. Seems like a bad shounen cliche. Will Togashi adress it at some point, I mean, deconstructing Ging like he did with Gon (who always got what he wanted because of his determination and optimism untill chimera ant arc) or maybe I just don't understand his character?
Hello anon! Sorry if I took a while!
So my simplest answer to your question on how the narrative handled Ging is: I think Togashi has just begun with him and so it is difficult to say how he will be used and explored in the future.
As a matter of fact the Election arc where Ging appeared for the first time is basically a short arc which serves both as a closure to the first part of the manga with Gon and Killua separating and each one ending a significant part of their arc:
Tumblr media
And as an introduction arc to new characters like the Zodiacs who will be at the centre of future arcs. Among these characters Ging and Pariston in particular are set up as important and will probably get arcs of their own.
In short, right now trying to predict where Ging’s character will go or to give a final judgement on him would be equivalent to basically doing the same with Gon based on the first three volumes of the manga.
What’s more, I think that thoughts on Ging should be divided into two categories.
a) Thoughts on him as a central part of Gon’s arc since he has been Gon’s main motivation up until they met.
b) Thoughts on him as a character with his own arc and personal involvement into the main plot.
So I’ll try to give you some thoughts on him by foiling him with two other characters: Silva Zoldyck and Gon himself. In particular the first will help me analyze him as Gon’s father, while comparing him to Gon will help me trying to define him better as his own character.
1) Silva and Ging
Silva and Ging are the fathers of our two main characters and Gon and Killua foil each other in how they relate to their families.
Gon wants to become a hunter like his father, while Killua doesn’t want to become an assassin like his. These opposite attitudes are due to the different treatment they received from their parent:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gon and Killua’s problems with their fathers are opposite.
Gon has been left behind.
Killua has been controlled.
These opposite style of parenting are at the root of Gon and Killua’s opposite flaws.
Because of Silva (and Illumi)’s teachings KIllua is prone to give up too easily, to be too prudent and to lack willingness:
Tumblr media
On the other hand because of Ging’s challenge Gon feels motivated to put himself into dangerous situations:
Tumblr media
He also feels pressured in proving himself as his fight with Razor shows:
Tumblr media
What’s interesting is that both fathers seem to have realized at one point that the traits they have tried to make Gon and Killua develop have become too preponderant and have ended up damaging the two children too much.
This is what Milluki and Zeno say about Killua:
Tumblr media
Let’s leave Milluki’s comment about Killua having friends out and let’s concentrate on the fact that he implies that Killua is mentally weak to which Zeno agrees with. This description is coherent with Killua’s tendency to be unable to handle psychological pressure and to run away:
Tumblr media
However, he developed this tendency because he has been taught so as Silva’s speech above and Illumi’s needle demonstrate.
On the other hand let’s look at what Gon tells Ging during his breakdown when he meets his father for the first time:
Tumblr media
Here Gon is expressing all his guilt over what happened to Kite. He considers himself the one responsible for Kite’s metamorphosis because he has internalized that he has to be strong and he did so because Ging put in front of him a series of challenges (the hunter exam, Greed Island and so on) which demanded it from Gon. The message Ging delivered to Gon wasn’t to be happy and to have fun, but to be strong and that he had to earn the right to meet Ging. This led Gon to basically develop an irrealistic vision of what he should be able to do.
Ging seems to have realized it to an extent and tells Gon this:
Tumblr media
In this speech Ging stresses how what happened to Kite wasn’t Gon’s fault, but at the same time he still gives a lot of importance to one’s personal strength and invites Gon to become stronger once again. As you noticed this is a shonen cliche and it is the shonen cliche which was partly deconstructed in the Chimera Ant Arc: the idea that being strong matters.
Ging’s interest in Gon’s strength is once again hinted here:
Tumblr media
He accepted to meet Gon, but he still set up a trial for him before their meeting. This trial is very minor considering Gon’s abilities and everything he has been through, but it’s still there.
That said, we should also consider that Ging was the one who told Gon this:
Tumblr media
Basically he told Gon to stop and to try to figure out for himself what he wants from his life. This is not a bad advice and is probably what Gon needs to do now. Ging even underlines how Gon not being able to use nen is actually not too much of a high price to pay considering he got to basically come back to life. This is a different approach from the one he had shown up until that moment which emphasized the necessity for Gon to be strong.
So, do I think Ging has suddenly become a better parent after seeing how much Gon suffered because of his irrational challenges?
Not at all. His flaws at parenting are probably still there and his foiling with Silva helps us shading light on them:
Tumblr media
As a matter of fact Silva too, like Ging, showed a strange change in his behaviour as a parent when he let Killua leave home. He told Killua he was free to do as he wanted and he even made him promise not to betray his friends. This is strange considering the fact that both Milluki and Illumi have commented multiple times that friends are unimportant. Why did Silva do it then?
He explains it immediately later: Silva let Killua go because he thinks this is the best way to nurture him as the next heir of the family. My personal theory is that he realized Killua’s tendency to run away and to change his mind continuously may go in the way of him inheriting the family business. It’s true the heir should give his life to the family, but it’s also true he can’t be completely subdued to one of his siblings like the Hunter Exam proved Killua to be to Illumi. In short, I think Silva’s intentions are to have Killua man up and to develop his personality more by using the friendships Killua forged as motivators. So we have a parenting choice that might make sense and might also have positive consequences (as we have seen it had for Killua’s development), but it is a choice which absolutely doesn’t change the fact that Silva is a horrible father:
Tumblr media
Just after Silva’s heartwarming chat with Killua we are given evidence that he still considers Killua as an extension of himself. Let’s underline the fact that Ging says the same line here:
Tumblr media
So, it makes sense to assume that, if Silva considers Killua an extension of himself, so does Ging with Gon. It’s just that in Silva’s case we know what he wants from Killua (him inheriting the family business), while in Ging’s case it’s possible he doesn’t want anything in particular from Gon if not thrill and entertainment:
Tumblr media
Ging said so himself multiple times: he doesn’t care about the result, but he wants an enjoyable journey. It’s probable he left behind a series of hints Gon was free to follow or not. If he had followed them (as he did), Ging would have had fun trying to foresee his development, if he hadn’t… then never mind:
Tumblr media
In short while Silva needs Killua to follow a specific path, Ging doesn’t care what Gon does. They are two extremes and they are both bad.
That said, in the interactions he had with Gon Ging was decent and gave him useful advice, but at the same time you can see how in his speeches there is still a lot of focus on strength and on one’s worth based on one’s talents. He is also never the one to start an interaction with Gon. Gon is always the one running after him or calling him.
Another point of comparison between Ging and Silva is their behaviour during the Election Arc. As a matter of fact both haven’t had an active role in trying to influence their children’s fates in that arc, but both have been hinted to actually know more than what they let on and to have observed their children pretty closely.
At first sight it may seem that Killua’s main enemy in his family is Illumi and Illumi is the character he has always clashed with since the beginning. However, this arc makes clear that, despite not having acted in any particular way, Silva is always there observing his children and monitoring them:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Killua assumes that his father simply wants to monitor Alluka and to find a way to control her, while Illumi wants to kill her. However, his phone call with Illumi shows how Illumi’s own plan to kill Alluka could come to be only because Silva set the terrain for it by declaring Alluka not a part of the family. If Silva had made clear that, despite being despicable, Alluka was to be considered a family member Illumi would have probably given up the idea of killing her. This is a minor detail, but it may suggest that Silva will be a more proactive antagonist in the future.
On the other hand Ging, despite showing absolutely no intention to act to save Gon, is implied to have known since the beginning how things would have turned out:
Tumblr media
Pariston says as much. He realized Ging was sure Gon would have been saved and based his whole strategy to win the election on this assumption. At the same time I don’t believe Ging was sure Gon would have been saved because of a generic power of friendship trope. I actually believe Ging knew something about the Zoldycks and Nanika:
Tumblr media
As a matter of fact when Ging feels Nanika’s aura he is implied to know that in that moment Gon is being restored. After all it’s by observing his reaction that Pariston becomes convinced of this as well. Considering Ging has been preparing for an expediction to the Dark Continent for some time now, I wouldn’t be surprised if he managed to discover about Nanika and the Zoldycks. Then, after knowing that Gon’s best friend happened to be Killua Zoldyck, it wouldn’t have been difficult for Ging to do the math and to deduce how things would have turned out in the end. Mind it, Ging’s assumption was probably nothing more than a bet. He treated Gon’s life as the election. He was sure that Gon would have been saved in the end, but he was also sure things would have developed in a certain way during the election and he was proven wrong when Pariston gave up his position immediately after winning.
So both Silva and Ging are flawed fathers. Yet, it’s true that the framing around them is different. When Silva speaks of Killua as his son he is framed as a villain, while when Ging says the same thing abt Gon he is filtered positively thanks to Razor’s flashback. So how should we read this difference? It’s too soon to say, but as you noticed in your ask Gon’s arc has been one which has been strongly deconstructed. Killua’s on the other hand has been clearer since the beginning. Killua’s flaw has been presented as a flaw pretty openly since the hunter exam, while Gon’s has been treated as a merit in the beginning and has been deconstructed later on. It has been made clear since the beginning that Killua’s family was a terrible one and that his arc was about breaking free from them. Gon’s journey to find his father on the other hand has been framed positively by the narrative and has been deconstructed partly later on with Gon finding Ging in the least climatic way possible and with Gon realizing he doesn’t even care that much about staying with Ging in the first place.
So I wouldn’t be surprised if by the end we were to discover that both Killua and Gon’s final trials will be to overcome their respective fathers, but in different ways. I can easily see Silva having a more traditional villainous role in Killua’s arc, while I don’t think Ging has been set up to be an antagonist. However, I think Gon has been set up to realize he doesn’t really need any particular relationship with his father to feel validated.
Let’s consider Jairo’s character for a moment:
Tumblr media
It’s been foreshadowed he and Gon will meet each other which means that they will probably be foils.
The turning point of Jairo’s background story was to realize that his father didn’t care about him:
Tumblr media
This realization together with the neglect and the mistreatment he endured day after day is what led him to start his criminal career. It’s possible Gon too will have to accept Ging doesn’t really care about him. However, I am expecting that by then Gon will have developed enough to realize he doesn’t really need Ging because he has his own support system made of people he met along the way:
Tumblr media
2) Gon and Ging
Ging has been set up to be one of the main characters in the current arc and he has been given a goal:
Tumblr media
But this is the same goal Gon had in the beginning i.e. finding a long lost relative who is exploring the vast world:
Tumblr media
Gon faced his journey with the help of a trusted friend:
Tumblr media
Ging is about to start his with a trusted enemy:
Tumblr media
The Chimera Ant Arc deconstructed the steretype of the World Strongest Man through Netero who wasn’t able to win in a contest of strength against Meruem:
Tumblr media
In this arc we have Beyond who is supposed to embody a different kind of hunter from the one his father was. Netero was a warrior. Beyond is a bold explorer:
Tumblr media
All these elements may not lead anywhere, but they may also be hints that this time the story will partially target the figure of the explorer aka of the man ready to leave all connections behind in order to discover the world. If the story intends to do so then I wouldn’t be surprised if Ging and Beyond as representatives of this category will end up deconstructed later on. However, right now we are lacking elements. Like, is Ging’s wish to find Don reflective of his Man-Child tendencies (which he clearly has since he is sure he will never change aka never grow)?
We will hopefully get an answer soon, but for now these are the most coherent and objective thoughts I can give you about Ging’s character. He is foiled with Silva, but he is also framed far more positively than him. He has also been set up to be a protagonist and the setting up of his arc reminds me of Gon’s. I am pretty sure an important part of Gon’s arc will be to overcome his father’s shadow. I am not sure for now that being Gon’s father will be a central part of Ging’s arc or at least of a first part of it.
Thank you for the ask and I hope I was of some help!
