- even if he's allowed to speak he doesn't contribute much to conversation.

- if anyone asks he just says that he's feeling kind of off and he'll be fine in ~30 minutes. This becomes an unintended subtle tell to his friends that his memory is completely fucked for a bit so they usually take him aside and shield him from anything that might be a problem.

- Luca dislikes learning what he's forgotten before his brain can remember it naturally, because the two conflicting sets of information from what he knows and what he assumes from learning things makes it feel like his head is sorting itself into categories by dragging itself around with barbed wire. He hates it.

- but sometimes it's necessary. He almost always keeps a written copy of any match rules on him just in case he's caught out during one. Same thing for fancy or specific events.

- speaking of writing, one of the things that always throws him off when he sees it is his handwriting. It's probably the biggest proof of just how much he's deteriorated over the years. You can find him crying over it sometimes.

- Even if he doesn't remember much, he still has details of some people and tends to be pretty observant out of instinct to learn. He'll notice things like Andrew's twitchy behaviour, or his rosary, or how sickly he looks, or how his eyes seem to flicker to Luca et every opportunity, and then not remember his name at all.

My dad just came over and I looked up from my computer so guiltily that I had to explain. I wasn't watching porn. I was looking at really excellent and really only moderately expensive (given the user experience) jackets and bags and pants and dresses from Fjallraven. My niece (Big A) worked at a retail shop this summer and she's going to work it again over the holidays and probably next summer as well and I wouldn't be surprised if she does her internship with them and ends up designing for them. At my birthday bash Big A all but told me that I should pick out a few items I wanted for when her employee discount goes from 50% to 70% over the holidays. So I've been window shopping. I maybe kinda want everything. For bonus points most of their clothes are made (and available) in my size. Oh shit, I just found the sweaters. I have SUCH A MIGHTY NEED. Don't mind me, I'll just be over here coveting $200 cardigans while my last heatstroke/blood sugar incident is less than a week behind me.

My father was martyred by Israel on 10 October 2023 after sacrificing his care in hospital so the injured children could take priority. Today would have been his 60th birthday. He was always selfless, kind, and giving for others. My father gave up everything for me to be able to have a better life, because that is what he always dreamed for me and my sister. The world suffered a great loss when he died, and my heart is always with him and every Palestinian who has lost someone.

In his honour and memory, I would love for anyone who is able to do so to consider donating to The Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.

The PCRF is an amazing organisation that does so much for those in Gaza right now, including helping provide food, water and medicine. You can donate any amount you are able to- there is no minimum! My father would have given his very last cent if he saw the way Palestine was continuing to suffer after over 100 days with this limited aid, so I know celebrating him by helping others is the least he would have wanted.

Mongolian history class, 2022, start of the semester. We're having a discussion on animal slaughter, featuring the one Mongolian student in our school.

The student explains that he's slaughtered animals himself, and there are two ways of doing it that avoid the spilling of blood. For a small animal like a chicken, you reach up into the chest of the animal and sever the arteries. For a larger animal like a camel, there's a spot on the forehead that, when hit hard enough, causes the animal to die instantly.

While this discussion is going on, a couple of the students are sharing something back and forth on their phone

The professor calls this out, asking if what they're sharing is more interesting than Mongolian animal slaughter

The room is dead silent for a few seconds. The two students look at each other awkwardly.

Eventually, one of the students pipes up:
